Kanita Doyle was runni- sprinting towards the Great Hall. She couldn't believe it, how could she have possibly lost track of time. One minute is was noon and she was enjoying the company of the house elves in the kitchen, eating her fill of food and bugging her favorite elves until they gave in and taught her a bit about cooking-- the next minute it's 7:10 already! With the horrible realisation that she was already late for meeting Dexter for the dance, and she wasn't even dressed yet, Kanita had to hurry breathlessly to her Ravenclaw dormitory. With so little time, the moment her body entered the room, Kani had to gasp out breathlessly, "Accio dress!" In record breaking time, she pulled off her clothes and slipped on the light, flowing dress and small heeled shoes before heading back out the door. Not even bothering to style her impossibly long and wavy hair, Kanita performed a simple calming and loosening charm upon her locks so that they fell softly down to the small of her back. All the while still running for the Great Hall.

She could hear the sweet melody that managed to escape the dancing room and flow down the hallway at the same time her eyes caught the lean figure that could only be Dexter. After all, who else would be waiting outside of the dance at this time? So with her most apollogetic look and poutiest lips, Kanita pulled up beside her dearest friend.

"Um shahh sorreh. I'm so sorry!" The words came out as a dry whisper. Her entire mouth felt as parched and sandy as a dessert. So while the Ravenclaw licked her plush lips in the hope of moistening them, she slipped her small hand into Dexter's.

"You look dashing, my prince." It wasn't an attempt to sweet talk Dexter into forgiving her..okay, well maybe it was just a little bit, but her gaze really was roaming over her friend's body in admiration. His broad shoulders filled his dress robe wonderfullly and the deep blue of his robes contrasted his eyes so vibrantly that it was beautiful, rather than odd. The trimness of his waist was accentuated by the simple, silver loop the tied nicely around him, seemingly holding the robe together so that it doesn't fall open to reveal what was sure to be a sculpted chest. Kani's finger's twitch in their want to pull loose the tie just to prove her imagination right. Instead, she moved her free hand to his shoulder and used that to balance herself as she stood on tip toes to give him a soft kiss on his lips. For they looked much to inviting to pass up.

It wasn't like Kanita and Dexter had a romantic relationship. They were actually just close friends, much to the surprise of others. But they were very affectionate and did not hesitate to express their love for eachother, if a bit on the romantic side. Neither witch nor wizard thought twice about taking their friendship to the next level. Instead, both were comfortable as they were. Giving eachother the emotional support they needed and more, when necessary, for neither liked to be lonely. When either found a girl or boyfriend, the other would be completely fine transforming their relationship to strictly best friends. Kanita knew she didn't love Dexter in the way a wife loves a husband, because she would never get jealous of him. And vice versa.

His blood was boiling by the time he could see Kani coming steadily closer. The fact that she looked exquisite made him sneer in the slightest, for it was obvious that she didn't even take much time to make herself as such. Heck! The girl was still doing her hair...while running! Ugh, and the way they fell like a tantalizing waterfall around her small form, 'is there no justice in this world?!'

The final straw was how adorably out of breath Kanita was upon her last steps towards him. And then she even apologized! "You're being entirely unfair, you hag." Dexter countered her compliment to him with a smirk but couldn't keep up the facade as she placed her lips on his to silence his next insult. Instead of returning her peck with a light one of his own like he normally would, Dexter cupped her chin and crushed his lips angrily to hers. He could feel her surprise in the slight gasp of air she managed to draw in between their connected mouths. Satisfied, Dexter pulled away and let his familiar smile slide into place. It was very, VERY rare that anyone witness his darker side. Even a friend as close as Kanita, for it was buried so deep within that letting it surface for even the smallest of moments made Dexter feel unfamiliar with himself. As if he didn't recognize who he was. And it was in times like these that he understood why that wretchedly old hat placed him in Slytherin. There was a dark side to him, but it wasn't as frequent as his more life-loving persona. Sometimes, the Slytherin boy felt like two seperate beings. But that didn't bother him, so he paid no mind to his more villainous side.

"My princess, I thank thee. Now, shall we continue to the party?" Holding our the nook of his arm for Kanita, Dexter fell back into his more comfortable setting with a sweet smile.

Ascella stood beside Mell, not completely sure as what to do. Yes, she was in a good mood, but she would be in a better mood if Kale was there.
"Why of course I won't bite. Much." With a smirk, Ascella returned to the real world, trying her hardest not to let her suppressed emotions get the better of her.
"Mell, I would love to get some new clothes. I always love dresses. And nice clothing. I think orange is a good color for me, but red...Just isn't me color. Makes me look like a giant red blob, and it makes me look paler than anything."
With a smile, Ascella looked at Joel, he was one of the few people she couldn't stand, even though he reminded her a lot of Dexter. Though, Dexter didn't put his lips on every girl he saw.
Right then, think of the devil, she saw Dexter in the corner. Just as she was about to go over there and give him a big hug, she saw him with Kanita. Even Kanita has a date.
That makes me even more depressed. I just hope Kani doesn't take him away from me. We still haven't gotten to have our little talk with some ice cream. However, I kind of don't want to talk to him, because I don't want him to be depressed over my plans. I don't think I could tell him, let alone do it. I need to though. I have to get away. And if he knows...he'll talk me out of it.

With a sigh, Cella put on a slight fake smile, trying to make it seem like all is well. Though, part of me does need to tell Dexter, because I want him to give Kale something. Though, if I give it to him myself it would serve a better purpose...Oh gosh. What am I going to do! s**t! Only Kathos mildly knows what I'm doing, and I don't think he thinks that I'll go through with it! Crap. What to do, what to do...
Grabbing her dress by the sides, the smooth silk-like cloth swung lightly around her, the huge petticoat under her dress swinging as she moved her arms around to the music.
I want to dance. But with who?

Putting her hands on her hips, trying not to be swooned so ealisy with a kiss, Eloise looked up at Nicodemus. Trying to be pouty, Eloise couldn't resist but falter at his smile.
Yay yah yah. I need to be more trusting. Blah blah blah. OH phooy. Though, he really shouldn't get on my bad side. No. Good thing it's hard to get to my wand through all this fabric. He is a lucky duck.
"Yah, surprise me. How about scare me half to death! I almost attempted to kick you in the nards! I am very scary when I'm angry! But I'm more scary in the morning. " With a small Giggle, Eloise grabbed Nico's hand, attempting to drag him onto the dance floor. However, all she did was slide on the floor, since it was rather hard to drag someone as large at Nicodemus anywhere without a full sized tractor.
"Well, I hope your argumente' went well. Now. I shall take you up on that offer. By the way, you look lovely in your suit. Must have been hard to fit." With a grin, El once again attempted to drag Nico onto the dance floor, but her efforts were futile.

"Fine then," Louise sniffed, a tad wounded as she watched the tougher-looking girl nearly take off at a sprint to the refreshment table. Tougher-looking, yes. Tough, no. It was almost laughable how frightened and nervous Anasazi was. Though Hufflepuff aren’t known for their bravery, Louise chided herself. Not that she was a brave one, either. But she wasn’t a coward, nor easily deterred. No one confronted her. She was a prefect, and that commanded respect. Though, she always grudgingly admitted, she wasn’t very much a people person, preferring to read alone ever since her first year. However, now that she was placed in a position of power, she had to become sociable… starting with her own year.

Her eyes followed the pretty girl in yellow as she scurried away and smoothed her dress. The Ravenclaw’s navy eyes almost echoed a sigh as they trailed along the room, tracing the contours of the tables, the snowflakes, and the students. Are we having fun yet? Louise’s fingers floated up to her mouth as her teeth began tugging on her cuticles. As soon as she realized it, though, she pulled them away and instead occupied them with tightening the laces in the back of her copper-coloured dress. Her skinny frame allowed her to pull the laces tighter and tighter without coming close to crushing her ribs. That was one thing she had going for her.

Taking a deep breath, Louise nodded curtly in the general direction of nobody in particular. She just had to suck it up and go make friends, socialize, have a good time. ”Who to pick, who to pick…. Not the Head Girl- that’s not what I meant by sucking up….” She sighed, scanning the room over, once, twice, three times. No luck. Josephina had scurried off, just as Anasazi had. ”What would Marisol do? she found herself asking. She needed to know, as soon as possible.

Adele sourly looked into her drink, wondering why she had bothered with this ordeal in the first place. Although sorely tempted, she didn't particularly wish to be known as the only sixth year that did not attend the Christmas dance. Her father's words sprang to mind nearly immediately, 'you're nearly an adult now Adele, you better get used to forced fun.' Forced fun was probably the best way one could describe the situation. Adele smoothed down her dress (which although beautiful, happened to be the most uncomfortable article of clothing she had ever worn) and looked around bleakly, cursing herself silently for not bothering to find a date.

Her plan had been to meet up with a bunch of friends during the dance, and enjoy the evening without having to go through the hassle of cornering a boy. Unfortunately, it seemed like many of her friends had found dates overnight. She didn't particularly wish to intrude upon any of them (nor involve herself in any sordid romances) but she certainly wished she had something else to do than sit in a corner looking beautiful.

Adele sighed, and stood up. Lurking in a corner, although much more comfortable than wandering awkwardly around looking for somebody to talk to, wasn't going to serve any purpose other than waste the time. This was a perfect opportunity to solidify some of her connections to the other houses. She scanned the room quickly for unfamiliar faces, and caught sight of a girl whom she believed to be a Ravenclaw prefect, and in mock-suaveness asked, "I'm not much of a dancer, but can I interest you in a fine conversation?"

Louise watched as a Slytherin girl a year above her stared vacantly around the room and walked towards her as girls with purpose do. Listening halfheartedly to her request for camaraderie, Louise pursed her lips. "As you like," she calmly replied. Eyeing the older girl with no traces of veneration, but a slight inclination of her head, as if to denote respect. Louise didn't know the girl personally, but she was older, so she might have at least some power over her. "My name is Louise Shapiro-Feret. It is customary to exchange this information, is it not?" Of course, she would already know that. She inspected her oval nails and exhaled through her nose sharply.

Lost in her own world, Lori didn't notice Damien until he was right next to her. "Um, sure..." She said, accepting the drink. She smiled at him. "Thanks," she said, trying to remember her people skills. In fact, Lori hadn't been at a dance for years. She was usually either in the rafters dropping dungbombs or hiding in the common room. But this year, she had bet another seventh year money that she could go through a dance, so here she was. Sipping the drink cautiously, since many students at the school had some sort of grudge against her, Lori tried to think of something to say.

{Oh gods! Full sized tractor... hehehehehe!}
Nicodeamus raised an eyebrow at her pouty expression, biting back the urge to laugh. "I'll keep that in mind, and not just for the safety of my genitals, thank you," he said in a sweet voice, taking her hand and kissing it, "And, my dear Eloise, I do hope that you grow accustomed to my surprising you." He smiled at her, and allowed her to tug him onto the dance floor.

"My father was mentioning that I wear giant's clothing. Thankfully, I found a suit my size," he said, "But, I must say, my dear, that you are far more stunning in yours." He took her other hand, letting her guide him. Nicodeamus, maybe from his large size, had never actually been able to dance. The good thing was that he had stoped growing, and he was learning, but the tall man was a terrifying sight on any sort of crowded dance floor. It was a rather... confusing predicament.

Adele smirked bemusedly at the younger girl. It was still too early to tell precisely the details of Louise's temperament, but first impressions were usually quite telling. The other girl was poised and and seemed to be mindful of rank. She also appeared to be slightly nervous and high strung. While Adele didn't recognize her surname, she expected the girl came from a well-bred family. Exactly the sort of company that Adele's mother would appreciate her keeping. Adele leaned back, and said lightly, "Indeed it is. Adele Walgrave."

She extended her hand. It seemed sort of strange to offer a handshake to a peer, but it seemed appropriate in this situation. The Slytherin searched for an appropriate topic of conversation, the girl seemed well groomed. Perhaps she's appreciate some small-talk on typical female matters, "Your dress is quite well made. Might I ask you where you procured it?"

Glancing at the outstretched hand offered to her, Louise slowly extended hers and met the older girl with a moderately strong grip. Not too strong, or she would seem domineering or nervous, and not too light, else she'd seem weak and a pushover. Adele seemed like the type of girl who was well-read, well-bred, and quite obviously the typical Slytherin elitist. Holding herself tall, Louise listened as Adele threw out a simple topic to begin with: clothing. She smoothed the satin skirt, careful not to pull down the beaded bodice in the meantime. Without looking at the dress, she replied, "Why, thank you. My mother is familiar with a few designers; she was able to secure one for me." Name-dropping a definite no-go. "Yours is quite lovely as well," she added after she'd spoken of her own. It was only common courtesy; any cretin could infer that. Well, maybe. She smirked, asking, "Might I ask the same of you?" Of course, she would return the courtesy. Hopefully the conversation would take a more interesting turn as the night grew older with each passing minute. Louise tried to restrain herself and quit fidgeting as Adele stood there. Her feet were restless and needed a stretch, though, her insides whined.

Her hands in his, Eloise tried to help Nico dance. Jasper had taught her how to dance, so she knew quite well. Jasper was always graceful, and on top of that a ladies man, so she knew she could trust him when he taught her how to dance.
"Well Nicodemus...I'm glad you'll keep that in mind. Who knows, if I grow too accustomed to you surprising me, maybe you'll get bored and stop! Though, I mustn't cross my fingers." Giving Nico a rather 'Matter-of-fact' look, Eloise smiled, taking his hands in hers, and placing his right hand on her waist, her right hand on his arm (Since she couldn't put her hand on his shoulder while still dancing gracefully.)
"Now. One two three, one two three..Thank you. About the dress that is. My father gave it to me for christmas. I was only there for a few days, so I got to see Edmund. He is getting so big! And I'm missing it. Nicoletta is still a brat, and Jasper still treats me like a kid. However, when I told my father I had a boyfriend, I could see Jasper sending me a shocked look. It was precious really." Still looking at her feet, more for her sake than his, Eloise spoke softly, the 'one two three' rhythm still ringing in her head.
"The suit...Suits you." With a small giggle at her own pun, Eloise looked up at her tall man, trying to make him feel as comfortable on the dance floor as she could.

Mellisande sighed, in light frustration, as others wandered around. She'd really only come to do her job as Head Girl, since she had none she was close to, in that way. Sometimes it made her wistful, but she was too aware of how she might risk stepping on toes if she tried for anyone, since she was never sure, especially amongst her Slytherin brethren, whom was after whom. She then smiled at Ascella. "We shall plan a weekend, then, to have Mater pull us home and so forth. Knowing her, she'll try to do your entire wardrobe, to warn you, since she just LOVES to design." She laughed lightly.
Turning, she picked up a cookie to nosh on, making a slight face, as she cooked better, really she did, and let, for just a moment, her mask of cool, collected calm slip. She hated these things, she really did! She'd much rather a cozy party at home with her family, and friends. These things just served to remind her things. She then put the mask back on, turning to face the crowds again.

Taking Lori's silence as her way of saying that she didn't wish to speak to him, Damian said, "Well, it was nice to see you." and left, heading back to the refreshment table.

This dance was not turning out the way he had hoped. All he had done so far was stand around and drink punch. He couldn't find Anna anywhere and the evening would be ending soon.

"Excuse me Vlaityn. I need to check up on someone." Amelia excused herself from the group of Ravenclaws that were chatting happily to check on a friend who seemed to be in a brooding mood since he entered the Great Hall. Amelia hadn't seen or spoken to Xurdion since there first potions class together. She wanted to tell him the good news about her being on the Quidditch team again but unfortunately he was never around for her to tell him. Walking over to the other side of the hall, Amelia tapped the young man on the shoulder. "Long time no see Xurdion. Are you alright?" Amelia said noting the tears that were about to fall from his eyes, "What's wrong?" .......
