"I wish I had a horse.
A bright and shiny horse
A horse I could call my own!
I'd treat him so nice
Brush him each day
For his dinner he'd have tons of hay!"

Joshua was singing. He'd been singing the song by the Chipmunks the entire week. It was driving both of his parents mad. Thali was having the worse time; she was the who had said no. Her guilt was increasing with each word. She knew they could afford a horse; Ben wasn't fond of them.

"I wish I had a horse
A sweet and gentle horse
He'd sleep right by my side
We'd be buddies 'til the very end
Cause everybody knows a horse is
man's best friend!"

Thali glanced at Ben with a frown. Why couldn't he have a horse? It couldn't be that hard to take care of. They weren't as loud as dogs, and couldn't eat as much as most animals.. And they were useful! If Joshua would be happy with one, Thali didn't see why he couldn't have one.

"Any kind will do
I'd love a horse,
Wouldn't you?
I wish I had a horse.
A bright an shiny horse
A horse I could call my own!"

The toddler seemed to know he was getting to his mother; he stopped to look at her. Thali had her hands over her ears, with her head against the table. She couldn't take anymore! The song was so irritating!

Joshua couldn't tell if she was angry; but he wasn't willing to find out. He ran to his bedroom.

"Time for breakfast!" Thali called; this was strange. Joshua was usually up before her. She supposed he might be tired; he hadn't slept well the night before. Nightmares were common amoung children, Thali had to remind herself. Perhaps Ben had told him another ghost story. She'd have to get after him for that..

When the toddler had told her about it, it hadn't seemed like an ordinary dream. He told her of an angry king who wanted to take her away. A king who had sent someone to get her; but that person had never come back. Thali had been alarmed; for some reason, thoughts of her father kept coming into her mind. Who had he sent...?

And then she realized-- Vate. It had always been Vate. The dark elf had found reason to stay on Gaia. Well, it was more of a romantic interest than an actual reason. Thali didn't wonder why her father would be angry-- he'd lost both his heir, and his supposed successor.

She tried to shake these thoughts from her head as she walked into her oldest son's room. It was clean-- it still had that new paint smell that seemed to stick around for months. She went to Joshua's bed. "Josh? You awake?" The boy had the covers over his head; he groaned when she shook him gently.

"Mom, it's not even.." He muttered, uncovering his head. Thali noticed something. His hair had grown! Why hadn't she noticed before? Ben hadn't mentioned that he'd be needing a haircut.. It couldn't have come on suddenly...

That's when he stood up. Now his mother knew something was wrong. Either she was shrinking, or he had grown over night. Joshua noticed her look, and frowned.

"What's wrong?" He asked, looking concerned. The sleepiness had gone from his eyes; now they were narrowed in worry. Thali had gone pale; she was smiling, though it didn't hide her surprise.

"Nothing," She said, reassuring her son. It seemed strange that his pajamas had stretched to fit his growth. She paused, and then added, "Well.. I don't think you'll have to worry about Vinny's height."

Joshua was unhappy. School? Why'd he have to go to school? Why would his mother want to send him to such a place? His Uncle had warned him against school. It was a place where children had to work. Where they had to endure such tortures as 'Math' and 'Spelling'. Why would his Mommy want to send him there? She always seemed to be so nice. Surely she wouldn't make him go, if he said he didn't want to. Boy, he was wrong. As soon as he brought the subject up, Thali had started giving him reasons to go.

Two hours after the arguement had begun, Thali was still trying to convince him that he'd enjoy it. "You'll make new friends," She had told him cheerfully. Josh had stubbornly pointed out that he had made plenty of friends without going to school.

Thali tried another approach. "You'll see your friends more often." She told him, hopeful that he'd like that better. "You'd see Kaimi, Maddy, and others." To her disapointment, Joshua didn't seem convinced.

"I can see Kaimi and Maddy outside of school," He pointed out.

Thali ignored this statement, and tried to figure out a way she could convince her son that school was a good thing. She'd never been to public school.. Well, the Liberty Center wasn't exactly public. It was made for the children that had come from the cabbages grown in the lab.

"Nataya will be there." She said, thinking of her son's 'friend'. "What if she meets someone mean? Who'd protect her?" She knew her son too well. He wouldn't be able to resist that. He always liked to play the protector.

"I think I'll go to school," Josh said, sounding as if it had been his idea.

Valentines Day...

Ben had to get Thali the perfect gift. She had been hinting at it for a long time, and he couldn't bring himself to disappoint her. Though it'd cause more work for him to do, though it would be loud and obnoxious and need to be taken for walks..

Thali needed a puppy. Joshua and Vincent needed a puppy. Heck.. He needed a puppy. "So what do you think Josh?" He asked his oldest son, whilst sketching a homemade Valentine. "Think your Mom'd like a puppy?"

Joshua's face split into a wide smile. "You really mean it?" He asked, sounding hopeful. "A puppy?"

Ben nodded, not taking his eye off of his work. He had to finish his project before Thali and Vinny got home from the store. He silently noticed that Joshua wasn't planning on leaving the room. He caught a glimpse of the boy pulling over a chair.

"What kind?" Joshua asked, looking at the drawing. His father had never mentioned being an artist before! He was even better than Nattie! That was saying alot, coming from Josh. Hardly anyone was better than Nataya, in his opinion.

"I'm thinking a golden retriever," Ben said, smiling. He finished the drawing, and blew off the remains of his eraser. "Do you think she'll like this?" He asked.

Joshua gave his father a reassuring smile, and nodded. "She'll love it," He said. Of course, Thali would love anything Ben gave her. She adored him. But do you think Ben believed this?

Not a chance.

"....And then they turn all red and giggle and stare and point and.... Why are you laughing?"
Joshua and Thali had been talking about their most recent trip to the mall. The boy had politely informed his mother that he never wanted to go there again. When she questioned him, his answer had been simple. Girls.

To the boy's great displeasure, his mother seemed to find this amusing. Indeed, the elf was laughing so hard that she had to wipe tears from her eyes. She hadn't expected her oldest son to have an encounter with girls yet. She hadn't prepared a lecture about the birds and the bees, so... Thali's opinion was 'enjoy it while you can'.

"It's not funny!" Joshua snapped. "They're so irritating! They kept watching me like I was some kind of goldfish!"

Unfortunately for Josh, this led up to even more laughter from Thali's end. "I'm sorry," She said, when she caught her breath. "But..." The elf's words were swallowed by another wave of laughter, this time caused by the furious look on her son's face. "It just.....means..." She was trying to stop now, "they like you."

Joshua's eyebrows rose in surprise. The boy was wearing an expression that almost set his mother off laughing again. "They like me?" He asked, then added, "Why?"

Thali had the decency to at least attempt to keep a straight face. She pretended to be looking over her son. "Well, you're not ugly." She told him, trying to sound serious; and failing.

Josh's surprise quickly became confusion. "You mean they like me because I'm not ugly? That's the only reason?" He asked.

That did get Thali to laugh. "You could say that," She replied.

PRP with Gabriel, I'm in italics.

Quote:
Gabriel and two of his daughters Millie and Marcy where spending quality time together at the Barton Super Mall. Millie the darker skinned diva held Gabriel's right hand as Marcy the light skinned red head held his left hand. They looked out of a movie. Big smiles, and each one of them had a bounce in their step.

Gabriel took the girls shopping for some new clothes , and wanted to go to book store to find two books one on farming , and the other on 'fix it yourself' kind of things.

They were going from the third level of the store to the second when he spotted a female.

Thali had spotted a man with two girls. She quickly glanced around for Joshua. This would be a good time to make a friend or two, she thought. Joshua was shy, and didn't have that many friends yet. "Hello, I'm Thali," She said, walking up to the man. Joshua was behind her.

The dark skinned boy smiled up at Gabriel, his green eyes sparkling. "Hi," He said. Well, he had to be polite, right?

Gabriel looked at the boy with a bright but not over welling smile " How are you?" He squeezed the hands of his girls to let them know it was their turn. "Hi Im Millie." she said with confident pose , and she moved her head a bit. "Aloha , I'm Macry." Marcy felt like flapping her one wing but decided against it.

Gabriel then looked up at the woman. " Hello". Gabriel wondered if the girl knew him from the Gaia olympics or maybe from the TV segment Gaia News did on him and his children. "Do I know you?" he asked even though he knew she didn't. Gabriel let go of the girls, so they could chit chat with the boy.

Millie winked at him. She almost thought he looked like a nutcracker. Marcy whispered in Millie's ear " Hes cute". Millie turned to her in a load voice " I know right". She was hoping the comment would get his attention. She then looked back at the boy and gave him pouty lips. Marcy just blushed.

Thali shook her head, she'd never seen this man before. "I don't think so," She said. "You do look familar though... Maybe we've seen each other somewhere in passing?"

Joshua was shy. He didn't know what to say. He'd certainly never been called 'cute' by a girl around his age, or had someone wink or make faces at him. He felt slightly alarmed. Why was the other girl blushing? How awkward! "Erm... Hi." He said, smiling at the two girls.

Gabriel smiled " I am was on the news. Two of my boys and members of my household where in the Olympics and they did an interview with me on Gaia News". He looked over at the book store close by , he really wanted to go in but he didn't want to be rude.

Millie walked over to Joshua , he was a bit older then her but that didn't stop the diva. "My sister thinks your cute" she said softly so Marcy couldn't hear. Marcy just had a big grin on her face. Then she walked over to Gabriel. " Daddy I want to play with the balls"

Now he had his moment. " Thali would you care to join us , I need to stop over to the book store to get some reading material since my kids want to play in the malls jungel gym, I would love to sit with you and chit chat over some coffee, does that sound good?" he smiled and then Marcy smiled , it was double the goodness.

Thali smiled, "That's where I've seen you." She said, "Sure, I'd love to join you." She liked meeting people, after all. Joshua still had to get used to making friends. She sometimes worried about him.

Joshua blushed. "Cute?" He repeated, looking confused. "Why?" Okay, this was weird. He'd never had a girl tell him he was cute. Well, besides his mom.

Gabriel looked at the girls playing with Joshua and didn't want to stop them. "Hey I will go into the book store can you watch them" he normally didn't trust people , but she seemed trust worthy.

Millie walked over to Gabriel and Marcy " yea lets stay with Josh" she giggled and put her star eyes on for Thali.

Marcy smiled at Joshua and her wing did a quick flap. She definitely liked him. She kept thinking about his little suit and how cute his half grin was.
~~~~
Millie's eyes started to glow " Don't be shy " she danced around and everyone in the mall was gone and it was only Marcy and Josh + Millie. Millie started to sing a song much like 'I won't say I’m in love' from Hercules but a bit Jamaican like ‘Kiss the Girl’ from The little Mermaid.
“ Boy don’t fight the feelings inside , can’t you see the girls in puppy love”
She moved next to him by his right shoulder
“She has a spark you need to the light the fire!!!!!!!!” She belted out fire.
“Can’t you see honey dear a Nutcracker needs a princess” She points to Marcy who seems to be glowing and wind awkwardly blowing on her.
“Its v-day soon , do you want to be alone” she looked at him. “No? Well then listen to me child you need my help.” * She snapped her fingers and two birds landed on her shoulder “ She likes the flowers child , it’s the key to her heart child … So look around” She grabbed his hand then pointed his right index finger at a man who appeared next to a shop. Not singing she said “ When you see that man walk out of his shop walk passed him , he will give you flowers, smile then take them he will ask you “ Who are they fore” she said in a deep voice. “ You will say for my Valentine then hand them to Marcy”. She winked at him.
Then she finished her song “ Now you have a chance to make a wild fire child HA HA HA” she jumped on a bench “ So what you going to boy?”
The mall returned to normal and Gabriel had already went to the book store. Millie jumped off the bench quickly and looked around with a crazy smile. Marcy was still looking at Joshua in a daze but with no wind. Millie gave a quick glance to the flower shop in hopes Josh would get the hint.
Joshua looked dazed. He started to head for the flowershop. It was only when Thali stood in front of him that he stopped. He tried going around her. It didn't work. "Josh?" She asked, looking at him. "Are you alright?"
Josh never acted like this. It wasn't normal! Why did he keep looking at Marcy? Was something wrong? She didn't know what to do!
Macry looked at Josh "do you want to see the flower shop?" She asked.
Millie then smiled " yea lets go to the flower shop " She saw the man about to walk out the door.
Gabriel was still getting his books.
Thali looked uncomfortable. "Girls, I think we should wait here, until your father gets back." She said, frowning slightly. She took hold of Joshua's hand. She didn't want him running off. Gabriel's girls seemed to be bad examples for such an impressionable boy.
Joshua tried pulling his hand away from his mother. Her grip was tight on his wrist.
Millie did a whistle and the spell she didn't even know she put on him was broken. "Ok Josh's Mom we will just sit right here."
Marcy simply walked over to the man "Would you like these flowers" the man said "An early valentine gift just for you" he added.
"Why thank you" she said. The man walked back into his shop. Once fate is in line not even Thali could stop it. She walked back to the group. "Look what that nice man gave me , I don't know why I just had the urge to go there" she smiled.
Josh instantly stopped tugging on his mother's hand. He looked around the mall, as if confused. "Pretty flowers," He said, smiling at Marcy.
Thali seemed relieved. Josh was back to normal! She wondered when Gabriel would return.
Millie was thinking the same thing. She was happy her powers where kicking in but not happy with how things worked outl.
Gabriel came back not a moment to soon. " I found my books he looked over at the girls "Now who gave you the those flowers" he asked.
Marcy smiled " the shop owner of the flower shop" she said in a really cute voice.
"Well we must not waist any time to the coffee shop then the jungel gym". Millie and Marcy got all happy at the sound of the jungel gym and food. The coffee shop and really good meals.
"You still want to come , oohhh and thank you how rude of me" Gabriel was just happy she hadn't run off with his girls. " I hope they didn't cause to much trouble" he chuckled since he didn't think they would actually do anything.
Thali felt slightly awkward when she reassured the man that his daughters hadn't been any trouble. She had a feeling the two girls had been the cause of Joshua's strange behavior. "Do you want to get icecream?" She suggested. "At the coffee shop.. I mean."
Joshua smiled politely at Gabriel, before letting go of his mother's hand.
As they walked Gabriel held his girls hands as he did before. He looked back at Thali " I forgot 'The Coffee Shop' was making ice cream." He looked down at his girls " but no Ice cream for you guys , just a light snack since your going to be playing in the gym ok" he gave a stern look.
Millie could tell Thali was curious about her , she felt bad since Marcy had nothing to do with the event.
Marcy only cared about that food she was so hungry , she was even thinking about eating some of the flowers she had , but she held back.
~~~~

"Yep , I think so" he said with kind of a question tone. They where close to the shop. "This one" he pointed to the shop.

Millie looked around " I see a music shop" Millie grinned " I like music".

"Well then I think we have a winner" Gabriel said kind of loudly.

Marcy didn't want to go to the music shop she wanted the food. " Lets go" she yanked her arm so Gabriel would let go. She ran close to the shop.

"Hold your horses Miss.Tang" Gabriel said with a chuckle. "So want to go to the music shop after we eat?" he asked the group.

Marcy wanted to play in the balls , but she didn't say anything since she was so hungry.

Joshua looked up at Gabriel and smiled. "Yes please," He said politely. He looked at Millie with a slightly confused look. Well, he knew she had to like music, she sang. "I like music too." He said cheerfully. "What kind do you like?"

Thali ruffled Josh's hair. "He's been taking music lessons," She told Gabriel. She didn't think now was the time to start talking about Joshua's abilities.

Marcy looked up "Daddy please , my belly really hurts really bad!"

Gabriel turned from the group and went to the door of the shop, he helped Marcy in " Sorry guys she needs food , come along Miss.Millie.

Millie turned to Josh as she walked in " I like all kinds of music , its in my blood". She giggled and walked into the empty shop. Gabriel had already gotten Marcy a muffin to snack on.

Joshua smiled in understanding. "Mine too!" He said happily, glad to have found someone who understood him. "Mommy says I--"

Thali frowned at him, and shook her head. "You know better than to talk about that," She said.

Joshua sighed, and nodded. "Okay." He said, frowning at his mother. "Well, Vinny and I are taking piano lessons!"

Gabriel ordered a mocha freeze with pumpkin spice for himself and got Millie and Marcy some soy drinks with pumpkin spice. He also got there speaical foot long sub with meatballs, sundried tomatoes , and and a pesto sauce , he ordered one more to share with both his girls , he also got organic fresh potato crisp for Marcy since she needed more food then Millie.

He sat down at a table and waited for Thali and Josh to order. Millie waited in line with them. " Soo Miss.Thali what do you do for a living?" she payed no attention to Josh.

Marcy said grace and tried to eat her food as slowly as she could.

Thali smiled at the cashier, and ordered an apple cider for herself, and chocolate milk for Joshua. She ordered two six inch subs, one turkey, cheese, lettece, you know the drill. One with meatballs, and their speciality 'secret ingredient' sauce with cheese. Yum.

Thali looked down at Millie, with a smile. "I'm a writer," She said. "For children, like you and Josh. Fairy tales mostly." Yes, that was a good way to avoid her status. She walked over to the table, and sat. Joshua sat across from her.

Millie looking up at her slowly eating , she swallowed " Im singer , and I'm going to be Little Miss.Watermelon" she winked at her Dad , who then gave her a "GWA" look.

Gabriel noticed how different Thali and Josh where. He suspected that she adopted him. He picked up his drink and and took in a big gulp as he pondered.

Marcy looked over at Josh and gave him a big old grin. She was sitting across from him " Do you like playing bored games" she asked. Hoping this would be an ice breaker , so he would warm up to her. Marcy already ate her potato crisp and was now taking a bit of brake from eating. She knew she could catch up with the group if she needed to.

Thali smiled at Millie, she didn't know who or what 'Little Miss. Watermelon' was, but she supposed it must have been a good thing. "Joshua's a singer too," She said, nodding at the girl.

Joshua nodded, "I love board games!" He said happily. "Vinny and I play them when it rains! Like Clue Jr. and Sorry and..." He paused, remembering that Marcy might not know who Vinny was. "Vinny's my little brother," He said. "We play pretend and hide n seek and tag and lots of stuff!" Well, he certainly could talk about games..

Millie could tell she didn't know what 'Little Miss. Watermellon' was. "its a bueaty compertions for girls my age, You get to on posters and sing on tv, and get interviewed by Big Time reapoters, and it has my name all over it" she smiled with confadnce.

Gabriel looked over at her "we will see , we will see". Millie gave him a look of peer spite.

" I love clue , Mr.Plumb killed Mr.Body with a pipe , in the Ball Room!" She mini shouted. She cracked up. She didn't know why he said JR but she asumed he was talking about the same game. Gabriel looked over at Marcy.

"Are we talking about clue , I sure do love that game" Gabriel said. Marcy commented back " I also like 'Guess Who". She smiled and took a little bite out of her sub. " I would love to play clue with you some time Josh she said".

Thali smiled at the girl's confidence. "I'm sure you'll win," She said, encouragingly. It was always better to encourage children to follow their dreams, right?

Joshua smiled, "I like Guess Who too!" He said, happily. It had been his favorite when he was smaller, he still liked it. He liked guessing who Vinny was. "Maybe we can, soon," He said, nodding at Marcy. "With Vinny too."

Maybe this was a good time to ask Gabriel thought. " So when did Josh become part of your life?" said Gabriel looking at Thali.

"Cool then you can meet my other brothers and sister too" She didn't think he would like Ro-Honda , but her might like Ryan and everyone liked Ephesians and Autumnus. She liked Josh so much , his face and eyes shined in the sun.

Millie was eating her food watching her Dad talk to Thali , she was kind of thrown off my Josh since her powers had such a bad affect on him.

Thali gave Gabriel a thoughtful frown. "In November of last year," She said, after thinking about it. "Why?" She asked, curious.

Joshua nodded, "Maybe Mommy will have her babies by then." He gestured to Thali's stomach. "She says she's gonna have twins," He whispered. "I felt them moving!"

Gabriel gave her a smug look " I got my first babies from a man , I got Millie from a pendent , I got my twins and Marcy from phone calls by organisations, So I was wondering how you got your boy". He really got Marcy from two other people who no longer wanted her but that story was sad and didn't need to be told.

Marcy moved in closer so her real foot could touch Josh, she loved playing footsie with her brothers so she thought she would give it a try with him. " I would love to meet them" she whispered.

Millie was now watching both two-sums chat.

Thali nodded in understanding. "We adopted Josh from a place called the Cabbage Patch." She said. "He's grown alot since we got him," she added, glancing at Josh.

Joshua looked uncomfortable, and folded his legs underneath him. "Maybe when they're born, you can meet them." He said, feeling awkward.

"The Cabbage Patch?" he asked. When she said that he envisioned a doll with a funny face who had a nut cracker costume on.

Marcy saw how he didn't like her affection and backed off " Well I can't wait to meet them" she said with kind of a sad voice.

Millie was still watching the people react to one another. She liked doing this since it gave her material to act out.

Thali took a small map out of her back pocket and handed it to him. "I think that has the phone number on it." She said, smiling. "They gave it to me when I picked his cabbage." She told him, "I have another copy, so you can keep this one.

He took the map Thali gave him , Gabriel was shocked by how prompted the map was. “Well I have to give them a call" he had a glow about him. Gabriel hardly ate his sub so he started to chow down on it.

Millie was done and so was Marcy. Millie saw that the chat between Gabriel and Thali halted so she asked “How many books have you written" she asked.

Marcy sipped the last few drops from her drink , and waited patiently for something to happen.

"You can't think that this is what I meant.." Ben started. So, he had forgotten to bring Thali's Valentine present. But this.. This wasn't fair! He hadn't expected to gain another family member!

Joshua had met up with a girl who fit Ben's description of Thali's present perfectly. Well, maybe not perfectly. She certainly resembled a puppy... The boy seemed to be convinced that this was what his father had in mind for his Mother's present. "And she's energetic and playful too!" He informed Ben.

The man rolled his eyes. "But she's not a dog, Josh." He explained. "She's a person. Not a pet." This concept didn't seem to matter to Josh. "I wanted.. Well, I suppose.." He paused, and looked at the girl. "What are you doing in Barton by yourself anyway?" He asked.

The girl simply smiled and shrugged. She didn't want to admit having been lost.

Joshua decided to invoke himself into the conversation. "I found her." He told his father, "I found her, and she's going to stay with us." He looked almost stern.

Ben frowned, not sure how to explain this to a young boy. "I'm sure her family would miss her.." He began, though he paused when Josh frowned at him.

"We're her family. She was looking for us. See? The papers say so. Right here." Josh pulled out a small packet of papers and showed it to Ben. "The map was mixed up, see? It showed the way to Mommy's other house."

What Josh meant by 'other house' was simple. Thali had bought a small house for Vate after getting irritated with the dark elf. Now he didn't have to stay with them; or better yet, he wouldn't be nagging at her constantly.

Ben read through the papers quickly. "Alright," he said, looking at his son. "You win. She can stay. You better go tell your mother." He couldn't help smiling at the expression on his son's face.

"Really?" The boy asked, smiling. "I knew you'd let us keep her!"

Ben sighed. He wasn't up to explaining that they weren't 'keeping' the girl. She wasn't a pet.

"Uncle Vate had a baby?"

Thali couldn't help but laugh as she explained that Vate had found a child on his doorstep, and wouldn't be visiting as often as he used to. At first her oldest son seemed dissapointed, then he was all smiles. Another cousin to play with!

"When can I see him? Is he cute? Is he nice? What does he like? Does he like to play games? Does he like cookies? Will he like me? Does Almie like him? Does he like--?" Joshua bombarded his mother for news of his new cousin.

Thali grinned at the amount of questions. She decided to answer them in the order they were asked. "You'll see him tomorrow, he's cute, he's nice. I don't know what he likes, I haven't met him. I don't know if he likes to play games, but I'm sure if he doesn't, you and Vinny will find one he does like. I'm pretty sure all little boys like cookies. Of course he'll like you! I don't know if Almie knows about him yet." She paused, and said, "Now I have a question for you," She teased.

Joshua blinked, "Okay," He said, obviously waiting for the question.

"Will you stop asking so many questions?" She asked, grinning. She usually encouraged questions, because at heart, she was a teacher. Her motto was 'there's no such thing as a stupid question'. But when bombarded with them..

Joshua frowned. "I'll go ask Dad!" He decided, sticking out his tongue at his mother. He ran off, heading for Ben's study. "Dad! I have something to ask you!" He called.

Thali couldn't help it, she smirked as she leaned against the back of the couch. That'd teach Ben to keep to his study.
