I led a class discussion on the issue of how the states are individually taking action to fill in all the gaps and loopholes Bush has been creating. biggrin

What do you mean gained? I've gained a lot of satisfaction.

As in, about how much paper do you think you've collected? And btw, where are you finding it?^_^

Probably about enough equal to a 1 foot Tree maybe. I've been getting it from friends, paper that I used an no longer need and such.

Pretty well....people kept on getting sidetracked to arguing about whether Bush was a good president or not...but they always divereted back to the main topic...

Well I'm glad it went well.

Today, when I went to visit the deYoung museum I used our city's public transportation to get there, rather than driving myself. I also bought organic marinara sauce for dinner tonight, which will be a meatless meal since I'm trying to stretch the humanely processed meat out as long as I can manage.^_^'

That's good to hear. ^_^

OK, so yesterday I bought some free-range eggs to try another new recipe for stretching my meat- okonomiyaki.^_^ I bought a mix from a Japanese store and one of the clerks was nice enough to translate the instructions off the back for me.

Yesterday and today, I've been paying close attention to turning lights off after leaving a room, and of course I'm continuing with recycling my paper, plastic, and glass. I get a lot of opportunities to recycle plastic- it's insane how much we used to throw out on a daily basis at work.^_^' Today I also got to help with a special patient from a feline rescue organization with whom our hospital has a charitable arrangement. They catch ferals, and we spay/neuter, examine, test, and vaccinate them as appropriate, basically at-cost. We also get a feel for how feral the kitty is, and if we think they'll do well then the organization starts looking for a foster home. If they're too wild to do well in a new home, then we do our spay, neuter, exam, tests, and/or vaccines and then this rescue organization looks after them until they're strong enough to be released back in the same area where they'd originally been picked up. This way, they get some protection and at least they don't contribute to the overpopulation problem. Today's cat, though, should have no problem taking to a human family.^_^

I've been turning off the lights in empty rooms. I always do that whenever I leave a room, but apparently my mom "forgets", no matter how many times I remind her. stare And then my brother follows her example...

I've also been doing a lot of that sort of stuff, turning off appliances and lights and such as well as recycling.

Same here! Turning off lights is so easy, and yet it helps in so many ways.^_^

Today I recycled plastic, bought recycled paper towels and bath tissue, an organic artichoke, tomatoe, acorn squash, and lemon; organic cloves of garlic, zuchinnis, dried cranberries, feta cheese, and maitake mushrooms; and some humanely raised and processed steak, pepperoni, and hot dogs.^_^ I also took my groceries out to my car without bags, and donated the nickel credit that I got for doing so to the California Academy of Sciences. And gave some change to a lady I met out on the street.^_^

At work our charitable contributions for the day included two reduced-cost kitty neuters, and two reduced-cost kitty spays. A couple days back we gave medical attention to a Merlin- which I'd never seen before, but apparently they're some sort of raptor. I didn't get a picture of it, because it was not very happy to see us and I decided to make it see as little of me as possible^_^', but they look something like this:

That looks like a Periguin Falcon, not a Merlin, yet they do look almost the same.

They look similar, though the peregrins which are more brownish are much bigger than this- this bird is about the size of a pigeon, maybe a little bigger. I've seen two species of peregrins- the one which we had at the old raptor rehab center was a little thing, about the size of a Merlin, but rather bluish. Then there was the pair that was treated here- a falconer brought it in. It looked like this Merlin, but was quite a bit larger.^_^ I have a picture of that one, but he's got his hood on so you can't see his lovely face. There seems to be quite a bit of diversity among the species.

So far today I've been keeping lights at a minimum and recycling mostly plastic.^_^

Yeah, I remember reading a book that had something about a merlin in it....I think it is the first of T.A. Barron's Merlin series...GREAT stories!!! Barron is a nature enthusiast and focused the first book's topic on saving a forest. He also has another book which is awesome, The Ancient One, that's about saving a forest too.... heart But I'm getting off topic. xp
