Alex smiled gently at the phone. That was just what she wanted to hear. "Actually, if you have a minute, I'd like to ask your opinion on Lorenzo-" Zoe chirruped at the phone, chiming in his two cents - "and what you think of Gwee." Her eyes strayed to the baby Gwee, who was sleeping soundly in a blanket on her dining table.
"I have an opportunity for you, if you're interested."

Chloe shuffled the phone from one ear to the other, leaning slightly against the counter as she glanced over to watch Roux who was, as always, staring out the window - or rather at his own reflection in it.
"A-Ahm.. sure. Yes. We're not busy.." She glanced around the empty receptionist area to be positive no one was hiding at one of the couches or otherwise. The opportunity that Alex mentioned caused Chloe to pause, giving a small blink. It sounded both dangerous and interesting.. her curiosity was piqued.
"W-What.. do you mean opportunity?"

"Not everyone is fit to raise a Gwee," she started, trying not to sound like a bad televised advertisement. "I observed you and Zoe at the festival, and quite frankly, you were excellent with him. Zoe was also very receptive to you, which is more important than a person's ability to care for them."
The Gwee chittered at the phone, extremely confused. He knew the voice coming out of it, but he didn't understand how the thing had a voice to begin with.
"If you feel you are up to it," Alex continued, scratching under Lorenzo's chin to soothe him, "I'd like you to meet one of the Gwee I have. See, if maybe, you are interested in giving one a home." She knew she was being blunt and straight forward, but she knew no other way. Her studies were very important to her, enough so that she didn't want to make the situation less important with sugar coated words.

Chloe gave a small startle of surprise as the woman on the other end gave her an intersting opportunity indeed. She glanced over at Roux, lips pressing together with slight worry. What if he didn't get along with the little creature, though?
Then again.. she could go to the lengths necissary.. and maybe.. having a pet of some sort would be good for Roux.
She smiled as she heard the Gwee that Alex reveiled to be named Lorenzo chattering at her over the phone. "...I.. I think.." She took a deep breath, it was now or never. "Y-Yes." She took a small breath of surprise that she'd said it.

Alex was pleased to hear the other woman accept. She had faith in her. "Wonderful!"
As if to read her mind, Alex tried to reassure Chloe. "You aren't under an obligation to take the Gwee." She knew Chloe had a life, and taking care of a Gwee could get tricky. "See how you like them being around, how they interact with-" she had to pause for a moment, seeing the icy visage of the Raevan in her mind, "-Roux." She remembered his anger, his wrath, but she knew Chloe was able to calm him. Alex trusted Chloe's abilities.
"If you're still interested, I can come to the Lab at a time that's best for you, so you can meet the little tyke. I'm sure Zoe would be happy to see you again, too." She smiled as the dragon snorted and flew back to the baby Gwee. He wasn't very good at sharing Alex's attention, which was part of the reason she couldn't keep the baby Gwee. She already had two to look after.

"O-Oh, yes. That sounds very good." She smiled even though Alex wouldn't be able to see it, the thought of a baby critter to meet made her feel excited. Baby animals were always so adorible. "I-I'm.. always at the l-lab now so.. p-please feel free to drop by whenever.. j-just not too late at night."
She was about to continue with a bit more small talk, but the other line was beeping already. "O-Oh.. excuse me, Ms. Alex.. S-Someone else is on th-the other end. I-I look forward to.. to seeing you again! G-Goodbye.."
She nodded as the other woman said her goodbye as well before switching the connection to the next line.

Journal Entry 30 - Another Year Older, Another Year WiserI found a strange invitation on the floor... I couldn't resist seeing what it was about. It was a surprise party that We`rika, Ravi, and Natsuki all helped to set up for Dr. Kyou and I to celebrate our birthdays! I feel so guilty getting so many gifts but knowing I have so many friends who wish me well makes me feel so happy... Surprise!

Chloe's answering machine picked up. Aphismet hated those things. He always sounded like a moron when talking to a machine.
"Oh, erm, Chloe! Hi! I, uh... I was just calling to s-say Hi. I haven't seen you in a while, s-since the, erm... the B-birthday party. I know you were probably busy! I was working lots too... S-so I just wanted to say Hi! I w-wish you were home..." At this point the receiver muffles a bit and Aph's voice can be heard in the distance muttering about sounding like an idiot. A moment later he speaks again, chuckling in a silly manner. "Erm, sorry about the wierd silence there. S-something happened... nevermind. Anyway, I, uhm, I kinda miss you... D-do you think we could erm, m-maybe see each other soon? C-call me when you have the chance, no hurries! You have my number... Oh, and sorry I didn't call before, it only recently occurred to me to ask for your n-number from the Lab... I would have called before, really, I just didn't think... I can be a little dense. I'm sorry! I hope you we-"
The message length has been reached, and the machine simply cut him off. Damn! Feeling stupid, aph called back and left another message.
"Erm, it's me again. I didn't know I was prattling on... Hehheheh! W-well at any rate, I miss seeing you. Call me if you c-can, okay? Urhm, Bye!"

Rivener had done quite a bit of searching before finding out where Roux was. He'd asked covertly when he called people, under the guise of just chatting... It had required a lot of acting, but he was an expert at that. In the end he'd located him: frozen in an ice cocoon again, in Chloe's apartment. She had been living with Natsuki...
The Scorpion waited, in the evening, until all the lights went out in the house. Only then did he approach, quiet as a shadow. Deftly, he opened a window and slipped inside, closing it back again behind himself. He turned, and shivered. Thankfully he'd worn a coat today, expecting it to be cold. His breath puffed into the air, like winter. He easily spotted Roux's cocoon, a large icicle-bolder stretching from floor to ceiling.
Approaching it quietly, Rivener let a sigh of longing escape him. He missed Roux, and he wished the other didn't always shut everyone out when he was sad. Rivener wished he could be the one Roux turns to.
When he reached the icicle, Riv removed a glove and place his hand on the cold surface, knowing he couldn't leave it on for long. Already his warmth was leeching out. "Hi..." he started, speaking softly. "It's me, Rivener. ...I wonder if you can hear me."
Taking his hand off and putting the glove back on, Riv approached closer and leaned against it. "It's been a while that I've seen you. So Chloe is missing... Is that why you're in there? I wondered what was wrong. I was worried. I hope it's okay that I come and see you sometimes. I don't care if you can't hear me, I feel better knowing that you're next to me."
Most of the night, and many nights thereafter, Rivener would sneak into the room and whisper to Roux for hours, or sometimes he'd just sit there and enjoy the other's company, despite the cold air.

With each visit the ice would slowly seem to melt away.. little by little. The ice turned from murkey and frosted to see through until one could see the icey Frei slumbering within his frozen cocoon, half curled with his hands pressed close to his heart.
