Well, y'know.. for that, just sort of think of it from the character's POV. :3 Like, would they care about how they looked? Would they take the time to do their hair in a complicated way? Would they just sort of forget, or not care? Would it be short so they wouldn't have to mess with it?
Maybe think of your own hair and why you wear it the way you do, or ask your friends about their hair.
That sort of thing goes for all aspects of character design, so it's a good thing to practice, IMO.
