Fireheart jumped when she touched him, startled by her sudden appearance. He shook his head and purred when he realized who it was and nuzzled her. "I've been doing well. Um... Fernpelt... I've been thinking and..." he paused... choking on his next words. He looked into her eyes to see what she was feeling at that moment, hoping he would see some reflection of any emotion that would bring him relief and let him finish his sentence.

Fernpelt's eyes were full of emotion and thoughtswere swimming through her mind. What was he about to ask? "Yes?" She purred. "You know you can tell me anything." She looked at him with her green eyes.

Fireheart stared into her green eyes, lost in them for what seemed like hours but was really only about a minute. Finally he regained his voice and released the words. "I... I'd like to have kits... I know it's not going to be easy for them, having to only see their father every few nights but..." He trailed off, as thoughts and emotions overwhelmed him. He hoped that Fernpelt wouldn't be disgusted with him for suggesting the idea that she even dare have kits with a ThunderClan cat.

Fernpelt stared seriously into his eyes. She purred in delight. "I would love to have your kits..." She meant those words but she didn't want to know what would happen once her clan found out about Fireheart.
She edged up closer to him and wrapped her tail around his and purred. Whatever happened she would love him... He would do the same too she hoped.

Fireheart stared at her in disbelief, she had agreed? He had been so sure that she would be reluctant to have the kits. It would mean her clan would find out about them, well, maybe not know who it was exactly but there weren't many other cats in the forest the same color as he was and it would be their luck that a kit came out to look like an exact replica of him.
The next thoughts through his mind were of happiness, pure elation at the fact he would be a father and that Fernpelt would be the mother of his kits. Then his thoughts shifted again and he thought of her joining ThunderClan, or him joining RiverClan or both of them leaving the forest behind and going to live with Barley and Ravenpaw in the barn on the other side of WindClan territory, or worst of them all, being rogues in the forest, their kits beside them.
He said nothing of those thoughts but looked up into Fernpelt's eyes again. "I'm not sure what we'll do if your clan finds out they're my kits, they won't be accepted in either of the clans easily, possibly not at all, and we ourselves might be exiled because of this... are you sure you really want this?" He asked, giving her one last chance to change her mind.

Fernpelt nodded. "I know that. I don't have tell to my clan who fathered the kits though." She thought of being exciled and every bad possibility that could come of this. Thoughts of anguish and happiness were fighting in her mind. Somehow the happiness was winning.
She looked up at him one more time before mewing, "I should go now." And with that, she took off into the river and swam to the other side.
In her den she thought of all the bad things that would happen if her clan found out who fathered the kits. She pushed it out of her mind and thought happy thoughts. Odds are maybe they will look a lot like me and not like Fireheart. She hoped they would look like her.

Fireheart nodded and watched as she left and dissapeared over the hill on the other side of the river before he turned and headed back to camp. Looking up towards silverpelt he mewed "StarClan, please don't let this end badly."

Fernpelt sat in her den and thought about having kits for a long while. She looked at her clanmates and wondered if any other cats found out about her love.
(Not yet, I will soon after I ask TehTwi a question)
