SinfulGuillotine Yes. Stardust pleasantly surprised me, both the book and the film. If left to my own devices, I probably wouldn't have given it a chance, but the book was sort of forced on me by circumstance, and I enjoyed it so much that I watched the movie the very next day.
Although I often keep away from things (especially books!) that nearly everyone likes.
It was very much a pleasant surprise!
Glad I didn't go anti-mainstream at that point.

Glad I didn't go anti-mainstream at that point.I accidentally left my carry-on on an aeroplane and didn't realise what I'd done until I was already on my connecting flight. I was facing a 12-hour flight with nothing to do, so I asked the person sitting next to me if they had a spare book or magazine or something, and she let me borrow her copy of Stardust, and it ended up being a godsend. I finished it before we landed. Sometimes things are popular for good reason. Usually not, but it has been known to happen.

If you don't mind my asking, how does that work? I understand that it's possible to love someone without being sexually attracted to them, but I'd classify that dynamic as a platonic friendship. I have several very close female friends whom I love deeply, but I wouldn't call any of them "girlfriends." They're just good friends who happen to be female. I guess what I'm asking is: what do you mean when you say you have a girlfriend you're not attracted to sexually? Is she a friend who happens to be a girl, or are you in a romantic relationship with her? If it's the latter, I guess I just don't understand that dynamic of a romantic relationship that lacks sexual attraction. I don't intend any of this to be critical or offensive, and I'm not judging your situation or suggesting there's anything wrong with it. I'd just like to understand it better.

i have a lot of good female friends but i'm not in love with any of them. i love and care about them but it's not the same.
