Can't wait for the next interview T.

Anyway, while we are waiting for that, how about a review?

This time we feature Balloon Fight for the NES:

Balloon Fight was released on the NES in 1985. It is pretty much one of your typical arcade games of the early 80s. Some would say that Balloon Fight is a ripoff of Joust (or as my fellow Classic Game Room fans like to call it, "Bird a**.") However, ripping off early arcade games was a very common practice back then. There are various Pac Man ripoffs on the Atari 2500 alone, so this is forgivable.

Gameplay:
The player controls the unnamed Balloon Fighter with two balloons attached to his back. Repeatedly pressing the A or B buttons causes the Balloon Fighter to flap his arms and rise into the air. If one of your balloons is popped, your flotation is decreased, making it harder to rise. You lose a life if both of your balloons are popped by enemy Balloon Fighters, if you fall in the water, get eaten by the large fish near the surface of the water, or if you get hit by lightning.

Controls:
Like most early arcade games, the control may give you a little bit of problems as moving can seem forced. Other than that, controls are fine.

Sound:
The music isn't bad, though their isn't much of a soundtrack. Some of the in game sounds can be annoying though.

Graphics:
It's like most early NES games, so it's understandable.

Overall:
It's a fun game, though controls may give you a problem.

Final Grade:
7/10

I know this is a short review, but most early arcade games aren't complex, so there really isn't a whole lot of depth to go into.

Ah yes Balloon FIght. I forst played it on Animal Crossing!

It did kinda remind me of Joust ( xd Bird a**), especially when you stand still after respawning and you're invulnerable for a bit.

Good one!

Yeah.

Bit of advertising here, check out ClassicGameRoom.net for great reviews and a forum of friendly gamers. You may recognize me on that forum simply titled, "The D."

Okay boys and girls, time now for another episode of...

Behind the Controller!

Today, I talk to none other than my co-host, Mephisto D!

Let's begin!

"So, aside from playing Videogames, what do you enjoy doing?"

Mephisto D
I consider myself to be a bit of a music buff also. I enjoy taking the time to sit down with a good album.

"I see. what type of music do you enjoy in particular?"

Mephisto D
Depends on my mood really. One day I'll be in a metal mood, the next I'll be kicking back to some good old fashion blues or classic rock. Sometimes I'll even throw in the old Beethoven and Mozart.

"Ah, nice! The most I really listen to is VG music. I'm a big fan of that.

So, are there any professions you hope to seek?

Mephisto D
I just finished my 6th radio demo, and am hoping to get a job as a jock on 99.1 WPLR, Connecticut's Number 1 Rock Station, with 50 minutes of rock every hour. It was also the Number 1 Rock Station in the United States last year and has been in the top 5 for many years.

"That sounds great! Sounds like an awesome job, being a DJ. All those tracks at your disposal, plus a few on the side for requests, eh, what?"

Mephisto D
Who knows, you may even be looking at the very first Cult celebrity. Haha

"I bet! I hope all goes well for your quest to get that job!

Mephisto D
For now, yes. Though I have been considering becoming a politician. I already have people supporting the idea.

"Well, you do have a sound, solid outlook on the world based on our conversations in the past. So, what is the world around you like?"

Mephisto D
I live in a beach town. So you generally come into contact with a lot of people on a regular basis. I'd say it's very social.

I generally also get to share my views on various topics with all sorts of different people. Some agree, others don't, but that's the crazy kind of world we all live in.

"Ah yes, it's nice to be so opinionated. It proves we're not all mindless and conform to the rules of others.

So, anything you'd like to add in conclusion?"

Mephisto D
Hmm.....Well, you can never go wrong with quoting something:

"Sincero e fiero al mio destino andro'..."

That's Italian for "Sincere and proud I'll go meet my destiny."

Sounds like awesome words to live by. Thanks for your time and for such an awesome review!

Hello my fellow N-Cult news fans.

I bring about a very important update. Some of you may know of the internet video game series Classic Game Room. Well, a new feature that will be on their website will be a section for MY REVIEWS! I was just requested this today by none other than Mark, the host for the Classic Game Room HD series and co-host of the original Classic Game Room.

Here is the message:

Quote:
Dave, I wanted to ask what you thought about seeing some of your excellent text reviews on the front page of the site? I'm going to be working with the programmers over the next month to add some new features to the site and daily updates and reviews on the front are part of it. Also there would be an archived section of your reviews. Just wanted to see what your thoughts are. They've been really good!

Howdy do, folks.

Now I shall give to you a review of a more lesser-known game for the SEGA Game gear.

If any of you have played Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, or Sonic Gems Collection, then you should know about Tail's Skypatrol.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

It's one of the few games where just Tails is the Star, the other one being Tails Adventure, another Game gear title.

The story is that he must protect an island from Wendy Witchcart the, well... Witch, and her cronies. No trace of the Eggman whatsoever, but it's still good.

The controls are basically simple. Tails is on a constant move towards the end of the stage. It's your job to keep it that way. In short, touching any walls or barricades results in a lost life. You can hold back on the D-Pad to slow down, or hold Forward to move faster. Hitting an enemy however will just cause Tails to go into a stumble tumble! Rapidly press the button repeatedly to get him back on track.

Now think on this. See the yellow bar at the top?
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
That's his stamina meter. The lower it is, the recovery from falling may take longer. Candy found while moving can restore stamina, with varying values.

Once that meter runs out you CAN'T recover from a dive.

Now don't worry, folks! Tails CAN strike back! That's what the ring in his hand is for!

Hold it down to have him swing it about, and let go to toss it! Another nifty thing is that the ring can be used to grab on to gimmicks laden through the stages. See how he uses it to latch onto that minecart there?

Now the game itself is relatively short, but the slight tinge of difficulty that everyone seems to claim seems to counter that. Personally, I really only found the last stage challenging.

Despite the reviews of outsiders, it's a nice little game. Yet at this rate, it's probably better off that its playable on these various Sonic compilations.

Keep reading, and keep gaming, friends!
