YOU HAVE MY SWORD - IN YOUR FACE.

The dummy went down on the dirt, its arms and legs flailing wildly. Danny took the opportunity to kick herself out of the crumbled fort, and grab her sword. How reapers did this weapons thing daily was beyond her- she found it so uncomfortable and awkward. She liked just being able to attack with her hands and her tail- things that were securely attached to her. She had a new respect for her reaper friends.

The mannequin had now successfully figured out how to maneuver around the vines, although it still stepped on one of the thorns and pricked its foot. It didn't seem to mind, as it was already moving on to its next target- Danny.

"Heyyy, nice dummy!" she said, waving her hands in a calming motion. Unfortunately with the sword in her hand it looked like a sort of provocation. Oops.

The dummy rushed forward, and gave her a sort of sword uppercut across the shoulder she'd hurt the other day. Unholy s**t did this thing know? Was it the same one? No there's not way it could be the same one. That was silly.

... But still.

They immediately locked swords and Danny got a closer look at the dummy. Yeah, there was no way this was her old dummy. The thing was all patched up, and had no emotion registering on its face. All the scratches Danny had left on the other dummy were gone- or rather, never there, because this was a different dummy.

Well with that matter settled, Danny chalked the first blow up to "lucky strike." Smiling to herself she broke the sword-lock and spun around, attempting a swipe at the dummy's left thigh. It failed though, as the mannequin dipped its sword, locking with Danny's once more. It seemed they were evenly matched again, but Danny had the advantage of her fort doing so much damage earlier.

Plus the trashbot was still kicking! Little trooper workin' so hard~

YOU HAVE MY SWORD - IN YOUR FACE.

Danny jumped away from the thorns, terrified that she might trip. She really should've just burned them away with her tail to prevent any sort of danger, but her mind just wasn't focused on that. She was focused on the task at hand, and right now that hand had dropped her sword. She was developing butter fingers!

The mannequin was gaining on her, but Danny was already bending down to pick the sword up. Right as her hand grasped around the leather hilt, the dummy slammed down right in between her wings with the end of the hilt. Danny coughed as she was sent downwards, hands just barely catching her on the ground.

Angry and annoyed, Danny grabbed her sword and stabbed straight upwards, right in between what would have been ribs. The dummy seemed to stagger back a few steps, not really sure what was going on. Danny looked around for a moment, her expression mirroring something like, "s**t did I just do that?" Luckily no horsemen came stomping through the forest (or flying through the air for that matter) screaming at her, so she assumed she was doing it right.

Seeing no danger in the imminent future, Danny grabbed the hilt of the sword and yanked it, pulling the sword out rather awkwardly. The dummy stumbled backwards and tripped, but Danny was already on her feet and in a defensive position. All things considered, Danny just kept thinking Cybele would've applauded that move, right?

Forts! Rikki was actually kind of excited, despite the fact that forts were kind of for little scarelings. They were fun to build and one never looked exactly the same as the other. That appealed to just about everything Rikki liked. He started like everyone else, building up mud and dirt until he had a decent base. It wasn't pretty, but it would do.

His next plan of action was defense. A thick, thorny vine was perfect for wrapping around the base, but it didn't seem like enough. He considered more vines, but in moving just the one he'd managed to scrape up his hands. He noticed other students using various different materials, but in the end he was the most pleased by three sticks. Not ordinary sticks though. He sharpened them to a point and stuck them in the front of his fort, grinning. Any intruders would be skewered!

He walked around his creation and stopped to view in from the front with his hands on his hips and a smile on his face. He'd done pretty well, if he said so himself.

Roch went to work building his fort. He didn't mind getting dirty, in fact this reminded him of the sandcastle they'd built--he'd been doing the gathering that time, this time he got to do both! He was stoked! He built up the walls as high as he could, given the time, then went into the forest and grabbed a handful of everything.

He found some pinecones under a tree and scattered them in front of the fort, then he found some pointy sticks and studded them into the ground, creating a fence behind the pinecones. Then he dug up a bunch of point rocks, laying them out all over the area to join the pinecones.

The spiky net of vines went next, covering the walls of the fort. When he had finished to his satisfaction he stepped back and admired it for a moment before getting inside (crunching a pinecone under foot as he went.)

YOU HAVE MY SWORD - IN YOUR FACE.

She was so sick of circling around this dummy and fighting it off. Maybe war and fighting- maybe it wasn't her thing. Maybe she was meant to sit at home and just play with fire all day. Oh my Jack that sounded so wonderful, she was going to do it RIGHT now.

Except she was in the middle of a jacking forest and couldn't do a single thing. Danny stalked a few feet away and took a moment to duck behind a tree and just breath. The dummy got a little confused (they weren't that smart, were they...), and left her to her own devices for the moment.

Which Danny was grateful for. She needed a small breath of air, a moment to collect her thoughts. Mostly she was focused on what the hell she was going to do with this dummy. It seemed as though her goal was to deactivate it- that's what it had required in the past couple of days. Well, at least, when she shouted for teacher she hadn't gotten a negative response, so Danny assumed it was okay to make them stop moving.

A twig snapped to her left and Danny immediately darted right, just barely dodging the sword that was now lodged in the tree trunk. Danny couldn't help but grin. Advantage!

YOU HAVE MY SWORD - IN YOUR FACE.

While the dummy's sword was stuck in the tree, Danny immediately ducked under it and slashed the dummy across the stomach. It definitely wasn't looking very good.Scratches everywhere, a big hole where it'd been stabbed by the stick and her sword, walking strangely- it was only the defensive and Danny knew it.

In a split second the dummy had shoved an arm out, knocking Danny backwards, and pulled out its sword from the bark of the tree, holding it out to face her.

A reaction of pure instinct, Danny kicked out with her leg, nailing the dummy right in the shins. She realized that probably wasn't good etiquette for a sword fight (somewhere, Tobias was cringing), but it wasn't a swordfight for show. This was a swordfight for her life. She kicked again, and then ran away a few yards so she could get some distance on the dummy. Hopefully it would work ...

YOU HAVE MY DAGGER - IN YOUR FACE.

His fort might have well have been made of feathers. The mannequin tore through it like it was nothing, though it did seem a bit damaged. The poor structure hadn't had a chance! Rikki found that he was actually pretty frustrated by the brutal way in wish his lovely creation had been toppled.

He charged the mannequin, and though it did hit him, he also managed to get a nice scratch on it with his dagger.

Danny's eyes went wide as the mannequin blundered towards her. s**t it still had some fight in it, didn't it? She had sort of been expecting the mannequin to just drop over dead, or at least stagger towards her. Nope, it was coming at her in odd, jerking motions, but they were steady and rhythmic- the mannequin's spirit was still in there somewhere.

She held her sword firmly as the dummy approached her. Her grip redoubled as it raised its sword. They locked swords for a moment, and Danny stared at the mannequin. Why wouldn't it just die?!

The more he had to deal with mannequins, the more he discovered he hated them. He dodged under another swing as they battled on the ruins of his beautiful fort and he got a good jab in the dummy's neck. He thought that perhaps he was at least getting a bit better and his evasion skills, but he still wasn't pleased.

Danny was getting sick of this cat and mouse game. She decided to just stick with what she knew best- run in charging and hope for the best.

As she ran towards the mannequin, she picked up a pinecone and chucked it at the things head, but it narrowly missed and hit the dummy's shoulder instead. That certainly got its attention though. It's head twitched and perked up in a creepy sort of way until it set its sights on the fire demonness aggressor.

"Come at me bro!" she panted, holding her arms out in a welcoming and provoking gesture. She would go down with this fight, dammit.

As it turned out, provoking a dummy was an excellent idea. The head snapped straight at Danny and it started barreling towards her. Due to earlier inconveniences, its movement was jarred and awkward, and it tripped. If she wasn't fighting it to the death, Danny would've found that freakin' hilarious.

But alas, they were. So Danny stood there for a moment, waiting to see if it was going to move. Had she maybe ... won?

YOU HAVE AN ARROW IN YOUR KNEE FACE.

Satisfied with the construction of his fort, several arrows ready at his feet, Sheridan took his bow in hand. He was ready.

A twitch of his tail, he notched his first arrow, and drew the string taunt. A moment to aim, he released, firing the arrow toward the target downrange. The arrow struck, piercing the dummy's leather chest with a thunk. The dummy staggered at the strike, but only for a moment, his march toward the fort continued.

SWEET VICTORY!
Sosiqui

YOU HAVE MY SWORD - IN YOUR FACE.

ANSWER: NOPE. Turns out the dummy still had some kick on it. It was wiggling on the ground, trying to get some purchase so it could stand up, but wasn't doing well. Danny actually felt sort of bad, if she didn't expect it would kill her if it got up.

Danny walked over to it very cautiously, aware that it might snap and get up at any moment. Her sword lifted slowly in the air, and she stood over the mannequin for a moment. "Sorry buddy, but I gotta win!" she apologized.

After all, that's all this was. A game that she had to win. Danny wasn't thinking of it as training, as defense against the hunters. It was just a goal: beat the dummy. Make Amityville proud. Make Cybele proud.

In a completely dramatic way, Danny stuck her sword in the center of the dummy's back. It squeezed in slowly, and eventually the mannequin's movements slowed, until they stopped altogether. Oh! That had happened the other days too. That meant she won right?

A great grin crossed Danny's face as she realized what that meant. She'd done it! She succeeded in defeating the mannequin all three days. Her meditating was ... less than perfect, but she got through it. She'd done it. She really did it! Danny could see Cybele's beaming face now. "Oh Danny, you are the greatest champion in all of forever. Please take the throne to the war island and become our heir~"

Okay so maybe it wouldn't go down like that, but Danny could dream.

Rikki went to dodge another attack, but his foot slipped in the loose dirt from his fallen structure. The dummy's strike hit him hard in the shoulder - were they hitting harder than yesterday? - and the only scratch he managed to land was a flailing accident as he tried to keep from falling.

Last minute, Nyyrikki decided to use his slip to his advantage. He used the momentum from almost falling to spin under the dummy's next attack and he slashed at it's legs/stand, about where he reckoned the knees would be. If he was facing someone real, that might have been a good tact in winning. Unfortunately, daggers to the knee weren't as effective on nonlife.
