Meh, you just have to be as objective as possible. That's the key to a good review.

Here we have another episode of...

Behind the Controller!

Today I chat with fellow Cultie and EB fan, Kriel! Welcome to you!

"Okay! So aside from playing videogames, what do you like to do?"

l-Kriel-l
Well, I like to play guitar, listen to music, and (heh) sleep.

"I see! Always nice to meet a music fan! I myself enjoy listening to VG music."

"So, are there any professions you aim to seek?"

l-Kriel-l
Believe it or not, video game testing/designing. I'm even willing to accept that it's hard work.

"Mmm, I hear it is hard. I aim to do something alogn the lines of that, too."

"We all live in different places with different scenarios around us. So, what is the world around you like?"

l-Kriel-l
Well, since I live in the country, it's nice and quiet...most of the time. It can get pretty hectic around important times.

Mmm, sound quite peaceful. But I bet you'd like to get out there and see the world huh? Any places in particular you'd lie to go?

l-Kriel-l
Yeah. Somewhere in Canada, England (my sister went there and said it was pretty awesome), Germany, maybe Australia, and (heh) Japan.

Maybe Ireland, too.

"Ah I've always wanted to visit Japan! Maybe someday..."

"So anything else you'd like to add?

l-Kriel-l
Nah.

Okay! Well thank you for your time, and continue watching the N Cult News!

Now then, here's a real treat for you all.

Mephisto has told me of a guy called Julius von Brunk, "A disgruntled Amish man from Lancester, Pennsylvania"

Anyhoo, his Brand of VG-themed web-cartoons are quite a sight to see!

Look here for a series featuring Mario and co. during war time with the Koopa Troop!

It's good stuff, trust us!

Indeed Brunk is a genius. I used to be a part of his forum and I talk to him occasionally on myspace.

I really like his cartoon Masters of Doom: The Animated Series. It's supposed to be about the makers of Doom living together and how they go about their everyday lives.

Time for another review, this time I'll be reviewing Prehistoric Isle in 1930 for the Arcade.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

This game is a horizontal shooter (shmup) that takes place in 1930. The plot is basically that you are pilot working for the government and your mission is to check out an area that is reported to have had a high number of disappearances of ships, planes, and people. You fly over to your assigned location to discover that the Island is inhabited by living, breathing, dinosaurs. This discovery is huge, and there is a great opportunity to study them right? WRONG! You decide to take the manly route and kill every last one of them. There are also cavemen as well, and they are nothing more than smaller targets. These cavemen and dinosaurs want you dead. So much so that they even work together. The Pterodactyls will have cavemen attached to their feet, and they will try to jump at your plane. The bosses of the levels are large dinosaurs:

There are 5 levels in the game, with each level getting 2 bosses. The T-Rex is the final boss (OMG SPOILER!)

Controls are basic, a shoot button, and a button that lets you move around an item you get in the game. The item plays as an extra gun that shoots in an angle. if you position it however directly in front of your gun, you can't fire, making you an easy target.

The game does have a multiplayer mode, so you and a friend can join together to kill dinosaurs. One of the levels takes place underwater, so instead of a plane you get a submarine, but it's ultimately the same deal.

The soundtrack is enjoyable, though nothing amazing. The dinosaurs look awesome, the pictures really don't do them justice.

All in all, I'm going to give this game an 8/10. It's a great shmup, and an original/unique concept. The gameplay can get a bit repetitive however, especially when playing alone.

MEGA ULTIMATE SPOILER (Highlight):
If you are like me, and don't give a s**t about being spoiled, here is the ending. After you kill the T-Rex, it turns out that the location you were checking out was the Bermuda Triangle. You get into a big plane, ready to tell your government what was the cause of all the disappearances when all of a sudden....your plane explodes. Your character just becomes another statistic in the disappearance list. One of the most WTF endings to a game I've ever seen.

While perusing my collection of VG mp3s, i can't help but say that the Megaman Series has given us some of the best music out there by and far!

Here's a little sample of one the BGM from one of the stages in Megaman 7 for the SNES.

Seconded.

I also am a fan of Zelda and F-Zero, and Mario, of course!
