Soneko`
He suddenly was aware of the presence of an incredibly large figure. A behemoth. An oversized doll. He salivated at the thought of something so interesting. That one could actually prove to be more fun than the other toys. Something so big had to have some power to it. Still, if he could outsmart the mountain of a man.

The other fox was soon on his way over, taking his attention away from the the rhinoceros. He cast his glance to the boy who was now standing but a few feet away from him, addressing the group. How precious. The toy wanted a friend to talk to. He giggled to himself as the nervous tone in the boy's voice sent delicious shivers down his spine. He was unsure of himself before approaching his target. Stupid, he thought.
'Never go into a situation feeling unsure of yourself' He recalled his old mentor's ancient words. It was the truth. Second guess yourself and the outcome will almost always end in your demise. A part of him also knew that overconfidence will bring any person's downfall, however that part had no say in what went on right now.

His attention went back to the boy. The female kitsune thought he was thinking too hard? The boy was announcing that he thought talking was the best way to go about getting to know them better. He could let the boy find out just what he was all about, but a game would make his night. A chair would soon move from under the table and behind the redheaded male, shoving itself into the backs of his knees with enough force to cause them to buckle, assuming he was caught off guard. In which case, he would have him sitting almost directly across from him. He peered at him past his glasses.

"Please," He started. A slight grin tugged at his lips. "Be my guest."

"Thanks. My name is Yo-ko, what is yours?"

He had not met this fellow. He had seen him around, but never got the chance to actually interact in any way or form. Yo-ko was not really a super social critter, as he tended to stay and perform expiriments or train rather then go out much. Yet he found this place of outcasts and freaks just as inviting as any training hall or lab.

(( red, you still wanna go? sorry for the late repsonse, but i got very busy rl. i hope i didnt ruin that oppertunity. seeing as you moved on, i still wanted to check with you))

Listening to her question he sighed.

"I suppose I just want you to take notice that unlike most substances water is easily the most malleable and accepting. It in turn allows you to literally turn the tides on almost any situation. That acidic pool is the result of water in a volcanic environment. Having further knowledge on how water reacts to other substances can help turn the tide in even the most difficult confrontations.

That vial of yours is an excellent artifact, but its usage alone cripples you against someone with a strong understanding of their own abilities. "

Crossing his arms over his chest he laughed.

"Learning to use different components gives you a better understanding of water being an extension of existence. There is a reason it is called an element, beyond what is readily known. I just wish to expand your horizons beyond what are the regular conceptions."

<~>New posting format. I think it's a great improvement.<~>

She considered his advice carefully, again unwilling and likely unable to find any real weakness in its foundation. He was referring to chemical science, at least in part, as well as environmental, and maybe in some cases biological. Even if he were not, that was where her mind had taken her, and she was considering the surface implications of the power that knowledge could provide.

"What did you have in mind by way of components?" Even as she spoke, the young mage stooped down near the bubbling mass of tile and volcanic acid. For the most part, at this rate, the compounds had broken down, leaving very little moisture to experiment with. It was still simmering though, so he eyed it carefully, watching it as though she were on the hunt. Whatever she was waiting for, it took a great deal of time, considering one only had silence with which to entertain themselves.

Only when the solution seemed to be on the verge of finishing its work did she extend her left hand, withdrawing no more than a few liquid ounces of water, but effectively cooling and drying out the mixture of tile and volcanic ash and pumice - or so she gathered.

"Albeit slowly at times...it has a natural rhythm. You suggest this be my next step," she gestured with a dip of her head at the dry compound between them. Knowing little about volcanoes, she dared not test its potency with the flesh of her fingers still bare.

"To study the elemental properties of water based compounds?"

Nodding fervently his tail swayed behind him in approval.

"Indeed. An excellent mage is also an excellent researcher as well. One devises new spells through, hypothesis, research, experimentation and finally implementation. Rushing into spell casting without the knowledge of what you are trying to do is likened to idiocy. This not to say you can't improvise anything, but even improvisation is a technique derived of known concepts."

Crouching beside her examining the boiling mass he smirked beneath his scarves.

"As for components you will need for your spell casting, I have only brought this as an example of what you could produce. If I held your hand through your component selection you would only be emulating my own discoveries.

Grasping the azure crystal necklace he had summoned forth the caustic solution from he jangled the chain.

"This artifact you see here is the result of my curiosity concerning that vial you carry. While similar, its properties I assume distinctly different. I found it on an excursion out to Nepal some months back. It carries some old hallmarks of a colleague of mine, but she has long departed from region. You would be surprised what you can find in market places. Hong Kong is an excellent place to begin your search for components. Epithany has excellent mage's market guide in her library."

Rising back up to his full height he gained a thoughtful expression.

"Yes studying the elemental properties of water based compounds is excellent direction, but also study the interactions of water with substances before they become compounds. Your focus may be on the water side of things, but your just playing in the kiddie pool if that's as far as you wish to go.

Your technique with water magic is already far superior to mine in many areas. I am far from being a water mage. My elemental expertise lies more in wind and shadow. I only have the advantage of time and experience at my disposal. A true teacher's goal is not to just pass on their knowledge. A teacher must also cultivate new theory through their students and in turn gain colleagues. I expect much from you in the future. We mages are a community. Hoarding or magics serves no one if we do not share our knowledge."

"There is merit in that philosophy."

Letting the water fall, it hissed as its presence fused the more volcanic remains to the tile. The smell of it was rich, a concentration of minerals at once saturated, burning, and changing. Much like the transformation of food. Blank though her face was, she was interested with this new assignment, a part of her mind long forgotten coming back to life.

Rising, she eyed him almost as though he were an equal and not a superior. Such was her disposition anyway. It had not occurred to her until then that she was the only mage to not be involved in any sort of society, organization, or anything else. That was part of her nature. Yet, that wasn't what concerned her. Even if she wasn't actively involved, she realize she had certain access into the worlds of others. It was a great power that she had not yet taken advantage of, much like the lesson Kendo had just taught her.

How did she feel about this? What would she do about it? Thoughts began to work in her mind the way they normally did; she took notes for later, but otherwise paid no attention to them.

"You have given me much to consider." She did not bow this time, but the gratitude was there. As it stood, her fur was still bristling. Someone was ill at ease above, and below, on the surface, events were brewing as well. Threads were being woven together - threads she would rather avoid entanglements with. As it stood, there was somewhat to learn amidst all the thickening tension. She would not shun knowledge when it was being placed in her lap.

"I think I will have that cup of tea now. Would they happen to have loose leaf here?"
