▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

He paused momentarily after completing the Goat seal to make sure there wasn't any other seal he could quickly shift to but he didn't find anything. Giving up his chain for lost, he extracted his fingers from the contortionist exercise briefly before moving onto the next one on his scroll. He found the Dog sign excessively simple, so he performed that one to just get it out of the way. He formed a fist with his right hand wiggled the flat palm of his right around on top of it until he found the right placement. It took no more than a moment, and then he moved on to something a bit more challenging.

Just because water conforms does not mean it is any lesser an element.

The look in Akeru's eyes was not at all amused. An icy smile touched his lips as he responded shortly to Fudou's claim.

"No." He replied quietly. "Compared to Senju-hime, the nightmares on the field are by far more frightening. As you watch your friends die, or their heartbeats slip away from beneath your very hands, inevitably... That same monster of violence will come inside your heart too. To a degree..."

His tone went flat.

"...to a degree shinobi are the best of actors. Pretending to be sane while we are truly not. Judgements are quite easy to make while your hands are clean."

His glance fell shortly on Inechi-kun.

"Even so, if only that was true, if all shinobi are good for is bringing death, then the word is nothing more than a pretty synonym for murderer. You have no understanding of what a shinobi truly is, don't you, Inechi-kun?"

Golden eyes narrowed.

"A small bird that had not the chance to protect his home yet should not make assumptions where he shouldn't."

His glance shifted slightly to Yae's retreating back, the further words remaining unsaid, but the rebuke clear: Inechi Shironaegi has as much to learn as the child Yae.

The Academy bell rung: lunch period was over, it was time for classes to begin again.

As he breezed his way through the first few seals, Kuuya kept wishing for something a bit more challenging. He should have known better, you don't tempt fate like that or you're gonna get burned. He first caught fire on his initial attempt of the Bird seal. It looked simple enough to him, somewhat like the Tiger seal but different enough that he'd passed it over a few moments ago. He tried it out, intertwining his fingers and raising up all his pinky and index fingers such that they steepled over his other four digits. However nothing happened, no matter how much he wiggled and twerked his fingers around in that position, nothing at all happened. No resonance or tone or anything to signal success. He had finally failed.

"Oh, give me a break." Muttered Harusame darkly. "The next generation is indeed full of idealistic brats thinking they are ready to lecture already--how worthless."

She stood up.

"Yes, ideals are wonderful, small Hyuuga. Get too caught up in them, and you might as well forfeit what makes you you. If you and the rest of the children here don't grow a spine-..." She gestured an offhand at the Academy dojo. "...and honestly think this school is all that makes a shinobi, then you have wasted the past decade or so of your life as completely inattentive."

Her gaze settled outside the window.

"A hailstorm of tragedies will befall Konoha soon: keeping a good lock on those mouths will be a rather good place to start."

The bell sounded, and she paused.

"Hurry to class, little one."

He'd failed, but he knew that like everything else failure was temporary and so didn't dwell on it. Or rather he didn't dwell on the failure itself but the cause of said failure. Several questions ran through his mind in rapid fire succession: "Why hadn't the hand seal worked, right?", "What was different about this time?", "Where did that other guy go?", "Was that an explosion I heard earlier?", "I'm hungry", etc. Grant not all of these thoughts were on topic, nor were they all questions but at least some of his thought processes were firing in the right direction. He decided to re-examine the scroll to see if he could glean any information as to why his last attempt hadn't quite worked out the way he hoped. A close look showed that he had started from a flawed concept, the middle two fingers were not entwined as they had been in previous seals, instead on his finger tips resting above his palm they hung beneath it. Once he made this small change to his seal, he felt the chakra resonance of success once more.

[Annnnnnd forgot to roll]

Inosuke began the long walk into the academy, there he stood in the doorway to his classroom, staring inside. He looked for the path of least resistance, an empty desk up front. A trip to the library had already given him everything that he was going to need, just being her was a formality, and sadly, a necessity. He sat his bag beside a desk and slipped into the row. He removed his materials, a notebook, two number two pencils, and a bottle of water. He left the rest in his bag, it would just get in the way. He really hoped that he could just get by being left alone. That would be for the best, leave him to his studies and let him get on with his ninja journey.

His legs stopped moving. The boy stood still as the older Uchiha addressed him. He listened, thought on the dramatic words, and then made his decision. The young boy turned around, defiant red eyes meeting with narrowed gold.

"The way of the shinobi is found in death. That is the only truth of the shinobi." he quoted from the ancient text of Hagakure.

"I think you've become lost Akeru, Look for me when I don Konoha's symbol, I'll show you the Shinobi Way." Out of time, and ready for class Shiro walked off into the interiors of the Academy

He made his way back to their class room, without saying a word to the sensei he sat down and waited for the next lesson.

[Bird][18+05=23]
Inosuke opened his notebook to reveal an immaculately drawn picture of the Bird handsign. The tones of shading made it seem nearly three dimensional. Inosuke mimicked this picture with his own hands. He placed them together, palm to palm, then parted them, creating exactly a thirty-five degree angle, then he brought down his ring finger on either hand, his fingernails perpendicular to the desk and his middle finger joints pressed firmly into his hands. The very picture of perfection lie before him. "Tori, the bird." He released the symbol and placed his hands flat on the desk, flipping to the next page of his notebook.

[Boar][4+05=09]
Inosuke looked at his next drawing, a perfect boar sign. It had the same exquisit craftsmanship, as if drawn by some kind of artist. This is what happened when you had nothing better to do with your days other than read and draw. Inosuke put his hands together again, he turned them upside down and curled up his fingers. He then analyzed his work, critiquing it from inside the safety of his own thoughts.
'This is unacceptable. The angles are all wrong. My thumbs are not at all close to pointing out at a forty-five degree angle, and my fingers are not parallel to the ground. Poor form Ino, poor form.'

[Boar][6+05=11]
This time he would get it right. This time it would be perfect. He analyzed his drawing a little more, noting the angles of this simplistic handsign. Inosuke brought in all of his fingers into a monkey's palm, as he had hear it called, and pressed both of his hands together before turning them upside down. The angles sunk up almost perfectly ... almost was not a word that Inosuke was comfortable with though. He shook with anger as he dropped the imperfect handsign. He was supposed to be the child prodigy of the Yamanaka, but his handsigns were average quality at best.

Having solved the mystery of his one and only failure, Kuuya moved onto the next seal. He decided to do something simple, self-affirming and almost impossible to mess up, aka the Boar seal. Like the Dog seal before it, the Boar seal was outrageously easy to perform. With only minimal effort, Kuuya balled his hands into fists and held them aloft facing one another. The wrists were kissing, and then the last knuckles followed suit as extended all his fingers. Then with a deft rotation of his elbows, he inverted the shape such that the boar-shaped hand seal could be clearly seen. A jubilant chakra resonance confirmed, what his eyes told him, that he'd gotten it in one.

With thier bellies full Pakku put the bento box away and returned to his scroll. Whilst everyone else wasted thier time outside talking and what not, him and Chisana would get ahead in the class. After all they each had recieved a scroll with everything they needed to learn in it, so he'd simply move on to another jutsu, seemed simple enough. As Pakku grabbed and opened the scroll, Chisana climbed to his lap, and Pakku began reaing. "This jutsu stuff is much more complicated then I thought it'd be..." Pakku said as he brought his hands together and tried to perform the technique. With a poof of smoke, nothing happened... "Well that didn't work did it girl.." He said as he petted the back of Chisana's head as he read the scroll again.

Turning to Yae, she nodded and rose to follow her, taking the bento box with her own name from her hand. She was going to go in when she heard something from behind; it seemed that Shiro was arguing with the Uchiha on their definitions of the nindo.

"The way of the shinobi is found in death. That is the only truth of the shinobi.'

Sakura felt a rush of anger, replaced by an icy fury coursing through her. Abandoning her empty bento box, she whirled around and faced the white haired boy, barely containing her sudden urge to slap him in the face.

"You... you....! How dare you say such a thing! I thought you were better than this, Shironaegi-san!" she hissed, not caring for the repercussions that would follow, whatever they may be. "Are you saying that you just joined the Academy to kill? Would you kill all of us, in cold blood if we happened to cross your paths? Or born from another village?" Her voice grew softer, but her feelings of disgust still didn't leave. "Is that what it means to be a shinobi for you, Shiro-san, being mindless killers, killing other people's family and freinds just because you can? Those people are the same as us! We just fight to protect the things we hold dear, while they try to do the same." She shook her head slightly, backing off.

"I'm sorry. I don't pretend to know the way of the ninja, because I don't. But I can't agree with you there. That's just... not right. If... if... no. I'm sorry." Gripping her bento box, she whirled around and ran back to the building with blurred eyes, all the while blaming herself for acting stupid in front of everyone. Oh why did she have to open her mouth and make such a commotion!! Feeling her cheeks burn with shame, she ran off, to wherever her feet would take her for the moment, and not particularly caring, either.

(Hmmm, did I make this a little too angsty? :/ Don't hate me for this Tai XD)

Her constant changes in her action didn't affect the boy as much anymore, grasping at the very beginnings of an understanding of the Senju. He smiled quickly as the girl's disposition towards him grew kinder, as she store out the window, speaking of a hailstorm of tragedies, imparting words of wisdom onto Takami. The Hyuuga hated to admit it, but Harusame was right. The boy did need to think more before he opened his mouth, it would cause a lot less problems. The boy gave her a deep bow as she dismissed him, "Thank you for the advice," He came back up, his finger going to his lip thinking of how to phrase the rest of his thought, "I truly admire you, Harusame-sama, and one day, I hope to be as well renowned for taijutsu as you," he gave another respectful bow to the Senju, and turned, heading down the front set of stairs.

Taka quickly made his way down the stairs, stopping on the second floor, holding his grumbling stomach, wishing that he hadn't skipped lunch. He walked down the second set of stairs, taking the boy to the first floor, and quickly seeing the pink-haired girl storm off towards him, the young Hyuuga barely stopping before running into the pink-haired girl, and seeing the empty Bento boxes in their hands, the boys stomach grumbled louder. He turned quickly towards the pink haired girl, her chakra clearly labeling her as an Uchicha. "I don't believe that we've meet... uhm... formally," he added the last word, remembering the girl being there to witness his... incident. "My name is Hyuuga Takami, and you are?" He say Yae down the hallway a bit, and was glad that he was stopped before he reached her, she probably still thought he was an idiot. His mind quickly began to ponder how he apologize to her. He turned back to the pink haired girl, a warm smile on his face, the second bell ringing, "Care to walk to class with me?" he asked, not waiting for a reply. Making his way towards the classroom, the boy sat down at a desk in the front, pulling out some blank scrolls, and a pencil to get ready for the lesson.

As he walked away he could hear Sakurayuki yelling at him from behind but he didn't turn like he did to clash with Akeru. He could tell that the Jounin's words had confused her. It was clear now to Shiro that when one strayed from the Way they often misguided others as well. A troubling realization for the boy. He had thought that his teachers would all be excellent practitioners of the Way but it appeared that was not the case. Perhaps the ones who truly exemplified the Way were out fighting in the war and could not be spared to teach them. That thought was also troubling. Perhaps he would simply need to work harder and establish his name earlier to earn a spot with the true warriors. As he mulled over these troubling facts something he did not anticipate happened. He heard running from behind, his mind raced with the possibilities, the most frightening and perhaps most exciting one to him was the idea of Akeru charging after him for a challenge. However when he turned around a flash of pink caught him by surprise. He grabbed her arms as she ran into his chest, feet dug into the floor, so to speak, as he braced himself so as not to be knocked over. His red eyes looked down upon her, studying her.

"Yuki-chan, crying doesn't suit you. You're too pretty to cry." he told her.

"I... I'm not sure how to explain this but I'm not here to mindlessly kill." he began "Being a shinobi isn't just about killing either but in the end it's defined by death. Sure you can help some people without clashing against the ambition of rival shinobi but in the end shinobi kill other shinobi. There is no escaping that, and if you can't do that you should leave. I don't want to see you get killed because you were too nice." he paused for brief moment letting his words sink into her mind.

"I joined the academy for two reasons Yuki-chan. The first is to become as legendary as Senju Tobirama. The second is so that my younger brother doesn't have to." As he felt an old anger inside himself again he loosened his grip and he let go. He didn't want to accidentally hurt her. Once he wasn't holding her his fist tightened "We live outside the village walls, if the Hi no Kuni forces attack again like they did when they first tried to take the village our home will be hit first. " he forcibly opened his hand and smiled, repressing his anger. It was somewhat strange but he couldn't stand being this serious for so long. It was against his nature.

"Geez, look at me, I sound like an old geezer." he laughed "All this serious talk really has me pumped for training though! We're all ready a little late so we should probably get to class."

Fudou latched onto Shirogami's affirmation when Akeru reprimanded him. He nodded, making a bare effort to be sincere, and watched the drama unfold. He still didn't understand what had been wrong with his statement - or Shirogami's for that matter. (Though it pained him to agree with that guy. Had it pained Shiro to agree with him?) The Uchiha was talking about death right in his first few words... so that supported what Shirogami said, right? And what he said too, that real shinobi work would be beyond anything they'd ever do in academy. Fudou failed to understand that he had probably drawn the ire of the older man by failing to treat the subject matter with appropriate levity. As people started to leave, Fudou picked his empty bento box too, ready to slip away at the appropriate moment. Fortunately he didn't do so before Shiro's parting words to Akeru. Fudou's respect for the guy grew upon that statement. Clearly he had his own ideals paved out already. He almost envied the guy. With the exception of several things, his own ideals were as fluid as water.

Similarly, his respect for the pink-haired girl dropped when he saw her grossly misinterpret Shiro's words. (Though he did learn that Shirogami's name was actually Shironaegi. Eh, his nickname sounded better.) He watched her go, feeling by now thoroughly superior. What can I say, Fudou's arrogance would be his downfall some day. He nodded at the Uchiha and Amaya and said to Ko-sensei, who had joined them just now, "I'm going back to the classroom now, sensei." Fudou caught the tail end of Shiro's conversation with the pinkhead as he passed them on his way to the academy. What changes in his opinion of Shiro he had, he kept them to himself. When he reached the academy steps he spotted Takami's bento and medical scrolls just sitting there. All 8 scrolls and 2 books... and his long notes. He hadn't paid much attention earlier, but they looked to be extremely comprehensive. Had he forgotten them? Shrugging, Fudou picked them up and took them inside. He might as well, especially since the guy would be helping him after school.

He walked past Yae into the classroom, taking note of two new arrivals. Briefly he wondered what would have happened if he actually knew these people existed and brought Senju here instead. Oh well, it was all in the past now. He paused next to Takami's desk and dropped his bento off. "You forgot this. I'll keep a hold of the medical scrolls for now? And your notes?"

Wisdom cannot be imparted upon the ears of those whom will not listen. To continue to engage with this bold fledgling would be to become as childish as Senju-hime. And so, he lets them go.

But he understands a little better, of what Harusame had meant, once a time three years ago when the barest hint to her feelings was unwittingly unveiled. This child speaks like a wizened old man. Noted Akeru silently with dismay. Furthermore, he was no stranger to that gaze.

The gaze of a cornered animal.

Is this what you mean, Senju-sempai? The children of this era are already growing such cold eyes.

"Lost, hn?"

If he was lost, what did that make that child, Inechi-kun? His childhood friend had similar eyes to this boy's... However the cruelties of this era had made them even colder, even harder. Until he cannot even recognize the girl he had grown up with anymore.

"It's really too sad."

He headed for the door as well, but paused at the entrance.

The smile to Amaya was uneasy, nervous this time. He wonders what she thinks of all that transpired...

"Coming along, Amaya-chan?"
