<<はいはい!元気だよ!君は?>>

"This can't be all you're made of." He sounded like a standard bored teenager unimpressed with the performance of his peer. Back in his battle garb of the season, Keno had taken to entertain himself with a little spar against his yet to be born son. Truthfully, he knew the boy would just love to give him a few sound knocks about the side of the head. Not feeling the least bit threatened, he figured it would be good at least for a warm-up. Under those premises he was now toying with the kid, who seemed totally sub-par next to someone like Keno.

In actuality though, he admired the amount of skill the boy really had. His form was refined and clearly his own, developed with nothing short of rigorous training, trial and error, and of course the base requirement of blood and sweat. From the looks of it, he would do a good job raising a disciplined warrior, which put his heart at ease since he didn't want a spoiled little brat with more power than form. Such a child would only be an insult to the image Keno had set up for himself.

Kenta was graceful, not wasting the least bit of energy in excessive action, swift, floating lightly on his toes and responding keenly to Keno's every move. Most importantly, he thought as he took a left punch straight to the bicep - protecting his more vulnerable rib area - the boy was very strong. He put an unprecedented amount of strength into even his weakest punches, which Keno both admired and failed to completely understand. The light steps and hard hits meant the boy went to lengths to develop a lot of stamina, and given a limp doll to fight with, he'd make short work of it. Imagine what he could do with something built to take a beating.

Twisting his body at the hips to dodge another punch, his right arm clamped around his son's right wrist as the blade of his left arm traveled under the boy's arm. The pinky side of his hand struck the kitsune in the throat, causing to gag, just enough time for Keno to plant his right fist into Kenta's face, knocking the boy only fifteen feet away, flat on his back, growling with frustration and pain. Obviously he was upset, but Keno was enjoying this.

Obediently, the boy rose to his feet. Not to Keno's verbal command, but to the memory of his father's consistent and engraved demand. The same two words he would hear every time his father put him on the ground rung in his ears as true as ever: Get up! He loathed hearing it every time he was grounded, but he couldn't help it now. The words had nestled themselves into his mind, like muscle memory in a sense, he just heard it instinctively now. Disgusting as it was, he couldn't help it.

Face still stinging, he moved in again, but his father got the upper hand, and was in low. There wasn't enough time to block, so he rolled clumsily on the ball of his right foot as KenoTao's right fist came in, clearly aimed at actually crushing the boy's ribs. Here he had an advantage, for he knew his father's style all too well, and he didn't throw such powerful strikes out without thinking he'd actually hit. Always there was calculation for execution. To make up for it, Kenta had built up his endurance so that even if he missed 9 out of 10, that one strike would be something to remember regardless. Calculating how much strength to use wasn't needed with such a tactic. Not the best approach perhaps, but to keep up with his father, he had to be able to make every hit count, not just the obvious ones, but all of them.

His father's strike met its target, but a lot of its energy was gone. Kenta had spun, and the punch had accelerated this, resulting in him spinning foolishly as he tried to correct his footing. Before he could get a firm standing, his feet were swept from under him. There was absolutely no way for him to prepare for it and he cursed himself, knowing that even now, before the boy was even supposed to be born, his father had such a power advantage in his favor. Truth be told, this was mere child's play to Kenta, but that didn't change the fact that he was losing.

Rising again to his feet, eyes glaring viciously at his father, he tried to control his breathing and maintain his calm. KenoTao had but one chance to screw up and he was done for. All Kenta had to do was find a weakness, a flaw in his form, and exploit it mercilessly.

No expression, no concern, just patience. Kenta was still an amateur after all. He had his wits about him and was quick on his toes, but maybe his toes were too quick for his wits, or vice versa. Either way, the boy had to learn to pay more attention. Clearly he wasn't blessed with some of Keno's more practical sensory capabilities. That was a major disadvantage against most of the people in the club. Would Kenta actually spar against the future forms of Keno's allies? That was an interesting question to bring up. How often did he fight Jade, or Sabrina, or Ren, or Tali, or Deity, or Sir Aaron, or the Briefs'. When would he encounter User and how bad would he take his beating?

As these questions surfaced, Kenta was on the move again. No worry as Keno could see plain as day how the boy was moving, practically crawling to him by his own perception. He returned to the cat and mouse game before, letting the boy build momentum before knocking him down again. Swaying like a pendulum, he easily avoided each punch thrown his way, his feet acting subtly beneath him, not fearing a sweep of any sort. It would be too obvious to see as it stood now. Kenta had long legs though, and excellent reach, but that sort of came with being taller than your father. When he finally did kick, Keno had begun literally walking in circles, and dodged the attack simply by crouching.

He saw the hesitation, the automatic assumption that he would throw the boy's legs from under him again. Kenta had lept back, albeit lightly. Clearing a good foot and a half at least, he was preparing for a counter attack for what would be Keno's blind spot, but Keno didn't sweep. Instead, when the boy lept, the feline pounced, the shock on Kenta's face was priceless. Left palm blinding and smothering the vulpine, Keno carried the boy another twenty feet before sowing the tile ring with the back of the kitsune's skull.

Once again on his back, the boy was absolutely frustrated and more than a little discouraged. Of course, when he felt discouraged like this, he only got more upset in the end and thus more driven to fight. He wanted to get up, but his father was making it perfectly clear that he was powerless to do so. Why was it so hard? Probably because Keno wouldn't stop trying to bury his head in stone. Both hands on the man's left arm and yet he couldn't pull the limb off of his face. Quickly feeling panic as his head began to ring with the incessant Get up! Get up! Get up! he fired a random, yet forceful blast of ki out of his left hand toward what he assumed to be the chest cavity. Not being able to see clearly had the side effect of inaccuracy.

Well clearly he had hit his mark, or at least fended his father off since he was soon liberated and quickly back on his feet. Of course, hoping to see his father spread out on the floor, he was horribly disappointed when he saw him standing there, hardly looking any worse for wear. This simply wasn't fair. No matter what he did, he always ended up looking the fool against his father. How many years' training did he need to match this one individual? When would he ever be able to catch up?

His breathing was heavy, and he though he wanted nothing more than to just crack the feline's skull in two, he knew that it wasn't going to happen this time. Not tonight. Would it ever? It was such a disappointing thing to think about. How much longer would he have to wait. He didn't even move this time. There wasn't a rational move to make and he wouldn't go and make things worse for himself, but he couldn't make himself end the match. Refusing to give up or advance, he was stuck trying to remain sane while his father had that ever patient, uncaring, indecipherable expression on it. God he hated that look. He wanted to wipe it off of his father's face, but he could not.

"That's enough," he said calmly, turning his back to the boy, a clear opening if the youth was so daring. He could see that Kenta was clearly only getting more upset with himself as things were. Countless failures, no doubt, to which he would add this additional one. Truly it had to be the most discouraging thing to deal with, and yet he was so determined to keep this going. Only on Keno's command would he stop it appeared, and this the wild eyed feline believe as he had made it halfway to the edge of the ring without being assaulted. At the pace he was moving, Kenta could have dealt with him before his first footstep hit the ground.

"You're not bad kid. A little rough around the edges, but who isn't? I suggest you work more on your defense though. You'll never be able to hit anyone if they keep hitting you first." His speech was rough, and was supposed to have a bit of venom in them, for otherwise, the boy wouldn't take them too their full value. His pride would not be tarnished enough to actually take the advice to heart.

"You should try to be more careful next time. I don't want to see my DNA spilled all over the place because you went and did something stupid like get careless." Hopping off out of the ring, he moved immediately for the corridor, not bothering to look back and see how Kenta was actually taking this verbal beating. It was likely just insult to injury, which is what Keno intended, so good for him. If he lost any sleep over it, whatever. The boy had to learn. Vanishing slowly as he usually did, he left Kenta to pick up the shattered fragments of his ego and go off to wherever it was that he slept in this world.
