7th September 2010

Okay, I've decided to plan a new fiction. I'm going to try my best to finish Verum but I have to start looking at the future. Off to Uni in two and a bit weeks so...I won't have much time to do everything I want to do. An author is now commenting on my work and that makes me really happy. She's given me hope for my work...

Anyway, I've decided to stick with political fantasy as the genre with the new story as it was so popular. Of course I am making it gay fiction, got to have my own little pleasure!

Now...after an hour or so of planning I'm going to force myself to plough through Verum...ack. It's a big political scene now, one I haven't been looking forward to...

Politics... *shudder* I don't mind them, I really don't. Its just that... the research is insane. There's about 50 sides to every story and so many angles to every view.
I still have to find out exactly what the political problems in my story are, and then I have to dig into the major research. How do you do it?

Oh, and it must be fun to have the opinion of a published author. Congrats on that. I know sometimes I'd like an opinion from someone experienced, not just my english teachers who are just thrilled to read my work after putting up with so much crap from less enthusiastic students.

What you said about the genre you've chosen: how much do you think about what will be popular with your audience? I know we've both heard to 'write what you love and don't care what other people think' but since our soul purpose is to entertain others, outside opinion is a real factor.

Aww, way to bash me indirectly, Princess! xd

I can't stand politics. So all the more power to you for being not only able to research it, but put it together into a worthwhile piece of fiction!

And don't worry about not having time. You'll have less of it, yeah, but there's always a way to cram in some write time.

Princess - There are so many loopholes! My current one is less on the politics side but the new one I am planning is being a b***h hahaha. Politicians are sneaky, sly and downright awkward... It is very nice to have a published author! She points out the things I need to improve on and it has a market, which I was shocked at. To be honest, I can never find anything like mine on the British market...

With your question about how much is the audience important, I think it is split. I've always written what I would like to read. When I plan and start writing, I don't think about the potential audience. However, I used to write a very different market until I saw the shere amount of people who wanted to read gay fiction. So...I decided to just write one and post it on the internet. To my shock, it was loved. It wasn't my best piece and I hated it. My audience shaped me then. I got to write what I loved and in return I knew people out there would want it. That way, I've learnt what is popular and what isn't. So, I win with whatever way I want to write!

Phade - I used to loathe politics, until a few months ago I was old enough to vote. My friends are guys and huge on politics so I learnt from them as I wanted my vote to count. (Also, one of my subjects was highly involved in politics). It inspired me a great deal. I wish I was better putting it into writing but that comes with time and experience!
I know I will find time somewhere to write! It's handy as my new phone has an E-Book system and it has all my English Lit books on there so reading on the go!

@General: Haha, I just now remember you said almost that same thing to me in another thread floating around here. Yes, I am often thinking about what the audience wants because I have this obsession with being rich one day, and if my books could do that for me, all the better. But the audience will seriously have to love them.
However, it thrills me to think of new things to entertain 'them' so I'm still writing what I love. And there are still plenty of things I refuse to write about.

@Desert: I'm one of those people who really wants to read gay fiction. Of course, I'm still living at home with religious parents (I am too, I just have a few... sins I must indulge in xd ) so I can't just have those sorts of books sitting around at home. The internet is my next best option, and it's always thrilling to find someone who's posted an entire story online. (though I know what you mean about posting 'less than satisfactory' work)
I find politics interesting, but also frustrating, so I can only talk about it for so long. I'll be happier making up my own politics. I wish I had some friends who were really into it. My dad is a political genius, I think, so I suppose he'll have to fill that space. Oh geez, that reminds me, I'm so tired of hearing about Obama, whether its good or bad... *fizzle*

Sometimes I really do wonder about my target market. Today I was planning my new fiction and I just sat there thinking who would read it. It's popular on FictionPress, the stuff I write but will it be marketable? Most gay fiction involves adults and mine mostly always has an older teen main (eighteen or nineteen in case I decide to go for America). Sometimes I wish I could focus on a fiction that would be mainstream but I'd rather write what I want.

I know how you feel Neuschwanstein Princess (your name is so long hahaha)! My dad is very...homophobic and he turns a blind eye to what I read and write. He encourages my writing, just not the subjects. Didn't help that my brother decided to tell him outright that I write it.
Politics can be extremely boring at times, I admit, probably why I'm stalling on Verum. I wish we had Obama hahaha! Our current government seems to be targeting the poorest people - students.
Oooo by the way, I love your sig xD

When I think about who will read my books, Harry Potter fans always come to mind. In other words, I don't think as much in terms of Adult, YA, Childrens, etc. I mean, Harry Potter is one of the two biggest factors that got me writing so I tend to compare my story to it.
I don't even know how my parents would react to my liking gay fiction... And I don't think they'll ever find out, really. I don't have tattle-tale brothers wink I actually depend on my brother alot though- he's the number one listener to all my writing ideas. I think I'd explode if I didn't have someone to share all my aspirations with.
Oh, and I know about my name. My computer remembers it so I never actually have to type it, luckily. I'm changing it again, just as soon as I think of something I really like. (I thought I'd like the one I have now. Time proved me wrong.)

I never quite know what to think about our government. I live in a republican state, so mostly what I hear is how Obama's running us into the ground. My dad is one of the few who's in favor of him though, so I still get to hear some of the good stuff he's doing. I tend to support him, I mean, I can hardly imagine any of our other options would have been better. And America is still one of the best countries in the world to be living in. As long as it stays that way, I can generally support our president.
And I just couldn't resist the sig.

Haha, yes, mine is like Harry Potter gone gay. Ugh, and at least you have a brother you can confide in. I just sat there when he blurted it out, went a little embarrassed and then just shrugged. The fact I write sexual stuff isn't a surprise given how open my parents are.

Haha, your name I have to copy and paste!

I think Obama is a good speaker, better than anyone I've heard. He wanted to bring a new health system in that was like ours (NHS) and I was surprised at how many people didn't want it. We get free dental and health treatment...
Your sig just makes me laugh. Did it honestly come up?

I would love to read a gay Harry Potter! I guess I would kind of consider my parents open; its not like the completely accept things like homosexuality, but they would still get along with people who were, just not as close friends.
We kind of live in a bubble where things like drugs, teen pregnancy, homosexuality, and other taboo subjects just don't tend to come up, so I haven't ever seen my parents react to it.
I always thought Obama was really chrismatic too. I don't know too much about the health care reform, but I do know people don't want it cause they're scared the quality of service will go down. Docter's wages will decrease, but that's their problem. And health insurance companies use it as an opportunity to raise their initial cost, so instead of paying $500 per person up front, its more like $1500. This is especially problematic for big families. For example, my parents have five kids, so to get insurance would cost $7350, initially. I don't know all the details, but our health care plan won't be completely free.
And yes, my sig was a real thing that came up. Kudos to the employee that came up with that.

Reading gay Harry Potter is my secret love haha. Oh, I couldn't imagine a household unlike mine. My parents are extremely open, so are the rest of my family. I grew up around boys, which only makes it worse haha!
Hmmm, it's hard to think of another country's health care. Ours is good, but probably not as good quality as America.
A real image...wow. How come I never got that?!

I envy girls who grow up around boys. Either they're super good at sports and know everything about cars, or they know exactly how to capture a guys heart. I grew up with... younger siblings. I still struggled with the other half of the population.
And... I only got the image once out of three voyages I went on with Louie. I doubled over laughing, I don't think he ever did anything better (or worse) the entire trip.

Haha, I love the fact I grew up around boys. My family are all boys (around my age) and all my friends have been. I'm not sporty and it was horrible when we were split up my gender in PE...ugh. I hate cars even though my dad owns a garage. However, you are right in we know how guys work. I know how they think and why they act. They aren't that different from girls.
I think that is why I find it so easy to write from the male perspective.

I am so jealous of you getting that message! Haha, I played it about five times and never got it *cries*.

My novel is actually from the male perspective too, but I'm a little worried that I won't be able to do it as well. I've ready plenty of books from the male perspective, which has kind of been my research for it.
I just finished another frontier journey, but with Carl, cause I wanted that medal. For me, 40k is nothing to frown at. Now I just have to decide whether to sell it now or wait half a year for the price to go up.

Haha, I've almost always read books from the male perspective and I love it haha. I loathe any 'girly' book.
Ugh the frontier journeys distract me too much from work hahaha. So I've decided not to do them. Saying that...I'll probably go on it later!

18th September 2010

Wellllll, I thought I'd update this! Verum is going better now I'm onto the unveiling of secrets and stuff. Still waiting to get my chapter back from my Beta sad .

My new political one...well I've had a massive idea about how I could create new fiction so I have to modify my planning and government system. More work and time I haven't got because I'm moving next weekend yay! University!
