Valin listened to her rant - the same rant he heard everytime he ever said anything about anything, "We Jedi have a particular habit to be really annoying to everyone, everywhere. I know I show up when I'm least wanted - that's when I'm generally most needed to knock around a few heads though," He looked at her with a smirk and being as honest as her, "Just because little Red doesn't want some sound advice about keeping cool and being a good little girl, doesn't mean no one else does. And for someone who can make ice - you're really quite hotheaded."
Yes, he was attempting to poke buttons. Yet he was also being as honest as she was.
"I would take our bout seriously," The Jedi said, "I can't say I won't make in-fight banter. Which is what you hate isn't it? I think you're jealous about how witty I am."

Walking away, she she condensed water vapor into a six foot, one inch thick staff of ice, twirling it about lazily as she left the spectators' seats. "Your honesty lacks the same sort of sting I might expect from Rutum, but I suppose I should give you an 'A' for effort. Since talking is your thing, go right ahead and say whatever you will. It doesn't irritate me that people talk when they fight, but I have little reason to care, listen, or respect someone whose only focus is to try and distract me."

"Ah. And that's where you are wrong, dear," He said as he took his lightsaber hilt from his belt, igniting the silver the blade with a snap-hiss, "The talking keeps me focused. The talking attempts to show me as unfocused. And my recent forty plus hour meditation," He said with cold eyes and a voice just as cold, "That was on everything that happened. The war. My crimes. Everything. I'm not ignoring it anymore. I have to accept it, deal with it, and move on eventually."
He suddenly jumped forward, on the attack. She wanted this fight, he was giving it. His style he chose was Vaapad - the most dangerous lightsaber style for the Jedi as well as the enemy. Vaapad bordered on the edge of falling to the dark side, as it channeled one's enjoyment of fighting into the attack. The style was a path that lead through the penumbra of the dark side... which was Vaapad's ultimate test.
No games this time. She wanted a fight, Valin would give it. As he landed near her, he didn't even attack with the blade. He held it to away from both of them tossed his right boot towards her chest.

His first attack was clearly just to get the ball rolling. She could feel him coming upon her quickly, a bit unexpectedly, but not completely unfathomable. In swift response she turned back to face him and rose her hands over her head as she thrust the ice rod at the Jedi's throat. Yeah he was six feet tall and her rod was six feet long, but simple geometry stated that for a 90 degree triangle, the slanted leg had to be longer than both of the others. By lifting the rod up, she would effectively cut his attack short if he did not evade somehow.
Just for extra measure, she made sure to activate PermaFrost, channeling mana through her left arm which was diffusing the spell throughout her tool of defense. At least he wasn't p***y footing.

Valin dodged the attack and landed just as the it passed by his head, barely missing his face. He brought his blade to slice through the rod - however, when it met the ice... it didn't cut. The lightsaber's blade just sorta bounced off having not used enough sustained force behind the attack to keep up a block.
"Well that's unusual," He commented in a rather confused voice. This had left him briefly exposed and unprotected. To recover, he attempted to backflip out of there to gather his thoughts together to form a plan. At least now he knew that Red had some way to block his lightsaber attacks.

Now having the forward momentum of the battle with Valin's slight confusion, the ruby kitsune moved in to corner the Jedi. As he flipped away she moved in to keep the distance close between them, her arms now lowered, her right at her waist and her left up to about chest level, the tip of her staff ahead of her in case he tried anything cunning.
Upon landing, Valin would have to act fast as Red swung the rod down in an arc to smash into the right side of his right knee cap, which might effectively immobilize him.
