Another titan came into view and he slashed at it cockily, his old overconfidence problem starting to creep up again. As he raised his second blade to complete the kill, a sound startled him and he winced before glancing to see what it was. The second blade fell back to his side in disbelief.
"Jeong? Did you get... stung?" Why did it look like his brother was covered in angry spots? He'd heard the sound of his brother crashing into the cutout but at least the more technical of the two hadn't smashed right through it.
"Remember, aim for the titans, not the bees!" Mimicking his brother's words to him, Hwan's version sounded a lot more condescending and teasing.

"What does it look like?!" Jeong glared as his exposed skin shone with the welts of several stings. He wasn't going to be getting any action back at the dorm tonight, looking like this. It wasn't that Jeong prided himself on being super pretty but he knew he was handsome and this was really unattractive looking. Not to mention it hurt.
At Hwan's next comment, Jeong's face morphed into an expression that cannot be described. He left without another word.
So much for calming down.

It didn't take long at all to spot the next titan she would target. Sparing a glance down at her gear, Larisa mentally judged how much gas she ought to have left and then, deciding she had a satisfactory amount, gunned it for the cutout. Trees shot past even more quickly than usual and it made maneuvering more risky, but...The faster training was finished, the faster she could go deal with things and the faster this forest would be clear of these horrible figures. She'd even be that much closer to reaching the tops of her own trees.
The trainee twisted in the air as she approached, using the spin to add more force behind her strike, and her blades bit down deep through the cushion and gouged into the wood. Landing on the nearest branch, she turned to look back at her work and felt a glimmer of pride fight its way back up at the sight. Fourth titan down, one to go.

Okay maybe he shouldn't have said that. Jeong's footsteps were the only sound he made as he stomped away moodily. Today's training had been rough and the scare from earlier was clearly taking a toll on his twin. Hwan knew he ought to apologize and he wanted to but it would be kinder to give his double a little space to let off some steam. Good thing all these stupid wooden boards were everywhere, right? They'd be good for that.
'Dammit, how is she so good at this?' In the distance, he noticed a girlish figure whizzing through the trees slicing and dicing the titans with ease. For a girl that didn't want to be in the Scouts, why was she so perfect for them? Slight jealousy flared up in his chest and he was too stuck in his own ego to take down his next titan, both blades knocking against the cutout instead of cutting through it.

'Where's the next ******** titan?' Dark eyes scanned the area, aiming to find another target and end this before his brother finished. How dare Hwan mock him after scaring the s**t out of him and finding him covered in stings! On a normal day one of those would be fine. Both though? That was pushing it. Jeong was known as the calmer of the pair but he had a temper too. He also had a little bit more pride. Having fallen this far from before, when he'd been acing most of the classes, this was unacceptable for him.
In his rush, he scraped against a tree during a swing and hissed in pain. The next thing he saw was going to die.

He wasn't going to lose. He was going to join the Scouting Legion and drag himself to the top even if it meant putting up with this hell. Something in his mind clicked again, back into that focused serious state. Right now, he felt like he could do anything as long as he didn't lose concentration. Swiftly shooting through the air, he attempted a spin with his blades held in front of him like a drill. It was a complicated move but he was starting to feel capable of more.
"I can do this." He grunted as his blades hit the wood and he bore through it roughly. It wasn't great but he'd gotten the principle down. Now he just needed to perfect it. Tomorrow he would trade tips and techniques with Jeong and together they'd learn the secrets to success.

There! A shadow lurked and he spun towards it. His blades ready to kill, only once he was behind the cut out did he notice something.
'Wait...' The cushion had already been slashed off! Thrown off by this discovery, Jeong wasn't sure if he could use the titan for credit. Pissed off, stressed, and confused created a cocktail of fury that he released on the titan cutout's body. Slashing wildly at the monster's head, Jeong descended down into madness and just let his body vent. The blades would be dulled by the extra use and need to be replaced but Jeong wasn't thinking about that right now. Gone were the thoughts of how to angle the blade just right and how the pressure should be applied just so in order to not waste extra energy.
Hacking the wood to pieces, the man looked at the shattered pile when he was done, chest heaving.
Then he was off again.

Larisa soared through the air again, pushing her gear for all it was worth. Only one more, just one. With two successful strikes in a row, she was beginning to think she was getting better at this. A third would definitely cement the idea as fact! Finally spotting an untouched target, she shifted to change course for it, twisting under a branch along the way. She repeated the strike, just as she'd done it before, and was rewarded with a kill only slightly less perfect than the other. A cheer spilled out before she'd even thought about it, but then her gas began to sputter.
Some quick maneuvering brought her back to the ground, though she landed a little heavily, and Larisa started her trek back to the start of the forest. Along the way she found herself going over her successes proudly. If she could keep that up, killing titans would be nothing, and if she trained enough, her body would react even if she was scared, right? So she'd never have to stand and watch when she could be saving people. A genuine smile made its appearance at last, and she wondered how Hwan and Jeong were doing. She couldn't wait to tell them-
But then she remembered. She wasn't going to be fighting titans. She was going into the Garrison, where she'd be safe, and Hwan and Jeong were going out there without her. It didn't matter how good she was at this, did it?

He'd done it! All these practices were paying off and he could feel and see the growth from that first day flying through the trees. It had been a hard steady climb upwards but he was finally far up enough the hill to be able to look down and see where he'd started and know he was no longer there. Still high off the victory of his last success, Hwan tried to look through the trees for any sign of his brother or Larisa.
What he saw was Jeong having a major meltdown.
"Hey! HEY! Are you-" His eyes locked onto Jeong's back as wooden pieces flew from a bladed rampage and Hwan failed to prioritize looking where he was going over Jeong going crazy. Smashing into another cutout, one of his blades pierced through it's stomach and he could swear it had lurched backwards strangely as if it had absorbed the force only to-
"NO!" Catapulted back the direction he'd come, Hwan went flying past Jeong. Limbs flailed in the air as he tried to turn his body to see any oncoming obstacles or branches that might knock him out.
WHUMP. His midsection smacked and curled around a thick branch that winded him but his remaining blade soared on and stabbed perfectly bullseye into the nape of another cut out.
Hey, maybe all those dart games were working out.

"Hey! HEY! Are you-"
Changing direction, Jeong came back around to witness Hwan's body flip through the air and land painfully in a tree. Instead of concern, this time he flew over and landed on the branch to crouch and look down into his brother's eyes.
"I said, aim for the titans, not the trees."
The words were muttered just loudly enough to shame him. Now that the rage had been released from his body, Jeong had reverted back to how he usually handled his irritation: coldly. Cool eyes glanced over at the titan with Hwan's blade sticking out and a thought occurred to him. Straightening back up, Jeong looked at the titan and spoke again.
"Like this."
Whirling through the air, he propelled himself over to the cut out and sliced around Hwan's sword in the cushion. The fabric ripped and the blade went tumbling down to the ground. Landing on a tree across the way, Jeong glanced back to his brother, struggling up from his painful position.
"Understand? See you back at the start." And then he slipped off into the trees, heading back to find Larisa.

"Hey! Watch this!" Slamming on the gas, his body flew past Jeong like a bullet projectile. A blade curved out as he neared a titan and Hwan's first strike cut through the nape like butter. Unfortunately, he hadn't accounted for the possibility that it might get stuck in the cutout and his whole body attempted to jerk to a stop as he held onto the handle. Yelping from the dizzying motion, he let go to just make it end already and toppled to the ground.
His second blade hit the ground before he did and his hand grazed it painfully. He let out a short but loud cry and curled around the injured palm cursing his luck. Jeong was never going to let him forget this day at this rate.

He had to get one more successful kill in before Baldy would let him stop for the day. Unfortunately, the gash on his palm was going to make that difficult. Wincing as he gripped the handle of the blade, he tested how tightly he could hold onto it before it became unbearable. His strikes were going to be way off now. But there wasn't anything to be done about it here on the field.
"Sssshit." Pained hissed words escaped him as his fingers worked the triggers for the cables and gas. He'd never really thought much about it but the entire gear kind of relied on one's hands. Sure, there were the straps all over their body that meant they could shift their weight to steer and such but everything was operated by hands. Walls, he was going to have to be more careful with his if he wanted to survive out there.
He managed to find a titan and jerkily fly towards it but his hits were off and barely scraped the nape of the neck off. Sinking to the ground, he wished today was already over and he wouldn't have to visit the infirmary again. Especially not with 'can't you do anything right?' Jeong who was sure to coddle him now.
Hwan let his brother collect him and they left in search of Larisa wordlessly.
