I can't figure this out, and haven't found it anywhere either, so if I missed it, a link to the proper thread would be greatly appreciated! When upgrading a DM senshi to a DM super senshi, do they only require a cat to upgrade the henshin pen and then they mirror walk through any old mirror, or do they need a cat + a fourth stager? Or a cat + a third stager since third stagers can awaken dark mirror senshi? This question was answered on the previous page! We are in the process of moving over questions asked in the MQ&A into info threads to make it easier to find this information and will announce when the threads have been updated.
To answer your question, Dark Mirror Senshi require a Chaos Cat to upgrade their Henshin Pen however they will not physically change or unlock new powers until they step through a Mirror. Because Dark Mirror Senshi’s magic are tied to Mirrorspace, it is a two step process. The cat is needed to unlock the potential, and Mirrorspace is needed to access it. A Dark Mirror Royal is not necessary, and a Cat does not need any Senshi to assist them.

What is the present state of plumbing in the Cathedral / Negaspace? It's exceedingly expensive and large-scale invasive to try to install indoor plumbing in buildings that old, but with magic in the picture, I have no idea how bathroom needs are met by those who stay for an extended period in Negaspace!
Maybe they just wander out and pop a squat in the Rift & bathe in its gross rivers?
Plumbing is adequate to suit the Negaverse’s needs. While the castle may be ancient, other structures have been built to house characters who cannot return to the outside world; half youma and ascended Senshi may choose to live in the Barracks due to their permanent change in appearance and lack of a civilian glamour. The Negaverse has never had an issue with funds and likely makes renovations on the Castle and Barracks as need be based on the needs of the characters.
The Castle, Barracks, and general living accommodations all have running water; while it has not been ICly addressed it is safe to assume that there is a water source in the ground near the castle. It would have been transported into Negaspace at the time the Earth City was, however is inaccessible.

Under the impression that Quest Fairies do not come with cooldowns, the wording in the cool down thread is confusing.
You may get either ONE alternate civilian piece of art or ONE new civilian character by free means per month. This means being gifted by a staff member, Quest Fairies, or freebie raffles.
Does this mean that if you received a Quest Fairy for a civilian only character, they're automatically applied with a cool down?
While there are no credit gift claims currently in the cool down, they're usually placed in the PAID section of the cool downs. Does that mean that because they're technically paid by the staff member they count as paid or are they still considered a freebie for the recipient?
Do quest fairies for powered characters get civilian art or are they powered form only? (If this is listed somewhere, I've missed it in my searches.)
The wording in the Cool Down thread is incorrect and has been edited to clarify! It has been altered to say 'You may get either one alternate civilian piece of art or one new civilian character by free means per month. This generally means free customs run by the artists'. Quest Fairies and Contest Wins do not function on the same cooldowns; Quest Fairies are meant to reward a player for any number of reasons and do not have a cooldown. Contest Wins may have a cooldown applied to them, but this cooldown is to ensure a single player does not win multiple event characters in a short period of time. We have clarified this as well!
If a staff member purchases a character with credits, it counts as currency and so the player the character is purchased for goes on powered cooldown.
Quest fairies for powered characters may be given a civilian along with their powered form, but this is not guaranteed. All Quest Fairies are handled on a case by case basis. If the artists are busy or have long lists but staff sees someone they want to reward, they may only be Quest Fairied the powered art (as that allows them to play both civilian and powered forms).

Why don't guardian cat forms require a birthday? There are two "ages" kitten and adult, but what does that mean for how the mauvians age?
DO they age or are they stuck in a stasis like state, bodies/youth/age stuck in time like chibimoon in the series?
Guardian Cats don’t require a birthday because they age differently than humans. On the forms, we need to make sure that human characters are in the appropriate age range (either to attend specific schools, hold specific occupations, use specific templates, or awaken in specific factions). Mauvians don’t have these limitations and the age at which they awaken isn’t as important. For Mauvians born on Earth, they start off as unaware cats and awaken into their power at any point during their life. You may have a five month kitten awaken as a Mauvian or a twelve year old cat awaken as a Mauvian (as, until they awaken into their powers they live their lives as if they were an ordinary Earth Cat) but the age they awaken at is irrelevant to what powers they come into or what information they can start with when they awaken. For Mauvians that arrived on Earth after going through statis, they would be preserved at whatever age they were when they were put into stasis. Similarly to Earth born cats, they could have been put into stasis at any age but they would all awaken with the same powers and the same information as other Mauvians.
While Mauvians can age, we leave this up to player decision. For example, if they would like to have an older cat that looks like a kitten, they have access to all templates. Many cat breeds, even while adult, can be small or look like they are still kittens, so because of the extreme variation in breeds we do not have age specific templates. Some players may choose to keep their Mauvian in a kitten-esque stage for their whole life, and others may choose to have a kitten they want to eventually grow up. ICly this is fine, but it is not presently an option to purchase Alt-Powered art of Mauvian characters so we ask players to be aware of that before questing a younger Mauvian!

What time do the schools of Destiny City start the school day and let out each day? The answer depends on which school you mean! Universities and colleges run on a very different schedule than the grade schools. We have left the specific time for most schools vague, as when they were originally introduced there were no times included and players may have handwaved things a bit. To prevent any contradictions, we have not set a specific schedule for the schools and instead say that the individual schools may run on a slightly different schedule from each other, but the earliest one would start at 7:00 and the latest one would get out by 3:00! The exception to this is Romano’s, which has a schedule outlined here!

In a plot submitted to the mule, it was replied that: The Space Cauldron We have one small concern; some Negaverse agents (and likely higher ups, such as GQs and Metallia) would be aware that the agent is deceased; to ensure that your plot runs smoothly, would you be able to encourage any Negaverse participants to avoid reaching out to anyone who might report or inquire about the agent? Just so the event doesn't draw the attention of anyone who might know the agent is dead until it is too late to stop it! You are free to run this plot whenever you like! You are free to run in while the meta is running if you like; we intend for it to run for several more weeks if that helps in planning. The agent in question for that plot had died in the presence of exactly one person, who wasn't a member of chaos. There were no members of Chaos in the Plane of Tartaros where the death blow was delivered. There was no witnessable reason for the GQs or Metallia to have a confirmation of death- it begs the question, then, how do they know? The mechanism of that knowing has a lot of plot applicability across the shop. And once they know, then as answered on May 15, 2015, the rosters are updated within 48 hours of service transfers. So every good soldier in the pseudo-military would know that the agent was no longer and agent. Good soldiers, good commanders, and all the SpecOps in general, would believably make it a habit to check the rosters at every update to see who's new and who's glue. This brings up several questions about plot sensitivity. By what mechanism is it know that any agent who dies, regardless of method or witnessability, is dead? How is it marked on the rosters? On the Database, such agents are marked out with the strike code by the mods- is this the same for the rosters? How does this interact with marking agents who become Youma? And what about this all-knowing mechanism in regard to purifications? This last question is especially curious, since if it is related to whether Metallia herself feels her power coursing through the agent in question or not, and tells the sovereigns, then no purified agent ever is a secret, which retcons a great many plots already existing where purifications have been revelations between agents and their former colleagues. Similarly, it would make the SpecOps job more one of just waiting for the go ahead of hunt for a specific agent of known name, rather than just not knowing what happened- dead or purified becomes the only question and there is no MIA. Because this was posted in the MQ&A we can only assume you wanted a public answer; we will try to avoid spoiling any details of the plot you submitted in the event it hasn’t yet been run, however we will need to reference the plot and events related to it to accurately answer this question.
This plot was submitted in January 2016 and involved heavy reference to a deceased character. The player of this character posted a News Bulletin informing the shop that the character was deceased at the end of 2014. Anything posted in the News Bulletin is IC knowledge that anyone can play with; more information and suggestions on what to post here can be found in the first post of the thread. Though the original post has since been deleted, we have no records that this information was not supposed to be IC knowledge, nor does the rest of the player base that was invited to know that information and play with it. Our answer in response to your PM was based on what was at one time intended to be public knowledge ICly, as presented by the player of the deceased character. The NPCs of the Negaverse have never ICly referenced this character, nor do we ever intend for them to, however if other characters were given permission to have this information or were referencing IC knowledge based on the original News Flash post (or player permission), there is a risk that it would have been reported to them and this could have caused a significant hole in your plot. We mentioned this as a concern for your plot only so that you could ensure everyone was playing with the same IC information and wouldn’t compromise your plot by using what was, at one point in time, information the player base was invited to have. If you would like an expanded answer on our response to your specific plot, please PM us and we will be happy to explain our answer in more detail.
In ordinary circumstances, the Negaverse does not have information on who is deceased. Many agents who do not check in after a time are simply considered missing. There is only one character in the database that has their information struck out and to our knowledge, this was done years ago at the time an IC News Flash was announced related to the character’s status. The database has had this name struck out for a significant amount of time and has not been mentioned by the player’s character; if they no longer wish for this to be IC knowledge, the shop will be happy to remove the strike upon their request.
Missing agents are not marked on the roster or otherwise noted in the database in any capacity. General Sovereigns may have a hidden file accessible only to them to note a lack of communication with them, but this is not something the shop will ever explore or push onto a player unless they desire plots to come of it. If an agent youmafies, they would still have a file; they may no longer have the duties of an agent but the youma may still choose to be affiliated with the Branch they served in and assist in missions where they can. The Branch Roster is updated within 48 hours of an agent submitting a transfer; this means they must apply paperwork to do so. This only happens when ICly the character wants to be moved to another roster; if a transfer is not submitted, the character is not removed and there would be no indication that anything has changed.
While Metallia may feel when a large number of agents die at one time, she cannot magically detect when any specific agent dies or purifies; there is no threat of any information or plots being retconned. This information can only be uncovered if a player wants it to be, either by releasing it through roleplay or allowing people to handwave knowledge of it. Posting an invitation for characters to become aware of this information in the News Flash thread is considered an IC reveal as, it is designed to announce battles, events and goings-on that you can reference in your roleplays.A public answer was wanted, yes, and thank you for the clarification on the IC/OOC ramifications of the News Bulletin function~

Youma can't be naturally inorganic / mechanical; does this mean they can only be 'animal'-based, or could they be crystalline/primarily displaying traits of non-animals?
Youma should take most of their design inspiration from plants or animals, however we will work with a player who wants to include crystals in their design. The Rift is covered in Chaos crystals and some of these crystals have even been used to facilitate the merging of youma and humans. While crystals would be considered ‘natural’ and would be permitted in youma designs, this is more than an aesthetic for the half-youma or youma and could be weaponized or affect their durability ICly as well, so we would need to discuss the youma’s abilities before we could officially approve crystalline aspects. Small, decorative crystals may appear without much issue, but for youma with mostly crystalline limbs or crystallized portions of their body, this would probably be considered one of their physical abilities and would need to be reflected in their powered write up.
We will have an announcement with more in depth information about this coming in the near future, but youma should not naturally look like their design was based on a manmade creation. A ‘natural’ youma would not have pieces of refined metal, technological aspects, or mechanical aspects, but if it is something you can find naturally occurring in the wild it can likely appear on your youma. Rocks, crystals, wood, or bone are all things that could realistically appear on a youma. Youma are incredibly unique character types and because of the extreme vastness of possibilities we require players to PM us to discuss what they want so we can work with them (specifically because we also have to consider not only aesthetics, but how that works with their abilities and IC battle state).
For some ideas on what may be acceptable and unacceptable: a player could quest for a youma that looked like a tree and had skin like bark, but a player could not quest for a youma that looked like a tree and had rotating saw blades on their arms. Or, a player may quest for a humanoid youma with crystal limbs, but they could not quest for a crystal youma with electric drills for hands. Nothing on the youma should look manmade unless they have submitted a plot to the mule and received approval to run it! For example, the Negaverse may provide a half-youma who is missing an arm a prosthetic limb or cyborg arm to replace it, though this would occur through plot and would not be seen on a youma who has not been deliberately modified. If you have a specific design you would like for a youma or half youma, please PM us and we are happy to work with you! When in doubt though, it is safest to assume that youma will almost always have a plant or animal design, but they can also be based off of unprocessed, raw materials found in nature.

Could Silver Millennium (or prior)-era Knights have had weapons that could be used for battle, i.e. legitimately dangerous weapons?
Yes; there is a lot more freedom in Silver Millennium (or prior) Knight weapons than there is in present day, however we ask that if players are planning on altering their weapon from its current incarnation (such as by severely increasing lethality or magical ability), please PM the mule so we can discuss it and sign off on it!
As a general rule though, weapons in the past can be more lethal than their current incarnations because circumstances for taking on a name were different. In the past, Knights were often trained to wield weapons, either in the academy or with their mentor, so they would have been better equipped to wield more advanced or dangerous weapons. In present day, Knights receive no training upon awakening, so do not have the years of training they would have ordinarily had before taking on the title of Page as they would have in the past, so their weapons are significantly less dangerous (and stay less dangerous to help balance them with the other factions in terms of OOC mechanics).

What makes a Wonder a Wonder? I can understand if a wonder is temple or historical or mythical place. I have chosen a Crater on Mercury for a Knight, but I am confused how that would be a Wonder, and how I would use it.
A wonder is technically described as any landmark or feature that holds importance of any kind. You are free to customize the wonder however you like, though! Though the namesake is a crater, you could design the wonder to be a castle or other important feature, or say that the area has some magic or historical lore. You do not have to play that the crater is just a crater!
Wonders house pieces of the Code; Code pieces are stored in these landmarks because they are important to the people of the area and would have probably already been under some protection. Once the Code piece is hidden at a Wonder, it grants a special protector (the Knight of the Wonder) special powers to protect both the location and the Code Piece within.
You can customize the lore of your wonder to come up with a story for why that area would be important or worth protecting; if you have any questions or want help working out a plot, please feel free to PM the mule with questions or ideas and we can work with you!

Is there any reason that token or growing claims submitted after a grab bag claim get done before the grab bag claim? There are some reasons why this could happen, but each situation is unique and might have completely different circumstances. Typically an artist will go down their list in the chronologically order they claimed the art in but if you would like an update on art, the best thing to do is to contact your artist!
Some common reasons why a token or growth claim submitted after a grab bag claim get finished first art:
Some artists work at different paces or have different waitlist lengths. An artist who accepts a grab bag claim but has five pieces of owed art will probably not finish as quickly as an artist who has nothing on their list and agreed to do the growth posted after it. Grab bag claims can take longer to claim that directly approaching an artist; sometimes artists pass on grab bag claims because they already have lists or want to work down their list before accepting new art. This means it takes longer for a player to be put on a work list. Some artists are more receptive to being contacted directly to discuss art. Selecting a grab bag does not guarantee that any artist will sign up for the art; it simply makes it known to the artists that you need art and if anyone is available they can select it. A player earlier in the list may take longer to respond to PMs/approve WIPs than the player after them. If the artist is waiting on the first player to respond and starts the second piece of art, it is possible that they might finish the second piece of art before the first player even approves a WIP. If a player wants a collaboration, sometimes one artist’s list is a different length than another, which means part of the collaboration might be finished on one list but not the other. If the artist who does the first portion of the collaboration passes it on to the next and begins to do the next piece on their art, it is possible that they might finish the second piece of art before the second artist is even able to begin their portion. Sometimes things simply get lost though, so if you feel like you have been waiting for too long, please contact your artist for information!

I'd like to get some clarification for the last name rule if we could~
What happens if the last name is in use by someone that is no longer part of the community or is not reachable because they no longer get on gaia? Is there an approximate time frame where, assuming the party has made an attempt to reach out to the player with the last name they hope to use, enough time has passed to warrant use of the name without permission?
Say you get permission for a singular character to have a last name and then later down the road decide to get a family member for said character, because they are family of that character do you have to go through the permission requests once again or is the fact that they're family of your already existing character count?
If you were the originator of a last name and have given permission to other players to have the last name are you required to request permission from them if you chose to get another character with said last name, related or otherwise, when you had the name 'first'?
If you cannot get permission to use the last name, you cannot use it, sorry! There is no ‘minimum time frame’ that a player has to respond before the last name becomes free to use. Some players may be more comfortable allowing others to use the last name if it is meant for only one person, so if you think there is a possibility that you might wind up questing for family or multiple characters with that last name, please include this information when you reach out to the player. While we understand that sometimes you cannot anticipate if you will quest for other characters, or if they are going to get married or have children that would then take on that last name, if you know that it is a possibility it would help to disclose that. But, please remember that the other player is granting you a courtesy to use the last name they have already claimed, so you should always ask.
The player who originally claimed the last name has the rights to use it; they do not need permission from players they shared it with to use it for their own quests. The only instances where multiple permissions must be acquired is in the case of a few last names that were accidentally approved while the surname was already claimed, however we will speak with players questing these last names when those situations arise.

While I understand that it's courteous to always ask or that they are being courteous in allowing the use of a last name, the wording of the answer to my second question does not clarify if it is a requirement or not.
"You should always ask." Should implies that it is not required. Can we get a definite yes or no please?
We have decided that it is now mandatory that you always ask the original player in every instance that you wish to use the last name they have already put into play.

When was that rule put into effect as a frame of reference? How does this effect those who were not asked for permission? Of 'common' last names IE Smith, Doe, Williams etc?' How common must a last name be to be considered common?
We do not know exactly when this rule was implemented, however it is not a new rule and has been in place for at least six years. This rule is publicly posted in the questing handbook in the civilian creation section, and has been there for some time.
Staff has apologized for the instances where last names that were in use were brought into play by people who did not gain permission; unfortunately, there have been periods of time where the master character list wasn’t updated to reflect when a quest character was acquired at the time of stamping a new character, or multiple quest characters are stamped with the last name and then, when acquired, we failed to realize the latter quests did not change their name. After player complaints on the matter, we put more effort into paying attention to these situations.
Unfortunately, in instances where the character has been in play for some time and major retcon of a last name would be extremely problematic for players who were unaware of the overlap, we can only ask for forgiveness from the players who originally claimed the name. We have made mistakes in this department in the past and have since been more attentive to ensure this doesn’t happen again, but we have not asked or forced anyone to change their last name if the mistake wasn’t caught early on.
There are no ‘common’ last names that are public domain or free to use; any last name that has already been claimed requires permission to be used.

Just a follow-up thought on the above topic. I don't play many characters, and the last name issue has never been of concern to me, but I do play a sideswapped character. Although he currently uses the name Lazarus Klein, my character previously also was named Elijah Bell, and I'd hate to see someone get in trouble for not reaching out to me to ask to use it because they didn't see it on the master list. Would it be possible for the master list to be updated for sideswapped characters to also include their prior names, so that future questers don't accidentally use someone else's last name?
I personally don't mind last name overlap for my characters, but I'd hate to see people get mixed up over last names (or have the overlap get noticed too late by GMs) because that information wasn't on the master list. heart
We can look into this and try to find some way to add this information so there is not accidental overlap!

There have been some instances of 'timelessness' among official art stages in the shop, and I have a question pertaining to the breadth of that timelessness.
It's been established that, when receiving a stage-up, a player can opt to roll a lateral stage change into the art so long as the plot is approved - even if the plot is not yet completed. For example, a super senshi going eternal can also include transcendence markings in her art despite the fact that the transcendence plot is not complete, only approved. A useful move, as it allows people to circumvent the expense of purchasing alt art (which has not yet reached the culture of the shop as a staple commodity).
My question pertains to the breadth of allowable 'future' changes to the art, as many players often use the same stage art for many months (or even years) without alt art to reflect current changes. Lateral stage moves are fairly plot-intensive, and often reflect large changes to the appearance, so my questions are targeted toward more benign changes. More specifically, I'm looking at instances where people have historically purchased alt art to reflect straightforward changes like hair cuts or growth, or tattoos.
In light of the above, is it therefore possible to include in stage-up art hair length changes to reflect future growth? Is it possible to remove limbs from a character in lieu of a plot that will incur such damage? Can scars and tattoos be reflected on art prior to their IC acquisition? If all these details are allowable as present changes made for future intention on stage-up art, then what are unallowable changes?
One of the reasons we sometimes allow characters to get aspects of their art that have not yet been ICly earned because their upgrade plot either initiates or conclude the plot that reflects that change. For example, it is fairly common for players to combine a growth plot with something else, such as a transcendence plot, or a plot to acquire a personal item. In these instances, the plot is approved and the player acknowledges that they intend to pursue these plots, often immediately after the point where their character ICly grows and is able to pursue these plots.
We allow these major changes to appear on art because it would be unfair to require a player to ICly grow to third stage with their normal art before they can submit to get alt art of the character, especially if the growth plot also includes transcending. While there isn’t a specific time limit for the ‘breadth of allowable future changes to art’ here, when we approve these things to appear on art when the plot isn’t quite yet complete, it is under the impression that the player intends to set out the completion of these plots in the immediate or very near future—not several months or years down the line. Sometimes things come up which prevent the player from initiating or completing the necessary roleplays to ICly justify the art, but the intention should be to get art that reflects your characters as they are now, or as they will be.
Often the art is not dropped ICly until these plots are completed (though some artists and players don’t mind if the art is dropped OOCly beforehand).
To answer your question, it strongly depends on how far in the future you are trying to depict your character; if the plots are meant to happen immediately afterwards or within the few weeks after the art is acquired, it would be more likely that they could appear, but you should not be requesting art that reflects your characters as they are meant to be months down the line. In many instances, plots change, and you may be stuck with art that does not reflect that path you want your character to follow if you try to reflect who they are months down the line, before the developments or plots happen.
To be succinct, for these things to appear on art, it should be because you plan to pursue them immediately (or in the very near future) after acquiring the art. If you do not intend to do so, you should save the changes for alt art that reflects the changes as they are occurring or after they have happened.
