Lucind turned around but didn't walk over to that pale version of Vahn. Instead, she just fixed his eyes, looking as if nothing she saw here touched her in any way.

"He is playing. So...you're allowed to be the guard here now?"

She shot a quick glance back over her shoulder.

"Why's he scared?"

Pale blue lips parted into a grin, even swayed forward on his heels, before moving back slightly; always rocking back and forth in that fashion.

"I don't have a proper name, I suppose you could call whatever you liked."

The grin turned into a smile as eyes widened. "Although I know both your names."

Cold air began to permeate from where he stood, even as spiderwebbing strands of ice shot out and went past the girls, jutting straight into the midst of the battlefield.

"Allowed? No. I don't need permission."

Everything around them slowly began to become frozen, even the blood creating as shining crimson landscape.

"Triggered by extreme stress.. that was the word, wasn't it? Keyword.. right, right.. reflecting the individuals self image, as reflected by the subconscious. Increased mental deterioration as the id and superego collide within the mental landscape."

He began walking up a set of tiered frozen steps that seemed to come at his mere whim. "Inevitably the subjects inner self comes to the fore-- the original host personality is rejected from the body and the dominant personality gains full control."

Falling into an incy throne that decorated the top of his stairway, he cocked his head to the side. "You see, I'm the King now. I don't serve anyone weaker than me let alone more pathetic. If it wasn't for that bit of heaven I tasted a while back..." Images of Chaos nearly swalloing Vahn fluttered through. "..I'd never have gotten that 'oompth' I needed to really do something."

"Nice lesson," Lucind simply commented.

"So you also know perfectly well what position someone reigned by his Id has in society, what effects his action can have...or always have.

You don't think we're gonna let him wake up in this state, do you?"

While talking, the Half-Siren's mental projection extended her invisible aura, like antennas, trying to reach the other Vahn on the horse, carefully, like you approached a scared child when you want to comfort it.

This was, so to say, the Sirens' real world, and only here their full psionic potential unfolded. Words and will could be as powerful as vocal attacks and the use of a weapon in reality - all depending on the strength of the victim or the patient, of course.

It was as though Owle's body exploded, the mental energy trapped within going haywire, pulsing through every piece of flesh to burst into the outside world.

Owle was unharmed as the snakes leapt from her form, their golden glow obscuring her body, their hissing obscuring her words. Nearer to where Owle must be, nothing could be distinguished but golden light...it was only later that their bodies branched off, tracing violent patterns through the air. Their black eyes were fixated on the Other, their tongues dancing in anger. They were anything but calm, relaxed...and there were a lot of them.

"He is not pathetic."

As if a hundred hissing voices had said it at once. From amidst the tumultous storm of snakes Owle stepped out, starting up the steps toward the Other.

"I want to rip him to shreds."

This to Lucind, as though Owle were daring the other woman to impede her progress toward that goal.

At the same time, though, the core of snakes she had left behind were shooting off over the battlefield, racing desperately against the growing ice, slithering through the air to try and prevent it from reaching Vahn. With their bodies they would try and block the cold, with their lives they would try to keep the ice at bay. Among them walked another Owle, this one partially hidden amidst the chaos of the snakes and the frozen battlefield.

She seemed to hold none of the anger of the avatar approaching the Other. She wasn't calm by any means, but she was taking her cue from Lucind...moving slowly, carefully, looking unthreatening. She needed to talk to Vahn.

Much as she longed to simply rip him from his horse and drag him to her, she couldn't help but see the wisdom in Lucind's more...subtle approach.

((Basically, two Owles, 156 snakes. One Owle is alone, heading towards the Other, looking like she wants to cause him a lotta pain. Owle2 is surrounded by the snakes, heading toward the Vahn on horseback. Some of her snakes are trying to slow down the ice in whatever way they can, the others just seem to be guarding Owle2.))

"Chaaaa-- but you ladies aren't going to make that easy for me, are you?"

Grinning, he raised a hand and pressed it to his forehead, fingers running a bit through his hair as he chortled.

"Jeez, I mean honestly... what difference would it make? This world barely remembers the body and face, you'll all die way before I start to actually age and begin to detioriate. This is going to happen at some point.

It just so happens that its gonna be now."

Staring down from his iced over throne, the Other smiled languidly. "I mean honestly... how many more times does my raggedy a** 'master' have to lose and come near death for someone to get up and do something about it! I'm the one that should be out there! I'm the one that remains a Drakkar and Murmillion at heart!"

Still not moving, only Lucind's eyes followed the Other and nothing happening around made her lose her neutral facial expression.

Nevertheless, Owle, that is, both her forms, would feel a mental nudge: not reproachful, yet determined, telling Owle to pull herself together.

"I'm not saying you don't belong in here. However, it can't be ignored that old memories, repressed thoughts, crushed hopes and an intense, almost twisted sense of duty fed you during all those years...centuries and gave you a new role.

Maybe this is just a logical development. Cause and effect.
But it has to be seen if you really can't be led back into your usual place to resume your original position.

If there isn't a way and you're just growing stronger - I'll kill this man."

From the Owle moving through the battlefield, Lucind would actually get a response in words, meant to reach her ears alone.

I'm fine. I'm sorry that I left the snakes over there near you, but I don't think they'll hurt you.

This probably wouldn't make that much sense to Lucind, since the only snakes visible were the ones moving away from the Siren, with the Owle on the battlefield.

Things might become clearer as the Owle on the steps turned to Lucind, pausing for a moment to glare at her. For a moment the skin of Owle's arms seemed to writh and bubble; a flash of gold here, a black eye there, a hint of sharp fangs...Unlike before, when the snakes had seemed to simply pass through Owle into the outside world, these seemed to consume the Owle-shape as they were given life.

No.

Why not?

The battlefield Owle struggled to think of a reason, one that the other Owle would accept. 'Because she's helping' wasn't good enough, that meant nothing. 'Because it's wrong to attack someone who saved you' didn't mean a damn thing either.

She had faith in us.

It was something warm, something that spoke of a connection deeper than mere circumstance. It was something they could feel.

The Owle on the steps turned away from Lucind, her features returning to normal.

"If there isn't a way and you're just growing stronger - I'll kill this man."

"I won't let that happen."

A simple statement of fact, as the Owle on the steps resumed her climb towards the Other. What she would do once she got there, well...she'd be waiting for a reaction, first.

In the meantime, the Owle on the battlefield breathed a sigh of relief, and continued on her way toward Vahn, the snakes around her guarding her from any damage the ice or the fighting men tried to do her. Once she reached the Vahn she thought she knew, if he wasn't trying to run away from her or anything, she would simply try to get his attention.

"Hey. We need to talk."

"You have absolutely no idea, do you?"

Laughter echoed out from where the Other sat, lounging precariously along his throne as he stared down at the two, even while Owle continued climbing the stairs.

"You honestly believe him to be the "real" Vahn, and immediately dismiss me as if I was nothing. But how do you what is real and what is fake? Were you there hundreds of years ago? Were you watching as 'he' killed his own mother?"

He waved his left hand outward, causing thick spikes of ice to extended from the steps in front of Owle.

"This is as far you ladies can come. From here on in is my world. You can't enter."

As Owle approached, the 14 year-old reared up on his steed, grabbing tight hold of the reigns and staring in shock at the woman that appeared. "This is no place for a woman such as yourself!"

It was almost pitiful to see someone so young, bloodstained and dressed for war.. perhaps so much more he could have done with his life.. another direction taken...

If her human side had been 'on top' at the moment, Lucind surely had countered with some sarcastic comment, mocking his drive for personal prestige. So she just went on:

"This isn't about 'real' or 'fake'. You, too, have a right to be here. But it's my job to bring a bit balance into this mess."

Mentioning Vahn's mother made her recall what the man had told her about his bloodline...but also those scenes the boy Ezekiel had shared with her: the slain woman, Draeger's woman, the 'witch' Emperor Fah had used for his purpose... But still Lucind only had a vague idea how everything had led to giving Vahn's Id, the side of the persona which represented pure instinct, inherited 'knowledge' of the ages, a life of its own.

However, the Half-Siren was pretty sure her methods had given the Other a chance to jump into action, thus she now intended to cancel the effects, especially that of her vocal work - which was indeed easy.
Right after her reply to the Other, she hummed a chord, the 'key' which ended the melody's ban. Still, the effect usually took a few minutes to wear off.

Thus she sent invisible waves of her psionic willpower throughout Vahn's mind which mainly had the aim to work against the ice and thus the Other's influence, in a way of numbing him just like she had done with Vahn.
And reaching the man's Ego, so to speak, to give it the possibility to resume its work as a mediator between the other two instances: by bringing in memories of Sunstrike, no special memories, merely the image of him, she hoped to deliver a push strong enough for Vahn to gain back power over himself...even if it only was meant to be temporary.

The waves Lucind sent weren't aggressive at the beginning, yet impossible to ignore. And depending on the Other's resistance she would slowly increase the pressure.

"Both of you are real, and divided you both are false. Foolish ones."

This from the Owle on the steps, who barely spared a glance to the spikes Vahn's Other had created.

"You can't stop me."

Wings that hadn't been there before emerged from her back, great gray ones that seemed made of feathers forged from steel. This Owle quickly became airborn, continuing her ascent towards the Other.

In the meanwhile, the other Owle faced down a 14-year old Vahn, who in her eyes looked cute covered in blood. She accepted the frame he had given her, that of his memories of his childhood, and chose to act within the dream rather than try and break him out of it.

"I'm no mere woman," she answered the boy, gesturing to the snakes around her. "I've come to warn you; have you not seen the ice creeping along the battlefield, destroying friend and foe alike?"

"I've been finally given the ability to strike back. And I will use it."

Even if he was being forced to divide his attention nearly threeways, it was still, as he had said "his" world.

Remaining lounged where he was, the ground around Lucind erupted into jabbing shards of ice, which aimed to encase and restrict her movement as well as her body.

"Think of me as his better half. His rage, his pride, his selfish ways, they give me form and substance!" Yellowed eyes widened, even as the blackness surrounding them seemed to bleed out a bit. "His anger only serves to feed me--- I did not weave myself out of nothing! I am Vahn!"

He finally began rising, even as Owle came swooping towards him. "All that is his... is rightfully mine! And mine... it will be."

He sweeped down with his left arm, bringing down what appeared to be a giant column of frozen ice along with it, to smash into Owle.

Shaking his head rufeslly, the boy gripped the reigns of his horse only harder, trying to keep the animal still. "No-- the ice is here to help. It always come to me when I need it!"

Owle, let's bring those two together...he needs to pull himself together...literally..

Right after she sent that message to the other woman, ice shards shot up all around her - and directly dissolved into myriads of tiny droplets which swirled around the Half-Siren's body for a moment and then vanished.

The cocoon Lucind had woven around herself before entering Vahn's mind to better blend with the surrounding also worked as a defense system, and it was up to her - and her inner strength - how intense this shield was. If she needed to, should could even hide in it completely, just like she had done in Maximos', no, The Destroyer's mind.

At the moment however, it only became visible when the Half-Siren fought back the ice: it was transparent, shimmering like water and all things behind it looked blurred. It usually manifested itself in waves erupting from Lucind's body. The same happened when the ice tried to stop her - only that the blurry wave started to fray and built tendrils which wound themselves forward in all directions, like searching tentacles...or flames.

They only lasted a few seconds before they were sucked back into Lucind's body and the cocoon became invisible once more.
Only another Siren would've directly sensed, even before blocking the attack, that this cocoon had been modified...just like Lucind's clan leader and her aunt had felt and seen it back on that day of the attack on Latent, when Vahn and Lucind had been taken to Yaits Hospital, when the other Sirens had tried to bring her back to life...

Owle wouldn't sense anything strange or different since she had never worked together with a Siren before.

But maybe the Other would remember...recognize the new shape of Lucind's cocoon.

Yet, Lucind herself didn't think about it right then, her defensive reaction was instinctively and costed only little strength.

Can you fix him?

This question was directed at Owle again, only more to the Owle right in front of her - while Lucind didn't wait and intensified her effort to wake Vahn up, in a figurative way, to encourage him to stand up: amber eyes narrowed slightly and got clouded, otherwise she still didn't move.

Without holding back this time, she sent a new psionic wave throughout Vahn's mind, even reaching out for his soul this time, nudging it's outer 'wall'.

Vahn...come back. Let's find a way to solve this mess, together.

We're waiting for you... -He- is waiting for you.

More images of Sunstrike flooded the man's inner world.

Stop allowing this Other here to grow stronger with your negative emotions.

Stop hiding.

You've got to face yourself.

Vahn...!

I'll try, the Owle on the battlefield sent back to Lucind's first request. She was staring up at Vahn and sighing to herself. So much for doing this the easy way...

So she changed tactics, and jumped upward to land, seated behind Vahn on his horse. In the physical world she could never have done such a thing, even with the aid of her feeble wings. But this was the astral, this was her place of power, and here, she got to be a badass for a change.

She clasped her arms around Vahn's waist, leaning her head against his back...just as she had when he'd taken her on board his bike. Hoping, just hoping, it would dredge up some memory.

"You selfish little brat."

Not exactly words of encouragement, but Owle was doing what she could. "How can you just hide here, playing, while your loved ones need you? What do you think is going to happen to me if you wake up like this, with him in control? What do you think is going to happen to..." She swallowed, closing her eyes. It hurt so very much to say this, to admit that someone else held a higher place in Vahn's heart than she did, and to use that to encourage him. "...Sun, if you just stay here? He's lost his memory, Vahn, do you know how empty that feels? No one to love you...nothing to live for...no friends, no family, no home. It's an aimless, purposeless existence I wouldn't wish on anyone. But you could find him...you could lead him home. No one wants you to just fade away here, least of all he and I."

Even while she spoke, she was trying to do as Lucind asked her...using her snakes to lead the horse in the direction the Other was in. They would n** at the horse's heels to get it moving, and rise up in its face whenever it went in the wrong direction, leaving it only one way to move: the way Owle wanted it to go.

In the meanwhile, the Owle flying towards the Other burst. One moment it was Owle, the next it was an explosion of golden snakes, falling down from the sky towards the Other. The column of ice was not dodged completely; it caught 10 of the 100 snakes who were not fast enough to move out of the way, eventually crushing them beneath it when it landed. They screamed as they died, and Owle got a slight headache, but the rest of the snakes seemed unaffected.

Fix him? the ninety snakes that were now swarming towards the Other echoed to Lucind, and only to Lucind. Like trying to perform surgery with a hacksaw. Just what do you think fixing him is? We don't know...that's why we want him to fix himself, as we did.

They noticed the shape of Lucind's shield, and approved. Owle, too preoccupied with Vahn, did not.

These snakes would land, and slither swiftly towards the Other, winding their way around him if they could reach him. They were not hurting him, no...their touch would feel almost like a lover's caress.

"But you are still only half," the snakes taunted him, still speaking in unison despite no longer being united. "Half a man, half a Vahn, without the other to make you whole.

Nothing means anything unless you are whole, you will always be half-empty, unfulfilled."

The Other might be able to tell that they were made out of much the same stuff he was woven from. The darker emotions, Owle's anger, her greed, and, at the moment...her lust. If they were allowed to, they would seek to continue winding their way upward...and under his clothing if at all possible.
