I have a Christian, very devout, friend who knows about me and my other friends' love of yaoi. She finds it funny, though she doesn't believe in it. She isn't homophobic or anything- we have a gay guy in our group, and nobody could hate him.
The only thing is that, when we talk about actual homosexuals, she says that her religion forgives them. Not accepts, forgives. That's one of the things we fight about.

That what I don't get. Where religions accept things, yet not forgive them. Shouldn't acceptance and forgiveness go hand in hand? One can't accept without forgiveness nor can they forgive without acceptance. Sad thing is, it actually all true. I agree with her.

I haven't actually experinced any form of abuse towards being a yaoi fangirl. That's mostly because I know better not to talk about it to people who I know will be offended. If I do try to reel people in, for selfish reasons, I attempt to do it in the most calm manner possible...then when they've been hooked THAT'S when you're allowed to go: ZOMG TEH SEX <3
Or something :'D
For all the people who have stood up against homophobics, I admire you to the max.

fontelos2 wow i read that and it is true XD I agree with most of it! The only thing I am really guilty of is writing pairings just because they're hot. Prime example? NejiGaara, from Naruto. There's no reason or evidence for it, but I love it anyways.

Here is the thing I have a problem with though, if there is let's say a Sora X Riku thread up, if you hate the pairing don't go there!
If you are going to fight for your reason against that it is great but I want a REAL reason, not something like this, (Excuse the fact I suck at typing like a young fan girl)
"OMG no way he is for is gay 4 Riku."
That isn't a reason, but I digress. If they give a reason I let them be personally, because at least that are trying to make a point which i have to give them credit for that.

I hate uber fangirls and homophobics. By uber fangirls I mean the people who will threaten you if you don't like their coupling, even after you gave a good, detailed and non offending reason for it. I wanna kick em in the face. Everything witten in that link was true. So sad, but true.

Well, that's something sooo cruel! D:
People have the right to the opinions, of course but come on! Remember the manners! I have had some negative comments about my signature here, like "it's so cruel to think about that about Axel and Roxas" and "your sig sucks, yaoi's not good at all" but so what? They just said their opinions and I'm okay with that. It's not bad thing to like things that the others hate. That's just natural!
Seriously! Ugh.

You put the warnings, and they ignore them.
I always see the "OMG, they're not GAYZZZ!!!111one" comments, and then they spout on about how I'm going to hell. They usually have worse grammer than they say we do.
Or you see some comments like: "This is not yaoi. I am not one of those crazy fangirls who slash EVERYONE together." (me: stare )
I don't slash everyone together. neutral Yes, sometimes I read crack pairings, who doesn't? xD For the most part though, I tend to stick to pairings that make sence.
I don't see what the big deal is. Riku x Namine is not canon, however there are people who put them together. You don't see them getting flamed with comments like: "OMG, Namine dozn't luv Riku, she luvz Roxas!!!111one"
Worst one by far: "There not gayz, cuz I'm Riku's wife, so I shud no."
Get. A. Life.

I love how this has become a rant thread. l3
Frankly, the best thing to do in public is say nothing about yaoi unless asked about it. Knowing ur audience is a good idea, too. I realize on the net this is nearly impossible except for the know ur audience crap, but u have to ignore the other stuff and not take it personally, gals--and guys. It's the same as liking anrtho characters. Just cuz u like cat ears on someone doesn't make u a furry. Just cuz u like yaoi doesn't make u psycho, similarly.
Besides, aren't the majority of the comments nice ones? (The ones from the yaoi fangirls, I mean.) Or am i being unbelievably naive? confused question

But to reply to the main topic, people are like that. Say " I like what I like and there's nothing you can do about it."
