Lol @ Tenma. Too many places? Too lost? More like, too lazy.

No, Ed. He's right. A lot of people tell me how damned confusing the guild is just because of how many places there are and how much there is to read...

I'm sorry.

Would you prefer some one-sentence descriptions?

Barthavos: There is a lot of sand here.

Latent: Many houses here. Maybe some water.

As for the navigating issue, Ben's working on updating the world compass linking guide, and I've been trying to get some one to do a proper map.

And in fact if you or anyone can do better, then by all means, do so.

Because I sure as hell didn't write all that up for me to jerk all over.

I made them to give life to places and make them more than just one building or place.

Ok, Ed? I do very much appreciate everything you've done in creating a very wonderful world and detail to every location we have here. I really do, it's ******** amazing. But dude, it IS like a bloody maze. I STILL get lost when looking for some thread. ME. I own the damned place and I get lost sometimes. Imagine how someone who's used to guilds with 5-10 RP threads that are all in one subforum feels when they show up here and we have 20+ with 5 forums for roleplaying ALONE. It is confusing. We need to find a way to make it somehow less complicated... if only Gaia allowed Sub-sub forums, that'd work...

Nobody is complaining about the threads themselves, just the navigation of said threads.

Truthfully I never found navigation all that hard, sure maybe once and a while I'll click the wrong link, but I hit the back button and go to where I wanted to go.

As long as you know what you're looking for then navigation is fairly simple, even if you don't know where everything is. And when in doubt ask around.

Yes but the problem is, the new members do not know what they're looking for, and if they do ask, they either get pointedly ignored and talked over... or simply talked down to.

A few people are good about helping people, but the guild on a whole fails when it comes to making nice.

So the problem isn't so much navigation since anyone new wouldn't know what each thread is to begin with but how people treat them when they ask questions.

What we want, is for new comers not be lost and not to be made unwelcome.

Hell, we don't want our current members being made to feel unwelcome. x_X;;

New people come in, instinctively they do not know the lay out. Demanding for new people not be lost upon entering into a new guild is absurd.

Focus on the battles that are possible. Such as seeing to it that new people are welcome.

I know that I'm an a** hole; but then I'm a firm believer in learning by trial and error. And no one is going to improve unless errors are pointed out. Sure this doesn't mean that people have the right to out right flame someone for a stupid mistake; but then this is a guild built around a fighting arena. A thick skin is usually desired for such an environment.

I, personally, feel that the OOC board should be the main board, that way people can come in, meet the members, see what we're all about and ask questions. Also have the map on the main page too, so they can look and see where everything is and have links to them. They way they don't have to find the OOC and jump STRAIGHT into RPing in a new, HUGE environment. They can get comfortable first, maybe find someone who can show them around.

Now a map, an actual map with locations marked instead of a thumb sketch, though the sketch worked for the guild before the layout of the guild has changed from then, and there are quite a few more threads than before. That would make the guild navigation alot easier for anybody, not just the lazy kids. You'd know what was where in relation to everything else.

I don't know about the whole welcoming deal, but most people intent on role playing would get over the unique brand of humor present in Leviathan.

Cause there are a few people that have come in since i got here that were here a day and when i next saw them fit in like they'd been there forever.

This guild is always a little better to come into with friends, or a friend at least to show them the ropes, or soften the impact of entrance a little.

Lol, the real problem is here the fact that we have literally fourty two environments for people to roleplay in.

In a guild without that many active members.

Do we really need several towns in which the only thing that really happens is a full-scale invasion every few months?

There is no reason for people to make more places here for people to RP.

tenma> for the umpteenth time, we're looking for a cartographer/working on a map [sierra's doing things]. stop mentioning the map if you don't know a cartographer. i will personally sit down in ZA WARUDO and list the places in their reigon with links before the map is completed, if it keeps y'all from mentioning the map again. try again in a week if we still have no progress on it.

-checks- owait vahn did it already. so, i don't know what more you could want, without the pictures.

also, define thumb sketch.

nilly> trial by error, yes. take the bumps and stand up again.

enki>sub-sub forums? you and sierra are saying that people are having a hard time navigating the sub forums. why would you want to add another layer of insanity?

map on the main page without links is what i was thinking, but then what's the point? if not done correctly, it can be just a pretty picture with no context. i think that when we get this cartography and surveying done, we'll be fine.
