Roobarb Anyway, science fiction was started by people who loved science and wanted to imagine its future... is that such a terrible thing, to stick to science a bit?Genetics is a perfectly valid field of science, no? You tamper with DNA it gets all snarky and acts up all over the shop. That's why cloning's such an imprecise art. This was just an extension of that, in a sense. And if regenerating the human body isn't a big part of the future of science I don't know what is. Admit it, you just wanted the answer to be the Philosopher's Stone D:

The "complexity" is largely a myth constructed by people who find the idea uncomfortable and are looking for excuses for people not to do it. http://www.biotechnologyonline.gov.au/popups/img_scnt.cfmJust saying. wink

Actually, getting cloning to work can require a bunch of tweaking from one species to the next. Only one guy from South Korea was ever widely believed by the general scientific community to have successfully cloned human embryos. This was back in 2004, and was the first step in a procedure to produce human embryonic stem cells. He went on to become something of a national hero in South Korea. Unfortunately, it later turned out his research was fraudulent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hwang_Woo-Suk Needless to say, most South Koreans were not amused.

I would join in on the science-y discussions but I stopped doing science after GCSEs two years ago sweatdrop
This episode reminded me of spiderman 2 abit, with doctor octopus and his experiment going terribly wrong, killing his partner even, etc. etc.
I quite liked it! The odd gap in explaining stuff, but good. I thought the monster was the best so far in S3 (not the fact of HOW he became the monster, i thought that was stupid, just the physical apperance) Its had the most humor so far this series methinks....and I like that in a DW episode. As well as mindless explosions, those are always good too.

I really enjoyed this ep! Strong acting, good script! Very intrigued with trailer teasers on upcoming ep with Captain Jack. Hmmm... "We need a timelord." And here's Captain Jack. Any speculations?

Unexpected things pop up in the gene pool that aren't supposed to be there and before you know it your test subjects got a foot growing out of the side of its head O.o

Yes but it would be growing it very slowly, unless you had some way to speed up growth. And you wouldn't be going back and forth from foot on head to no foot on head like, for instance, some giant scorpion scientists were...

Smigg-the-Miserable And we finally get to meet Mr. Saxon! My theory (or possibly just blind hope) that he's actually The Master has only been reinforced by this week's episode. Thats what I've been thinking for ages!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! *Hits everyone on the head with a red shovel*

I feel I have to make a complaint on this....somebody said something about him changing in mass, but there was so much hollow space that there wasn't so much a difference....and yes, offering that explanation IS a little far fetched....but it was neat, offered a "just don't pay attention and everything will be fine" answer to what was happening, and was just plain COOL!!!! Just sit back and enjoy the ride....

Well, if that were true, the Doctor could have just stuck Lazarus with a big needle and deflated him like a balloon... mrgreen I'm finding that Martha's family doesn't annoy me as much as Rose's. Except for Martha's mom. God, did I want to throttle her. But her brother was kind of amusing, and Tish is kinda hot. If I was the Doctor, I'd have invited her to tag along, too...

I agree with you about her family...I really like her brother...He has a sense of humor! Her mum is annoying and jumping to conclusions...its silly!!!

Regards the mass change, only explanation I could give is that either he would be very light or extremely fragile. In the episode, he was neither, stomping around, smashing into stuff and surviving an explosion. If he was hollow, he would've snapped like a dry twig when he tried to walk. Put simply, this episode's psuedo-science sucked.
