End notes
Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings.
And why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings."

My Mom is currently renting a house in Ajijic (in state of Jalisco) while she is having many renovations done on the house she bought in a nearby tiny town.
Visiting the Aztec pyramid site at Teuchitlan (about 2 hours west of Ajijic) was a definite
highlight in one of my recent visits to Mexico. This was a ceremonial center built in concentric
circles called Guachimontones somewhere between 1500 and 500 BC. This ceremonial center
supported 40,000 people at one time. This is the largest Mesoamerican sites ever discovered.
Restoration of the site has been going for 5 years. The geometry of the ruins follows other
Aztec constructions. It was built in relationship to the four directions. The edges of the
building complex corresponds to the horizon. As seen with photo on the right, the pyramid
mimicks the terrain of the Tequilla volcano (in the background), which is also indicative
in Aztec constructions. There are also markers showing the sun's position during the solstice
and equinox. I got this great overview picture (above) of the pyramid and the town of
Teuchitlan in its background by standing on another pyramid site which has not been
restored. The pyramid you see in the picture is about 10 meters (over 33 feet) high.
The one I'm standing on is 16 meters high.
