I'm Shibby.. I've no major in philosophy.. on the contrary, I'm 18 years old.. still attending highschool. But life is only what you perceive it to be.. Everyone's view on life varies. Everyone has a different side of the story to tell. I try my best to be open-minded with whatever situation I'm confronted with.. not to judge, and place labels. Being judgemental denies you the finer points in life, You can learn so much from the people around you.

Welcome!
I have been actively inviting people from various forums who show a bit of wit or wax philosophical at times. I welcome you all to the Guild. We're looking for deep thought on any subject from the traditional "classic philosopher" threads to "here's what I think" style threads. Please feel free to post your ideas whether hair-brained or mundane, witty or blunt, pleasing or offensive... all is welcome. We only ask that you show respect for others within the Guild and respond with actual thoughts and ideas rather than 3 word flames typed in 3l33t. That is the whole purpose of the Guild, to have a serious discussion & debate without reducing ourselves to the lowest levels.
Again... welcome! And have fun!

Salutations. I am breaking of dawn, a nineteen year old in New Hampshire who will be in her second year at college in the fall. At school, I have taken "Intro. to Philosophy," "Modern Philosophy II," and "American Political Thought." These courses have allowed me to learn about various concepts that I wouldn't have explored otherwise, especially when discussing with professors and fellow classmates. I lean towards the views of Existentialists, though I prefer to think of myself as open-minded and curious.
Besides philosophy, I'm interested in other ways of expanding the mind, such as imagination, writing/literature, and role playing. I am majoring in political science. I am currentaly a non-practicing Jew, though was spiritual in the past and studied Kabbalah for a while, before I lost motivation.

Good day everyone... I am Ethan, age 18 soon to be 19, ready to attend UVM this fall, and I just joined (as you may have gathered by the fact I am introducing myself) this guild. Ochimaru invited me after we were in discussion on a forum concerning religion, etc.
Well, to begin I suppose I should state my philosophical experience... Most of what I know I have taught myself, a small bit I know from magazine articles and lectures on tapes. My specialty as my namesake suggests is Fredierch Nietzsche, I also have experimented a little with Aristotle, Plato, John Dewey, and a few others. The majority of my philosophical knowledge is the result of common sense and personal discovery though. In high school I founded my schools speech/debate team, so I have done almost the whole gambit ranging from Policy Debate, Impromptu, Duo, a little LD, to the recently developed Public Forum debate and Congress. Between all those, I have gotten a base knowledge of some philosophical ideals; by the end of this semester at college (and an intro course to philosophy wink ) I should be able to bring even more to discussions.
As far as helping to get people into the guild, I will also try my hardest to interest people. Glad to meet everyone, and hope to enjoy some meaningful conversation! smile

Meh...the name's Cougar Draven, or course...I'm 18, about to enter my last year of high school, and right now, I feel like I've been hit in the back with a sledgehammer.
Since I've no formal or academic philosophic background, I guess I can only tell you what I know about myself. I've managed to follow both existentialism and pragmatism for close to two years, and I have some very strange beliefs when it comes to life on the planet Earth. I can and will debate just about any topic I see, taking a devil's advocate point if I must to debate it. That's just how I am.
I also write quite a bit, and (I don't know if this helps) have extensive experience dealing with psychiatrists and psychologists, most of it stemming from my chronic depression and fantastic views on life.
Anything else you want to know about me? PM me, I'm on most every day.

I am RocketmanDX! My background is very limited but I shall say that I am 12 going to the 8th grade. I am a drawer, as you can tell from my signature. I am a Dynasty Warriors fan, and I love to think ahead sometimes... This does however sometimes turn out to be a bad thing for me. I love the guild here and feel very welcome here, so I thank you all for inviting me, expecially Lesidia. Thats all for now!

You have some talent there! If that's something you enjoy, I would definitely persue it, seriously. When you're a teen that's the best time to master your skill and build a reputation. Just by selling some paintings/drawings on ebay or locally... or having an online gallery. And Dynasty Warriors rocks! I love the historical aspect tied with the joy of killing thousands with great ease. I can't wait for the PSP version... (even though I don't have a PSP yet)

Hello, I'm Adumbro Deus and I'm new around here.
18 uears old, just graduated highschool, and I have always had a strong backround in philosophy.
I am a great believer in logic, and tend to follow the concepts, if not the applications of Locke and other more liberal philosophers.

Hey there! I have no idea why I was invited to the guild, but apparently someone thinks I have some intelligence perhaps... wink I'm 21 from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I'm in my 3rd year of college for Bachelor of Science, Graphic Design. I haven't had a philosophy / sociology class since high school, but I frequent the ED forum and other web forums online where I enjoy expressing my ideas and discussing my views with others.

Welcome new recruits!!
I am on the recruiting mission again, hunting for anyone with a philosophical mind who likes to wax intellectual about the impossible, improbably, unanswerable and circumstantial. Please, feel free to let your ideas fly & new threads are always welcome (as long as they're not repeats). A poll never hurt anyone, either.
Some of you were invited b/c of your posts on various threads, others were interested in starting a philosopher's guild with me. Well, here it is! Due to confusion between Mods and Gaians, the guild forum section in the general forums appears to ONLY be for guilds under construction, and not for recruiting new members. Which is plain silly, as nobody is looking in general discussion or the fast flowing chatterbox for Guild info. Besides the point... I welcome you all! Please feel free to PM me if ya have any questions or want to bounce elastic ideas off my brain. I'm always open for a conversation!

hi i'm re and i am well... i think alot and like to debate people and think and talk and yeah. i have many theories am a bit of a psychologist i like theology philosophy creation theories and such. my favorite philosophy is to beleive in everything and nothing i try to create original idea's which i find latter other people have also had sadness. i like to be open minded but i also don't give up easily and my challenge is for others to proove things to me. i usually end up being a devils advocate sometimes just so both sides get representation. i can argue either side usually unless there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary then i usually just pick the one that seems more plausible... i hate picking so i usually give the other person the pick of sides i have picked some stand points which i do stick too alot of the time such as the whole open minded everything and nothing idea and my other is that everyone is truly free sometimes they just don't realise it and that when you define things it's just putting limits on what it can be in your mind. i don't beleive that you should really define anything but how else are we to interprate info. well yeah...
