What would would you do if one of your favorite authors died before completing a series?
Perform a ritual to contact the dead.
  My favorite author died? Whatever.
  Cry! Waaaaah!
I would create my own personal ending to their book.
Play with my slinky...it goes up and down and up and down...
Leave a flower at his or her grave.

idealy i would look through all their notes, they'll have the ending written somewhere. if not their friends might have been told what could happen. if all else fails i preform a ooiji board (i KNOW i can't spell it, you try better!) *shudders* and find out that way. they better not though cause i never want to have to do a board

Ouija Board. I remember because it has two different languages of "Yes" in it. "Oui", French, and "Ja", German.

I think It would be very bad if Garth Nix died before he finished his Keys to the Kingdom and Gatekeepers series but if he never wrote another Alex Rider book again I would be so happy. I once read somewhere that V. C. Andrews had notes of all the books she planned to write and when she died before finishing her books her family hired another author to finish writing all her books.

it happened to the WOT books and RJ has much of it complete the last book of course and he has extensive notes on it so they are going to finish it

it has happened with VC Andrews all i have to say is that i couldn't even finish the last book it was too different and too weird to read it from another authors perpestive

the best you can hope for is for someone to pick up the mantle and continue

If George R. R. Martin died before the end of his series, I would cry. I really would. I love his characters so much that the limbo of not knowing what happened to them would be enough to give me a small breakdown.

And he's said that he won't tell anyone how he's tying up the major plot points, either, because he doesn't want anyone screwing up the books by writing them for him. I agree with him, but it would hurt if he died.

Well, if they have kids their kids might try to finish the series, or it would just end. It would go to the point and the drop away and leave readers forever wondering what would have happened. And there would probably be about ten trillion fanfics sprouting up that finish the series how that person wants it.

I have no idea what I'd do if J.K. Rowling or Christopher Paolini just died without finishing their books crying . It would be kind of sad, and I guess I'd probably always be wondering, what really happened in the end...?
Usually I think they'd get someone else to finish it based on the author's notes. Take robert Jordan for example, he died this past september from cancer before he could finish the Wheel of time series. I know that someone else is going to finish it but I can't remember exactly who.

For the next couple of months, I would dwell on those books, become obsessed, and come up with my own alternative endings to the stories. But I'd feel kind of empty, not knowing how it was supposed to end...

I would totaly do the same!!! but the publisher migth release the notes the author did so the fans might create their own endings...

If Stephenie Meyer died before writing Breaking Dawn (which she already did), I'd definitely cry because I would've been waiting and waiting.

That happened with a great book series called The Wheel of Time. The Author Robert Jordon died before the last book came out, so now a new author is using his notes to finish the book.

I just hope it comes out good.

... Hosnap. That would suck. But I think some one would eventually finish the series. I think it would depend on how much I liked the series though.
