I play the trumpet. Some of my section is arrogant. Some of it sucks. And some of it is really good. I can understand why some people really dislike us, but we do have it fairly hard compared to a lot of the other instruments. If you have a trumpet player who can play well, let them brag a bit. They deserve it. But then again, don't let them get too cocky. ^^

+(Radical_Ire)+ One: We like it when you hate us (lol, okay so maybe we don't, it is more of an appearance thing as to not bruise our ego.) rofl that made me think of the guys in my section. they have a little war going on with the preppy flute and clarinet players. initially, they joined the game bus they signed up for simply to spite them (and now i'm sure ever game the girls are crying cause the guys reek rofl ) but i hear they have plans for more stuff later on. it's basically them rebelling to the preps being in charge of the band ::sigh:: i wish i could be there to help them =/

+(Radical_Ire)+ Two: The trumpets have sort of a unique problem that many instraments don't. The tone of a trumpet is already shrill, and starts out sounding bad no matter who you are as a beginner. Also, the trumpet's voice carries very well, which makes it much easier to hear a single mistake. It is probably the most single directional sound you can find in an ensemble. As a woodwind, you don't have that problem as much unless you squeek your reed, because your sound is softer, and goes all around you and blends much easier. I've played other instraments, while the hardest i've seen has to be Oboe with technique and such, I might argue that trumpet is a very hard instrament to play well. Where as the technique isn't nearly as bad as woodwinds, the hard part is tone quality and pitch. So much work goes into fixing just those things in my band. It takes many different breathing exercises, long tones, ombishure exercises. You have to open your throat, and many other things. So what, now your saying your better than us?! xd

We have about 12 trumpets in our band and about 6 of them suck so bad that i wish i could snap the f'in instrument in half. And the ones who know how to play are so full of themselves that they don't play very well. But the high school marching band's trumpets rock! I heart them to death. It's just the 7th and 8th grade that's bad I guess.

Alphonse Elrich they're not too bad, the ones in my band tend to be loud and obnoxiously out of tune though sweatdrop there is only one kid like that in our band. everyone hates him anyways, and him being loud and out of tune makes it worse. but we don't really have an ego in our skool. we have more flute issues. too effin many. and half of them can't play and or are out of tune. but i guess all of this depends on the skool. and don't be complaining about us, b/c we are one of the only two sections that ppl really pay attention to in mb, the other being percussion, and we have the melody in that so again, stop it!

And it's gets bad when you first learn a piece b/c everyone hears your mistakes in the melody so you become afriad to play and then there aren't any trumpets playing b/c they don't know their part that well at that pt and then get in trouble b/c the main part isn't playing!!! very stressful.......... stare any other trumpets have the problem in their skool, b/c it happens everytime we learn a new piece in our skool

im the section leader for trumpet this year, and really to be honest most of them are really nice and really funny. except for one kid. and wouldn't you know it, he's second chair. he thinks he is section leader. its annoying as HELL. he'll say things like "oh you played your solo wrong." "oh, we should have a trumpet sectional, you and me." "hey here's the music we should play in the stands." and he yells at the other trumpets. i've yelled at him a few times but i dont think he gets it at all. :/

(nice pic MHHornfreak)
well i'm a trumpet and a freshman in highs school, but i definatly see where some people can "dislike" the trumpets. we do have some obnoxious people, but they're all really nice once you get to know them. and the other sections can't get to know them because they can't spend that much time with them. i also agree about how the trumoets have parts that can easily have mistakes pointed out. how we can't blend as much. i think most of the band does like us though. they just think we're not completely sane lol

The only obnoxious trumpet player I can really think of is my band director, who, at 27 still regularly says the word 'feces' rolleyes Either that or he empties his spit valve on you. He's really good, though, and he even played with those.. uh, Blue Devil dudes or something. But anyways, trumpets rock. I really respect how hard they have to work to get a really good sound (I hate parents of trumpet beginners who think their kids totally suck [my 4th grade cousin's esp.], they're doing great, losers! It's like my clarinet 4th grade, I try a high C and they think I broke my instrument mad ) It's especially fun when you hear them in sufjan stevens, john mayer, that sort of stuff. Really makes the song special. Go trumpets mrgreen

I think trumpet players are awesome and really nice people. Mainly because I am one hehehe. But really I have not met a really mean or annoying trumpet player. Everyone in our band doesn't seem to mind us and one day all of trumpets were gone then they realized how bad they were when we weren't there.
