At the sound of the alarm Charles had already begun sprinting down to the courtyard. With guards yelling things at each other and at him, reporting the situation things were pretty chaotic. But outward appearances remained important and so Charles slowed his pace considerably as he actually entered the courtyard until he came to a stop. His gaze rested on the guardians. He didn't need to look around to know the kids were missing. "Where are the children?" There was just a small note of urgency in his voice and while he didn't necessairily think there was a breach of security (since that kind of thing was usually followed by screams, pain and death) it was still his job to assume the worst and act accordingly. As his gaze swept the courtyard he noticed something else missing and suddenly he felt relieved. "And where is Jim?" *** Jim had probably been the only one to have seen the kids sneaking off. Smiling slightly at their antics, the forgotten man decided to follow them to see what they were up to. After all, the entire Haven was rigged with alarms set up pretty much everywhere so it wasn't entirely unlikely for the kids to accidently set off an alarm or two and send everyone into a panicked frenzy. He probably had to at least try to stop it. He made his way past the guardians who didn't even seem to notice him and that's when the alarms went off. Even though he had expected it he was still caught slightly off guard. Those things were louder than he had expected and he just knew that the same alarms were blaring back at the NSA headquarters, that units were already being dispatched, Supers alerted and Charles trying to find out what was going on. He quickly continued to where he had seen the kids and found Zayd holding a shoe. He crouched down onto the boy's level and smiled at him, raising his voice to get over the noise that the alarm made although he made sure to maintain a cheery and (hopefully) calm voice. "Hey there Zayd. Is everything alright?" He had said it casually. Well.... at least as casual as one could be with those alarms blaring.

It was that man; the man from before. They were going to be in even more trouble... or maybe he was just going to be in trouble, since Candice was... well, gone - quite literally.
But seriously, that was a stupid question. 'Is everything alright?'. Possibly one of the most inane Zayd had ever heard - except maybe 'is that the police?'. Honestly. He would just have to play along with whatever adult-y notions Jim had, and hopefully he wouldn't find out about Candice - he was pretty sure he should have said something when she ignored the front entrance. She would probably be in trouble, and he would be in trouble for not stopping her.
"Umm..."
When the alarms initially went off, Jenny thought it was a routine occurence - then it went on for more then a couple of seconds, her mindset changed to 'oh s**t!'
It didn't occur to her for another three seconds that Zayd might be in danger; she hadn't heard any screaming...
"I don't know! I think they wandered off together..."
Think of it like this; vagueness was better then losing her head altogether.

Joshua had the dececy to look abashed. "Umm... we wern't paying attention... She is going to be OK right?" His face dropped into a worried look as his mind raced. Unfortunatly the frequent scary movies that he enjoyed watching were now comming back to haunt him. "There isn't someone trying to hurt them right?"
The alarm kept blaring, Candice could hear nothing but the loud consistant bleat. Noone seemed to be in the room any more so she tried to attack the door again. Pushing against it harder this time she squeezed her eyes shut and rammed herself into the door by using her legs. Unfortunatly she met little resistance and threw herself across the floor into the kitchen. Sprawled on the floor Candice pushed herself and bit her lip as she felt bruised knees and wrists.
Slapping her hands against her ears to block out the ever increasing noise the little girl looked around for a way to escape. A back window that seemed pretty low to the ground was the ideal escape route. Gathering up courage and strength she placed her weight on her ancle and was promptly rewarded with a sharp pain in her ankle. Tears comming to her eyes the now frightened girl only wanted out. She stared at the window and made a decision. Squeezing her eyes shut she ran full pelt towards the glass trying to will herself intangable at the same time. She could feel the familiar tingling in her extremities before THUMP! she was out like a light, softly crumpling to the floor.

Charles gave Joshua an unreadable look which could have meant anything ranging from 'duh-you-idiot' to 'aw-how-cute-you-don't-know-what's-going-on'. However, knowing Charles it was probably one of the former. He cleared his throat. "That is the reason that these children were put with guardians such as yourself. They are the target of both a range of Villains as well as regular humans. But no. Currently we do not believe anyone has tried to break into Safe Haven which just leaves us to wonder what the kids have tried to do." It couldn't be that serious. Hopefully. Really annoyed by the blaring alarms Charles pulled out a small phone, pressed a button and barked something in it. The next moment all the alarms went off leaving a deafening silence. --- With the indirect approach not working Jim decided to try the direct approach. "Okay then Zayd. Where is Candice? We'd really like to know where she is, just to make sure she isn't hurt." He studied the boy carefully, assessing his reactions. He seemed to be quite nervous. Jim mentally slapped himself for not thinking about that. "You don't have to worry about getting in trouble." He bent closer to Zayd and lowered his voice slightly. "It'll just be our secret. I won't tell." He smiled a (hopefully) reassuring smile to the young boy.

[*is very juvenile and finds your siggy amusing* <3]
"ummm..." Zayd blinked, taking a step backwards. Jim seemed alright, but he didn't like men who got too close - back home, he seemed to have spent half of his time dodging 'funny' men. And as for not telling, all of the alarms had gone off. To him, Jim came over as nice, but essentially just a little dim. But... if Candice was hurt... (and why else wouldn't she have come back by now) and she got even worse because he didn't say... Zayd wrestled with the conflicting arguments for a second, then decided to tell. "She went through the wall..."
"Well, thank god for that" Jenny commented in the sudden silence. "I think my ears are bleeding" Maybe she was being a bit flippant, but if there -wasn't- trouble, then for Zayd's sake, defusing the situation was probably a good idea.

Joshua looked from Charles to Jenny and back agaibn. Well everyone else seemed to be relaxed with everything so there shouldn't be anything major going on. Though he had that lingering doubt, he knew how high tech the alarms were, even if he didn't know their full extent. Something had happened as it was very unlikely for the alarms to have gone off on their own. Letting himself breath the programmer turned to Charles. "Now I have room in my head to think, I wonder where they could have gotten to anyways? It's not like they were left alone that long."
Silence... All Candice sould see, hear or feel was dark silence. The calacphony of alarms were unheard as she seemed to float in her subconcious. She had almost made it through the wall except that lingering feeling of doubt, that tiny inch of her that wanted to be normal shouted out at the last minute "LOOK OUT!" and she had failed, her momentun careening her into the window causing her fall and subsequent concussion. Luckly she was still breathing and upon inspection would have nothing but a few bruises and a small gash above her right eyebrow that would heal. But still... she was out cold...

"Ah." Jim blinked and looked at the wall, "That can be a problem," he muttered and sat looking at the wall for a moment.
It wasn't really a problem that she had gone through that wall, but the man had just realized that she could go right through his program walls and mess things up. So he was trying to think of solutions for that. He could, possibly...
No, wait. That wasn't the primary problem right now.
Jim stood, "Charles! Zayd's here, he's fine. Candice went through the wall here." he looked down at Zayd, "Don't worry, Charles will know how to help her out. Actually, maybe you can do that with us. Come on, we'll see where this goes." With any luck, it actually went to the kitchen like logic said it did. This place was good on the illusion thing though.
Charles had turned to give Jim an equally as annoyed look, but didn't say anything. He silently turned and went to check on Candice, wordlessly motioning to the guards to not go in. No use in scaring her too. Those consequences were never good.
OOC: Sorry about the vagueness. Yell if it's not enough to answer to.

"'kay" Zayd stuck a thumb into his mouth, chewing it worriedly. Glancing up at Jim to check that it was okay, he followed Charles, sticking his hands into his trousers casually - he looked a lot more relaxed then he felt, to tell the truth... He hoped that she wasn't hurt; he would feel responsible, for not stopping her - he had just gone along with what she had asked, without stopping to question it. T'tell the truth, that wasn't something that the 'old' Zayd would have done. Next time he would stop her before she got into that sort of trouble again...

Charles was several steps ahead of Jim and Zayd, taking long strides to where the girl should be. Like Jim, he was already thinking of the possibilities of these powers, but his weren't excluded to nearly shallow things like training games. His mind raced with images of monsters being able to go through walls and little girls running away without being able to be detected. He just hoped this one wouldn't be that sort of trouble.
"Candice?" he frowned. Or was she? He didn't see her immediately, "Candice, come out now."
A few moments later, he was beside the girl and examining a crooked-looking ankle. Images of girls getting stuck in things instead popped in his mind, "She's lucky she didn't entirely solidify in that wall, she'd be out a leg," he muttered as Jim walked in behind him, "Call the medics," he ordered, "These children cause more..."
"Are children," Jim interrupted, "And will be so. See, look, Zayd, everything will be fine." He knelt down beside the girl, "It'll be ok, nothing we can't handle." He spoke to the unconscious girl, but his words were for the boys.
Medics were on the scene immediately, whether it was because they were that efficient or rapid or Jim had already guessed and called was hard to tell. The girl's foot was examined, and she was brought back around, gentle questions and assurances applied as they picked her up into a stretcher.
When the medics arrived, Charles had turned back to fetch the guardians, "They'll take her to the infirmary," he waved to the other side of the Safe Haven, aptly fitted with an extra medical room, then turned to Jenny, "If you'd like to leave, that would be fine. We can train another day. Of course, you're welcome to stay and get to know your neighbor better. Jim may even have something for Zayd." He turned his head to look at Jim.
Jim nodded, "Of course, let me..." whatever he was said was lost, as he turned and rushed out of the room. Apparently he'd taken the suggestion to Jenny as a command to himself, and Joshua got to see a rare side of his boss--the obediant employee.

Joshua put two and two together and realized what had happened to Candice. The weight of what could thudded down on his shoulders like a tonn of bricks but at the same time he felt a surge of excitement. "She went through the wall? Wow..." The few times he had tried to coax her into phasing through something had ended in frowns, outbursts, some attitude and once, tears. He had worried slightly that she had no control over her powers and wondered it was a panic reaction instead of an actual controllable power. This even proved otherwise, he would have to be careful with that information though, two could play those games. Comming back to the present he looked over towards the EMT's and asked the fateful words: "She is going to be ok, right?" a small sigh of relief acompanied that as he heard her movements get stronger as she was woken back up. He winced as he heard a moan of pain and looked worriedly on as she was wisked away. Should he follow? Or stay with Jenny and the others?
It was a world of noise, bright lights and lots of people. The hospital all over again. She kicked out slightly at the restrint on her leg before wimpering a little at the sudden flare of pain as her ankle was pulled. Smart enough to stop moving she blinked and looked around at the people until her gaze fell on Charles who was still hovering near by. Her eyes widened suddenly as she remembered what she had just done before narrowing as she realized he knew too. A spark of fear showed as her mind reminded her of what happened last time she used her powers before a look of confusion washed over her face, he wasn't mad?
Her ankle still hurt and there was a dull throbbing just over one eye. She was going to be sporting a few bruises for a bit. As her thoughts started to gain a little cohesion she wiggled her toes of her good foot. No pain there... Hands? a little sore but nothing too bad... Bad ankle? Ouch! ok... that one wasn't good at all. She tried to sit up and found herself pressed down again gently but firmly. Glancing around again she realized she was on the move, being wisked away but some how wasn't worried this time. Something about the look on Charles face as he turned away...
She hadn't seen Joshua's face or then she might have had some cause for worry...

Zayd had, in fact, followed the strecher, rather like a little lost puppy - he hadn't got particularly far before Jenny had grabbed his wrist, pulling him back to listen to Charles. "I think it might be better if we did leave" she said softly, holding Zayd's wrist so he couldn't try to slip off again. "He's bound to be all worked up" "I'm not!" Zayd snapped, displaying the first burst of temper since his arrival, and yanking his wrist away from her. He turned back to Charles, inclining his head gravely, like a little old man "I'd like to stay sir, please...?"

The medics were saying all sorts of jargon, but the obvious part of all of it was the fact that Candice had indeed broken at least one bone in her ankle and had a small concussion. One nice lady had watched as Candice moved all her joints, nodding and smiling and encouraging her. She carefully noted all of Candice's reactions, and where the girl had the most pain.
"Hello, sweetie, I'm Sarah, we're going to do our very best to make you feel better in a moment. I bet you would like for your foot to stop hurting. We're going to give you some local anesthesia, which means that we're going to make your leg go numb, but first you're going to feel some needles. Is that ok?"
---
Charles raised an eyebrow at Joshua, at his first comment, but he looked over only long enough to do that and then briskly nod. Yes, yes, of course she'd gone through the wall. That should have been expected, he should have accounted for it. Why did the man even have to ask? People, not even first considering the serious part of it.
"Of course she's going to be all right, if she hasn't completely cru--" Charles interrupted his own thoughts to answer Joshua's second question, and interrupted himself again when he realized that little eyes were looking at him as well as the adults, "We have the very best medical team."
Charles looked down at Zayd, and his expression softened, "I don't think the medics will let you stay with Candice right now. You can stay in Safe Haven, or Jim can set you up with a game somewhere if you'd like." Either he completely ignored Jenny or had been so caught up in everything else that he hadn't heard the guardian's request for Zayd to leave.

Candice nodded not sure she wasnted to speak yet. Everything was going horribly, horribly wrong she sniffled slightly as everything washed over here. Slightly embarrased she looked away from the nurse wondering if there was going to be trouble to follow. The images from before flashed back into her head and she angrily pushed them away. She consentrated on the lights as they passed over head and wiggled toe just to spite herself as she felt the jolt of pain.
The nurse said something about giving her a shot. Candice blanched, she hated needles more then she hated being hurt. Fighting an urge to run away she breathed deep and attempted to shut down the voice in her head. It wasn't until she heard another voice trying to calm her down that she realized it had happened again. She was insubstantial and slowly sinking through the gurney.
Joshua started paceing across the floor before taking a seat. He looked up to Jenny and made a half-hearted grin. "Not too good of a first impression huh?" He looked down the hallway where Candice had been wisked away and fell into thought. Suddenly standing back up he turned towards Charles. "Where can I wait for her, I'm sure she'll want a familiar face when she comes back." Hopefully he would be able to make up for not watching his charge a little more closely.

"Oh" Zayd stared at Charles for a second, then turned around, back to Jenny. "We're staying, okay?" "Um..." Jenny was, to tell the truth, a little thrown - where had this sudden confidence (if you could call it that), come from? But if he wanted to stay - and he seemed to really want it - why stop him? She wasn't sure if he was worried about his playmate (and she believed Charles' assurances), or was just enjoying the chance to be away from the house. "Alright then" Zayd let out a little grin, looking completly angelic for a moment. He turned back to Charles, arms locked behind his back. "A game'd be nice, I think...?"

"Candice, sweetheart, be careful!" Sarah's voice wasn't paniced, although her hands moved uneasily along the edge of the cot. She wanted to touch and sooth the child, but that was impossible, "Everything's going to be calm...fine...take a deep breath, calm yourself. It'll be fine."
"Nuts!" another medic grumbled as half of the fluid squirted out onto the cot, "I maybe had half of that in..."
"Will someone try to catch her if she falls through? Someone give me my DVD player!"
As odd as it was, a DVD player was hooked up high onto the cot, and it started to play a currently popular children's movie. Sarah smiled at Candice, "Hey, darling, look at what we have for you..."
--------
"The door to the right," Charles answered Joshua briskly, "Ask the guard to take you to the medics' waiting room."
He nodded to Zayd, "What sort of game, Zayd? I'm sure Jim has all sorts planned for you...Er..Maybe I can let you go for a ride in one of our helicopters?" It had just occured to the man that he had just practically offered to babysit a guardian and her child. Why?
