I think such a long story must have some cut-outs. The movies were 3 - 4 hours long each, isn't that enough? blaugh
And I didn't miss Scouring of the Shire in the movie. It would be too dark for a movie ending. And those who have read the books, know what happened to the Shire and they can add that to the movies in their heads. lol
Briefly, I heart the movies and the books. I've got the 12 DVD edition at home and I watch it quite often. twisted Peter shouldn't have changed the ending. That showed everything that JRR was leading up to his entire series. It couldn't be avoided. It also shows just how corrupt Hollywood is if they aren't willing to keep an ending because it's
too dark.
You don't change the ending to Casablanca, and you don't change the ending to LOTR. That's it.
