"Yes, that's excellent advice. I'll do some research on her eating habits, and be sure to take note of the other animals around here." Immediately, she thought of DeArca and his mouse. Were mice the preferred badger food? She hoped not, but even so, she could prevent her daughter from eating the mouse--she was sure of it.
"Thank you again Oqaia. It's been lovely to meet you. I'm sure we will have many journies together," she said with a smile, standing up. "You must be tired. I don't want to keep you. Why don't I see you out," she offered. "The meji needs to give you some rest," she said, nudging the woman in the arm lightly. "Have a lovely evening." She opened the door for her guest and allowed her to step out into the evening. She waved with one hand, the other still cradling the badger. "Night!"
Turning back into the wagon, she set the badger down on the bed at the back of the wagon. Exploring her surroundings, the creature sniffed around, finding the most comfortable spot. Once she found it, she turned two circles and layed down, giving a yawn.
"Tired, are you? Well, tomorrow we'll learn more about each other," she said to the creature as it layed it's head down. "Goodnight darling," she whispered as the badger fell asleep.

A Fortune.Sizzla Carrying Kalpana under her arm, Irina approached Val's wagon. She hadn't had a chance to meet the head of the caravan yet, and with all the strange things going on, she thought she'd stop in and meet the woman...and perhaps have Kal's fortune read.
The badger sniffed the air as they walked, looking curiously around her. She certainly was enjoying her new life in the caravan, even though she didn't have much space to dig in Irina's wagon.
Irina knocked on the door and waited for a reply, hoping the gypsy would be in. Valelldia Valleldia came to the door of WhistleStick, a red cloth that she had been folding draped over her arm. She recognized the woman at her doorstep as soon as she was revealed: not from having met her personally... but still, the head of the caravan made sure that she knew her brothers and sisters. Beyond seeing her at the wagon ordering ceremony and about the caravan as they moored for meals and such, her half-sister had told her much about this strange Fortunette and its mother.
"Greetings, Irina. I'm so glad you came to see me. I was wondering when we'd have a chance to get acquainted. Oqaia has told me so much about you and little Kalpana."
As she escorted them in, Valelldia gave Kalpana a friendly brush under the chin. She had a way with Fortunettes, and very, very few would ever think to attack or be cross with this mystical woman.
"Please. Sit. ...Did you come to me with a question? Perhaps with the need for a reading?" Sizzla Irina was glad to see the woman in good spirits. She entered the wagon and sat down, smiling. "So good to meet you too! Though I've seen you around, I'm glad we'll get to know each other a little more while we're here."
Kal was appreciative of the slight chin-nuzzle, and she gave Val as much of a grin as a badger could. If she was a cat, she would definitely purr.
"Ah, so you've heard about us from Oqaia? She's a very nice woman--very welcoming! Though Kalpana's last growing was a bit intense, I'm hoping for better things for her in the future." She nodded at the woman, and continued.
"Well, I was just sitting around the fire, talking to the others, and it seems they've had some strange fortunes come from their banya birds as of late. Since I don't have one, I was curious if maybe you could tell me if something odd might happen to Kal. I want to be prepared for anything that may come our way." She looked down at the badger, and stroked her back, hoping that it would calm her even further. Valelldia Valelldia smiled. "Yes, Oqaia is such a sweet girl. These days, the more time I spend with her, the more I regret not having grown up nearer to her. ...Our mothers are different," she explained softly. Then, upon Irina's request for a reading, Valelldia stopped speaking to allow the air to clear for the meij. She moved to her boon table, and pulled a golden cloth from her fine-hued crystal ball. Keeping Irina's question in mind, she beseeched of the meij an answer. As the images that swirled within the crystal solidified, so did her honeyed words as she translated their meaning... as best she could.
"Upcoming- the woods. The choice is not hers, so worry not. However, the animals will be separated. You must bargain for her release, or face a much greater fear of a Child of Darkness. And soon... soon, new friends will alight... the meij would smile upon Kalpana, were she to make peace with them- to shine in a normal setting. It will diffuse the trouble she and Illusion have already created with A Light in the Dark." Sizzla Irina listened as Val explained her relationship with Oq. "Well, it's wonderful that the two of you are getting to know each other now, even if you weren't able to grow up together," she said. Then, she watched as Val cleared the air, and pulled the cloth off of the crystal ball that sat in the middle of the table.
"Bargain for her release? Does this mean she'll be kidnapped?" Her eyes grew wide as she considered the possibility. "I will have to be sure to free her--whatever it takes." She nodded with confidence. "Is it bad to be a Child of Darkness?" she asked, not really knowing what made the difference.
"And has the trouble in the carvan stemmed from the element of Delusion?" She had to ask. After all, it was quite a strange element... Valelldia "I honestly don't know what bargaining for her release means... but it sounds as if you have a less cryptic message, so try to take it at that, if you don't know what else to do. As for being a child of the darkness... well, they're more susceptible to darker magic, to danger- and the longer they are infused with darkness, the more likely they are to grow up... wrong. Dark, and cruel- gaining back more of their animalistic features and losing their humanity. You see, each Fortunette is exposed to dark magic in their growths- it's why every Fortunette infant is a Darkling." Sizzla "I'll be sure to take the advice of the meji," Irina said, giving Val a serious look. "I'd rather like it if Kal grew up without any sort of dark forces in her life, though I know that will be more than a little challenging I feel."
She stood up and rearranged Kal in her arms. She'd gotten enough information for now, she thought, preparing herself to think of ways to bargain for the little badger's release. "Thank you Val. I appreciate your help and reading. I hope we'll get to know each other better in the coming months." She gave the woman a thankful nod and a smile. "See you later!"
The badger gave Val a nod and as big a 'smile' as she could muster, and with that, they headed out into the darkness of the night.

Rydell was pleased with his new home, and in settling in. However, even if the Lilas was displeased, it would have still given a dependable... if non-cryptic... fortune.
A kernel of fortune came by on a meij wind... and Rydell captured it, translating it as simply as he knew how.
If you have nothing to tempt a fae You will have a greater price to pay If nothing in your wagon stores is bright Or shiny or magical or has an inner light... Beseech your gypsy friends. Or steal. ...And later make amends.

NOTE: I apologize for not being around and updating my journal. RL went crazy on me in August, and has been constantly changing for the past few months. I just moved back home and am discovering my life outside of the internet again. I really like having a life, so I'm sorry. I would like to participate in the upcoming event as much as I can though. I always love the adventures you set up for us Oq. xd ))

Rydell caught the first meij wind that had passed by the caravan in months, and it tasted sweet to his senses. He captured the kernel and translated it as clearly as he could.

The meij seemed to affect Oscar, as well. He was able to animate for longer than a second now- but... still, his abilities were limited. His little spectacles nearly darted off his face, but before he could get three words out... he became cold purple stone again, and the little spectacles stayed in place.

Stream of the Meij
Irina had been preparing for winter, battening down her windows and sealing them as best as she could, wanting to be sure that no chill gusts of wind could seep into the wagon as they traveled. Kalpana was sleeping on the bed, curled up in as small a ball as she could muster, keeping all of her body heat to herself.
The caravan had been traveling for months now since they left the forest, headed to Tempranillo, a port city. Irina was looking forward to their arrival, ready to rest her weary bones for longer than their usual two-day pit stops. It would be nice to meet some new people and perhaps get around town a bit.
As she was straightening the chairs around her small table, she heard a squack from Rydell, and she looked over at him, wondering if he'd heard something on the meij. Kalpana too took notice, lifting her head from her warm body and curiously glancing at the bird as he spewed forth the fortune.
A price to be paid for her thievery...
Of course. Irina had expected such a thing--but it was interesting...If Kalpana would not pay, who would? Irina?
The gypsy woman's face contorted as she got a knot in her stomach. She hoped it would be her who would pay, instead of any of the other children in the caravan. Things hadn't been going very well for a lot of them it seemed. After dealing with the fae, some children hadn't been returned the same. Irina didn't want to be responsible for anything that happened to the other children--they had suffered enough.
And white fire.
She'd have to find it for Kal. Perhaps the badger could hunt it down too. If it had anything to do with her change from an animal to a Darkling Infant as the meij suggested, Kal might just have a nose for it.
A peculiar child.
Kalpana had already been blessed (cursed?) with the element of Delusion. It was only right that she may be a little odd. Irina couldn't help but hope the poor creature would turn out normally--she wanted the best for Kal, regardless of how she turned out. Even if she was a bit strange, Irina would accept her for what she was. She was her daughter after all.
As Irina went to sit beside Kalpana and stroke her fur reassuringly, she heard another sound. This time, it came from the statue of the frog that they'd received when they first came into the caravan. She hadn't heard much from Oscar since the beginning--his power was still minimal. But this time, he almost jumped as he caught the kernel of meij. As soon as he'd gotten out the three short words, he fell silent and still again. Oscar was a tease.
"Looks like we'll have to find Crick," Irina said, giving Kal a smile.
Kalpana seemed to agree, nudging her nose into Irina's hand.
"Perhaps he'll be the one to set you free of this animal body..." She gave the badger a hopeful smile and leaned back against the wall. "I just wonder what kind of fortunes the others have received..."

The Choosing and All Savior's DayThe RP can be found here, in Port Tempranillo: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=6789797Also, it was here that Kalpana became a toddler...and not a Darkling Infant like all the other Fortunettes. Oqaia White Fire is spicy. It is hot, it causes mouth-watering... and it is also a very mild narcotic. What sort of child would need a narcotic to find growth to the most peculiar toddler ever? ...Why... the delusional little one that Irina had found herself being mother to. A purple light- made up not of a wash... but bubbles- overtook the little badger... and when they disappeared, the thing in its mothers arms was... a largish toddler with a beautiful, but peculiar visage. All infants are Darkling Infants, due to the transferrance of the darker meij that causes the transformation. However... Kalpana was not an Infant of Darkling. What was she? ...As was much with this little one, it was... unknown.
