Sessrumnir laughed softly in response to Alastor calling him out on teasing him, but smiled when he admitted that he’d liked it.
“Me too,” he agreed, and closed his eyes for a moment longer to cherish the moment.
They’d been through so much, and they still had a long way to go, but somehow, everything felt like it was more bearable.
When he opened his eyes again, he was still smiling, but it soon fell a little with confused concern. Not about anything Alastor did, but because around them there seemed to be the tiny glowing fireflies again.
In the distance, over the treeline, he could barely make out a brighter gathering of the lights.
“I think your World is telling us we’re taking too long to get back,” he frowned, but he wasn’t upset. Once they made sure everyone was okay, and they had time to rest, he was sure they’d have a lot to talk about regarding the future.

Alastor’s face set into something like a frown at first, only because new things were not always good things.
And yet, this seemed to be.
He recognized the familiar glow of light–the same fireflies that seemed to dance from within his Core. The same fireflies that had guided them to the Chaos was now guiding them back, and it was a great relief to see a path home. To see his world coming alive.
“Well, then we’ll just have to finish this up after we get back. Better to check on everyone, anyway.” They hadn’t gotten any messages that things were wrong, so he could only assume that everyone had done as well as–maybe better than–they had.
Unlike before, the bobbing little lights did not flicker out of existence; they seemed to be manifestations of the energy in the air, or life coming up from the ground itself. A pleasant glow of soft energy descended upon the land, and for the first time in a long time, Alastor could see beyond the clouds. He was captivated by the glowing lights, but his eyes drifted to the thinned clouds, and the soft rays of sunlight that slowly filtered through. It must have been dawn on Alastor; it was still dark, but there was light.
He swallowed again and tooka small step back from Sessrumnir, but he took his hand and held it.
“You know. All of this doesn’t really feel real yet.”
His world was safe. The Chaos was gone. There was light, there was hope.
He’d kissed Michael.
He’d found peace.
