VynVanguard CorporalMOOD: Anxious but determined. ACTION: Getting mirror-walked into the ship by Logos. Stepping out without any concern that a camera might catch sight of him. Trying to speak to the Reasoner again. Logos brought them into the ship.
Vyn couldn’t say he liked the experience of mirrorwalking, but he made note of what he could, relying on his senses rather than his ComTech, first because he was too distracted by the strangeness of it all to take any scans in the short time it took them to make their way through, and then because it seemed rude to secretly do so when Logos was being kind enough to oblige them. She wore black but wasn’t a Negaverse Senshi. So far, she was one of the few people who didn’t seem to have any preconceived notions about the Vanguard. Vyn thought it worth remaining on her good side for as long as he could.
They arrived in a bathroom. Vyn noted the nearby camera and paused long enough to share a glance with Sessrumnir and Logos. Should they avoid the cameras or not? Vyn’s previous encounter with the Reasoner had been frustrating but otherwise uneventful. Despite the ominous feel of the ship, it didn’t seem inherently dangerous. (Not that anyone other than the Vanguard seemed to find it ominous, but the humans and Mauvians clearly had little understanding about the dangers of space.)
If they remained polite (and Vyn rather thought they had been polite last time; to the Reasoner, at least), perhaps they wouldn’t have to worry about this devolving into a HAL situation.
Thus, Vyn made what could potentially be classified as a reckless decision (if it backfired). He pointed to the camera, pointed to himself, then pointed back at the camera, and, assuming Sessrumnir and Logos understood to stay back and wait to see what happened, slipped out of the bathroom to place himself in full view. Either he could reason with the Reasoner and accomplish something without the need for sneaking around, or Sessrumnir and Logos could sneak off while he had the Reasoner distracted. (Maybe. Hopefully. Vyn was sort of winging it here.)
“Reasoner,” he tried again, holding his hands up in the universal sign of I mean no harm. “I was wondering if you’d had the opportunity to process some of the information we provided earlier. We told you we were here against our will, and you said resolving that issue seemed favorable.”Sweenys_Revengex Thank you for letting me puppet them in. Normally she wouldn't be able to mirrorwalk them, but I asked if we could do it in this instance and was given an affirmative, so. OH NO WAIT she's a super nevermind she should have no problem doing it! heart I know you're busy, so if something goes on that doesn't work for you, let me know and I can switch things around! cibariumx Sweeny has been kind enough to let us puppet Logos to move things along with getting Sess and Vyn into the ship, so whenever you're read to post again is good with us! Also I know this is supposed to be a stealth game but Vyn says ¯_(ツ)_/¯ yolo

VIATRIXThe little chaise lounge was perhaps one of the most appealing nap spots Viatrix had ever seen, and the rest of the space was similarly cozy. Someone must have found this little space at some point and decided to make a little hideout out of it. Next to the lounge was a desk with a bulletin board above it, littered with clippings, pamphlets and leaflets that boasted pictures and descriptions not only of Home Helper, but of virtually every other robot that had been seen on Astraya so far. Between the chaise lounge and the desk, scattered about the floor, was a skeleton. A Mauvian skeleton. The room looked so cozy to a Mauvian because it had been designed by one. Everything was ergonomically designed to suit one's cat form perfectly. And Viatrix had accidentally broken its resident's femur when she jumped down from the grate. LOGOS AND SESSRUMNIRNow was probably the only chance they would get to use the bathroom before they were safely back on Earth. And there was more than one stall in there, fortunately. Along with that, there was a path out of the bathroom to elsewhere in the ship that went through a blind spot from all the cameras, if one was careful enough. VYNVyn's inquiry, at first, was met with silence. It was quite darker in here than earlier. It almost seemed like this heap of battered alloys had shut down for good, save for a low wobbling hum barely audible in the background. For lack of a better word, it seemed to be sleeping -- in some low-power state that limited its awareness. A shrill beeping from its favorite monitor stirred it back to consciousness, however, and as the humming rose in prominence again, the cameras in the space blinked to life and split their attention between Mimi and Vyn. THE REASONER╬AR▞⬚I✜ (NPC) MOOD: Distracted ACTION: Addressing Vyn "SO T⬚E VELENIAN RETURNS, ALONE AND UNARMED. W⬚AT BECAME OF T⬚AT PLAYT⬚ING YOU CARRIED TO MAKE A MOCKERY OF WAR?"Something about the lighting was a little off compared to before.

Viatrix Order Mauvian, Bonded to Encke
MOOD: Alarmed and unsettled ACTION: Looking through the bulletins while trying not to desecrate a corpse any further...She was in! Honestly, she felt like she was in a spy movie. Wasn't so bad besides for the fact she might have been offending the Reasoner with her actions coming in there in the first place. She could do spy movie. It was fun, especially if the spy movie led to little comfy nap rooms like this. She couldn't really nap, but maybe if they were stuck here for a while, she could bring over the other Mauvians and consider it. What was she stepping on, though-- When she looked down and realized, Viatrix jumped as high in the air as her cat legs would take her and pounced away, her back bending and her fur standing on end. Her claws tried to dig into the ground even if she found no real purchase as she started with some level of horror at the passed member of her people. And... Long passed, at that, if they were a whole skeleton and not even remotely still together. And she just desecrated the corpse. She broke their bone. H-how-- Okay, maybe she had no interest in bringing the other Mauvians here. Or maybe she did? Why let their work go to waste-- Well. There were other elements of that work. Like the desk with all the clippings and pamphlets and-- Viatrix resolutely turned away from the skeleton, scanning over what she could find. Quietly, she took out her device and attempted taking pictures of what she could. Viatrix kept looking over her shoulder as much as she was looking for anything that stood out-- did every robot have something here? Maybe there was some hints as to how these robots became sentient... Maybe the Mauvian had been here on a research mission. And then decided to die in the middle of the floor -- She looked around harder, thumbing carefully through bulletins and items on the desk to see if there was anything that either explained what the Mauvian was actually doing there and if they had found anything, or at least who the Mauvian was-- How had they even gotten here (so they could die and she could break their bones later), had they been living here? Living on the ship? The last resident of Astraya? A stowaway? How long had they been dead-- Viatrix helplessly looked over her shoulder one more time as she kept scraping through.

VynVanguard CorporalMOOD: Flustrated (but trying to hide it) ACTION: Being a little sassy. Walking around the ship. Trying to find his way to something of relevance, like those power cells he and Sessrumnir discussed just before. Vyn didn’t like the ship any better the second time. He was sure the experience was similar to what the humans referred to as “the creeps,” but, despite his trepidation, Vyn continued to appear unbothered. He had been well trained, after all, and he would prove that to anyone who questioned him, including himself (even if, deep down, he thought his own inclusion must be a mistake).
When the ship roused itself, Vyn set his ComTech to record. Whatever occurred in this place, he wanted plenty of evidence to take back with him (or something to explain what happened to him, if he didn’t make it out of there).
As for his “plaything,” Vyn pulled his blaster from the holster along his right thigh. “It’s here. Are your optical processors malfunctioning? You don’t have to answer that,” he continued before an answer could be issued. “It hasn’t escaped my notice that you’ve evaded answering already. I shouldn’t be surprised. You’re in a poor state.”
Now that he had the Reasoner’s attention, Vyn began walking, keeping himself in view of the cameras. Parts of the ship were familiar to him after his earlier visit, but there was much he’d had neither the time nor the inclination to explore.
“You’re operating with information centuries out of date,” he said, keeping his tone conversational. “My people have known war. That we aren’t violent by nature and don’t seek out conflict doesn’t mean we haven’t done whatever necessary for our survival. We learn from our mistakes and strive to better ourselves in all things. For some of us, that means combat.
“Now, are you going to be of assistance, or shall I make do on my own? Bear in mind that you are technologically inferior.”
He left the ’it would not be difficult to disable you’ unsaid, but perhaps implied. (Whether or not it was true was another story. Vyn was sure he could manage it, eventually…)
He would have to trust that Sessrumnir and Logos would take advantage of their opportunity, and hope he was not, as the humans liked to say, playing with fire.

SessrumnirKnight of JupiterMOOD: Cautious. ACTION: Gonna try to take the mirror with them. Testing the cables for voltage to locate the power cells. The first thing Sessrumnir did was test to see if he could remove the mirror they’d used to get through so they could take it with them. If something happened and they needed to escape quickly, at least Logos could get out and wait for him on the other side until he retrieved Vyn and Viatrix. He had tools in his subspace to unhook the mirror if necessary, but even if it ended up breaking, the hull was weak enough that being hit from the inside should breach it even more than it was.
Besides, if they were able to get the mirror off the wall, they could use it to glance around corners without the threat of being shot by… whatever defense system the ship had.
Once they were out of the bathroom and in an area that didn’t seem like it had cameras, Sessrumnir turned to Logos to explain the plan.
“We’re looking for the power cells. See if we can just borrow them to get home and then figure out what to do if the others really want to come back and help,” he said quietly to Logos. But he paused and wrinkled his nose in hesitation.
“Let’s not tell Viatrix yet,” he suggested.
From there he rummaged through his subspace pocket and pulled out a couple of items. One was small and looked almost like a large pen. The other was a black box with an orange clamp on the top that was about the size of his hand. He attached the one with the clamp to his belt, as if it was completely normal for someone to have those kinds of tools with them.
“To test for voltage,” he explained to Logos, just in case she didn’t know what the tools were for. “We’re looking for which of the cables has the highest voltage. It will probably lead to whatever power source we need. Or lead to something we can disconnect.”
He pressed a button on the pen and the tip lit up green. If he placed it near a cable with any voltage, it would turn red and indicate if there was a low or high current on the digital screen. cibarium Sweeny let us know she will post when she can, but we can continue to keep things moving in the meantime! Logos will stay with Sess!

THE REASONER╬AR▞⬚I✜ (NPC) MOOD: Amused ACTION: Addressing Vyn Tinny little beeps and clicks emanated from the active monitor as the Reasoner dutifully tended to Mimi, all while fascinated cameras and recorders carefully processed Vyn's words. The Corporal was treated to the sight of the Cybercritter being fed, bathed, and read a bedtime story, and his host eagerly took more images of the blaster that was presented to it. They flashed in sequence on the second monitor along with the ones it had taken before, of the other Vanguardians' weapons. "WHAT ASSI▞TANCE, THEN, DOES THE MIGHTY VELENIAN WARRIOR SEEK FROM AN INFERIOR BEING?"The lighting brightened, but soured at the same time, a sickening sulfur color. "IF YOU HAVE TRULY EVOLVED AS YOU SO CLAIM, THIS CONVER▞ATION WOULD NOT HAVE COME TO PASS. YOU WOULD HAVE TAKEN WHAT YOU NEEDED ON OUR FIR▞T MEETING. THUS ARI▞ES THE QUE▞TION: IN THIS WAR YOU FOUGHT SO VALIANTLY, WERE YOU VICTORIOUS?"Cameras inched a little closer, meaningfully. Daring Vyn to answer. VIATRIXCrumbling, faded papers flew from the drawers as Viatrix rummaged through them. It was all receipts, invoices, and manifests -- for various parts, tools and machines, several of which appeared to have been won at auction. All laid out, the purchasing records told the story of a Mauvian who had purchased a junked ship and used their ingenuity to get it working again, while also amassing a collection of technology from across the stars. One document contained notes on each one purchased, with things like serial numbers and the product's condition. The collector was clearly excited to get something that was in mint condition, never-activated, or something that was rare or custom-made (such as the tinman from Pluto). SESSRUMNIR AND LOGOSThe mirror in the bathroom, surprisingly, popped off the wall quite easily -- with a little bit of the wall coming off along with it. A combination of water damage and rust and settling must have been eating away at that section for a while, with the crash leaving it ready to be lifted away by anyone who tried. Some piping was now exposed where one would have previously seen their reflection. While there was a tangle of cables to examine, Sessrumnir's experience was able to make methodical work of it. None of them were in excellent shape after centuries of use. It took a bit of switching back and forth, and looking up and down, to figure out for sure which ones were carrying more power and where they led. Eventually he was able to single out a cluster that snaked through a half-open door a little further in the darkness. Cameras perched at the doorway's corners suggested it was an important room.

VynVanguard CorporalMOOD: Flustrated. ACTION: Conversing with the Reasoner. Taking aim at Mimi. “No,” Vyn said, because it was the truth and he had no reason at that moment to lie. If he had, the Reasoner could have come by a more accurate answer some other way. Many of the humans were not unfamiliar with the tale, and had no incentive to keep it to themselves. “Velenia was taken from us. We thought we might find answers on Earth, enough that we might be able to reclaim our world, but we’ve had no success there either. Some of the humans would even let our people die.”
Somehow, Vyn’s voice remained steady. He mustered what strength he could, buoyed by stubbornness and anger. That he resented some of those humans was no secret. Disguising the bitterness seemed like a waste of time.
Much of the last several hours seemed like a waste of time.
Vyn turned about. He studied the cameras and the monitors and Mimi. The cybercritter was no more interesting than it’d been before — a meaningless distraction.
“As for you, some of the humans seem to think you and the inorganics that populate this world are some kind of marvel. Some of my own people even seem taken with the idea. I don’t share their enthusiasm, but out of respect for them I have tried to be polite. I have not always been successful, although, to you, I think, I have been more patient and attentive than you deserve.”
Idly, Vyn aimed his blaster at Mimi. With the number of cameras, he wasn’t sure where to look, so he stared steadily at the nearest one.
“You said before that resolving the issue of our being here seemed favorable,” Vyn reminded the Reasoner once again. “If that is the case, then I would prefer to continue our interactions in a manner that remains respectful of all parties involved. However, if you continue to evade and delay, I will do what I feel I must, and face whatever consequences that brings me. The survival of my people matters more to me than you, or Mimi, or any of your equally unhelpful friends.”

SessrumnirKnight of JupiterMOOD: Cautious. ACTION: Using the mirror to try and hide from the cameras. Tempted to use his summon to start tearing the place apart. In search of power cells. “How are you with dogs?” Sessrumnir asked Logos, but it was more of a rhetorical grumble to himself. He wouldn’t have much time with Princess, but a few minutes of her tearing down all the cameras and then busting out of the hull would save them a lot of time.
“Here, I don’t know if this is going to work. We might just have to come out into the open, but let’s hold the mirror up above us. Maybe we can trick the cameras into not knowing what they’re looking at,” he suggested, but he was doubting his own idea. For them to get through a doorway with numerous cameras without being seen was pretty much impossible. And he didn’t know how much time they had until the other robots came back to this place to swarm it.
He didn’t want to find out why they were interested in starseeds.
But they needed to keep pushing forward.
Sessrumnir held up the mirror, trying to shield both himself and Logos from the cameras so they could at least get close enough to the room, before figuring out which way they should angle the mirror to squeeze it and themselves through.
He hoped the power cells were in that room. Sweenys_Revenge Quoting to keep you in the loop! cibarium Logos is staying with Sess still!

Viatrix Order Mauvian, Bonded to Encke
MOOD: Wait. Did a Mauvian do this?? ACTION: ReadingReceipts. Manifests. Invoices. A Mauvian with a considerable amount of money. A considerable amount of money that they used to repair this ship, and purchase other technology. Other... Technology... Notes on each thing purchased. Mint condition. Rare. Custom made. Specific specifications. Was every single one of the residents of Astraya, of the ship, of the ship that the passed Mauvian had apparently at over point managed, on here? Viatrix spent some time reading these, taking a few pictures there and here, and then she looked over her shoulder again at the remains of the Mauvian. "Did you do this on purpose?" murmured she. Or had it just been a side effect of how long lived these machines were, that them advancing to the point of sapience was inevitable? She carefully picked up the manifest and the information of parts and robots she could, debating vanishing them away into her subspace pocket for further study. As she tucked them under one leg, she pawed around the room to see if she could spot anything else worthy of study, or if there was any technology that could be worth collecting--

THE REASONER╬AR▞⬚I✜ (NPC) MOOD: Impressed ACTION: Addressing Vyn The lighting soured more. A buzzing noise picked up faintly, sounding somewhat like a distant alarm. There was a sharp hiccup in every system, flickering and stuttering, the instant Vyn's weapon was pointed at the Reasoner's dear companion. It was shocked. Anxious, even. "YOU WOULD THREATEN AN INNOCENT IN PURSUIT OF YOUR INTERESTS?"Mimi beeped happily while dancing in a field of things barely recognizable as flowers, oblivious to the mortal peril they were in. "PERHAPS THERE IS HOPE FOR YOUR RACE AFTER ALL," it mused. "VERY WELL. IT STANDS TO REASON ASTRAYA IS ALSO PUTTING TO TRIAL ITS ORGANIC VISITORS."An ellipsis displayed on its spare screen, contemplatively. Then, a picture of a golden glass orb appeared. "BEHOLD THE SPHERE OF AMBREON. YOU HAVE NO DOUBT OBSERVED THEM UPON THE FORMS OF THE PURPOSE-SEARCHERS CARRIED HERE BY THIS VESSEL. TO ENCAPSULATE A STAR SEED IS THEIR DESIGN, AND THEY HARVEST THEM FROM THE LIVING."Each robot at the party, as well as met elsewhere, had exactly one of them installed on their person. It was what made them all seem like they had something in common at first glance, even though each one had been built on a different world. The spare monitor proceeded with a crude animation of a star seed being quite violently removed from someone's chest by such an orb. As far as who they intended to perform such an act on, that much was obvious. Now the spare monitor was flipping through images of the Reasoner's visitors from earlier, as if to underline the point. "ASTRAYA SENT A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST. BUT FEAR NOT, VELENIAN WARRIOR. I HAVE NO DESIRE FOR A STAR SEED OF MY OWN. SUCH A PURE THING SHOULD NOT BE TAINTED WITH MY NUMBERLESS SINS."The lighting cooled, and the buzzing wound down to silence again, as if the whole ship were releasing a sigh. With a tone of nostalgia, it said, "YOUR IRIDESCENT SKIES WERE ALL THE MORE BEAUTIFUL STREAKED WITH FIRE."And the monitor said, File not found.File not found.File not found. This happened a handful more times, before a map of the Reasoner's interior appeared. It zoomed in on a room that looked like it could be sleeping quarters or an office. Then, a marker appeared on what was probably some kind of storage space. "THE TREASURE WITHIN THIS CHAMBER IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS, SHOULD YOUR PEOPLE SURVIVE. YOU WILL FIND NO OBSTACLES ON THE WAY THERE. ENACT WHATEVER VENGEANCE SUITS YOU AND TAKE YOUR PRIZE."Quote: Vyn has obtained a small satchel containing a handful of silvery seeds. VIATRIXDigging through the space some more yielded a couple of loose teabags, some candy wrappers, a generous scattering of loose fur, and a rather captivating fidget toy that distracted for a good 45 seconds before being set back down. Since it was found on the chaise lounge near the deceased Mauvian's skeletal paw, it was easy to imagine them enjoying its soothing company one last time before dying a peaceful death on a beloved piece of furniture. Perhaps that's what actually happened, before the crash knocked its remains askew. Heading back up into the grate, Viatrix would find a simple path forward to the bathroom. Sessrumnir and Logos wouldn't be far off from there. Quote: Viatrix has obtained documents verifying a Mauvian once owned the Reasoner and the other robots. SESSRUMNIR AND LOGOSUsing the mirror as a makeshift shield against detection worked like a charm. The Reasoner was so accustomed to seeing its own cameras with its other cameras, it could hardly tell the difference. Unfortunately, it couldn't be taken through the half-open door directly, but propping it up in the right location would still make it useful as a quick escape route. On the other side, tangles of cables were latched hungrily to a power cell placed in the middle of the room, where the ship's much larger, and quite dead main power supply loomed above it from behind. The room smelled strangely like a house with a dusty furnace started up for the first time in the year, probably from whatever corrosion had been eating the engines. Any ideas of repairing the ship at all, let alone quickly, would easily be crushed by the sight. The auxiliary setup being used to keep the Reasoner alive was such a precariously slapped-together system, detaching all the cables would be easy. Quote: Sessrumnir and Logos have obtained a power cell usable by the Vanguard.

VynVanguard CorporalMOOD: Unsettled. ACTION: Taking the seeds and leaving to regroup with the others. Vyn lowered his weapon.
He was not so heartless that he would destroy an innocent creature without reason. (Though whether Mimi could be classified as a creature or not was, in his opinion, up for debate; Vyn would say, no, she was not a creature, merely a product of programming and a collection of pixels, but he thought some of his comrades might feel differently, as they did about the other inorganics.) Threatening Mimi to acquire a response was one thing. Now, having gotten one, there would be no point in her destruction, except to satisfy his own frustrations.
The information presented to him was concerning, but not a surprise. From what they’d already learned, Vyn had suspected their starseeds would be in danger. Having that confirmed was both worrying (he feared for his friends) and mildly satisfying (he thought it proved he had sound judgment).
But the rest of it…
Iridescent skies streaked with fire…
Was the Reasoner once again speaking of Velenia?
Vyn swallowed the lump that rose into his throat. He blinked rapidly to force a sudden build up of moisture out of his eyes. His heart ached, longing for a world he’d never known, and a home he feared he might never see again.
His lips parted as if he might speak, but Vyn found that he had no more words.
He studied the map of the ship. He left Mimi, and followed a path to the room the Reasoner had shown him. He scanned the satchel with his ComTech to determine that it was neither a trick nor a danger, then took it, and, finding nothing else of use there, made his way out to regroup with the others.EXITSeiana_ZI Shall we assume they all met up outside the ship and exchanged information? Tip this post if yes!
