Finding out she was finally with child had been super exciting. Of course the first person she wanted to tell was her husband but after that she wasn’t sure who to let in on the secret. Iriyana knew it wouldn’t be secret for long. Once one person in her family caught wind of it then all of them would know. So she wanted it to be a controlled chaos of sorts.
With a way to tell Ergon plotted down she sat at her desk and thought over how to break it to the rest of her family. She would leave it to her husband to tell his family. At the current moment she wasn’t so sure she wanted to go near her mother-in-law. The woman seemed to be losing memory a lot more lately and it scared her a bit.
The paper before her seemed to scream as it lacked words. So she took a deep breath and thought about it a bit more. Riya knew that she wanted to tell her mother at the very least. So that meant that the first name on the paper would be ‘Eirlys’ and beside it would be her father’s name because the two shared mail half the time anyways. With the header in place she started to pen down the note she wanted to send off. It highlighted the time they’d had to wait until this moment but by mid letter she had spilled the good news. She was finally expecting! Of course she also let her mother know that she was planning to tell Ergon after writing the letter and that she would write again to tell her how it went. She also made sure to let them know that they could share the news with her twin brother, Hulis.
When she was finished with that she gently blew across the ink to help it dry then folded the letter to be stuffed into an envelope. Riya properly addressed it and set it aside to write yet another letter. This one would be going to her uncles who were in Zena and thus would know the good news a lot sooner than her parents and brother would. This note was shorter, as she got to speak to him more often and he already knew about their troubles in trying to get pregnant. She also warned him to not say anything for a few days to give her other letters time to reach those they were intended for. It would be wrong of her to allow him to ruin the surprise for those who didn’t get their letters yet.
The thought crossed her mind to send a note to Sylvirah as well but then she figured she could just tell the woman in person. Provided Ergon didn’t beat her to it. Sylv was on his side of the family and so she expected him to let her in on it. If he didn’t then she would know once Riya and her got together and gossiped. She very much liked her sister-in-law. The woman was fun and it was somewhat amusing to see Ergon get touchy about things when her friend was involved.
When the letters were done, folded, stuffed, and addressed properly she thought about sending them out right away. However, she wanted to break the news to her husband first. It wouldn’t be fair to him if she sent the letters out and he didn’t catch on to what she was saying. So instead the letters were taken to the stand beside the door in preparation for the next day’s post. That way she could make sure Ergon understood the message and she didn’t forget to send them.

After a semi eventful morning with the boys she let them know that she would be going out for a small bit. Each of them had promised to stay inside until either she or their father returned, though she had noticed the disappointed look on both their faces. Riya hated seeing that look. Still, she needed to run into town and get some things from the healer.
Which led to her now walking through the door, the bell above it giving a small jingle to alert the healer that someone had entered. Riya had gotten very used to that sound over the years since Reaghan’s accident. She stopped by the healers on the regular to make sure she had things to keep her son healthy and deal with any cold related illness he might get in the process.
“Hello.” She called out despite the bell giving voice to her presence.
“Oh. Riya? Is that you?” The older woman called from the back office.
“Yes. I’ve just come to get a few herbs.” She often made a tea for both boys to support their immune systems.
There was a bit of noise from the back before the healer came out, wiping her hands on the apron about her waist. With a comforting smile she approached the ice woman. “Do you need more of the tea mixture then?” She was used to Riya stopping in more frequently for that one so she just assumed that was what it was she needed.
“Yes. I still have the other things.” She nodded to confirm her own words. “Though I was wondering if there was another flavor for the tea? The boys are getting tired of it.” Not that she could blame them. Sometimes her overbearing nature caused her to give it to them multiple times a day.
“I can add a new ingredient for flavor if you’d like.” There was a nod from her as she moved over to the shelves along the far wall. From there she started gathering jars and setting them on the counter so she could prepare the order that her customer requested. It took some time but soon enough she had everything together and in a small satin pouch. Even with the added one for flavor. “Here we go. The boys should like this. Its got a fruity flavor so it tastes sweeter.”
While the woman worked Riya had looked around, as she usually did, and was once again amazed by the fact that there were so many herbs available. Not all of them were able to be grown in Zena so she knew they had to be imported from other territories. When the healer said she was finished she turned to look at the woman with a smile.
“Thank you so much.” The ice woman moved over and handed the healer the payment for it all. “I will see you again next time I stop by.”
“I look forward to it. Maybe bring the boys next time. They might enjoy picking out their own flavors.” It was a simple suggestion to help the mother.
“That might be a fun trip.” She took the pouch with her order in it and waved at the woman as she turned to head back out the door. Overall her visit had taken less an than hour but she still needed to walk back home and it was getting cold out.
“Goodbye Riya.” The healer waved at her as she left even though the woman had her back toward her.
“Goodbye and thanks again.” She opened the door, setting off the bell with a few jingles, and stepped out into the cold. She gave a soft shiver at the temperature change, hugged her fur lined coat tighter to her person, and continued on. The door shut behind her and she heard the faint sound of the bell again but paid it no mind as she set off to go back home.

Due to the weather being awful Riya had to stay home. There was no archery class or even a hunt for her to go on unless she wanted to freeze in the process. And that was beneficial to no one really. Riya had made sure the boys were inside and would stay inside, though they had protested rather loudly. Poor Eriex had even whined about being stuck in the house. Of course they understood when they saw the snow falling heavily from the sky. Unfortunately Ergon had had to go in to work. The shop needed someone to run it. Today would likely be a good day for sales as people would come out to get essentials before they got snowed in.
The boys were back in the confines of their room likely playing some type of game, which left Iriyana to her own devices. Not that she minded. The fireplace had a decent fire going to keep the place warm and she’d made a pot of tea for everyone to drink to keep themselves warmed up from the inside.
Now she stood by the window, mug in hand to keep her fingers warm, and watched as the thick fluffy snow fell to the ground. While it was certainly chilly, Riya did enjoy watching the snow fall. It was peaceful in a way. Silent as it fell and harmless for the most part. Or at least in small doses. She was very well aware of the dangers heavy snow fall could pose.
She lifted her mug to her lips, blew on the steaming liquid inside, and took a small sip. It was flavored with honey to give it a sweetness and the rich flavor was nice. A smile formed on her lips as she thought about how to spend the evening once Ergon got home. She figured he’d be a bit late due to the weather and she guessed he might even want a hot bath to relax in. She’d have to keep an eye on the time and be sure to have it ready for him when he walked through the door.
Her plans for dinner had already been made and she was curing the meat now. A light salt brine with some herbs for added flavor as well as vegetables that her wonderful husband had brought home the previous day. Indeed, she figured this would be a wonderful day despite the weather doing its nasty little thing.
