Reaghan 1
While he’d had planned to go to his father’s store things did not work out that way. He’d gotten distracted on the way there and in the process ended up hurt. Nothing too bad but he definitely was going to have a swollen lip later. ANd his clothing was ruined by having been knocked onto the ground. He’d gotten a little wet as well. And since he knew how both his parents were he had opted to return home so he could change.

She was busy with a bit of cleaning when she heard the door open up. If she remembered right she had only just sent her son out to the store so why was he back so soon? “Reaghan? Eirex?” There was a chance that it wasn’t Reaghan who had come through the door but his brother, so she called out both names to see which one answered.

When his mother called out his name as well as his twin’s he cringed a bit. He had hoped to get away without her knowing he had returned so soon. “Yeah..” It wasn’t like he could ignore her, she’d clearly heard the door open. “Just me.” Since their voices were different he expected her to know which twin he was.

Hearing the voice was enough to know which of her sons is was. However, she had just agreed to let him go to the store. So she set her cleaning stuff down and walked toward where she had heard his voice. “Why are you back already. There’s no way you made it to the store yet.” She had it timed. Riya knew just how long it took the kids to reach the store. “Sweetheart?”

As her voice got closer he sighed. There would be no hiding his swollen lip from her anyways. So he turned to look at her. “I didn’t make it there.” He couldn’t lie either. Since his dad worked there he could easily say whether or not Reaghan had walked in. “I need to change my clothes though, they got wet.” While it hadn’t soaked through just yet it eventually would and that would be too cold to wear.

When he turned to look at her she noticed the swollen state of his lower lip and she gave a small gasp. Instantly she moved forward and grabbed his head so she could turn it to the side and give her a better view. “Reaghan, sweetie, what happened?” If she didn’t know any better she would say he’d gotten into a fight, but she was sure her son wouldn’t do that.

He made a face as his mother grabbed hold of him for inspection. A groan soon followed as she asked him what happened. “Nothing.” He tried to move his head out of her hands. “Don’t worry about it.” If he could brush this off then he could go change and then put it behind him. It wasn’t like he wanted everyone to know. Though it was likely to spread around in rumors.

“Nothing?” She let go of his face but her hands went to her hips. “Reaghan, your lip is swollen. That is not nothing.” She could tell that her son clearly did not want to tell her what had gone down in the time he’d left the house til the time he walked back into it. “Do I need to go talk to your father?” Perhaps someone saw something?

He groaned even louder this time. “Mom.” It was no use though. She was going to find out either way. “It was a small fight.” He shrugged his shoulders a little and turned his head so that he might start to head to his room and find a change of clothes. He knew he had another set almost identical to what he had on somewhere.

“Excuse me?” A fight? Just who would her son be fighting with? One of the town children? She didn’t think that likely. THough she guess one of them might think they could be a bully to him. “With who?” Now she wanted to know. It seemed she would need to have a discussion with the child's parents.

“Some hybrid girl..” He mumbled. “She’s not from here.” His eyes looked to the side so that he could avoid eye contact with her. His dislike of hybrids had already been discussed once. Or twice. He had no problem with his cousins, though he couldn’t seem to explain why. “Its fine though.” He looked at his mother to see if she was going to drop it.

When he told her that it was a hybrid girl, though his voice was low, she started to go through the children of the town. As he then said she wasn’t from their area she blinked. So a newcomer had done this? Was it to prove she was tough? To pick on a sickly boy was no way to prove anything. “Its not fine. I’ll have to speak with her parents and make sure she doesn’t do it again.” Riya was adamant.

“Mom no.” He insisted. “Its not that big a deal.” He was getting frustrated with her wanting to try to fix it. “I said some mean things and she just reacted.” He finally spit out. “Its fine.” He brought a hand up to touch his lip, a wince forming when he felt how sore it was. “It’ll go away in a few days.” Or at least he hoped it would. And he worried about what his brother would say about it once he saw it.

She blinked as he said it was he who had said some things that caused the girl to react. She couldn’t think of anything that would make a girl want to swing on him other than something regarding her hybrid nature. So she sighed and brought a hand up to pinch the bridge of her nose. “What did you say to her?”

“I told her to go back to where she came from.” His voice had gotten soft as he lowered his gaze to the floor. He kicked at the floor with the tip of his toes. “If she even knew where that was.” Hearing it now, in front of his mother, made him see that it hadn’t been the bes thing to say. It held a mean tone to it and if someone had said it to him he would likely have done what the girl had done.
