Steele Moore

Possibly it was one of the stupider things he had done.

Possibly. Maybe. It couldn't quite beat the time that Steele and Rob had gone on that joyride the wrong way down a highway because both of them had maybe been a little drunk at three in the morning and ended up snoozing on the side of the road until morning.

But, well. That had been in the past. This was here and now, and Steele was relatively certain that this was a stupid situation for himself to have gotten into.

For one thing, he was wearing a staggeringly expensive suit that had cost him an exorbitant amount of money (much to his partner's exasperation) and if he ruined the expertly stitched silk, he was going to be really, really upset, like even more upset than when he'd lost out on that Mewtwo. And for another thing, Steele was not Lieutenant Alabaster here.

He was just himself. And while that was still pretty damn awesome, it was sort of useless.

Not that anyone needed to know that. Which they absolutely did not.

Well, worst case scenario, he'd run into someone he knew, and that would be bad. Best case scenario, he'd get an actual case out of it, because of course after this there would be lawsuits, and then Steele would sweep in with his card and all would be well.

In the meantime, he snatched up a bottle and threw it at the creature, with all the practiced aim of a hippo dressed as a ballet dancer in the water.

No one said Steele Moore was athletic.

Lorne Benoit

After a truly miserable series of days full of snapping at the people he cared about, basically no sleep, and one well placed punch to a certain someone’s face (not unmerited, but none the less) - frankly a glowing map on a card was a more appealing option than another doctor trying to prescribe sleeping pills or supplements or whatever. So given a chance, when magic pricked, Lorne followed.

And you know what? Horrifying nightmare fuel monster aside, this really hadn’t been the worst decision he’d ever made. Yes, he might get eaten or mauled, but at least he wasn’t angry anymore, thank god. It’d slipped right out of him like water, and then it was gone, and in that moment, he knew at least none of that had been HIM.

Maybe his priorities weren’t exactly straight, but he’d much rather be in danger physically than continue losing himself to whatever this was.

A bit awkwardly (because even feeling better, it didn’t do much for being exhausted from all those sleepless nights), Lorne reached for one of the bottles and lobbed it at the creature with a grunt of effort.

Austen Stella Rue

For someone as cheerful and level headed and excitable as Austen was on a daily basis, it was almost entirely not in her nature to be grumpy. And she had been outrageously (and a little pathetically) grumpy these last several hours in particular, to the point where Blue had finally thrown her out of the shop to "go and do something productive with her life instead of tossing her s**t around at people."

So she'd stomped off in a huff, came home, found the package on her doorstep, and now she was here.

With a monster.

It probably shouldn't have been surprising, but it still did feel a little strange to actually understand - and accept - that there were monsters in the world. Austen wore a Godzilla nightshirt to bed on a practically daily basis, and therefore was more than a little excited to learn about monsters. She was less excited to learn that most of these monsters were products of the Negaverse and would, in fact, kill her if she got too close to them.

It was annoying. But she'd make do. And she wasn't grumpy anymore, which was nice.

In the meantime, flipping her white braids out of her face, Austen leapt upwards, snatching at some of the wires in an effort to maybe pull some of them down. Her eyes caught and snagged on a black haired young man a few feet away, and Austen let out a whoop of glee.

"Lorne! Oy, Lorne!"

She didn't really know him, but she'd seen him, and she'd spoken to Fritz about him. Austen waved an enthusiastic hand.

"Oy there! You're Fritz's flatmate, aren't you?"

Julian Laurence

Julian hated fighting.

He was not opposed to other people fighting, even if he viewed it as both unproductive and barbaric - but he was absolutely opposed to fighting himself, because it seemed ludicrous to do anything that might damage his hands, and Julian's hands were his life.

He was not even entirely sure how he had gotten here in the first place, come to think of it. And if he thought too hard about it, then he got more irritated than he already had been for most of the day, Julian's pale brows furrowed in annoyance as he stared up at the thing in front of them.

There were others here; he ignored most of them with little to no effort, because that was what Julian was best at - being alone and doing things that he could without the need for help or advice from anyone else. Most people didn't know what they were talking about, anyway.

He stepped back, squinting around the place, and nearly knocked into a dark haired young man who was lobbing a bottle at the...whatever it was. Creature. Thing.

"Beg your pardon," said Julian stiffly, righting himself. "It's crowded in here."

There might have been a little blush when the dark haired man glanced at Julian, but he just as quickly glanced away and murmured “Not at all, it is a bit. Too many dang people.” He murmured.

“You alright?” He added, trying rather hard not to scratch at his arm.

He didn’t wait to see if his first lob hit, but instead started examining the shelves to see if he could find one that seemed particularly good, he kept a wary eye as best he could on the monster.

Julian Laurence

There were too many people. Too many people, too many monsters, in spite of the fact that there was only one currently in the room. Julian gave it an annoyed look, as though this was merely an inconvenience, rather than an all out fight, before glancing back at the other man, who was looking a little nervous.

Or maybe that was just how his face was. Julian was not exactly the most well versed in reading people.

"Fine," he said, scowling back over at the creature, an unhappy look on his face. "Just delightful." It was practically dripping with sarcasm. He added, in an irritated sounding voice, "Really, this is so stupid. Why are we even here? Why do things like this even exist in this world?"

He could have been doing other things right about now. Like practicing.

Two new kids, his own kids no less, and both had decided in lie of their mother, they wanted no one but Elzo was determined to be a good father to Andino and Shealin. They gave him a purpose beyond himself, beyond his duty as a prince. They grounded him- and he wanted to be there for them.
Just why he tried so hard to keep his work life, his human life, separate and far from his work as royal as possible. Funny how that never seemed to work out.

Mojolnir had vanished, but he felt that she was in her way, safe and would contact him if she needed to. She was giving perhaps too much so- and he knew his faults. He was a patient man. The children where his and he knew her heart she'd not abandon them, not without reason. But his lover aside, Elzo was plagued more than usual by the ambient feeling he'd gotten involved in something again.
Even slimy business men didn't have cards that turned to maps after all. A quick call to Marlo- it was his turn after all to play investigative, so the younger of the Xanis men would stay watch over their children, while the elder would go and try to find some answers. Just so, the answers Elzo sought he doubted he would enjoy.

Too many people, too much noise and notice to 'spread his wings'. Metaphorically and physically if he'd wanted to. Figured though. Get the babies their first pumpkin and it's got something going on with it. Ah well, at least he hadn't let Andino try to gum on it.

Like fish or pigs being led to a holding pen, Elzo got the feeling perhaps he was in over his head with this one.
the card catching fire was a pretty telling sign to be honest.
"Well s**t."

And then there was a monster.
"Double s**t."

It was a scramble but Elzo was a senshi and what were senshi but opportunistic fighters. Years of getting to scraps- first at Hillworth, then against murderous agents and later with generals and their kings did have one payoff.
Knowing that when it doubt, punch it out.

(He got the pumpkin and note, experienced all the fun of that, and is now here.)

Glen Michaels

Glen rubbed his arms, in his messed up state he had managed to gain enough lucidity to bandage and cover the sores he had developed in salve, God help him he wasn't missing classes for this dammit. The bandages paid off, preventing him scratching though leaving him more of a wreck, only sated when he followed the directions in the card, only to want to pull his hair out when he realized he was in another damn trap. Great, frigging great. And he was surrounded, there was a monster and he could barely tolerate the noises of irritable complaining he could hear. He groaned in frustration and clenched his fist, resisting that all too familiar urge to punch something. There was a monster up ahead, and it seemed other people were beating that up. Huh, maybe he could join them.

The monster's eyes snapped around the room, as if it was alarmed that these things, these tiny, human things could attack it in such a way. That they did not tremble in its presence, that they did not perish in fear.

It was being pelted with strange liquids, beaten with tools.

And yet, the creature stood tall. Taller, even, as it raised on its hind legs. It peered down at the humans--tiny, miserable creatures that they were--and the fur on its nape bristled. Like hackles raised, the tuft of fur at first seemed nothing more than a visual representation of how riled the creature had become.

Except, something glistened in the fur.

Like long, silvery needles, its fur raised. With a wretches howl, it shook it's head violently and a shiver overtook its whole body. The quills shot at unparalleled speed towards the group below, piercing and skewing and impaling everything they landed on. Sharp spikes stuck out of the wall and the bottles on the shelves shattered, collapsing in a heap behind the group.

The creature let out another deafening howl, but even after that it was not done. It dropped back to all fours, kicking at the humans closest to it, at the ones who attacked it straight on. It was a creature of flesh and blood, despite its abnormalities and mass. When beaten, it bled, though the humans did not seem to have such brute force to take it down. The debris--the crow bars, the chairs, the bats, at first they did nothing. At first, it was like striking a thick tree.

Only, a few solid hits in, its skin began to bubble and twist, like each blow had instigated some sick growth beneath the flesh. It warped at immense speeds, swelling and oozing and--

Bursting.

A strange liquid splattered everyone nearby, but that wasn't the only aroma that filled the room.

The mixture of all the bottles was slowly pooling together; the creature was covered in smatterings of strange liquids, and parts of its body seemed to be morphing in odd ways. Maybe its tender skin was by fault of the bottles, or maybe it was some trick, but it wasn't immediately clear if the bottles had helped or hurt.

Small horns began to grow out of it in some locations. Bushels of feathers in others. In some regions, it's fur melted right off, exposing grotesque, pale skin and then the muscle below.

The monster was in pain and reeled, tramping the ground below it as if that would stop the pain. It snapped at the air, it thrashed its tail.

It helped shake the foundation.

The dangling wires were not all easy to grab, but tugging on them tore a few good planks from the ceiling. They fell to the ground below, a few smacking the beast on the way down and a few falling towards the scattered group. Worrisome, more so than the thread of the ceiling collapsing on them, was the distant sparks that seemed to have come to life with some of the tugs.

...Those wires might not all have been dead.

The fumes from the potions in the back of the room began to waft, affecting those nearest to it first and slowly spreading across the room. It smelled like sulfer--nauseating and disorienting.

The creature did not seem disturbed by the smell, but that wasn't the frightening part.

The frightening part was how small flames began to erupt and extinguish around some of the electrical wires.

Oh--that, and the fact that the creature's mane was growing again, and it seemed to be preparing another onslaught of quills.

Quote:
You can choose to have your character struck by any of the foot long, metal quills the monster shook if you like!

Those who attacked the creature with brute force will now find themselves splattered with a repulsive, oily liquid. It is clear and smells like rotting food and sticks to you like tar. If it gets into your eyes, you are temporarily blinded and no matter what you do, you cannot remove it. If it clogs your your nose or mouth, you will find it incredibly difficult to claw off and may damage yourself in the process. The liquid clings to clothes and immediately causes agitation. It can burn up to second degree burns at player discretion and can melt through clothes if you get a concentrated burst.

Those who threw potions are closest to the wall of them and will find themselves most affected by the toxic fumes. Inhaling these cause you to see doubles; it affects your vision and triggers a strange wave of anxiety. Your allies may morph and appear to be hideous creatures, and you may lose the ability to distinguish reality.

Those who tugged at the wires may find themselves on the receiving end of falling debris or strange electric bursts. These jolts cause you to hallucinate strange, glowing green orbs that hover across the room. When you blink, you see their shadows, but if you keep your eyes open for long enough they seem to hurl themselves at you. When hit, you find yourself jostled by the phantom shoves and, with each contact, a deep, menacing rage blossoms. You may find yourself overcome with a desire to do harm--to anyone. To the monster, to your allies, to yourself. It doesn't matter who bleeds, just that someone does.

THOUGH YOUR CHOICES IN THE PREVIOUS PROMPT AFFECT WHAT SIDE EFFECTS YOU ARE MORE PRONE TO, at your discretion you can take any of the side effects from other prompts and play with them!

New players are free to join, but you must handwave that your character was here from the beginning! The next post will come at roughly 8PM EST!

Jessie was ENTIRELUY unpohased by how strong it seemed -- she was bloodthirsty -- eager to kill it and, possibly, whomever sent it at them. The woman hissed, baring teeth momentarily before moving to shield herself,m almost air-like as she evaded the shower of quills. She was lucky, in that the liquid splatter zone was thus inches away while she danced the dodging dsance between tryuing to break the bones on it's body, but the agitation from the droplets...

Made her grin.

Ah, pasin. so it was real and it thought pain was a derterrant. Jerssie laughed again, swinging back to swipe and lunge--

And caught sight of a mop of blue hair and moved, rushing to defend that preciousw mop. That was her employee and her not adopted officially but still well adored chosen brother, and Jessie charged, skidding to spin next to Owen proiterctively,m her eyes flashing with renewed malice.

"HiOwen." Jessie greeted breifly, and then growled, teeth baring. "You down to help me brutally slaughter this weak a** piece of s**t?"

A vicious grin.

"Because it seems to think pain stops me.

She had hit it... Seren was proud of herself for that... but it seemed to grow, and oh gods the spikes that were coming out... She screamed hard, because one of the spikes hit her, piercing through the thick flesh of her upper thigh. It hurt like hell, like the third lash of a belt on the same stretch of bare skin in less then thirty seconds level of pain. She fell back...

And it was after this that she noticed the black oily substance, on her arms. She controlled the urge to scream again as it burned... It hurt, horribly, but after the initial shock of pain, she forced herself to hold in all reactions. Her face went from twisting with pain to emotionless and blank, her eyes showing nothing to the world at large. Screams only pleased the ones who liked to make other people hurt, and she wasn't going to give the ******** behind this, whoever they were, the satisfaction of hearing more from her.

She took a deep breath, clinging to her weapon with one hand, and examined the wound with the quill in it for a moment. It was somewhat deep, but it missed any major veins, and it... She stared at it, then began to rip her shirt's bottom off, leaving just enough of it for decency. First, she yanked out the quill, and tied it to her Metal Bar, at the end she was swinging with, using some of the shirt pieces, then used the rest of the cloth to bind the wound for now.

Then she turned and stared at the ******** monster. She lifted her bar before her, like an spear, and stabbed with it, HARD, at the beast.

Bindhi Coryn

Okay, Bindhi could not have predicted the... the monster, demon, whatever being able to grow and launch metal spines. Only through sheerest luck had she avoided being struck. Though the smells accompanying the thing's retaliatory attack was nearly so easy to avoid.

Gagging slightly, she kept tugging on the wires she'd found until bits of ceiling rained down on her. But even that would have hardly been enough to stop her. Unlike the very sudden and painful jolt from the wires themselves. Releasing the wires, she shook her hands and head as funny little green orbs filled her vision. Blinking furiously, she was quick to note that they had shadows. So... probably not just an optical side effect of the shock she'd gotten. Watching one intently, she jumped as it suddenly seemed to throw itself at her. Even weirder was that she could feel it hit. She felt as if someone had given her a strong shove. Within a few moments, she felt more shoves and each one made her angrier than the last.

Before long, Bindhi's vision was red-tinted as a blood-thirsty rage took over. She wanted blood. She wanted to see people hurt. Hell, she felt a tiny stirring of glee at the thought of hurting someone or something else. And the more that desire made itself known, the more she was caught in a feedback loop of rage and deep-seated need to see the blood flow and feel flesh tear apart under her bare hands.

Tear them all to bits.

Rhona Lee
Something hit Rhona with stunning force, knocking her backwards and into shocked stillness for one moment. It was only when she raised her arm to lash out again that the moment passed and she realized what had happened. The monster had returned fire in the form of wicked projectiles, and she now had a long metal quill now sticking out of her right shoulder, just above her clavicle. Pain throbbed through her right arm, rendering it useless which only served to ignite Rhona's rage even further.

She was a wildfire. Blind and burning with untempered fury as she lunged forward, the bar now heavy and uncertain in her unused left hand. She only got one blow in before she was hit with a second attack.

The smell hit her first, a noxious scent that caused her stomach to contract painfully around itself. She had never smelled the dead, but she figured that was pretty close to what they would smell like. She tried to claw it off, tried to clean herself of the horrible smell, but all she did was come away with bloody fingernails. Was that pain the feeling of new gashes on her flesh or something else? No... it was two distinct sensations. The feeling of pain along the lines her nails had left was from the tearing of delicate skin. She could feel the warm ooze of blood that signaled that. But there was still another sensation... one of burning.

She was burning.

No wait. She wasn't burning. She was being burned. Rhona forced herself to focus on a patch of skin on her arm covered in toxic slime and watched the skin beneath bubble and twist.

Amaryllis and Aurora St Grey

Both sisters paused to glare at their brother before the monster drew their attention back. And just in time too. They watched in horror as the monster reared back and attacked. Watched as the spikes flew at them. Watched as the spikes impaled each other.

Imagi was the first to cry out, bone-deep fear mingled with pain not yet felt as she grabbed her right wrist, a spike driven straight through that same hand. Aura was about to help her sister when she stepped and fell, her weight bearing leg suddenly unable to keep her up. Her matched Imagi's cries when she looked at her thigh and noticed two spikes lodged deep in the muscle. Imagi turned her attention to her fallen sister, horror written on her face as she watched Aura go down.

Oh god, she thought. Oh god she's dead. Aura did dead and she died condemned when I had the chance to forgive her.

Except that Aura wasn't dead. She was still screaming and holding her own leg.

"This is all your <******** fault," Aura finally hissed, trying to yank the quills from their ports only to snap one off, losing the base in the meat of her thigh. "You were supposed to stay in the house. You were supposed to be in bed getting better. You were supposed -- "

Imagi had listened with growing anxiety to her sister's accusations, the fear of losing her all but eliminated with the blame Aura placed on her. Imagi's eyes felt too hot. Everything was spinning. Everything was too close. She tried to clench her hands into fists but the fingers of her right hand refused to obey, the nerves severed and damaged by the quill in her hand.

"You wanna know what we've been fighting about," Aura finally hissed, pulling herself up with the wire with which she'd been trying to bring down the roof. "you wanna know big brother? Fine."

"Aura, no," Imagi whimpered, backing away. Away from them. Away from the fumes that were addling her brain and making thought too hard.

"That b***h is punishing me. Punishing me for something that was never my fault. And I have been trying to repent."

"Aura, please."

Aura didn't hear her sister. The wire sent jolts through her body that made her muscles jump and twist. Boards fell around her, pelting her with splintered wood and rusted nails, each leaving thin red lines along her skin but she didn't care. Each spark of pain only propelled her forward. Towards her shrinking sister. What right did Imagi even have to be afraid? This was what she wanted, right? To punish. To subjugate? To diminish and destroy? Well Aura was done. She was done feeling like s**t, and she'd pay it back to her dear sister.

"I have prostrated myself in front of you, Aurora," she hissed, swinging the suddenly live wire at Imagi, "I have bled for your forgiveness. Cried out for it in the night. And for what? More <********> admoniton."

"Aura please... please they'll hear you..." Because Alphonse wasn't with them anymore. He was gone, and all that was left was the slender smirking figure of General Loctite looming before her. The woman grinned at her and Imagi could feel her arm in her chest again.

Little Lamb.

She felt the words more than heard them.

"Who, Imagi? Who is going to hear us," Aura demanded, grabbing the spike in her sister's hand and yanking painfully. "No one. No one will hear our sins except you and me. Admit to me that you enjoy it."

"No," Imagi whimpered, the pain in her hand as deafening as the fear that raged through her. "No Aura, it hurts so much."

"Admit to me that you enjoy tortureing me! That you never planned to forgive me."

"THEN ADMIT THAT YOU FAILED ME," the shriek nearly ripped Aura in two and caused Aura to step back, releasing the spike as though it burned her. "THEN ADMIT THAT YOU ALMOST LET ME DIE. ADMIT THAT YOU WOULD HAVE LET GENERAL LOCTITE TURN ME INTO A YOUMA TO SATISFY YOUR QUESTION."

The world stopped. Both twins stared at each other with crystal clarity, understanding suddenly exactly what was happening to the two of them.

"Admit to our brother," Imagi continued, her voice a deadly calm, "that you loved the senshi Holdtite more than you loved me."

Aura glanced at Alphonse then, her lips hanging open in shock, and only stared at him. Her voice paralyzed with shame.

"I thought so," Imagi finally murmured, turning her back on Aura. "Until you can admit what you have done, I refuse to forgive you."

Paris Gallo

Gallos were like cockroaches: they came out of nowhere, and where there was one, there were always more.

Peter!” Paris shouted.

What was that idiot doing, blocking her near perfect swing? Being even more of an idiot than a Gallo is on the regular, apparently. Paris goggled at him stupidly, pulling back from her attack and stepping away just enough that they wouldn’t remain in the line of fire.

“Peter, I am not going to help you save this thing,” she ranted. “I don’t care what it is. We were lured here, which means someone meant to harm all these people.”

Another voice shouted for Peter. Paris glanced in that direction just long enough to regard the figure as another Gallo, before the creature retaliated.

It happened in seconds. Perhaps it was a good thing that Paris didn’t land a hit after all, because it meant she was just far enough away from the creature that she could duck for cover before any of the long, silver projectiles struck any of her vulnerable areas. One nicked her arm through her sleeve, but she was unharmed otherwise. She avoided the kicks, too, grabbing for Peter to yank him out of the way with surprising strength for someone as tiny and thin as she was.

The oily liquid was another story. A glob of it splattered her shoulder. Another doused her thigh. Fortunately, she was wearing jeans and a nice coat, so she was saved from any ill effects, except that her coat was probably ruined. The liquid smelled awful, worse than a shitty diaper, and Paris had dealt with many shitty diapers over the last three years.

“Ugh,” was her only complaint. She took stock of herself, she took stock of Peter, she searched around for that other Gallo, and she tried to find her cousin again in all the madness. “Rhiannon! Maybe leave the wires alone!”

This place was going to fall apart or catch on fire, or they were going to die from toxic fumes, or the creature would trample or needle them to death.

Just another ordinary day in Destiny City.
