Melanie Du Coteau Sacred Gear:Vritra's Tail: Devil's spine.
Stealthy, strong, long reach and flexible. The black dragon's tail was one of it's many deadly assets. The tail itself is a wonderful yet terrible weapon. You see, the tail feeds on the host's spine until it completely devours it and takes it place. This not only grants the bearer full use and potential of this gear, but if the tail breaks... well you may get an Idea of that would happen to your body.
It it said that the tail holds a personality of it's own, vicious and vindictive, it requires constant dotting and spoiling to keep it at bay. Legend tells Vritra made people squirm and screech their lifes out of their lungs to ease it's tail and lead it to a tranquil slumber.
The illusory form posed on her fours, as a predator ready to strike when Janus "took" her prey away from her. Part of Melanie's mind was lost within the tail's and so this form struggled what to do next. Freezing for a moment as the music faded. Once the music returned, the silhouette of the redhead was now possed against Janus, behind the g o d an illusory wall would appear behind her, leaving her now between the illusory form and the wall. But, without enough fuel to keep the drive on for much longer, the form would start to shatter, eventually revealing Melanie who fell against Janus. Her breath was fast and agitated, her eyes were wide open as if she hadn't slept in days, she was over come by her deepest desires as she confronted them in the darkness of that helm.
Her arms instinctively held around Janus's body, just as soon as Melanie realized it was her. She really needed a break, after all, she was just a newbie at this, and her mind was tricky, especially with that gear of hers. Illusions without control can easily overcome a fragile mind like Melanie's as it had been seen ever since they met her. From apathy, to lust, from lust to calmness, from calmness to love/frienship... then to sorrow, only to converge all of those stages in one single form, which entrapped her body for quite a descent amount of time.

"Wow, she's really fried." Alicia shook her head and nudged Janus to reply.
"Yeah, I don't know..." She thought about it for a moment as they waited for Yuri to come back. "Whenever I ask if this type of thing happened to Lamia when she first started, Lilith always changes the subject; but it's more of a 'that's not important' than a 'don't go there.'"
"Sounds rough. You didn't have to go through that, did you?"
"I don't know if I'd say that. Sure, going from human to demon is tough, but I had to learn illusions from scratch. I learned them when I was still a god, but that's beside the point; this isn't easy for anyone, especially not someone who--!"
At this moment Janus got a face-full of Melanie. She tensed up, thinking the tail would come for her soon, but this seemed to all melt into a more emotional display; the Succubus breaking in her arms.
"Melanie... Come on, now. You aren't done yet. You'll learn." She repeated that last phrase as she stroked her hair. She called up a bed and helped the redhead over to it. Alicia was savoring this moment of Janus actually giving a damn. Hm, maybe her trigger is emotions. That's weird. Humans...
"Awww!" Alicia exploded to annoy Janus. Janus glared back at her, but the demoness wouldn't stop giggling; until she saw how peaceful Melanie looked, that is. Soon Yuri would come over to rest with the young Succubus. This was just the right thing to set her off down the river of dreams; as if she hadn't been in such a place this entire time.

Melanie rested by the bed, eventually holding onto Yuri and curling up against her figure. With Janus away ( not near to hold on to ) Melanie tried to find someone to hold, to keep her safe. At the very least, being near Yuri was like having a clam tune at the moment, one that drifted her nightmares away.
As time passed down, Melanie would find herself on top of Yuri, her sleepy eyes slowly opening as she felt something soft beneath her.
"...."
She wished to react, but even her reflexes were sloppy. Feeling like her body was beaten up badly, and heavy. It was hard for her to move properly at the moment, none the less that didn't kept her from moving her eyes, and so she ventured her gaze to see what this place was. Last time she knew she was looking at Yuri, then the tail, then, it all went dark.
"What is this place?...who am I?"
She pondered to herself, her latest chatter with Yuri put Melanie into such an introspective mood.
"Fake... Reality.... Illusion..."
Those three words and idealisms kept running in circles on her head while she tried to get a grasp of her situation here. Often resulting in her daydreaming away. Unaware this would cause a cloud of thoughts, like an holographic bubble to appear above her head.
In there most of her thoughts were projected as images.
Setsukos's smile appeared... Melanie felt depth into this daydream
Then Lamia's "embarrassed" expression when Melanie was seducing her. Which made Melanie fluster.
Then there was Lilth, a kind smile which made even Melanie smile at the moment.
Then there was Janus, a kind smile like no other, it was warm, similar to Lilith's but, reachable. Melanie held onto Yuri fondly as she thought of Janus. She was like a mother to her... a big sister perhaps?
Alice soon appeared in the picture. Melanie appeared to be puzzled, images of Alice and Janus interacting together in various scenarios. One they were sisters, but it quickly fade away. Others like when they where just kids and happened to be friends or the time in which they became rivals where images that remained the entire time. She was curious at one last picture in which she imagined both of them in a relationship.
Then, Yuri. The redhead's fever would return, her breathing was slightly more agitated. It was like just thinking of her revived all what happened before she went onto bed.
The worst thing was that she was awake, and her thoughts were exposed by the illusion of a holographic bubble.

"You know it's not normal for someone to try illusions this soon," said Alicia in reference to what Melanie had invented for herself earlier.
"I don't think she was trying." Janus looked at Melanie and Yuri the way the moon looks at a lonely man's mind in the middle of a hot summer night.
"You know what I mean." The two watched her and Yuri become a heap of sleepiness and low electronic light before departing. They had business relating to the rest of the camp to deal with; plus, watching the two would just be creepy.
Yuri was enjoying her time of non-sleep, as she liked to call it; being that she was nocturnal and was considered, assumed, to be sleeping and therefor making her actions non-sleep by default. It mainly consisted of listening and occasionally editing music, eating, taking rides around her city--perhaps a misnomer or ambitious claim to the nature of her role here, especially in the wake of Janus' seizure of control away from her--checking in on various social media, looking for signs of affecting forces between this world and the other realms or even the other parts of Underworld, working on theorems, blogging, vlogging, wondering if anyone up there in Human World knew she wasn't one of them; you know, the usual. It really made her look pretentious, but she was curious as Melanie, and had an intellect to launch her search from.
Janus had discouraged these tendencies, but Yuri was compliant in that as she was understandable. She laid there, devices scattered around her and taking turns being used; on low light of course, wouldn't want to disturb Sleeping Beauty! The created soul also lowered the volume on her music, which had the effect of turning her translucent in the big suite. She was happily plugging away on her device when Melanie appeared to manifest again.
Really...? I thought she was done with that.
Looking into the cloud of subconscious, Yuri got a pretty good idea of what Melanie thought of her friends. She decided that it would be rude to keep watching, and when she turned away thought she didn't need to look to know what Melanie was dreaming of next as she felt the Succubus' temperature rise. But she did anyway, and saw an image of herself there with a slightly exaggerated figure. Cute, but this couldn't go on.
"Hey...! Wake up!" She nudged the Succubus in hopes of rescuing her from this destructive dream. "Come on, get up!" She whisper-yelled. Clearly, these two needed a good ol' girl talk session.

Yuri nudged onto her body as the redhead was slowly dragged back from her daydream. The redhead lowered her eyes a little while her arms did the best they could to lift her torso from Yuri. At first she felt confused as if not knowing how to react, but soon her cheeks would fluster, looking away but still not actually, getting off from her. "Sorry..." She managed to say with a weakened voice while the bubble of thoughts would slowly fade away. "Are...are you alright?" She asked concerned about Yuri's welfare, after all she kept having those nightmares in which she killed her, but she was relieved to see she was okay... but the thought that this very moment could be an illusion frightened her, therefore she was unsure if Yuri was truly safe. As such she needed constant reminders of it until Melanie felt more comfortable with that idea.

"Good." Yuri sat up and gave Melanie a smile. In that moment she liked the way she looked, vulnerable but going ahead with it anyway. It wasn't like she had a whole lot to fear per se, but she had had a tough day, everyone knew that, and to be able to look her in the eyes with any kind of dignity was a hope-inspiring leap of faith in and of itself.
Without so many pieces, the two images seemed rather analogous: her progress in magic and the way she cast herself off the cliffs of doubt in that aforementioned leap; and as it pertained to her mind the two seemed to be even more closely related. No matter what, Melanie didn't want to see Yuri or any of her family hurt, or their image, losing face, damaged--because apparently there is a need to that conservation in beings of illusions who have long ago accepted the mutability of their persona as their only saving grace--but I digress; this was the time in which Melanie lost her illusion simply for the fact she held so much stock in any given image, whether it be hers, Janus' implied stoicism, or Yuri's ever-changing facade. And for Melanie to worry about Yuri was extremely naive. To think, something could harm a lump of inert rock valenced by, if you must, equally inert lies!
"What? Oh, sure, I'm fine... Why?" Yuri took her hand and slid its silky fingers into the side of Melanie's hair through a secret passage near the ear, her fingernails a cool breeze in warm Indian Summer.
"You think you hurt me back there, don't you?" She said with something of incredulity in her voice. "Melanie... You can't hurt me." Now, this was the tricky part. In order for Yuri to tell her she was alright Yuri would have to tell her she wasn't real, that she'd began to fall for an illusion, an effing of her own fantasy; and invariably the words implied the other without even subterfuge to ease the hard landing into reality. That's why Yuri had something now related to worry on her face as she stroked the cheek of her kouhai with those incredibly real fake fingers.
Melanie Du Coteau Sacred Gear:Vritra's Tail: Devil's spine.
Stealthy, strong, long reach and flexible. The black dragon's tail was one of it's many deadly assets. The tail itself is a wonderful yet terrible weapon. Melanie flustered with a soft smile, Yuri told her she was just fine, even her finders would travel through her red mane in a rather comforting manner, emphasizing her welfare through physical contact. Then again, this was an illusory realm, or so she thought, so, even the warmth of Yuri's body could also be an illusion, a memento of what Melanie remembered of her. Which worried the redhead.
As Yuri asked if Melanie thought she had hurt Yuri, Melanie flustered even more as her face saddened and nodded. "I saw it... it was too real... then everything went dark." Melanie said while her hand reached for Yuri's lap, it was shivering, none the less it kept pressing itself gently against Yuri, as if trying to reassure she was there, and that she was fine. Yuri went once more and explained she was fine, this time by saying Melanie couldn't hurt her. Melanie stared at her confused. How would that be possible? This presented Melanie with 3 options, two of them she refused to believe.
1 The tail was an illusion, given how Melanie was also okay while the tail did get her before everything went black.
2 Yuri wasn't real, you can't harm what it's not there to begin with, but she refused to believe it, giving more credit to the first option. Even more as she felt her body next to hers.
3 Everything from the start was just an Illusion, it wasn't and would never be there...the only thing real would be Janus, and her. Which, she refused profoundly to believe, despite being the more reasonable option to go for.
However, her hand held onto Yuri just a little bit tighter, still not enough to harm her.
"How?... How is it possible?"
She wanted an explanation, everything in this world was hard to process for her naive and young mind. She was no longer a little girl to believe in fantasy and merely accept it as it's own wonderful expression of itself. She had sadly grown near Zoey, enough to remember the redhead destroy, every, single, one, of those fantasies.

"Too real, huh? Oh, poor baby..." Yuri's hand left Melanie's face to join her hand at the Moon's thigh. It quickly ate up the fair hand and held it in a way that said "listen carefully." Damnit... They didn't say she would fall for me. Agh! I don't wanna do this!
Yuri set her eyes on her device and took a quick deep breath as she thumbed the stop button on her iPod equivalent. This might make her vanish completely, and she thought of how long she'd been here, just waiting for something decisive to happen; and all those nights she spent alone lamenting her jealousy of people like Janus and others she studied for their dangerously exciting lives. A smile chuckle, then back to Melanie. "I guess I can't be coy... Watch closely; I'll only do this once." With that Yuri pushed the button to shut herself off. The music, which had been playing low and as a result made Yuri appear faint as it was, stopped altogether, and the ever-changing girl faded out to nothing just as the impulses of the last notes rung through Melanie's immediate memory. Now there was no one but the young Succubus; the moon above no longer shined its sweet silver into the apartment, and there was just a scattered assortment of forlorn electronics and take-out where there should have been a friend.

Shocked was the least one could tell to describe the redhead's reaction when she saw Yuri fade into nothing, leaving dust of songs as her fading memento before leaving Melanie alone in that room. Taking the music, the lights and Melanie's happiness with it.
"Why?..."
Was she right all this time? Yuri was fake from the very beginning? Was Yuri another type of life form? Whatever the case was. It was both saddening and comforting to know she couldn't harm her, since she never was there to be harmed to begin with.
Melanie whimpered in the silence of the room. The helmet crawled in from the shadows to devour her head, yet her body was expressive enough to know she was crying, loudly as she hit the bed with her hands multiple times.
But there was nothing to be heard, as the helm would conceal it for her.
Finally, after a while, the helmet faded. She wasn't angry any more, or sad, there wasn't even a trace of the tears she shed moments before the helmet took over her face.
Now, there was a cold neutrality in her eyes, even her body, her hand extended towards the device as she pressed the pause/play button once more, letting the music flow. After all, she couldn't stand the silence, not after all she had been through.

For several moments Melanie would have to sit in that profound clutter of nothingness; as it was so that all she would have to relate to would have to be now only through negation: Yuri should be here, one of us is real, I'm not dreaming, etc. The only thing that was certain from the beginning was that under all the laughs and jabs the girls all seemed to share a mycellial sorrow as there foundation: whether it be Janus' lament at losing her deity status, Lamia's over not being sad enough at losing her humanity; frivolous though it was; Lilith's eternal postpartum depression, or Alicia's gripping with being next in line; all had a reason to need to laugh; and Melanie seemed to be understanding this type of sorrow only the nine-to-fivers live with. It would become her new mask when that helmet of childish base instinct was too stifling, whenever she needed to get work done.
Music began playing again, but no Yuri. It was the oddest thing. Earlier when she took off one of her headphones the illusory idol was half disappeared; that part made sense, but it was an entirely different thing for her to never return once both ears stopped hearing the music. If that logic held up, she would be here now to laugh and play with whatever the night set before them, right? This was beyond, and perhaps she knew all along. Maybe that was why she only took one ear out. Who can say?
Just as it looked like Melanie would have to leave and tell Janus and Alicia, who took the only known route back, what happened here, a flicker of an image sparked across the screen of the MP3 player. It was quick, and probably looked like a malfunction at first, but it kept happening. Soon Melanie would be able to tell what was going on. Yuri was trying to come back.
Yuri was there. A miracle! And it looked like she was trying to say something. If Melanie put the headphones on she could hear her saying, "Hey... Hey! Janus told me you were crazy, but she didn't tell me anything about this!"

Melanie was troubled, yet her face didn't faded, instead, she reminded neutral, despite within her she wished for Yuri to be okay. But she had already shed all the tears she could within the helmet. As she observed the pod closer, she would see the screen would continue blinking constantly after turning it on. The more frequent it was, the more she grew curious of it, until curiosity put the girl on the right place and with the move of her hands, she put the headphones on, just to hear Yuri's voice once more. She was alive. Well, something like it.
"I'm sorry I've troubled you this far..."
It was all she could manage to answer to Yuri, after all she was both mentally and emotionally exhausted after leaving the helmet. Closing her eyes, she imagined Yuri's image, since the screen kept blinking. After she grasped some of her current features, the redhead focused on reviving that image on her head.
"I'm sure there has been a lot she hasn't told you about me... she's just, nice to me. A little to nice... maybe it was my fault for looking after her as a mother... I shouldn't had raised her weakest side."
She replied, feeling bad about possibly hurting Janus as well, but this new mask, was harder to get rid of than the helmet.

"Too nice? Oh, I see..." She couldn't have been more blind if she were Janus herself. Yuri found remorse one of the more interesting human emotions; remorse at accepting the kindness requested from friends was a completely different level.
"Hey, I'm not sure I like what I'm hearing!" Yuri wagged her finger through the screen. She was about to rail on Melanie, but instead the fact she was still in the MP3 player caught her attention. "Um... Can you, like, let me out?"

"Right, now, if you could be kind enough to tell me how would I achieve that, I would appreciate it dear." Melanie replied calmly, but she was rather distant from, pretty much anyone. How long did she spend crying herself out in that helm was actually relative to this illusionary dimension itself, while it only looked like 10 minutes could had been an eternity within that helm. None the less, she would do whatever she was asked to help Yuri pop out from that device. After all she still cared for her, just... with less passion. Rather adopting or forcing herself to adopt a more mature and rational posture because of this new mask of hers.

What the heck is her deal? Is she mad at me? Bob Sagget, she's just like the rest of them now!
"The board there," Yuri said gesturing to a soundboard near the coffee table. "There's a jack there that says 'Master.' Plug the player in using the adapter." There was an old-looking adapter somewhere amid all the electronics that looked like it hadn't been used in a long time. Just what was going on here was still a mystery, but at least there was the semblance of unraveling to keep Melanie going. She seemed so listless now...
As soon as Melanie plugged in the player there would be a tranquil sound fluttering through the room. And Yuri would appear again, same as always.

Nodding in understanding, Melanie walked by the room looking for the infamous jack port, which, upon sighting, Melanie made sure to plug the pod and follow Yuri's instructions. As she did, the next thing she knew, the music would play once more outside from the earphones and just like nothing happened, Yuri was there to be seen once more. As she did this, Melanie smiled, but only for a brief moment, as her smile died, she replied. "Don't ever, do that again...I don't care if we have to take a longer way, I'll be patient... just, don't do this to me again." Melanie looked at Yuri dead in the eye as she said this, she scared the hell out of the unstable redhead, and she wasn't willing to go through all that again.
