Inadequate light aside, it seemed others were either attempting to blockade the door or load the ballistas. A good offense also meant a good defense (at least to Jake), so he opted to help out in moving the ammo.

Ri was just coming back from her quest when it happened. The ground shook... people were screaming and running... chaos. She froze in place, struck with panic. 'What do I do? What do I do??!'
And then a beacon of hope: a Great Knight dressed in blue. The knight she swore fealty to. He was protecting, just like she was supposed to be doing. Immediately, she sprang into action, grabbing a piece of cloth off of her bag and attempting to make a torch from it. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
After a few tries, she gave up and instead went running to the rest of the defenders, where she found...
"Estel! Please, I can't get it to work." Ri held up her pitiful torch in response.

Confirming that the first ballista had, indeed, been carried to its proper place; Ezekyhel takes it upon himself to grab the second... and, realizing rather abruptly just how heavy the damned thing is; he doesn't make it far before having to hand it off to the next knight apprentice in line.

Thankfully, he didn't ask her many questions. Or say much of anything really. With her torch lit, she ran to help load the next ballista, doing her best to drag the massive thing from one apprentice-knight to the next.

The world shook something fierce, spilling almost all of Alexei's ale and mead. The man was not pleased, but there was very little time to get angry. There was a scraping sound, then there was a near explosion, and then-
Darkness. The whole sky and the whole world was darkness. That was why he'd come to Camelot. To fight this darkness, not to just drink and be merry.
He ran to the ramparts and looked down, seeing the twisted things that were glowering at them, eyes hungry for the blood of the knights. He barely kept himself from spilling a flagon of ale on them, because he realized the ale could be used for something better - light.
Alexei took a leg of a chair and a ratty old piece of cloth, then dunked them in the little remaining swill he had left. There were no matches on his person, though, so he had to find someone else - yes, she would do.
He ran to the black haired girl and held his torch out to her, smiling brightly. "Care to share, m'lady?"

Ollie wasn't slow, but he was well behind Ezekyhel bursting onto the scene -- and, in the midst of the commotion, he froze. It was dark, the world narrowed to the bobbing glow of torches here and there, and he struggled to make out faces behind the yellow flicker of the flame. At least he was quick on his feet, hopping from one to the next and struggling to put together his own makeshift bundle.
It wouldn't kindle. He grumbled and tried to catch someone's attention, to get them to light it, and it still wouldn't kindle.
And then the face next to him was familiar, Ezekyhel's, and Ollie huffed a breath out through his nose, casually reaching out to steal the man's torch. "You carry that, I'll carry this."
And maybe, just maybe, he could grab something small, too.

Catching his breath, it doesn't take Ezekyhel long to find where the ballista had ventured and- sadly- it wasn't very far from where he'd last seen it. He takes it from the lady apprentice, turning to carry it onwards and spotting, then, a familiar face among the flame and darkness.
Ollie takes his torch and, thankful for the help, Zeke gives him an approving grunt. "Thanks, boy." He says before handing the ballista off to the next in line and giving himself a minute to breathe. The work he was doing was hard, but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh boy, action! Jala was probably excited about this in all the wrong ways, but shaking buildings and sky falling apart meant ACTION. Of course, one couldn't get a party started with no light, so she should probably do something about that first.
It didn't take her long, and soon she had a nice hot flame on a stick. Nice.

Now that he could see (though the light was shoddy at best), the man began to run around and grab whatever her could, letting the others secure the ballista bolts. The door needed guarding - how could they hope to defeat the scourge waiting to bash in their door if they were attacked from the inside? No amount of healing could fix that.
He grabbed a hay bale in his haste, setting it down and realizing it was completely useless. Maybe some creature would trip over it.

Chris didn't wait after sharing the woman's flame, he just moved on to help move the next ballista shot. It was heavier than he'd anticipated, and he handed it off perhaps sooner than he should. But he was doing his part.

Someone was talking to her. oh god, someone was talking to her.
The girl let out a small noise, offered a tight and abrupt little nod, and held out her torch so forcefully she almost threw it at him by mistake. At least she managed to light his torch, and not his person.

"Light over here!" Estel shouted, raising her torch above her head and pausing in her ballista-dragging to light several torches - Dirge's, Abbi's, Chris's, Alexi's, and whoever else came close to her.
