"Pappila, please do not take her jealousy to heart," Aesculus merely mutters, somewhat glad that Rosa has appeared and that hopefully his hypocracy and illness will not be the forefront of what's being spoken about for a change.
Suddenly, though, the very air about him changes. Here Rosa was stepping into what he considered nearly sacred ground, and attacking two decent woman with her words. While he may not normally be bold, he was fueled by Cervus leaving matters into his hands and he stands tall, aggressive, his eyes cold and daring.
"Countess Rosa. Matters here were left in my hands, and I insist you desist from undermining my position in this court. If you simply can not tolerate my prescence, you are welcome to leave and try to take up matters with the king. We have more matters to tend to than your superfluous jealousy." He glares at her, his tiny frame now imposing and his voice more deep and strong than it has been before. Perhaps he didn't mind Rosa's petty harassment in private, but this is something he simply can't tolerate.

Rosa blinked at Aesculus once, before she snorted and had to cover her mouth with one dainty hand. Finnaly, she simply shook her head. "I wasent aware I had .. adressed you, Aesculus, nor.. 'undermined' you. Why do you insist on making such gigantic issues of every one of my little comments? Do they bother you so? I had hoped one.. as wise, advanced and well beyond my meer knowledge would have more... controll. Goodness knows nobody else makes complaints of my words. Do you prefer your women obedient and silent, dear Aesculus? And... I was hardly jealous. Infact, in some lights, my comments were perhaps flattering. It is simply a matter of perception, Aesculus. Silly, silly little boy." She shook her head and moved past him, walking twords Alces she stood aside him and gave him another smile before examining Papilia's wings. "Those are beautiful, dear." She stated somewhat absentmindedly.

Filix flushed slightly, that complement from Aesculus sending her bright red, and making her speechless for a few seconds. When she finally did manage to reply, she answered with a quiet, "Thank you Aesculus, I appreciate that a great deal."
Her mood swung back to normal again with the appearance of Rosa, and Filix just raised her eyebrows. "Please, Rosa. I say you have the physical beauty and pride of our mother, and you call that gossip? It's truth, and you know it."
Filix moved to stand next to Pappila then, watching Aesculus and Rosa. She was somewhat surprised, no one had ever spoken back to Rosa like that. She'd always assumed men were speechless around her because of Rosa's expert charms... but apparently, Aesculus was not? Filix hid a smile, deciding that she'd have to praise his words privately when Rosa wasn't around to threaten Filix with all kinds of torture involving combs, tweezers and silk dresses.

He turns on his heel to follow Rosa's movement, and his eyes harden. Perhaps it is because of her biting comments, perhaps because he doesn't want her to try to manipulate Pappila. Perhaps he just needs to make a stand. It is truly hard to be certain for no one has ever really truly pushed Aesculus this far.
Besides the twinkle in his eyes, it would be hard to tell this calm, collected youth was such a calculated man. "I prefer, Countess Rosa, that woman are honest and forthright. That you have proven you are not. Since you continue to mock me, I will go consult with the king. He had asked me to come to him if you seemed to forget your place in this court. If you can not show me respect and continue to make such rude comments in company, then that warrants his attention, don't you agree?"

Rosa blinked at Filix and shook her head, "You wouldent be able to live withyourself if you had my.... shallow outlook? Ah, trust me, you make it sound far more tedious. Aesculus, again you are wrong. I am perfectly honest. Infact, I daresay that is why we have problems. I simply state what I feel. Would you have me cease that? You do as you will, you make use what boyhood connections of yours as you see fit - but know this, and have it linger in the back of your pretty little head; I have never done anything but state what I truly believe. Do not mock honesty and claim you stand for it, when it is honesty in itself you persecute me for. Mock you? By heavens, what would ever make you think that?" She couldent help but bare a smile, before she shook her head and became serious. "Forgive me for interrupting your... moment, Papilia. I am, infact, trying to be civil, Aesculus. I admit some of my comments are unneccisary, yes, but I am only freshly an adult - you musent expect too much too soon. Even from me." She gave Aesculus what would be percieved as a warm smile as she leaned over and went to kiss Alces' cheek. "My friend, I beg a word with you in the future. Fare thee well." She sang happily as she started moving outwards again, moving slow enough that she may have the pleasure of hearing her nemisis' retort.

Pappila offers Rosa a polite smile in thanks for the compliment, as empty as she feels it is. "You are physically lovelier than I could ever hope to be, Lady Rosa," she replies honestly, not adding that she does not judge others based on such things. When addressing Rosa her voice is polite yet hollow, lacking its usual depth and warmth. She does not respect this Countess.
Then she turns and beams a bright grin over at Aesculus, a look which likely speaks far more in words of how proud she is of him for standing up for the others, not choosing to believe that she was one of those he was defending, as she feels she does not need such a champion, verbal or no.
She opts to change the subject, to help Aesculus to avoid a scene if she can. Best to keep these two apart, at least in her way of thinking. "Aide Aesculus, our Lord asked if you would give me a tour of the library. When my legs can move yet again, would you do me the honor of fulfilling his request?" The warmth returns to her voice as she speaks to Aesculus, revealing her mutual respect for him as she hopes he has for her, even though she only grew just this day.

"Yes, I will of course give you a tour, Lady Pappila. If you will excuse me, I had best take care of this manner while my memory is still clear. You may always feel welcome to stop by my room; I believe you know where it is." He bows to her, and then to Filix.
"I do apologize, Countess Filix, if I cause a rift between you and your sister. Her rude behavior and attitude must be curbed before it reflects badly on our kindgom and undermines the structure we have here."
"Herald Alces, I leave Pappila's welfare in your capable hands to tend to tonight." He bows again, this time to all three- it is a polite bow, with one arm across the waist and one arm folded behind his back, a slight bow of the body to accompany it. Before there can be much of a reply, his nimble form has disappeared into the hallway, and has carried him into the hall with barely a patter of his feet.

Filix watched Aesculus leave again, unable to reply as he'd left so quickly. She turned to face Alces and Pappila, shrugging helplessly at Rosa's behavior. Filix had no idea how to act around Rosa sometimes, it was just so frustating to see her sister act like that!
She sat down in a chair next to Pappila, and asked, "How do you feel now? Any different, magic wise?"

Pappila watches Aesculus leave for a moment before turning her attention to Filix, tilting her head thoughtfully before answering as honestly as she can, "I am better, though I'm unsure as to why I'm having trouble recovering. I just hope time will solve it."
She smiles before adding, "As for magic, I feel stronger, but I do not sense anything resembling spells in my mind." She frowns for a moment before asking, "Is Rosa always like that? I had hoped her to possess at least some form of dignity."

Alces, who had zoned out snapped back into reality and blinked, surprised to see most of the people that had been there now gone. He looked over at Filix and Pappila and smiled at each of them before speaking again.
"Countess Rosa is a very kind person when you get to know her." He told them as he too took a seat in one of the chairs.

(( Forgive me, but I must go for the night. sad ))
Pappila's facial expression goes to one of near perfect neutrality, though her eyes would tell the tale of her disbelief of that possibility. "Perhaps so, as with any life there can only be more to learn in time."
She gets struggles to her feet, wobbily walking forward, her wings flapping in an effort to help her keep what sense of balance she has managed to regain. "I had best go. If my Kithain asks where I have gone, please tell her I am making my way back to my chambers? Slowly, mayhap, but on my way."
She offers them both a parting half bow and a smile before making her way over to the door and then slipping beyond them.

Filix curled up in the corner of the library with a pile of books around herself, mostly about the history of the castle. She had made sure none were directly about the topic she was interested in, that being sword strategy... She'd been told to read about it... but the problem with that was that Filix kept getting distracted by the other things in the books. She had planned on only being here a short while, but already, she'd been here over two hours and had read the entirety of two different tomes already.
So much for a quick read up on swordplay...
Not that Filix minded much, the library was peaceful, no one ever entered, and it was better than sitting in her chambers or walking in the garden all the time.
She tugged up her knees to her chest, as she picked up a third tome and started to read through it.

Aesculus strode in, carrying a few tomes on folk tales, more or less. Stepping around the library gracefully, he seemed blissfully unaware of anyone else there, a slight deep hum in his throat that resonated through his chest and the room in a tenor or baritone pitch.

A noise startled Filix from the page, and she glanced up to see who was breaking the quiet of the library.
Then she went bright red, and hid her face in the book. She hadn't figured it out for herself yet, why did he have to come in? Filix waited a few moments for the red to leave, and then glanced up again. With a slight breath out, she smiled at the realization that he'd probably be more embarrassed than her... or at least, surprised.
She shut the book, and called across to him, "...Hello Aesculus."

For a moment he is startled, having slipped into a reverie thinking himself alone in the library. With the noise of the book and Filix's voice he quickly snaps out of it, clearing his throat as if to stop the vibrations there from humming.
"Oh, my sincerest apologies, Countess Filix. I was daydreaming and unaware that you were gracing this room with your prescence. Perhaps it is the nature of books to get us so entranced, so utterly entrenched in their rich text." He smiles warmly as he puts away his last book and stands up straight.
