I think George was Alanna's only equal. Jonathon was a king, I mean, in the end, I don't think (excluding the fact that Alanna would have made a bad queen) that he would live up to her. Liam was scared- even hated- her magic, and she used that to heal and save others. George was her equal and opposite, if you think about it...

Yeah George was best for Alanna but i can't help laughing when i think about when Jon and Alanna were in love. Just imagine the other squires watching the Prince gazing into Alan of Trebond's eyes.... hahahahahaha

George! Liam is awesome, but that doesn't work. And Jon is a bit of a jerk about the whole thing... plus he gets Thayet.
George and Alanna are great together! It just fits

I like Alanna and George together the most; he treated her as an equal the whole time, even when he thought she was a boy.
I did like the AlannaJon pairing up til around the end of First adventure and the begining of In the hand of the goddess.

i'm glad Alanna and George ended up together. He's so perfect for her, and that way she could be herself instead of having to be queen and all that that would have prevented her from going on adventures and having more fredom. I mean, I like how for instance George talks about marrying someone who won't be creeped out by his ear collection.

Of course I really like the George and Alanna pairing.
Not a big fan of Jon and Alanna.

However, I have a feeling that if Liam hadn't died, Alanna and George never would have ended up together.
As conflicting as their relationship was, both Liam and Alanna had deep feelings for each other.

I'm not saying Alanna would end up with Liam instead of George, but that she would probably end up single the rest of her life because of her confusing feelings for both George and Liam.

I disagree on if Liam had lived she wouldn't have ended up with George. She would have because she says that in spite of sharing a bedroll with Liam she missed George and she was a bit sad that he hadn't tried wooing her after the kiss when he first saw her again. Besides she knew George was the right one for her. The Purple Dress that she liked she remembered it was George's favorite. I think they'd have ended up together anyway. SHe's meant to be with George.

Ethereal Dream
I just reread In the Hand of the Goddess yesterday, in which Jonathon and George actually start showing romantic interest in Alanna. I think George went about it better. He let Alanna know how he felt, but he didn't press her. Jon was rather aggressive about it, on the other hand. I quote: "We belong to each other," like Alanna doesn't really get any say in the matter.

if your talking about forceful, george is the one who kissed her against her will!

alanna loved jon too, and he knew that!

I sort of liked Liam with Alanna at first, however in the end I realized that Alanna has a very feministic side to her too, in addition to her warrior self. Liam, really wanted her to be a warrior women like the Shang. Yet that doesn't really fit with Alanna's personality.

I go for Alanna and George. I agree with who posted this before me, but George was the one who loved Alanna completely for who she is, and embraces everything about her. Jonathan is restricted in that area, and he is borned a prince, a rule of the kingdom. Liam on the other hand likes her, but is mature enough to understand that they won't work out together and let's her go, I really like him for this.

He might have kissed her against her will but he did warn her and that was all he did. Jon on the other hand pressured her into a relationship. He's the one who cornered her in the garden and told her they belonged together. Jon cheated on her even when they were together in Corus. She was his form of Rebellion. Before people say she cheated on him George let her go they made no promises. I think I should point that out. Liam was also scared of her magic and that wouldn't work at all.

I'm glad you agree. I've read the Alanna series a lot probably as much as POTS and not quote as much as Terrier. In them I was surprised by how aggressive Jon was. Also that night in the garden he was trying to undress her right there in the garden! You can't call what George did aggressive especially if you compare them to Jon.

I like how she compares them to how Jon treats her as a comrad and George treats her as a lady and as a comrad biggrin i agree with whoever said Jon was in his rebelious phase and Alanna was justa part of it smile
