- ⊰Choosing My Way⊱
Ara had slept almost the whole way back to the Celestial Planes. It had not been a peaceful rest either. Talking to her adopted mother about her past had brought back painful memories. Memories that were very vague but there. She had been just a baby. Maybe her so called memories were fake. Ones that she thought she had because of all the stories she’d heard others telling. She sat in her room, brooding over the prospect of having to choose her clan. What should she do? She wasn’t all too sure. Would she go with her adopted parents clan or her birth parents clan?
Ara shuddered at the thought of being connected to her father in that way. She glanced in her dresser mirror and looked at herself, trying to imagine what others must think when they saw her eyes, her horns. She lifted her hand up to run her fingers over her butterfly like horns. Would they change as she grew older? Shaking her head, Ara rummaged through a few trinkets she had left of her mother’s; a couple of silver chain necklaces, one was adorned with a gray jewel that looked like it swirled with captured wind.
“Wind..” Araceli said under her breath. Her mother and father’s clan. Ayrala. Should she choose it? Her horns fluttered at the prospect. It was in her blood. The Peisio clan, her adopted parents clan, had been so kind of her though. What better way to repay the favor than to join them? She clutched the jewelry in her hand, wishing that she had regular horns. Oh what fun it would be to decorate them. For now, however, she fastened them around her neck, quickly hiding them down under her boa and shirt.
The wind blew in from her open window, bringing with it the scent of clean air. Her boa fluttered in the wind and Ara closed her eyes, loving the sensation of the wind flowing over her skin. There it was. That likeness with the wind. She opened her eyes and stared at her reflection. Was her heart really in to becoming Peisio? She fiddled with the jewel, that looked like a dragon eye, attached to her top. A present from her adopted mother. She would always cherish her adopted family and the clan they came from. Her hand closed over the jewel as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “I think I’ve decided.” She said to herself as she opened her eyes, nodding at her reflection.
Ara hurried down the stairs and out of the house. Niyol was visiting a friend but Araceli could not wait to tell her what she had decided. She quickly ran to the house her mom was at, boa trailing in the wind behind her. She laughed out loud, knowing she had made the right choice. She was running so fast that she could stop when she saw her mom standing the streets, watching Ara as she flew down them as quick as she could.
“Ara! Is everything alright?” Niyol asked as her daughter flew into her arms.
“Yes. Yes, yes!” Araceli pulled back and looked up at her mom. “I’ve decided to go with my birth mother’s clan; Ayrala.” She frowned as she realized that she was telling her mom that she would not be part of her clan. “I...hope that’s alright.” Ara bit her lower lip, worried now that Niyol might regect her.
“Oh hunny, that’s great!” Niyol beamed down at Araceli and then grabbed her up in a huge hug.
