Finally they seem to be making a dent in the hordes of the devouring creatures, clearing a path for themselves, pushing back the seething masses. When the shadowlings fall, others do not so readily take their place. It feels like progress. Soon the army that had been trying to mangle them is down to a few stragglers.
Several shadowlings seem to fizzle and recede and finally quiet. Is it over?
Before anyone can respond, the ground begins to shake a little, slowly, steadily, as thick black holes appear from the sides, from all angles, large yellow eyes beadily staring out.
What can be destroyed will only come back stronger

Rep found himself momentarily sad it was impossible to scoop up shadowlings and throw them as playful projectiles. They had a blobby consistancy but sadly a bit too much sentience and a lot too many claws. "Aye mibbey but no that kind of p***k. He made me look good." Even if he had to twist the definition of the word good to include pitiful and hopeless.
There was another stab of sympathy he couldn't help that made him frown. "Aye. I. I hate the other me but I'm glad they like. All sort of. Found each other in the end. Sort of." He wasn't sure he could ever be ok with the idea of depriving even that other Harrison of his Rep forever.
Ferros flaming was enough to jolt Rep out of what he was doing mid-swing. Apparently he'd shouldered a lot of the effort onto Tracey and Tracey was distracted by flashy shiny dragons.

At Jerry's request, Ryan left Dakota's side to aid the sun hunter. Who, now that he looked at him, didn't seem to be fairing too well. He hadn't noticed it before, but the sun hunter was panting as well as swaying on his feet. If he didn't get the proper assistance now, it was likely the older hunter would drop from both wounds and exhaustion. Not surprising given that he had been at this for a while now and with a never ending swarm of enemies, anyone was bound to run out of energy sooner or later.
"I'll help too. Bear with me for a moment, okay?" His offer wasn't exactly defensive, but he supposed some healing wouldn't be unwanted either and would be just as helpful.

The backlash for the fire from the shadowlings was brutal. But none of them touched Jordan.
"I liked him," Harrison said simply.
He felt almost normal, again. Strength-wise.
We've taken a lot of hits, B0nez noted, and zeroooo charges for it either. Scale back for a while, I want to get one off too.
The rapid speed and flurry slowed, while Harrison caught his breath and concentrated on Rep.

Crispin had come as quickly as he could, but the fact was he simply wasn't as quick or experienced as the full Hunters or even the intermediate trainees. He'd had to desummon Shaiming in order to run to the site of the battle, and light flared as the glaive came into being again. Crispin's knuckles were white around the glaive's shaft.
His first battle.
He yelped as a 'Heartless' jumped at him, all claws; he tried to dodge, but it left furrows in his leg. The pain was not unexpected, but it felt sharp and damp and not at all glorious.
Courage, Shaiming urged him. We all must have a first battle. Be grateful that you can fight. That we can fight together.
The dragon's presence was strong, steadying. Crispin drew a deep breath, then flinched as another 'Heartless' loomed. He didn't even try to swing his weapon, instead just kicking the thing in the face with one foot.

It felt weird to be thanked by the sun hunter, but Jason wasn't going to dwell on this as he stepped back to let the others take over, ready to come in if someone needed help.
It didn't take long for them to deminish the large herde of the shadow creatures, but as soon as they were all gone, even stronger ones came to take their place. With concern, the moon trainee saw Harrison was taking a beating as he worked to defend Rep and Jordan, so he stepped in to offer some assistance.
"Hold on Harrison!" He called out, only to yelp as he felt a large claw scratch down his arm. With a grunt he stumbled back to evade even more of them coming his way.

There were plenty of shadowlings blocking his way, and Jason didn't like it one bit. Suddenly a hiss caused him to jump forwards, and after a few seconds of more hissing, clawing, and yelping, the moon trainee scrambled to the other side towards Harrison, his coat all torn as he went to work trying to fix up the other moons wounds.
He managed to pull out a bandaid before he was tripped by a stray shadowling, and had to make a hasty retreat.

Nodding, she took another shot at any heartless that approached. "I'm not very good at defending, but I'll see if I can keep some of the heat off you." Not that she would be much help for that as well for the time being, with Xedis doing half the damage he normally did. Her attention shifted to Ryan as he approached, relieved to see that he was offering Jerry some support as well. "Nice, Ryan." At least that should boost his fear shield a bit.

There were more Hunters around now; Crispin took a few steps away, then swung the glaive about in a heavy arc once he was certain that he wasn't going to clobber anyone with it. A 'Heartless' was caught square in the belly by the shaft and fell backwards, but he felt more scratches on his legs as the shadowling's comrades made their irritation known.

"I like my tastes fine," Harrison answered, more gentle than the joking called for and keeping the defense tight. "But I can't argue with your taste either. Next time we stop by a fancyass Chev de la Frons-ey restaurant, you can use your genius tastes to do the ordering, and I'll use my non-amazing ones to do the enjoying."
Reading Rep's movements was the most important part of the job, but it was the part he was best at. Tracey wasn't going to leave a few nicks and scrapes, but within that zone, he felt safer.
Jason approached. Harrison ducked, easing up to allow him passage.
"Heh. They got you on field medic duty too, huh?"
Jason applied a bandage to his arm before falling back, and his shield gave a stuttering leap.
"Thanks," he told him, "you be careful, these things are just getting thicker."

There was a moment of reprieve as Ryan quickly administered a few bandages, and Jerry immediately felt a bit better. "Ah... thanks... both of you. If... even a little bit of defense is better than no defense, we don't want to use up those bandages too quick," Jerry adjusted his glasses before spotting the flailing newbie- a trainee he had never seen before. "YOU!" He shouted to Crispin, "Are you able to defend too?? The more defense I get the quicker I can get a good charge without ah... being overwhelmed-" That was all he had time to say before the creatures seemed to get their second wind....
He wasted no more time, staggering backward away from the others to keep them out of blasting range before his weapon erupted afresh, ripping through the regrowing shadows with a burst of sound and light, sending him stumbling back.

Crispin whirled as another Hunter shouted to him - he'd at least been able to learn the symbols of rank, and knew when he was being given orders by a superior. "Sir, yes sir!" he managed, darting away from the 'Heartless' that were threatening him, though one got another claw through his shield before he broke free.
Now, how the hell was he supposed to protect someone?! He stood uncertainly in front of the older man, his glaive held in both hands - but the dragon whispered to him, voice low and steady. He shifted his stance to something more firm, more certain. Okay. He could do this. He was a Moon Hunter, and he could do this.
