A X N E W X F R I E N D Damian awoke, drool covering his arm and face. He wiped up what he could and brushed his eyes to wake himself up a bit. It was then that he realized he wasn't at home. "Oh no...I fell asleep here last night. Papa is probably worried sick. Ugh." he said, crawling out from the overpass only to find a large, dark blue dragon sitting atop the rock he was under. Upon first sight, Damian shrieked a bit, falling to the ground and quickly flailing about to find his scepter.
"A-are you alright?" the dragon said, a very deep yet caring tone.
Damian looked up at him in utter shock. He wasn't attacking him? Why not? On top of that, he was asking how he was? Damian shook his head a bit and continued to stare at the creature.
"I-I'm fine...thank you. A-are you the one who saved me? I remember that marking on your shoulder and tail." Damian said, no longer truly afraid for his life. Then he realized his scepter was under the rock still, sitting there, lightly glowing.
"I heard the screams of the Ysali dragon as I was flying back to my cove under the water. I decided to check it out, and there I saw you getting rather torn up from all of the dragons around.There were at least twenty Ysali surrounding you until I came along. I just didn't find it fair that they were taking advantage of you like that. I hate seeing an innocent person suffer because of the dragons." the large dragon said, standing from his perch.
Damian began to tear up slightly. It was the sweetest thing anyone, or anything had ever done for him. "Thank you...thank you so much. How can I repay you?" the Hybrid asked.
"The only compensation I desire is your safe return home. You're obviously not from around these parts, right? You look Dovaa, but I saw that light flash last night. That means you're an Orderite as well, yes?"
"Y-yes...that's right. I just can't believe it..." he said, looking towards the ground.
"Believe what?" asked the dragon.
"I can't believe that you went out of your way to save me. No one has ever done something like that for me before." a couple tears rolled down his cheeks. He was just so happy that someone was kind enough to help him out.
"I know how it can be, being a Drakein, my kind has-" he began, but was cut off by Damian's shrieking voice.
"You're a Drakein!? No wonder you're so much smaller than the other Peisio dragons I've seen. The only Drakein I've ever seen was my friend, Maslin's companion, Lazuli."
"Heh, I guess that's true. Us Drakein are a little bit rarer than your ordinary dragon. We're few and far between, but our population will rise one day. I don't care for any of the war going on. I don't understand why everyone has to be a victor." the Drakein said, spreading his wings a bit and jumping across the way to face Damian directly.
"I'm Plesidio by the way, my siblings call me Sid. And you are?" he asked.
"My name is Damian Naraama, but my family calls me Dom. It's a pleasure to meet you, Sid. And thank you so much for saving my life. I know for a fact I would have died last night if you hadn't come to my rescue." Damian said, a bright smile on his face. He held out his hand, palm up, as if to extend an offering of friendship.
Sid caught wind of that, and slowly placed his claw upon the hand of the small individual. The two shared that moment, colliding Magescian and Drakein into a peaceful embrace of respect.
Damian just smiled at the Drakein. His eyes were so enticing. He couldn't wait to share the news with his Papa, mom, and dad. A Drakein had saved his life. It was as though he could truly call this creature a friend. Damian completely trusted him.
"May we meet again? Since you're a Peisio Drakein, maybe we can learn a thing or two together. I'm a Peisio Dovaa after all." he said with a smirk.
"Of course we will. I live just off of Serenia's coast, in a small cove with my siblings. Would you care for a ride to Serenia? Or the Celestial Vortex?" Sid asked.
"Now you're willing to give me a ride as well? You've already done so much for me. How about half way? That way I can give my wings the stretch they need." Damian responded happily.
Sid nodded and bent low to the ground, offering the boy to climb up. Any larger a child and he wouldn't be able to have offered such a ride by flight. With that, the two were off, Damian holding on tightly to the Drakein's neck as he flew off over the icy oceanic waters. This was the bud of a blossoming new friendship.

S O U L S X B E X G O N E It was time to repay his debt to Marcus Ysaride once again. This time, he had to do it alone. It had been another month of training gone by before he realized he had to give up the two souls he had collected through his travels. The first was that of a Peisio, the first dragon hunt he had ever gone on with his mother. The second was the Ysali soul he had collected from his first Ysali battle, a night he wishes he could forget, but a great night nevertheless. He toyed with the two souls as he sat upon his bed contemplating his decisions.
His appointment with Marcus was nigh and he needed to pack his things. Soon, he would be promoted to an Adept and he couldn't wait until his training was complete. He couldn't believe that it was almost time to move forward with his life. Time had passed by so quickly. Soon enough he would be a Master of both Aedaun and Peisio magics. His mind wandered with that thought for moments, thinking of all the healing and power he could obtain. Ah, it was just beautiful. His mind raced from one thought to the next. He thought about Maslin and Lazuli on their last visit to him. He thought about Plesidio and how much he truly appreciated the company. He hadn't even told his mother or father about Sid, though he knew that they should know. Papa knew and actually wanted to take a trip to visit Sid sometime and thank him himself.
Not only that, but Damian remembered being able to choose the scepter and how much power that brought to him. His father setting all those pieces down on the table in front of him and then he being able to choose which weapon best fit his walk of life. Even thoughts of his Gran strolled through his mind. Her giving him that heirloom from his grandfather. He clasped it tightly in his free hand, holding the souls in the other. It was time to get going.
He said his goodbyes to his father and went off to pay his debt to the Dovaa society. He stashed the two souls in a pouch and began to make his way towards the Celestial Fortress. It was time to give up those souls.
~~~
As Damian approached the door of the headmaster's office, thoughts of what he would say crept into his mind. He didn't rehearse any of this, he had been far too busy with his studies and training to rehearse a speech. Nerves began to get to him and he stood outside the office door trembling a bit, the pouch of souls in hand. Slowly, he knocked upon the door.
"Come in!" the voice called. Damian did as commanded. "Ah, Damian Naraama, yes? Please, come in and sit. What can I help you with, child?" Marcus said, his tone pleasant. Oh good, he was in a grand mood today. That made Damian's nerves quit their trembling just a wee bit.
"My souls sir. I've b-brought my souls." he said, sheepishly walking to sit down in the chair across the desk from the leader of all Dovaa. He slowly placed the pouch on the table, his hand slowly retracting to the armrest.
Marcus smiled and took the pouch, opening it up and dumping the two souls in his hand. His eyes widened considerably upon seeing the Peisio orb. "How on earth did you defeat a Peisio Dovaa at such a young age?" Marcus asked, taking the orb and examining it.
"Oh, m-my mother and I went hunting together. She helped me." he said, looking at the shocked face of the leader.
"Ah, yes, Kavanna. Such a sweet young girl full of spirit and fire. I remember her well. You do remind me of her in many ways, you know." he said with a smile.
Damian let out a nervous chuckle. He didn't know how to respond. "Th-thank you sir. I ap-p-p-preciate the compliment. My mother...she is a great woman." he said, blushing a bit upon the embarrassing nervous stutter.
Marcus nodded in agreement. "Hah, well, I'm glad you've given me the souls. It looks as though you have grown into a fine young man, Damian. Continue your studies and become stronger. I wish to see you back again someday! As for now, I am busy, but you are more than welcome to request an appointment with me at any time. Good luck with your future hunting and know that the Dovaa are always on your side." Marcus said, placing some glasses upon his face and going over the many papers on his desk.
"Thank you so much sir! You won't regret it! I'll grow stronger every day!" Damian chirped happily.
With that, he left for his home on the other side of Astral City, where he would be proud to call himself, an Adept.
