The sun was out, the day had begun. The Naraama family was together once again after many months apart. Kavanna, Alexander, and Damian all decided it would be best to go on a little family trip to Ashen City Market before heading to Lake Amafel for a picnic. It was just too beautiful a day to let slip by.

"I am so happy to be doing this. We haven't been out as a family in ages." Kavanna said with a sigh of relief and a smile upon her face.

Alex nodded in agreement. "Ah, yes, and during a beautiful day. Light breeze. Gorgeous weather. Nothing could spoil it." he stated.

Damian walked a few paces behind. He was a bit older now and much more skilled a warrior since he had turned in his dragon souls. A lot had happened to him in the past couple years, but now he was really growing up. He gazed into the orb of his scepter and checked his appearance for any flaws in the reflection. Barring his teeth, checking one side of his face, then the other. It was imperative to be looking his best, especially when visiting the cities. After all, he never knew who he would meet there.

"Haven't been to the city in almost a year. I wonder if it has changed at all." Damian said, finally lowering the scepter to his side and turning his attention to his parents.

Kavanna shook her head. "It's still just as beautiful as before, Dom. I promise you that."

With that, the three continued their trek to Ashen City.

Ignotus peered at the fruit in his hand and frowned. It seemed the Ashen City Market wasn’t all he’d hoped it would be. The Kala fruit was a sad half the size of its counterparts in the bush markets, twice the actual price of the fruit’s production cost and probably only a quarter of its real sweetness. The hybrid kind of wanted to enchant the vendor with a pig’s tail for trying to rip him off, but only behaved himself because as a vendor himself he certainly knew ripping off customers was part of the job. Disgusted, he returned the fruit to its former place and glared at the vendor….who had the temerity to glare at him back. THE NERVE!

“We should think about getting Brin Berries instead.” Informis, in his small pipe-fox form curled about the hybrid’s neck purred. “I hear they're in season and probably a lot cheaper than those Kala fruits you’ve been craving.”

Ignotus pouted and grumbled. He’d been having cravings for the damn sweet-sour fruit for almost a month now and since he’d landed on Serenia’s main cities and started peddling his wares to the more civilized folks, he hadn’t been able to get his hands on a decent specimen of Kala fruit at all. What he did find were miserably parodies with wrinkled skins and bland insides. Ignotus could just feel himself salivate at the thought of a fresh Kala Fruit picked right out of the wilderness.

“Well you’re not getting any unless we actually head back into the wilds…” his companion reasoned, still drowsy from its nap. “So stop trying to get one and just buy something we can both eat.”

Informis, the ever practical as always, Ignotus sighed. Serenia and Orderite cuisine was so dull and bland. He was a bit more used to the cooking that wanderers and banished like himself made that were filled with the harsh spices and strong flavours found out in the bush.

The hybrid was just about to leave the stall when his semi-souled eyes landed on a beautiful specimen of manhood. Those blue eyes and chiselled check bones were certainly something….and Ignotus' vision narrowed down to the equally handsome offspring.

After all the lad still had that particular spring in his step only the youth possess. The pale-haired man smiled to himself as he observed the teen look at himself in the reflection of his scepter...had it been Ignotus doing the same, he'd not be so outright in his narcissism. Well...foibles of the young and all that.

"Isn't he a little young for you?" his companion drolled. "I thought you had standards?

Ignotus raised an eyebrow at the comment and turned his gaze towards the little pipe-fox at head-height. "But you have to agree...he certainly looks like a regular prince charming, doesn't he?"

"From the looks of his parents....you better be careful." Informis warned.

Ignotus chuckled darkly and purred. "When am I ever not careful little one?"

Kavanna stopped at each and every stall to see what wares they had for sale. Alex followed her every move. "Oh, these Kala fruit look divine!" she called, picking a few up and placing them in her basket. She smiled and thanked the vendor and began to walk away.

Alex took out his coin purse and paid the man, and with a nod and a smile, the two were off.

It was then that Kavanna caught eye of the tall, slender, alabaster skinned male that she had seen before. It wasn't as though she had ever spoken to the man, but she did see him at the Winter Festival all those years ago while she was still pregnant with Damian. He was manning a booth of some sort, she couldn't quite remember what it was about, but his looks were so unique it was hard to forget his face. She said nothing, but instead, just smiled at the man and began to walk away. Alexander followed suit and to the next booth they began.

Meanwhile, Damian just stood behind his parents, peering around and searching to see if he could find anyone or anything of interest. The town was beautiful just like his memories foretold.

The Hybrid began to follow his parents when the same man his mother saw came into his line of sight. The tall, handsome man with no eyes, so mysterious, so intriguing. That was definitely a sight he hadn't seen before, and something about this man was so inviting. His clean, pressed robes and his tidy appearance made a statement that resounded within the boy. Now he knew exactly what it was like to be a beautiful being. Besides the scar upon his face, which added to this man's mystery, he was a very handsome creature.

Damian shook his head a bit, realizing he had probably stared long enough, and began to move forward to follow his parents. His nerves were now worked up.

'Damn...I'm sure he noticed me staring. What the hell was I thinking.' the boy thought to himself as he kept his gaze away from the pale man across the way.

Ignotus

“I think that one might be overreaching his standards as well.” Informis huffed, amused as they both noted the youth’s interest.

Ignotus smiled as he felt the blue gaze land on him, and reached a hand to run his fingers soothingly through his companion’s fur. “It is a bit odd though…I might remember running with that boy’s mother sometime back in a Winter Festival.” The hybrid thought out loud, “But for the life of me, it seems to be hazy.”

A small wiggle and a little flash of light, Informis in his tall kitsune form sat down beside Ignotus, and lolled his tongue out in laughter as a nearby stall vendor gasped like a silly idiot. They should know better than to underestimate anyone.

“I think she might have been round with child then…” his canine companion pointed out.

Ignotus narrowed his eyes in deep speculation, before murmuring back, “It is odd how you hadn’t existed then but seem to derive more out of my own memories than I, myself, can.”

The kitsune yipped in delight, “I am, by far, your better half Ignotus. You always seem to forget that.”

The rather handsome prince seemed to have noticed that his gaze was lingering longer than a casual passer-by in a rather public market was wont to. It was also interesting to note that he seemed to be a hybrid Dovaa and Orderite, obviously from his parents but what was even more interesting was the fact that he was a magic user as well. The knowledge stirred more than a little interest within the pale hyrbrid. Indeed….the teen was no doubt quite powerful. It would be fascinating to meet with him and talk magical theories. After all it gets a little lonely in the wilderness with only Informis and his not-so-intelligent golems that ran the more physical aspects of his career.

“But how to approach him without his rather powerful parents noticing?” Ignotus wondered, “His father, the Orderite, will probably sense something of my constant handling of dragon souls….and although their son is a hybrid…I’m not sure how they will react to being confronted with one as different as I. Hybrids are rare but Oblivionite and Orderite ones even more so.”

“Oh….I’m sure I can think of something.” Were the parting words of his companion, before Informis pelted off after the hybrid teen and left Ignotus gaping. What was he thinking?!

He could only gape as his companion ran full tilt towards the lad.

Damian stood a few paces behind his parents, as they were quite busy with finding the perfect foods to go along with their picnic meal. They weren't paying too much attention to what was going on around them, which in this instance, was probably not the best thing. Damian kept his eyes away from the tall stranger, trying to occupy his mind with something else...anything else that wasn't him. He had these urges to peek over just to see what the tall man was doing.

The market was a bit crowded with people on this day, and Damian had just barely seen out of the corner of his peripheral a white and black blur come toppling him over. With a loud thud, the two were on the ground, the Kitsune standing over the small Hybrid. His parents hadn't noticed a thing! Well...that was rather rude. Damian quickly stood up and brushed himself off.

"What are you doing little guy?" he asked, bending a bit to pet the puppy. If there was one thing that warmed his heart, domesticated creatures would be it! He didn't even care that his parents hadn't noticed the incident, nor did he care that he was with them anymore. It was obvious that he hadn't noticed the pipe-fox transform into such a beautiful creature, but then he glanced up from his petting and saw the tall man just across the way. His cheeks flushed red and he quickly veered away from looking at him. Oh dear, what had he done?

~~~
Meanwhile, Kavanna and Alex continued their looking through the Market. Kavanna picked things up, placed them in her basket, and Alex would follow behind, taking out his coin purse whenever needed. The two slowly made their way farther and farther from Damian, not even realizing he wasn't beside them any longer.
Ignotus
Ignotus could feel his cheeks redden as he saw Informis bowl over the young man. He had to resist the strong urge to face palm and maybe hide underneath a rock in shame or something. There were times he couldn’t believe that the Kitsune had come from something within him…yet, there were some occasions like this which reminded him of his more reckless teen days as well. He was also a little glad that the young man’s parents were further off the Marketplace and seemed not to have noticed the commotion.
Shaking his head in wry amusement, Ignotus quickly strode towards where his companion was blatantly enjoying the pettings from the much younger hybrid. He noted Informis shooting him smug looks as he curled around the hands caressing his fur, and wagging his three tails in delight.
Elegant white robes flapping behind him, at the pace the pale man walked, Ignotus finally approached the “scene of the crime”, as it were, and cleared his throat. “Eh-hrm!”
“Iggy!” Informis yipped happily in reply, still audaciously asking for more pettings from the rather good-looking youth.
The Master Mage turned an apologetic look towards the younger man, “I’m extremely sorry for any discomfort you seemed to have suffered under the hands of my…disobedient companion.” He paused, shooting a chastising look towards his grinning companion, “Can I buy you a drink or a snack in apology?”
Ignotus smiled, what he hoped was a suitably charming smile.
Damian glanced over at his parents, who were still going about their morning gathering what food they wanted, not even taking the time to realize their son was just bashed to the ground in a flurry. With a roll of his eyes and a final glare at the two negligent parents, the boy turned a smile towards the tall pale man before him.
"I really don't think that's necessary. It was a very nice gesture though, so thank you." he began. "The name is Damian, but many of my family and friends call me Dom for short." he finished, holding out a hand for the man to shake.
The boy took another glance at the animal who had pummeled him. He wished and prayed that one day, he would be able to obtain a companion as beautiful as that majestic creature. He was beginning to get lost in his thoughts until he heard a voice.
"Dom! There you are. Why did you leave us!?" his mother cried, walking back to his side, father following behind her. When she realized that he had been stopped and was talking to this man whom she had briefly met all that time ago, was a bit concerning for her. She knew he was old enough now to make his own decisions and do what he pleased.
"It's nice to see you again. I believe we saw you at a Winter Festival a while back, perhaps?" she said, turning her head to Alex as she said 'we'.
Damian's face turned as red as could be as his mother had interrupted what he thought to be a "moment" between him and this older man. Damn...well what was he to do now? If he wanted to continue to talk to this man, whom the beautiful kitsune called "Iggy", than he would need an excuse to get out of this family outing that they had all decided to take. He wasn't even able to find the words to respond to his mother before she instantly turned her attention to this man named Iggy. He looked at the ground in deep thought. What excuses could he come up with? His thoughts wandered as his mother began to talk to the stranger.
Ignotus.
The master mage bit his lower lip, half in annoyance and half because of lost opportunity. He didn’t know if the teen was innocently naïve enough to reject, what was very much a clear offer for closer intimacy, because of his youth or because he didn’t like Ignotus. The latter being something that made the pale hybrid’s eye tick in irritation. Although Damian was certainly a name fit for a prince.
Ignotus noted disgustedly at Informis’ antics when the kitsune noted the admiring glances Damian sent his way. Well…it certainly rang true that his companion, upon his creation, inherited a rather substantial portion of narcissism from his master.
The hybrid took a surprised step back when the young man’s parents suddenly walked back towards them. She certainly looked familiar enough, yet Ignotus still couldn’t quite put his finger on when they last met. He carefully smiled to himself as he watched her fuss and mother-hen her child. In the back of his mind, the master mage winced and felt slightly like a *****, so that’s where they met! Ignotus barely remembered half of what happened back at the Winter Festival. He’d grown rather bored about halfway through the event and spent the rest of it daydreaming being somewhere else.
The white-haired man sent a tendril of thought to Informis, “Come back little one, the situation seems to have gone rather awry…” Ignotus felt a slight tug in the reservoir of magic inside him and observed his kitsune companion shrinking back into his miniature form behind Damian and ghosting his way back into Iggy’s robes.
Turning his attention back to the young man’s mother, while Informis made himself comfortable in his master’s robes, Ignotus gave his most charming smile. If he had any further plans on pursuing the youth, he’d best charm the teen’s mother.
“Perhaps.” Ignotus conceded, “But that was a rather long time ago…and I never had the best of memory for faces. However, it is certainly lovely to meet you.” He gave a slight but gentlemanly bow. “I was just offering my apologies to, (your son?) whom my companion has done some injury.”
"It's very nice--wait...done...harm? Dom, are you alright!?" Kavanna cried in concern, looking over her son in a rather thorough manner as some mothers tend to do.
Damian put his hands up and pushed her away a bit. "I'm fine, mom. I just fell, that's all. Now can you please just go continue looking at the shops. I'll meet you later. I want to go into that shop over there, so you two have fun and I'll meet back up with you before we head back home, okay?" he said, rather annoyed and embarrassed at his mother's antics.
Kavanna eyed her son, then looked back at Alex, whom just shrugged and laughed a bit. "Your son's right. Lets just go. He'll be fine. He's our son after all. He can no doubt handle his own." Alex said, pulling Kavanna away a bit. "It was nice seeing you again, sir." Alex said as he pulled Kavanna along.
"You be careful, Dom, okay!? Meet us at the edge of town in a couple hours! We'll be waiting! I love you!" Kav yelled at her son before the two disappeared into the crowed.
The boy's face was more red than a Firani Dragon at that point. How embarrassing was she! 'Oh gods...how could she do that to me. Now he's not going to want anything to do with me.' he thought a moment, trying to catch more thoughts to pull into words for the man before him.
"I'm terribly sorry about that. My mother doesn't always know when enough is enough...at least when it deals with me." the red tinted boy said, looking at the ground with sigh and shake of his head.
Ignotus
Ignotus looked on, extremely amused as the Dovaa woman managed to thoroughly embarrass her son In front of a stranger. The young man’s cheeks were red in mortification, his gaze locked to the ground and probably mentally burying his head in the sand. The pale man could feel a curl pleasure on his lips as he observed the spectacle before him.
It was, probably one of the better reasons, for Ignotus to be thankful that he’d never actually known his parents. There were times where, deep within his being, he’d yearned so hard to have someone care for him like he’d seen this youth’s family obviously did. However, having never actually experienced it first hand, he could only wistfully wonder if he’d come out just as naïve and soft as Damian.
Ignotus felt a slight tinkle at the back of his mind as Informis’ curiosity arose, the little pipefox slowly making its way back to the proper position around his master’s neck. Inny then released a little giggle as the blond haired hybrid fought to reassure his parents of his independence and maturity.
“I think the kid likes you Iggy, “the white kitsune concluded voice tinged with laughter.
Ignotus twitched, his tail waving lazily behind him, as the young hybrid’s parents left and Damian’s gaze turned back to him and delivered an apology for his family’s antics.
“It’s perfectly alright Damian.” The mage purred, wings furling and unfurling behind him. “It’s good to have a family who loves you as much as they obviously do. Not all hybrids are as lucky.” Ignotus smiled after replying, to take the sting out of his statement. He didn’t want to alienate the lovely boy after all.
Ignotus then continued, laying on his charm at its thickest, “So, can I convince you to reconsider your decision to have a meal with me in reparation to the fault my frisky companion has done?”
Damian looked towards the crowd where his parents had apparently disappeared. "I know they love me, and I know a lot of other people in general don't get that. I just wish they would be a little less...overbearing." he said, his cheeks slightly blushed as he looked over the crowd. For some reason he couldn't bring himself to look into the soulless sockets of the man before him. It just seemed a bit...strange. After all, he had never seen an actual Oblivionite in person anyway, and this man was, in fact, half Oblivionite.
The young boys skin turned redder than ever before upon the question to reconsider lunch. He hadn't known what would come of a meal with a stranger, but he was certainly attracted to this pale, alabaster-skinned man. Sure, he had the appearance of an Oblivionite, but he was half Orderite. Something about him was extremely...different; and Damian couldn't quite put his finger on it.
"You know what, I think that would be fun. I haven't been to the city in quite a long time. Anywhere specific you know of?" the hybrid said with a slight chuckle, looking at the ground, only to look up when he was finished speaking.
Suddenly, his mother returned, "Dom, we have to go, we forgot about this thing we have to do." she said, not eluding to anything in front of the stranger.
Damian just sighed and nodded, waving to the older man before following behind his parents footsteps.
