Sherry forced a smile through her tears as Tori's hands covered hers. It was a small comfort for Sherry...but what about the person bleeding out before them? Was it any comfort for them? Sherry could feel it, like Tori could. Their life was fading. It was useless. "Ok, your friend's not dead. You can leave that thing to die now."
Her eyes glanced up at Jake, then back to the figure whose life was ending. He was right. Tori was here, he was here...and Sherry was certain they were real.
Enemy.
Yes. It, it was an enemy. Who else could it be? No coat, no hunter. Just...she looked down at the hands pressed against it's wound. The life was all but gone now. There was nothing to be done.
Enemy. The whisper came again.
Sherry looked over the figure again. Dead. A dead enemy. "No!" Sherry pushed away. Away from Tori and away from the body. Time wasted. A failure. Whatever it was was still dead, and she had... One anguished cry escaped her.
Armagnac's voice was soothing, but stern.
You couldn't have said something before? Regret was welling up now. Time wasted. Effort wasted. On who? On what? Jake had been right.
Impatience was creeping into the wyrm's voice now.
Right. Sherry sniffed, and one raised one hand to wipe her face. She stopped, seeing the stained glove. She exhaled, gaining her composure, and set about removing the gloves.
"Thank you, Tori, for trying to help." It was good to know that the Lifer had her back. Sherry got to her feet, her gaze avoiding the body. She left her gloves on the floor.
"Sorry for freaking out there, I thought..." she didn't finish. She felt guilt, shame, or something like it at least. Was it because she'd helped the enemy? Or because she'd panicked? It doesn't matter. Sherry inhaled deeply, attempting to brush the feeling away.
"Shearie."
"What?" She turned to Jake. Son of a b***h. I will kill him. Is he here just to make me crazy? The death trainee was not in sight.
"Tori," at least one of them was reliable, "did you see where that brat went?"
"Shhhhhhhh."

Tori so just wanted to snort at the new kid, Jake for what he said well since she didn't want to fix her nose again; Tori would just have to deal with him later. To which Aklin just snickered at his hunter, but then growled softly when the fog did clear a little to see that figure they had been trying to save was an enemy.
A little shocked to see for herself that it was an enemy seeing that it had no coat and was no hunter. Tori was confused as she felt good that she did try to help and it didn't help any when she saw it mouth 'Thank you' before it passed on. There was nothing more that she could do and nothing more that she could do as thoughts of a conversation she had with a siren not too long ago to the things that he brought to light and made her rethink things a little.
Hearing what Sherry said as Tori was feeling the same thing to why she couldn’t be more helpful it was a life even if it was an enemy and even now Tori was starting to hear the whispers of something besides Aklin talking to her. The lifer felt bad for Sherry when she cried out as she too regretted not being more help as she could have put the creature out of its misery if she had only known, but then at the time there had been no other way of knowing.
Ok. Tori said to her weapon as her friend had already gotten back up and finding that she had been crying herself. Rest in peace she thought to the enemy figure since she didn’t want it to come back to haunt her at all. Looking at he own hand since she didn’t have gloves on to take off, Tori wiped her hands off on the ground the best that she could, which had gotten most of it off.
“Your welcome, Sherry and it was no problem,” Tori replied getting up off the ground herself to stand next to Sherry and gave her a quick hug for a little comfort for the both of them.
“Don’t worry about it. Its just something that come with our job,” she said wondering a little to what wasn’t said but Tori wasn’t going to pry. Tori still couldn’t figure it out if she had been guilty to helping an enemy or for unable to save them. Pushing those feeling away to be figure out later.
“Victoriaaaa”
Hearing that voice to which Tori just didn’t listen to as there had been more pressing matters to attend to when Sherry had asked to were Jake had heading off to. “I didn’t but I don’t think he got too much farther ahead of us and lets hurry to find him,” she replied as Tori shivered slightly. “As I don’t think it’s a good idea to be alone in this place,”

"Thanks," Sherry gave Tori a bit of a weak smile. The comfort was welcome.
"Yes," Sherry agreed with both Tori and Armagnac, together was better. "Ok, let's see if we can find him." Sherry turned. If he had left without her seeing, it meant he had probably gone...over there somewhere. She stared at the swirling fog.
Shhh. Vuuuuu!
A faint whisper. "Let's try that way," she summoned Armagnac as she set off.
hahaaaa~ Shhhhh!
"Did you say something?" Sherry turned to Tori. She could have sworn she heard...well, she didn't know what she heard. Before she could contemplate on it more, something else did catch her attention. "Do you smell that?" It smelled like something was cooking. "This way."
It wasn't far. The fog swirled, and Sherry caught sight of Jake. He wasn't alone...again. What kind of trouble had he gotten them into this time?
"I don't like the look of this," Sherry whispered to Tori.
Cautious and guarded as ever, Sherry stepped forward. She had to make up for her failure earlier, she couldn't be weak with this one. The black figure with white eyes seemed to grin at her. There was something oddly familiar about it, too.
Mrrrffffllllleeee-- Shhhhh!
A shiver ran up her spine. Focus. Whatever this was, it was trouble.
As Sherry watched, she saw the death trainee hold up something small and black. Picked something? What did he mean?
"Jake," she said slowly. "What are you doing?"
Mmmm fffoooodzzz!
Sherry glance around the area. They needed to leave...but there seemed to be no way out. "Oh, we can take a break after we're done, there's still so much to do!"
"Done?" Sherry repeated. Done with what? Surely not done...cooking? One skeptical eyebrow was raised. It certainly looked and smelled like cooking was happening. She took a closer look at the counter Jake had pick something up from. Those...were those supposed to be ingredients?
"What did you walk into?" she asked, shooting a glance at the death trainee. If they died here, it she was blaming him.
The black figure was still grinning. Still waiting. For what? For help? Sherry let out a little sigh. Sure, why not? Stranger things had happened. Too many times to list. Why not help a goopey shadow monster cook? (And anything was better than what had just happened.)
"I think we should pick something, too," Sherry said to Tori.
"Here. I'll pick this one," she reached down with her free hand, and picked up the strange fish-like creature that was staring at her with white eyes.
She was strangely calm about the whole thing. Life was so much easier when things were odd. And when you had someone to be grumpy at.

“Your welcome,” Tori replied with a little smile too.
“Sounds good to me,” she replied as she followed to where Sherry was heading but kept on looking over her shoulder as they walked. Tori thought there was someone behind her whispering to her but always found nothing there and she tried to ignore it but sometimes it was hard. Tori just nodded with Sherry pointed in a direction as it was good as any other and followed suite and summoned her own weapon.
“No I didn’t,” the lifer answered a little confused but then all of this fog was confusing as it swirled around them. Tori just wanted to get out of it before any of the insanity monsters came out of it. Even before Sherry said that she smelled something, Tori had all ready smelt it already as it was strange smell but sorta warm. “Yes I do,” she replied following her friend in the direction she was going in.
Tori saw the fog swirl as it in a way parted to where she could see Jake and he was with someone and she didn’t like this one bit as her weapon agreed with that statement with a soft growl with her chains clanking softly as Tori walked on.
“Me either,” Tori whispered back.
Walking up slowly, keeping her guard up as that black figure looked oddly familiar to her and Tori was going to say something to Sherry about it but kept it to herself when she heard more soft whispering around her.
“Yes what are you doing as it wasn’t a good idea to wander off by yourself,” Tori said to Jake since Tori didn’t want any of them to die today if she could help it. She did have to wonder to what he was picking up but looking around at what looked like counters to see few things you cook with and other things with eyes.
"That's very nice, Mary." The figure absentminded dismisses, pulling a clawed-black mass from another counter and then several fluffier ones from another. She tosses them into a large inky bowl and then pulls out a knife-shaped object. You hear a muffled squish as black ichor flies everywhere. "Help me with the pan will you? I want to make these cookies before everyone else comes in, you know how it gets."
She sounds-
Tori had wondered a little to why this shadow had called her Mary as that wasn’t her name but feelings started to rise that confused Tori as she tried to figure out why this was in someway familiar to her. Not saying anything to not jinx herself, Tori does do what the figure asks of her while she does try to remember and hand the figure the pan.
“Think that you are right, as I do think it would be best,” Tori replied to Sherry.
Looking over at what was there and seeing what Sherry had picked to which Tori thought it might be best to pick something different than he friend. “Here you go, I think this one will do good,” she said pick up the tentacled gelatinous creature that is staring at you with white eyes.

As the figure accepted the thing he shoved in its face, he turned around to see both Sherry and Tori behind him.
He only gave a shrug at Sherry's question. "Hell if I know. Stupid thing won't let me leave until I give it something. No idea what the heck it's planning to do"
Tori's question, however, was greeted with a cold stare. "I do what I want, ok? Especially since you guys were SO insistent on crying over some stupid dead body. I bet it wasn't even one of the other hunters, was it?"
A strange beeping sound made him turn his head back to the figure, though the first thing he NOTICED was black smoke coming out of the oven. That... didn't look good. The figure only smiled at him and told him everything was fine. Though he might not have a lot of knowledge about cooking, he was pretty sure there wasn't supposed to be SMOKE, especially BLACK SMOKE coming out of the oven.
Pushing past the figure, he prepared to yank open the oven door, but before he could do so, everything went white.

Jake found himself moments later, utterly alone. ... Where did those other two go? Where was that figure? ... Where was HE?
He jerked his head to the side when he thought he saw something move. Then... there it was again. His eyes darted around the area, still clenching tightly to the bladed weapons. There was... something here. He just knew it.
He was going to decide that for himself! ... After moments of obsessively looking around, he felt somewhat content that he wasn't followed... and heard a somewhat weary sigh from Chester.
Strangely, at the moment, he did. And so he wasn't paying attention when he walked right into a door.
THUD
"Ow!" He was no longer paranoid, but he was pretty ticked off now. "Why the **** is there a door here?!"
He tried to walk around it, but it seemed to door... shifted? "What the hell."
He turned around and started walking, half-expecting it to follow him. When it didn't though, he got curious, and took a step back.
THUD
... Ok, what the hell was going on here? He turned around to face the door. It didn't seem like there was anything else here, so... was he supposed to go THROUGH the door?
Hesitantly, he reached out a hand. He could hear Chester's complaint, but something told him he had to do this. The moment his hand touched the doorknob though, he heard a voice
Waaaaait!
He stiffened. What-
He flinched as he felt a hand on his shoulder. ... Sherry?
Arms wrapped around him. Um...
Someone took his hand. What...
A small tug...
Jake turned his head to see... someone he clearly shouldn't be seeing. Yet there was no mistaking it.
"C-C-Catherine?!"
N-no, it couldn't be. She was dead. Murdered. Murdered by the ones who wanted to take HIS life, yet she paid the price instead.
Don't go. Please. There's still another way. You don't have to do this!
A lump formed in his throat. Was... was this the fog's doing? Was insanity taking over him?
The voice was distant to him.
... Real? It couldn't be.
Don't go. Please.
How he desperately wished this wasn't an illusion, but... there was no way this could of been real. He had seen the body himself. The Catherine he once knew, was now no longer.
He swallowed the lump and held her hand.
"I... I'm going. I HAVE to go. It's my duty."
For your sake, he wanted to add. To keep that promise I made to you.

Sherry gave Jake a deadpan look as the black figure took the ingredients. Sure, she understood how it went. Sometimes you just had to roll with things, even when they seemed nuts (like right now). But still. He had wandered off- and that was irritating.
His response to Tori, however, caused Sherry to look at her feet. It hadn't been a hunter. And she'd been freaking out. I don't deserve to be here. I can't believe I even tried.
Sheerrainthssssssssshhhhhhhh
"Hush," Sherry whispered to whoever was talking. They were doing that almost constantly, and it was getting old.
hahahaha
And they were laughing at her. I can't blame them. Her eyes focused on the toes of her boots. They were scuffed and stained, proof of her most recent failures. I messed up again, didn't I?
Yessssshhhhhhhhhh! hahaha
I knew it. The others would be better off leaving me behind.
Hahaha!
Sorry. Even her partner was upset with her.
Hahaha!
I know. She was still looking at her boots, the mists lightly swirling around them. Hey, you smell that?
It's nice. Reminds me of....I'm not sure. Holidays and happiness, maybe. She smiled lightly. She hardly noticed her vision blurring, her world turning white. That's a nice song.
At least the girl seemed to have forgotten her esteem issue.
Sherry's world went white. She didn't mind.

Oh Tori will meet your cold stare with one of her own with a little growl too as now you got her anger rising. “Do you have a death wish or something kid? With that type of attitude will only get you killed either by a creature or by your division leader, Caelius,” she replied very coldly and to the point with glaring in there. Tori did feel a little guilty when Jake did mention that the body wasn’t even a hunter. “What does it matter to you?” Tori stated as she thought of the student she talked to. “Don’t make me have to pull rank on you, kid as I will if I have to. I will not let you die because of your stupidity,” Tori said very sternly with lot of anger behind that warning. She would even take him to the sparing ground just to make sure he understood things if Tori had to just for him to learn and not be dead.
Watching the figure put the thing into the bowl and then into the oven. Tori heard what the figure said and were a little hesitant to try one but she did any ways, since what’s the worse think that could happen. The voices quieted down a little that made her feel a little on edge and now less which was a good thing, right?

Sherry was vaguely aware of voices. Tori? Jake? Armagnac? Whoever else was talking? “Would you all just hush?” She looked up, slightly annoyed.
No one. There was only white. Umm….
Me, too. It wasn’t reassuring. “Tori? Jake? Guys?” she called into the swirling fog cautiously.
Flllaahahaha
Voices! And she knew she recognized one of them. “That way,” she said, stepping into the fog. “Jake! Tori! Where are you guys?” She really shouldn’t be calling so loudly. But the other whispers seemed to be getting louder, but that could be because the fog seemed to muffle everything.
It even did a really good job of hiding the door. Sherry almost walked into it. It was huge…and even though the gray matched the fog, it seemed impossible to have nearly missed it. (Luckily she didn’t see your fail there, Jake.)
“What is this?”
“I know it’s a door,” she huffed.
Lalalhahhaaahahaha
Sherry glanced around. There was no sign of anyone. “Tori? Jake? I’m over here, by this door.”
“Advice taken,” the life trainee said, turning back to the door. She reached out one hand, and touched it. It seemed solid enough. And really rather door-like. “Seems normal, though. I wonder what’s on the other side,” she took a step, and tried to poke her head around it. The door slid to the side, stopping her. “Ok. Not normal.” She tried this a couple more times, but the result was very much the same. The Door stayed in front of her.
“Hmm…” Sherry quickly turned around and took a few steps away. The door was still this time.
Sheeerrrriaaaia
“Shh,” Sherry responded. To Armagnac she said, “It won’t let us go that way,” she gestured behind the door. “But we can go back the way we came.”
“I was hoping to ask you,” she glanced around again. No sign of anyone. The door was in front of her, and the fog was behind. “I wish I knew where Jake and Tori were.”
Sherry stared at the door.

Tori tried to move forward some to only have her path blocked off by a door that just appeared out of the fog with no warning at all. Growling slightly since the door was in the way but she was a little curious to why the door just appeared.
Going up to the Tori touched to feel that it was solid where her fingers touched it. What do you think of this, Lin? She asked of her weapon.
I will, Lin. She replied as Tori tied to walk around the door since she couldn’t walk the way she wanted to. To which the door slid into her way ever so silently and Tori cursed a few times at the door for getting in her way. The lifer heard Jake once so she knew that he was near by and Tori heard Sherry call out but she couldn’t see her anywhere around as to what she thought that door was in her way to getting to her friend.
“Sherry, Kid are you near by as I’m a door,” Tori called out while her weapon was telling her to not yell to loud since the enemy could be near by.
Well since she couldn’t get around it maybe it would open up like any normal door where she could get to the others and much more safe. Tori looked over her should since she was still hearing a very quite voice.
Reaching out for the doorknob and just as she touches it a voice calls out to her to wait and Tori jumps some as that was something she wasn’t expecting. Trying to gain back her composer Tori felt a touch on her shoulder and then she felt someone wrap there arms around her. All thought disappeared from Tori as she felt someone take her hand as there had been a tug on the back of her clothing.
Stopping to see who had taken her hand. At first she could see that there were a few people there some Tori recognized as her best friends and some that she didn’t know at all. But the one that was closest to her.
“Ceri? Ceridwen?” Tori said a little shocked since she had seen her nanny die in her arm. No this couldn’t be true, was it the fog or could it be insanity, she didn’t really know and a little part of her was glad to see Ceri. Tori didn’t know what to do since Ceri was holding her hand, but Tori need to get to her friends.
"Don't go. Please. There's still another way. You don't have to do this!"
A few tears fell from Tori’s face hearing Ceridwen telling her not to go and she was very torn. Tori knew that this was her choice alone and it was going to be a hard one to make since she wanted so badly to see her nanny again to say she was sorry.
"I am going, for someone must." Tori said and she was so very sorry Ceri even if Tori couldn’t say it. She was even felt bad to leave those that were also here with her nanny but Tori knew that this was the right choice since she wanted to protect those that couldn’t defend themselves.

“We can’t go back,” her eyes were focused on the gray door.
“I mean, we can, physically. Maybe, if this place really lets us. But…to go forward, I have a feeling we have to go through.” It made sense, really. The door was quite stubborn about being in her way if she tried to go around it. “When did my life become some kind of fantasy adventure story? Wait, don’t even answer that.” She’d signed up for this, after all.
Her head turned. She’d heard more voices in the fog. This time, it sounded like Tori. “Hard to tell, though,” she sighed, shaking her head. Someone was whispering at her near constantly.
“It helps me keep things straight, yeah. I don’t like this, Armagnac.” Her friends were missing in the fog, facing lord knows what, and her she was, alone, facing a door. “Well, let’s get on with it, then.” She reached one hand out and touched the doorknob.
She jumped as she heard the voice call out to her. She’d been expecting the door to do something, but she’d not been expecting anything from behind. She turned and gasped. Standing before her, was herself. She wore a white coat, but it was missing the hunter gold. She was clean, and crisp. No blood, no bandages, no pain. The other her reached out, and gently took her hand.
Armagnac growled.
“Don't go. Please.”
“What?” Sherry stared. She had met other versions of herself before, though that whole situation had been something else; she’d been a minipet. This Sherry, however…she recognized her. This was how she looked in the mirror.
“ There's still another way.”
“What?” Sherry repeated. Another way to way? To what? To help Tori? To help Jake? Another way around the door? Another way out of this place? She stared at herself, searching her own eyes. A pleading look was returned. Don’t go? Another way?
“You know that’s a lie,” Sherry told herself. “If I stop now, I’d be giving up. I can’t give up.” Sherry clasped the hand that had taken hers. “I have to help my friends. I have to help the other hunters. I have to save people. You know that. Or else I wouldn’t be standing here right now. And I've already messed up. Not just today, but before that, even. I have to fix it; I have to be better than I am. I made a promise to myself. I have to get stronger. I can’t back down now."
She gave the hands a squeeze. She, the real Sherry, was a bit afraid to walk through that door. But she couldn’t walk away. Not after everything she’d been through. Not after the people she’d met. It was like she’d told Jake earlier, she’d signed up to help people. To save and protect people. The only way she would be able to do that, would be to face the crap the world threw at her, get stronger, and move forward. “I want to help people. And I don’t even care if I die doing it.”
”You don't have to do this!”
Sherry smiled a small, bittersweet smile. “Except I do. If I don’t, maybe no one will. Or maybe someone will. I don’t know. But I do know, if I don’t go, somebody else will suffer. That's unacceptable. I am going, for someone must. Right now, that someone is me."

Not looking back, he gripped the doorknob firmly, and twisted. He felt the grip weaken, and he shut his eyes as he walked through the door. And then... nothing. Both the door and Catherine were gone.
He left out a shaky sigh, and let the weapons slip through his fingers, desummoning them. He told himself he was prepared to take anything that was coming his way, but now... he wasn't so sure.

Sherry gave herself one more small, sad smile. There was no turning back. Not now, not ever. She wasn't the same Sherry she'd been, and truth be told, she almost felt like she was saying goodbye to a piece of herself. Without a word she turned back to the door. The hand of her other self slipped from hers, and Sherry reached out to to grasp the doorknob. The door opened without a sound, quick and fluid. Sherry stepped through.
Fog. All she saw was fog. She turned, looking over her shoulder, she saw no door, no other Sherry. She was alone in the fog once more. Well, basically alone.
Armagnac crooned with approval.
"Thanks. Now to see about finding the others." Sherry stepped out into the fog.

It had been good to see her nanny again but Tori knew that this wasn't the real one since she had seen Cedi die, her heart still ached for Ceridwen since Tor cared so much for her and was like a mother to her. She was sorry once more Ceri, as more tears fell maybe one day Tori could say that she was sorry. Now she had to go to to what she thought was right.
Tori started to turn the nob of the door and she could feel the grip of her nanny weaken. The door made no noise as it opened up and the lifer walked though it. Tori looked around to see that the door was gone along with those that she had seen along with her nanny.
Yes! For I'm never alone with you by my side, Lin. Tori said as she wiped the tears from her face. Looking around more to find just more fog all around her.
Good idea! Tori replied to Aklin and stepped into the fog to find where the others had gotten.

And there it was. A hole in the ground....a hole that wasn't really a hole. Stairs.
"We go down them," Sherry cast a glance over shoulder. "And hope it leads us to the same place as the others."
It was too late to turn back now.
