Dear Journal,

I was too confidant today. Guess I let what Marcus said get to me too much. Even good dragon hunters need to remember that dragons are tough and dangerous. I won't forget again!

Dear Journal,

I was better at paying attention, I promise! But... I didn't see that other dragon sleeping nearby and when I attacked the dragon I did see, it roared and woke the other up. Oops. At least I got away before they could both get me!

Dear Journal,

Finally! I finally found won again! I made sure to pay attention and that there were no other dragons around and I won!! It was a tough battle, though... that was one tough dragon!!!

Dear Journal,

Ayrala dragons are tough!!! I was tired of fighting Ysali over and over so decided to travel to Ayr. That was a mistake!! Guess I need some more practice with Ysali first!

Dear Journal,

I decided to try Ayr again and had no better luck. Those Ayrala dragons are tough! I'll have to practice a lot more before I try them again...

Home again, home again

Samril had been busy between choosing his clan and sparring with Elleth and Kavanna and hunting down dragons. And then he had spent some time training after his failed trips to Ayr. But he had some downtime as he prepared to move up to Year 2 and felt that he should visit home once again. After all, it had been some time since his last trip and he couldn't wait to see their reactions to his clan choice. And so the young boy found himself traveling towards his parents' home in the Dwelling Place.

As he rounded the corner near the home, he could already hear his brothers and father playing outside. "Got you! Hahaha!" "Stop Nen! Hey, quit!" "Everyone get Tyne!!" "No fair!!!" "Hey, hey, hey, guys. Play fair now." "But Daaaad... hey!"

Samril slowed and came to a stop as the group of playful Peisio Dovaa came into sight. He shook his head slowly at their antics. He was the youngest, but they certainly weren't acting any older than him! And poor Tyne kept getting ganged up on by the older boys, though their father certainly tried to get everyone equally soaked.

They still hadn't noticed Samril and he grinned as he thought of a rather... shocking... way to get their attention. Electricity crackled off his fingertips and he made certain to send a very weak shock towards his family. After all, he didn't want to kill them.... at the moment, anyways.

"Yeowch!" "Hey!" "What was that?!" "Ooow!" The four oldest males danced for a moment as the shock went through their system. Tyne looked at them, startled and confused, then looked around. His eyes went wide as he saw his younger brother. "Samril!!!!" He ran towards the Kiandri Dovaa with a grin.

Samril grinned and waved to his closest-in-age brother. He'd purposely left Tyne out of his shock radius... or so he'd hoped. He was glad to see he'd managed it well. Lightning was fickle at times... as he'd learned in his practices.

Tyne took one look at Samril's eyes and then back to the older four, who were still wincing off the last of the shock. "Heh, thanks, brother. Kevlin likes to get them to gang up on me..."

"Should I shock him again?" Samril asked, grinning.

Tyne grinned back but before he could answer, the other four had finally shook off the shock and were coming over to the youngest two boys. "I think we should get them REALLY soaked now!!!" Kevlin shouted, angry at his youngest brother.

Samril let electricity crackle about his fingers once more. "Oh, I'd be careful, Kevlin... water conducts electricity really well... wouldn't want you to get hurt, now would we?"

Kevlin glared daggers at Samril, but their father burst out laughing. "Well, well, well. Seems Sammy here has picked his clan. Kiandri, huh? Well, it's not as good as Peisio, but-"

"CALDER! I BETTER NOT BE HEARING YOU PUT DOWN THE KIANDRI CLAN!"

Samril's father's face whitened and he turned to his spouse. "N-no, dear. Not at all. Kiandri is a very good clan. Very good clan indeed."

His wife smiled at her husband as she drew even with the group. "That's right. I'd hate for Samril here to accidentally lose control and zap you a good one. Though, perhaps he could zap some sense into you..."

"Heh... heh... no need for that, dear... Right Sammy?"

Samril rolled his eyes at his father's behavior. He was then caught up in a hug from his mother. "I'm glad you found your clan, Samril." She turned to the group at large. "Lunch is almost ready, so go dry off, boys. Too bad Samril isn't an Aryala Dovaa... you'll just have to use towels, boys." She shooed and herded the wet Peisio Dovaa towards the house while Samril brought up the rear.

Just see if his brothers picked on him again! Samril grinned at the thought.

Dear Journal,

The Kiandri are tough!! I was lucky to get out of there alive... I think my classmates were lying when they talked about fighting these dragons!! Or they're much tougher than I am... Perhaps I should practice more.

Needs more practice

It had taken Samril a while to recover from the desert and his encounter with the group of Kiandri. He suspected that his classmates had been lying about their own battles with the electric dragons, but he had no proof of that, of course. And so, with an afternoon free, he made his way to the field that Kavanna had shown him. Here was where he'd finally chosen his clan and he found himself returning again and again to practice there. Perhaps he kept hoping to run into Kavanna again and spar her now that he had chosen a clan, but he had yet to see the Ysali Dovaa.

And here he'd returned once more to practice his abilities. Some of the trees near the edge of the field bore scars from his previous practices. He'd been a bit dangerous until he'd gotten control over the lightning abilities he'd gained. Lightning was a fickle thing and not the easiest to control. He still found himself shocking friends accidentally when he touched them. Of course, he purposely shocked his brothers whenever he got the chance...

Samril gave his head a bit of a shake, returning his thoughts to the here and now. He was here to practice so he could defeat a Kiandri dragon, not sit and think! The boy paced for a moment, letting electricity crackle across his fingers. He'd seen some Dovaa with clawed gloves that could channel their abilities and was considering looking into getting some for himself. He did like the hand-to-hand combat like in his spars with Elleth, though magic wasn't that bad, really.

Deciding to practice a bit in case he did decide to get some clawed gloves for himself, Samril stepped up to a rather large tree. Keeping the electricity in his fists was difficult as he started to punch. The motions were familiar, but things were different too. He could keep it going for a few punches and then the crackling would die out and he'd have to stop and get his fists charged again. This was not quite as easy as he'd thought it might be.

Before long, his knuckles were showing signs of abuse from the tree and Samril moved back, switching to a ranged magic practice like he'd done before. Soon bolts of lightning were darting across the field from one target to the next.

Samril kept it up until he finally, panting, fell to his knees in the grass. Residual electricity crackled in the air around him as he tried to catch his breath. That... was pretty cool! He'd managed some distance on a few of those bolts and there were a few shattered tree branches around the edge of the field now.

As he regained composure, Samril shifted to sit more comfortably. He did want to try one last thing that he'd heard of from some of the others in his clan. They said that one could charge themselves with electricity like the Kiandri dragons did. He hadn't been entirely sure what was meant by that until he'd seen the Kiandri himself. They'd had electricity dancing upon the spines of their backs. So... he could do that too?

His breathing evened and Samril closed his eyes, thinking and pushing that electrical energy around. He'd mostly just channeled it outwards as lightning or sparks, but this would require him to keep it channeled on the surface of his skin. It took him a few tries, but finally Samril opened his eyes and could see arcs of electricity dancing across his arms, legs, and torso. He'd done it. COOL!

Dear Journal,

Ugh, dragons mating... I couldn't find a dragon alone anywhere and when I thought I had, I really hadn't. There was one flying right overhead of the one I attacked... At least they didn't chase me!

Dear Journal,

I did it. I won against a Kiandri again! This is fun! I can't wait to show these two orbs to my brothers. It took them forever to beat a Kiandri dragon!!!

Dear Journal,

Another Kiandri dragon down. These are getting a bit boring and I hate the desert. I really don't want to try a Firani yet, though...
