And now a blue. Not just a blue but a Blue Dragonet, capital letters practically visible from the moment he made his explosive entry into the world. And a scrapper as well. Though the dragonets were coming under the pall of a bad circumstance, they certainly didn't seem diminished in spirits at all. Something for which the Weyr would be grateful, Cormeric thought. Hoped. Believed. His smile only widened when the bronze pushed past his brother and kept on, and then when the blue recovered with such dignity and ... well, yes, pride. His fears melted away bit by bit and he settled into a more comfortable stance. Wait and see.

Roscoe's attention was almost entirely taken up by the bronze if he was being honest and while the blue was both large and pretty it still wasn't the one Roscoe wanted to see the most and when the blue huffed and headed off towards the girls he all but forgot him for the time being his attention returning to the bronze as he continued on his way once more unimpeded.

The small squeeze that was returned just before their hands retracted kept the faint smile set onto her face, and then POW the shell that hide a little blue all but exploded in a flashy show of attention seeking. His cute trill and mannerisms caused Persephone to bounce up and down on the balls and heels of her sandal clad feet., she just couldn’t resist.

He was headed towards the girls! A loud squeal erupt from her soft pink lips and instantly her grape-stained hands shot to her mouth to help keep the noises that were bubbling up her throat from escaping. He was headed towards the girls! She was so very excited, she was suddenly overwhelmed to find out whom the little hatchlings chose as theirs.

The Quick Sparkle was blue? Huh. He was pretty big though--and also very charming to behold. Bit...well, hungry for attention? The egg'd been too, so that wasn't surprising, but the bronze wasn't having any of it. Bannen had to suppress a highly inappropriate laugh at the look on the blue's draconic face (and some people thought dragons were hard to read) before he stalked off towards the girls. That intrigued Bannen solely on account of he hadn't particularly noticed anyone really flashy amongst them, but maybe the blue'd pair with a shy girl... His attention shifted back to the bronze still headed the boys' way, curious to see how this would go, or who the dragon would Impress. It didn't really seem like this clutch would lack for bronzes, but who'd catch the attention of the first to hatch? Or would the blue beat his brother to the next goal and upstage the bronze with the first Impression of the early evening?

He hadn't been wrong in assuming that this dragonet would demand to be the center of attention. It was a bit amusing to see how the blue had tried to ambush his larger brother, but judging by the way that he was ignored this bronze was quite the elitist. Well, that wasn't unusual for such a high-ranking color he supposed. He was mildly curious though to see the young blue heading toward the girls. Either he was trying to recover his wounded pride by getting them to fawn on him, or they would be having a new female bluerider soon. ... Likely both.

Winderick learned his lesson at the last hatching and treated Yirath with all the respect and fear she deserved. Standing in the middle of the boys, he could hardly take his eyes off of her. The poor beast - he couldn't imagine what it was like to be so dependent on someone else that you would die without them. Sometimes he wondered if that was why the dragonets rejected him the last time he stood on the stands. He had always been an independent person and didn't like to get tangled up in other people's problems or other people in general. Despite being here for so long, he still didn't have many friends at the weyr. Though he did feel quite lonely at times his solitude didn't bother him for the most part. At least that was how he presented himself.

He watched as the quick sparkle hatchling headed toward the girls. Unlike the other boys in his group, he knew he had no hope of Impressing that bronze and watching the blue walk in the other direction was a great disappointment. At least this time the clutch was large. He stood a better chance of Impressing this turn, but found it hard to feel eager with the dying Queen towering over them, a grim reminder of what his future might hold if his dragon ever died on him. He wasn't sure if any love was worth so much suffering.

Nemmol's lips thinned but he sighed to release some of the irritation he felt when the Blue challenged his brother. That wasn't the way things worked in weyrs. Bronzes were supposed to be shown respect, not challenged by Blues, even proud Blues. There wasn't even a moment to question how the Bronze would respond, though, as he just mantled, braced himself and pushed right on through rather than going around the other dragonet. Nemmol was impressed with how well the Bronze handled the situation, especially since he was just out of the egg.

Nemmol shook his head as the Blue moved towards the females after his failed attempt at a confrontation with the Bronze. That looked like a Blue that was going to cause trouble. The Bronze, however, seemed to realize how foolish his sibling was being and didn't even look back once he'd barreled on by. Nemmol appraised him with a sharper eye. Yes, perhaps Weyrleader wasn't too far fetched for such a strong Bronze. Nemmol watched him with growing interest, though he tried not to hope too much that the dragon could be for himself. He didn't intend to be distracted by disappointment if the hatchling went to someone else.

Brynja's heart was beating a terrible sort of drumbeat against her chest. Alright, she would admit to herself, she was a little scared - mostly of the Queen. If she'd been a little terrifying at the touching, how much more was she now, all sad and alone? She could not pretend to be especially touched by the Weyrwoman's death - you couldn't mourn someone you didn't know from Faranth - but the sight of her dragon was about enough to make someone cry, poor thing. Well. When it wasn't enough to make you think twice about being here and wonder if you'd been to the loo before you started.

She hadn't been able to find Dezima in the confusion of changing (she'd thought she'd lost her robe or misplaced it for a long time, before finally finding and scrambling into it), and she couldn't see her here on the sands either. Alright, she'd appreciate a friendly face - the candidate felt like she barely knew a soul here - but she was fine with this. Honestly. Absolutely fine.

She was pretty much standing on her tip-toes so she could get a good look at the dragonets through the crowd, because they were - oh, that was mean. That bronze had just pushed the poor blue right out of the way! Couldn't he at least have stepped around or something?

Theeeere it was. Jordan grinned slightly as the Quick Sparkle exploded and made himself known as obnoxiously as possible. He nearly whistled. Challenging a Bronze was impressive. Jordan wasn't sure he would want a dragon that was so intent on getting attention, but a Blue was always a chance. Well, it was until the Blue determined-- without any question at all-- that it wanted to check out the girls. Bah.

Jordan sighed and looked around quickly for Pahlan again before searching for more cracking eggs among the Clutch. If the Blue was going to pick a girl, how many smaller eggs did that leave? Jordan's expression was a bit more calculating. His chances were still good, since it was early on, but not as good as some of the rest of the boys. These eggs were all huge. It was enough to have made Jordan question several times whether or not any were actually Greens, or if they were all just Bronzes, Browns and one or two big Blues. Before he'd reminded himself Clutches didn't happen that way, that is.

About four feet back from the male candidates and dead in the middle of the front line the bronze paused, a low hum thrumming out of his throat as he studied them. There was no uncertainty in his demeanour, only careful evaluation. Either his choice was already made but he just hadn't announced it yet and to take this time to study the ones he would not go with, or he was just utterly confident that His was here somewhere and that he would find them before long.

Over by the girls the blue was still giving the odd chirp or trill. Unlike his brother he was trotting up and down along the line, turning this way and that to show them all every inch of his beautiful hide. He was the best, the very best of all of them and surely these ladies could appreciate beauty when they saw it! What he required though was no simple appreciation, anyone with eyes would give him that. What he required was... what he needed was... Her!

Kanen remained still beside his brother as the young bronze seemed to evaluate the lot of them, but his eyes glanced over occasionally at the blue walking through the girls' ranks. He wasn't particularly hopeful of being impressed by this particular dragonet, so he didn't see a reason to give it all of his attention... handsome though he was. All, it looks like the blue has Impressed, he noted to himself, catching the way that the dragonet was looking at Brynja in particular. Good, the first happy pair on the Sands for the day. He hoped that the rest of the Hatching would go just as smoothly... considering the ill fate that everyone knew was coming at the end. Poor poor Yirath...

The bronze was very close now, and Bannen had no doubt he knew exactly where he was headed, one way or the other. Still, he couldn't help but look over to the vocal blue, who seemed to be making rather more of a show of finding His. And as Bannen had expected, the blue, though the slower to hatch, lived up to the impatience of the feel of its egg at the Touching and made Impression first. A lady bluerider...it was always interesting to have them about.

He took a brief glance at the eggs, then it was back to waiting for the bronze's choice to be made. He spared another glance towards his brother, who seemed to be holding up well despite the tension in the air and the state of Yirath. Now that the first Impression had been made, and many more to follow, hopefully the mood would ease a bit and this might yet become something of a happy, if perhaps bittersweet, occasion.

Jordan glanced over in time to catch the Impression look on the girl's face. It was a reasonably far distance from one side of the Clutch to another, but Jordan's eyes were good enough to at least catch her body language as a reaction and some of her initial facial expression. He'd seen that look from a distance and up close before, so he would have known it when he saw it, even if the Blue hadn't made such a point of making his Impression obvious.

Why weren't any of the other eggs doing more than shifting slightly? It seemed as if these two were really outstripping their Clutchmates.

Nemmol had dismissed the Blue. He could see if he Impressed a girl or a boy later. The Bronze was surveying the boys now, skipping some in a way that Nemmol took to mean they were unsuitable at a very basic level and studying others. Nemmol wasn't sure if this was the look of a dragon who was making a deliberate choice, or one who was sizing up the competition for when he finally announced his choice to his rider. Either one made perfect sense to Nemmol, really, though he didn't dare look over to inspect his own peers. The Bronze took all of his focus.

Now was not the time for putting others at ease; it was the time to focus on his own goals. His own needs. He'd been preparing for this for Turns, after all. What kind of thanks would it be to those who had helped him learn about the responsibilities of a good, useful rider if he walked away empty handed or with a dragon that couldn't rank as anything? That thanks might not be embodied in this little Bronze, but it would have to be embodied at some point. Nemmol had worked for this too hard to admit that fate could deal him a hand like that.

Roscoe waited patiently as the bronze took his time in choosing - the blue had predictably run over and made his choice in the same rushed fashion that he had burst from his egg, cheeky little beast that he seemed to be that hardly surprised Roscoe - but it was the bronze that still held the most of his attention, as he was sure it was holding the attention of all his fellow male candidates as well.
