[Hollow point] FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I HAVE THE ******** DEFINITION OF NU METAL UP TOP!@ fearsKLOWNS- sorry man i know they arent nu metal now, i posted that before I posted the definition. The Definition:Nu Metal- Nu metal (or aggro metal) is a controversial subgenre of heavy metal music. It sometimes bears some influence to hip-hop, because rhythmic innovation and syncopation are primary. Nu metal bands also feature aggressive vocals (either rapped, shouted, or sung), drop-tuned guitars that are clean or distorted, (with riffing similiar to the Seattle scene of the early 1990's) a funk-based rhythm section, and occassional DJ techniques such as turntables and sampling Jesus. why define music? because it fits the supposed definition it has to be in the genre? Anthrax used a DJ... does that make Anthrax nu-metal? No. Slipknot has a DJ, yes. But they're DJ is used in a very subversive & non-orthodox manner. Besides, according to that definition, alot of bands that aren't necessarily nu-metal, would fall in the category... even bands like Cradle of Filth & Sepultura. Your definition doesn't define nu-metal as a sub-genre of metal. It defines the metal genre as nu-metal.

The Definition does not define the entire genre, it points at a exact group, bands like Slipknot, I dont think it points at Anthrax and bands like them more toward new bands.

KoRn isnt nu-metal, they originated with a more rap hip hop tune with there first album "Follow The Leader" but now their new albums have moved far away from it. Songs like "Freak on a Leash," "f*****t," and "Y'all want a single" make sure you can tell they arent Nu-Metal, songs like that are about a heavy metal as you can get.

"Follow the Leader" was NOT their 1st album. Their self-titled was. "Follow the Leader" was their 3rd album... jeezus. feckin kids... On top of that, Mr. Definition of Nu Metal is defining Slipknot as nu-metal solely on the fact that they have a DJ. Have you head Iowa?!? or for that matter most of their first, self-titled album? Anything but nu-metal. If I had to call it something, it'd be along the lines of thrash/death metal... or maybe metal-core. but not nu-metal. Infact, they're very remenicent of early thrash bands, such as Death Angel & Violence.

GodofPyros Ok, 3 things. 1: Slipknot is more heavy metal then Nu-Metal 2: Disturbed is definately not a rock band, they are also heavy metal. 3: Powerman5000 isnt nu-metal! Anybody who has ever listened to their music would know that they are techno metal. PS: Slipknot and Stone Sour are definately not the same band. Ah..... Makes me nestalgic to see posts like that.... Metal Forum all over again. 1: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest are Heavy Metal. If you still think Slipknot belongs to them, you don't belong here. 2: """"""""""""""""""""" Disturbed """"""""""""" 3: Powerman 5000 is a prime example of Nu-metal? Who let you in here? o.O;;;;

Anyone who considers Slipknot metal knows nothing about metal. But you're right, somewhat. They WERE metal. Long before you knew them. A little album known as Kill, Feed, Mate, Repeat was made before Corey Taylor joined the band, and that album could have been considered metal in some ways. Nu-metal is characterised by simplistic instrumentals, hip-hop influences, heavy distortion, and lots of repitition. Pretty much perfectly discribes them. lol
