"A trickster's smile"

He didn't have to keep his eyes on the screen for long, already aware of what they were going to say. Instead, he finished up his sandwich, chuckling at the boy's words as the broadcast continued. Honestly, Shin had quite a bit of money saved up. Large companies, corporations paid very well, especially for the valuable things the Haunter sold to them. After doing this for years, taking money as payment often enough, he had saved up an overwhelming amount of it. He only loosely kept track of it, but if he wanted to..he could probably do some pretty damaging things to all of the leading companies that he loosely worked with here and there. The only real thing stopping him from doing it was that it wouldn't be much fun for him, and he had no real reason to. Shin wasn't money hungry or greedy, in that sense. Instead, he lived for fun and fulfilling his simple desires, nothing complicated or 'world dominating' sort to speak.

Shin glanced over at the boy again once the tv was turned off, listening to his question and chuckling at his outburst. Really, his reactions were some of the best, even his simple ones. The Haunter was never bored with him, even if the boy himself was. He did stop to think for a moment though, trying to come up with something at least a little amusing, though the Rattata's taste in 'amusement' was obviously far different from his own. His mobility was pretty limited with the wound in his side, so he couldn't really do his normal antics and try and surprise the boy as he usually did, or maneuver around thrown punches or kicks that may come his way.

His eyes darted back to the boy as he sent out a sort of threat, raising an eyebrow out of amusement. That was when the strange atmosphere started showing itself again, and he started noticing strange things. It wasn't immediately, it was slow, but Shin started feeling a little strange again. His back just about went rigid, internally starting to struggle with things he'd never really had to deal with before, or felt. The Haunter's red eyes were focused on the gold ones looking back at him, and he really looked at them for once. They were actually a very lovely shade of gold, an unusual color that Shin didn't often see. And, they held a mature stare that was beyond the boy's years, but it was one that really only showed itself in a business like fashion.

He found himself curious. Shin reached over after a moment, sliding a few fingers gently down one of the boy's cheeks with a hand, that strange electric feeling shooting up his arm, though not as intense as it had been in the bathroom earlier. The Haunter found himself wondering if the boy could actually make more innocent expressions, one that weren't weighed down by 'work' and 'responsibility'. That's all Shin ever really saw from his 'boss', aside from his temper and the rare gentle side he seemed to show almost no one. The boy's skin was soft, as soft as it looked, and Shin's eyelids lowered just a bit, staring back at the boy. What was this feeling? He almost felt like doing something forceful, but at the same time wanted to be gentle.

His fingertips slide over and down some of the hair that framed the boy's face, finding their way down and under the boy's chin, a familiar movement. Except, this time, he reached down a little further, sliding his index finger slowly up from just below the boy's adam's apple, and back up to his chin, almost experimentally. The boy's skin really was quite soft, almost alluring, and Shin didn't realize it but he was starting to slowly lean closer towards the Rattata. He felt almost in a trance, his mind stopped thinking about it's usual tricks or work, and instead it seemed to focus on the sensations arising in his body and the ones felt on his fingertips. It was focused on 'touch' and 'feel', taking in the small details.

He saw the man reach forward slowly, placing his finger tips against his skin. Strangely enough, the boy didn't pull back or retaliate like he did before. Instead, he froze. Like the situation he was in the night before, his mind went blank. He didn't know why he didn't react to the man's touch. For some reason unknown to the boy, his body just wouldn't move. The feeling was back, it was exactly the same atmosphere he had experienced before in the bathroom. He was afraid of it but here it was again, the strange sensation the both of them felt a little while ago. His breathing deepened and his eyes narrowed a little, taking into account the gentle fingers of the Haunter. The man wasn't rough, he was careful, gentle. It was a side of him the boy had only noticed when they weren't so busy fighting over things or arguing with each other and he had started to like it. And as the man's hand trailed lower from his chin, then back up again, he couldn't help but let out a soft moan, wincing at the ticklish feeling. He felt his lips tremble and it was getting harder to regulate his breathing, his eyes were now tightly shut, afraid to look at the man. It wasn't a pleasant feeling but it wasn't bad either. It was just... uncomfortable. "Sh-Shin..." Taroro panted out softly, oblivious to what he had just said. The feeling was too overwhelming. He couldn't concentrate anymore, allowing the feeling of sensation take over.

Everything was blocked out of his mind and the boy didn't know how he felt exactly about what was happening. Even if it was somewhat similar to what had happened in the bathroom before, the situation felt tenser, denser and more constricting. A familiar sound broke through the silence, ringing loudly, cutting the boy off from his daze. Immediately, he broke off from his trace, pulling himself away from the Haunter and off the bed, reaching into his pocket. Relieved, he glanced at the cellphone, then flipped it open, placing it beside his ear. "H-Hello...?" His voice was a little shaky in the beginning but it slowly returned back to normal. So did his breathing. Taroro had never felt so happy with receiving a phone call from one of the staff members from the cafe where he worked at. Usually, the boy would simply hangup on them but this time was different, very.

"You're where?!" He raised his voice, surprised and annoyed at the same time at the reply his caller had given him. "Nngh... Go away. I'm not in the mood to play with you today." And as he said that, a knock came from the hotel door. Sure enough, his 'friend' had followed him back to the hotel from before. "Ta-ro-ro~ Open up! Don't tell me you've finally found a girl to hit around with, hmm? I want to know what kind of girl's your ty-" The boy reached the door before his colleague could finish off his disturbing statement and slammed hard at the door with his fist. He couldn't allow the guy to find out who he was with. After all, he would probably recognize the Haunter from his 'temporary job' before. "I said go away!" The Rattata's voice was stern and commanding as usual, maybe even more. He tried to release the tension in him and threw it out in that scolding. The boy had expected a reply of some sort, but nothing came back. It fell silent for a moment and the boy got curious.

He unlocked the door, peeping out of the crack in between the opening. The man wasn't there, so he thought. In a matter of seconds, he felt the door push towards him, falling backwards. His colleague pushed through the door, jumping over the poor boy and pinning him down to the ground. "Ha. Still as weak as usu-" The man paused, noticing another presence in the room, he turned his heads towards the Haunter.
Taroro felt something thug in his heart, he was going to get found out.

The hair on the back of his neck suddenly stood on end at the sound of the moan that escaped the boy's lips. His heart was pounding harder than usual, and his stare became far more observant than it was. The amount of details he was taking in increased and were suddenly almost as sharp as glass. His senses were more alert, sharp, and the predatory side from earlier was starting arise again. He was still leaning closer as the boy panted out his name, about to give in to whatever was compelling him to act the way he was. Just as his lips were but a few inches away from the boy's, his mind adding in a
"Cute," at his eyes being so tightly shut, a sudden sound went off. A cellphone was ringing, though, vaguely, Shin took note of the fact that it wasn't his.

He had to blink a few times, retracting his hand and returning to his position of leaning against the headboard as the boy pulled himself away from the Haunter. Part of him was greatly appreciating the conveniently timed phone call, another part of him was glaring daggers at the device. Shin couldn't make sense of what he was doing, even as his mind was starting to return to him. He was behaving strangely, even for himself, and the boy's reactions to his behavior only aided it. He found himself feeling strange urges, feeling more serious and 'intense' than usual. Most of the time, Shin was never 'intense', really only behaving like that in dire situations. But this wasn't a 'dire situation', it was..what could he call it exactly? He tried to think of some way to sort it out in his head, at least give it a name, but nothing was coming to mind. He was confused with himself and the whole situation, but he found that he wasn't rejecting it, for the most part.

His eyes darted up at the sound of the boy's raised voice, then to the door at the sudden knock.
"Is that the interruption?" he thought to himself, 'burning a hole' into the door with an unusually serious stare. The side of him that didn't like the interruptions was temporarily a bit uncontrollable, and he was a little glad that the boy wasn't seeing him as he currently was. Whatever it was that was transpiring between the two of them, he could feel it starting to build up somewhere inside of him. It was a brief thought, a brief concern, but for a moment he was genuinely worried about when and how long it would take until that build up finally boiled over, exploded. What would he do? How would he react? If he was confused now, those thoughts certainly didn't lessen any in the level of confusion.

One of the staff members eventually pounced on the boy, and part of Shin wanted to tear the man to pieces for being on top of the Rattata in such a way, which he couldn't understand either. Was he...jealous? Whatever he was feeling, he quickly tried to push it aside, turning the glare he had aimed at the man into a seemingly friendly smile.
"Looks like you found us~" he said lightly when the man finally took note of the Haunter sitting on the bed. Internally, however, he was strangely quite...annoyed at the sudden guest.

"...Taroro...Isn't..isn't that the Haunter that stops by the shop every now and then..?" the man asked, eyes making their way back to his fellow staff's face, confused. "Why is he here? And what's with that bandage? What is going on?" he questioned, his expression even more confused. "I thought you were sneaking off with a girl! What is this?" he finished, eventually standing back up.

The boy moved away quickly as the man over him stood up from his position, releasing the boy. Then blinking at the guy for a brief moment, the Rattata started to ponder over his statements. How was he going to answer a question like that...? He couldn't say that the Haunter was a girl either since obviously, with his shirt still off, that excuse would be useless. Furthermore, the staff member definitely remembered the purple haired man. The boy stayed silent for a moment, unsure about the best answer for this unexpected situation. If he were to say something wrong, everything he had earned and gained up till now, would be sitting on thin ice. One mistake was all it took to break it. He saw the staff member's mouth open again, ready to question the boy even more. But before he could, the boy cut in, " It's not what you think." was all that came out. His mind was still foggy with the thoughts of before and nothing came out right.

"But he's not fully dressed! A-and you're in a hotel room together! What else could it be?!" The man cried, pointed his finger in the direction of the Haunter. Of course, the man wasn't aware of the kind of relationship the boy had with the Haunter, so the misunderstanding was expected. Sighing, Taroro turned the man over so he faced the door and started to push him out, whether he wanted to or not. He didn't feel like they needed to explain their current situation to someone who wasn't involved in the business. Outsiders like him, only cause more problems and confusions. Besides, the Rattata couldn't figure out how to reply to the question, feeling himself blush, what the man had thought, was now partially true. His eyes remained fixed onto the ground, while with all his strength, he forced his colleague out of the door, trying to hide his now cherry blushed face.

Slamming the door behind the staff member, he leaned his back against it in relief. That was too close for comfort. Listening for a response from the man, the boy waited patiently, his ears against the door. The only sounds he heard were the sounds of footsteps, then a vibration from his mobile phone. Curious, he picked it up, only to receive a message reading, "By the way, your father came over~" From the staff member who had just been kicked out of the room by the now speechless boy. Turning his attention to the Haunter who was still sitting on the bed, he was too worried to even think about the contact he had made between the man just awhile ago.
His father... that wasn't a good sign. What if the man was sent here by his father? Knowing his old man, he could get anything he wanted with a snap of a finger, even turn the boy's friends against him. Taroro narrowed his eyes to the ground, staring intensely at nothing. He knew he would be in big trouble now and at the risk of loosing Shin as well, which made it even more troubling to him.

The Haunter merely watched the man's continuous question with amusement, raising an eyebrow at some point. He was going to try and throw out a plausible response, for both his and the Rattata's sake, but the boy shoved the man out the door before he could. He chuckled a bit to himself, rummaging through the bag on the bedside table to fish out the other half of the sandwich that he had eaten earlier. Shin took a bite, finishing it rather quickly, almost as a mild distraction to get his mind and body to return to normal.

His eyes darted back to the boy, immediately noticing the worried look on his face. Normally, he wouldn't be bothered by it, but his 'boss' had never worn that expression the whole time he'd known him so far. So, naturally, Shin became a bit more alert, as well as curious.
"What is it?" he finally asked, raising an eyebrow from where he still sat against the headboard. After he stopped to think about it for a moment, though, a few things came to mind that could possibly make the boy look so troubled. One of them was that he was possibly fired from his job, which was the least likely since Shin had already taken care of that business earlier. Another, was that someone he was close to had passed away, which was also unlikely but not impossible. The fact that it could have been his father he completely overlooked, as the Haunter had determined he was too...boring for him to really think of on a daily basis. If he had to think about the man more than necessary, he was pretty sure his mind wouldn't be able to take it.

Shin didn't move, not that he really could. It wouldn't do anything if he sat up or walked over to the boy, but he didn't avert his eyes from him, waiting for an answer to his curiosity. Whatever strange mood he had been in prior to the interruption was gone for the most part, and he was back to his usual self. His wound had stopped shooting pain through his side a while ago, but it was still sore. When he didn't move at all it only ached a bit, but whenever he did move he was made aware of it once more. It was still healing, but the rate of it's healing was fairly decent. Shin had never really been seriously wounded like this before, but he knew his recovery rate was a little on the impressive side. Though, at times, he would just make things worse for himself since he had the hardest time sitting still for long periods of time.

The boy was still immersed in the consequences of the message the staff member had sent. Still staring blankly at the space in front of him, he didn't hear the Haunter. In fact, nothing else worried the boy more than getting punished by his father but this time around, he was even more worried about something else. He couldn't believe it himself but apparently, he was afraid of loosing Shin. He bit his lip, hard, forcing himself out of his anxiety. The taste of cold iron soon found it's way into his mouth, a crimson droplet trickled from his lips. "I'll be right back..."
Standing up without saying another word, he turned the doorknob, dashing out of the room. His face now painted black with all sorts of anger. Right now, his mind was only fixed on one thing, 'to get to that a** of a person he thought he had called his friend.' Hopefully, before he reached his father instead. He was now even more confused than ever. There were feelings swelling up inside of him, the boy felt like he was going to burst. They were unknown to him and they were painful. Whatever he felt, he compressed them into anger. He couldn't wait to get his hands on that man, thinking if he should strangle him to death.

Taroro ran towards the familiar direction, as fast as his legs would take him. Fueled by the anger he was keeping within himself right now, he didn't stop for anything. He couldn't. There wasn't any time to stop or slow down. The cafe was soon in sight, coming in closer and so was the staff member who had so casually strolled into the cafe while he was only less than half a kilometer away. However, as he got closer, a familiar figure stepped out. That's right, it was the big boss, his father. Well dressed in a suit where ever he went, the man was fitted in a dark, black one today. His hand tapping on his cell phone as he stood there, waiting for the boy like a deadly trap. The Rattata stopped in his tracks, afraid to get any closer. Lowering his head, allowing his long fringe to cover his eyes as he glared at the floor with his golden eyes. He was furious, not only at the staff but at himself. How could he have let this happened? The boy gritted his teeth and clenched his fists but honestly, it wasn't enough to relieve the amount of anger he felt towards himself.

"Come here boy." The man demanded, his voice was still as strict as the Rattata could remember. Putting his hands on his waist, he waited for the boy. The boy had no choice but to oblige to the man's orders. If he refused, the punishment would be worse than what he would be getting right now. As he walked towards the man, a black sleek car pulled up beside the man and he motioned the boy to get in. "We will talk about that Haunter friend of yours when we get home." His cold voice made the boy flinch, holding his breath. The man had found out about the Haunter already. It was too late for anything now...

He never got an answer to his question. Instead, the boy had ran out of the apartment, though not without looking noticeably agitated. Before he could reply, the boy was gone, and Shin was left sitting there on the bed blinking a bit. His face turned more serious after a moment, staring at the open doorway of the hotel room as he thought to himself. He'd never seen the Rattata act that way before, which means there was something new going on that he wasn't made aware of. His mind raced, trying to come up with some sort of hint or clue, even an answer as to what it could be, but he was drawing a blank.

After waiting for a few moments, the Haunter decided he wasn't going to sit around and wait for the boy to return. Whatever was going on seemed to be important, and as it involved his 'boss', and himself, he decided he was going to throw himself into the middle of whatever 'it' was. It wasn't Shin's style to stay back and watch on the sidelines or duck his tail and run. No, Shin always jumped into the middle of everything, it was just in his nature, and that wouldn't change just because of a bullet wound.

He gradually managed to stand up, glad that it was easier than last night, though he still wasn't in what one would call 'great shape' to be moving around. Shin collected his things, carefully pulling his shirt back on, as well as his belts and coat. He tossed the remainders of the food that the boy had brought into a nearby trash, as well as the medic kit and any bandages that were laying out. He was pretty sure he wouldn't be coming back to the hotel room, so he disposed of the remnants of their things and made his way to the hotel door, stepping out of the room and shutting it behind him.

Shin wasn't exactly sure where to go after he'd made it out of the hotel's parking lot, pausing for a moment to glance around in case the boy actually was coming back. After not seeing or hearing any sign of his 'boss', he turned and started heading towards the cafe, his hand on his bandaged wound. It was a little painful to walk, but he managed, and he figured the cafe was probably the best place to start looking since the man that had stopped by the hotel room was one of the staff. It took a while with his unusually slow pace, a little annoyed at that fact, but he finally made it to the familiar shop, opening the door and stepping inside.

The man was there, the same man that had found the two. He was idly 'chit chatting' with some of the customers, acting as if nothing had happened. Shin made his way over to the guy, catching him as he was heading back towards the kitchen.
"Where's Taro?" he asked, using the nickname for the boy that he only ever used when he was serious. "Taroro? I don't know, he's not here," the man replied nonchalantly. Shin could tell he was hiding something, and for some reason his patience was particularly thin today, his mood far less than 'humorous'. He reached over and grabbed the man's shirt collar, pulling him a little closer, "I don't have the patience to play with you. Where. Is. Taro." he said again roughly, glaring a bit at the man. He really wasn't in a good mood, which was unusual, but he couldn't help it. Something felt wrong to him, and oddly enough, he felt...worried about the boy.

The staff member paused briefly, looking a little nervous at the Haunter's unusually serious expression and tone of voice. "He-his father came by and picked him up not too long ago," the man replied, a little stiff. The customers of the cafe were staring at the two, even the other waiters and the shop owner as well. Shin released the man, shoving him back a bit and turned back around, walking over and exiting the cafe without another word. He knew the Rattata's father, he knew where to find him, and he knew that the two of them were no longer able to keep their 'contract' a secret from the man.

The Haunter was texting something on his phone in his pocket with his free hand, the other still on his bandaged wound. He didn't have to see the keys to know what he was doing. He was making 'preparations', and he almost had them finished when a black car pulled up to his side, parking close to the curb. A few men in black suits and black sunglasses stepped out, stopping to stand in the space between Shin and the car. It was like one of those animes you'd see where a mob boss or CEO would send his men after someone, except these ones weren't attacking or surrounding the Haunter. "Mr. Shin, we'd like you to come with us," one of the men said, expressionless, "the boss has requested your presence at his current residence." He paused for a moment, but smirked soon after, grinning a little.
"Oh really~?" he teased, a little amused and a little annoyed at the same time, "I guess I'll oblige."
