"Is this where I ask WHAT your usual type is Mr. Vari?"Kaito drawled in easy confidence, having missed the easy banter. It was strange how one day could lock a behaviour so deeply. He'd never cared to interact with anyone before, no matter how intelligent because frankly they were boring. Something about Jack managed to draw the eye and the attention. For instance the messy buisness look was certainly holding Kaito's attention at that moment. The tie loosened just so drawing his attention towards his chest and neck in a way that had him feeling a little hot in his own, still pristine, uniform.

"So pleased to be the exception, more of my amazing good luck I suppose."He responded in a deadpan, thought the edge of his lip might have twitched up slightly at the faked seriousness that Jack was trying to pull off. Given he was doing so with his usual self-confidence and that slight smirk that made Kaito's fingers itch ever so slightly for his notepad. He had a feeling that Jack's smile was going to be gracing his pictures for some time to come, something memorable and easy to draw in them.

The blue haired artists attention sharpened, focusing completely on the red-head whose last comment was filled with enough heat to make the butterflies erupt in Kaito's stomach even before Jack suddenly closed the distance between them and captured his lips. A small sigh slipped from the artists lips into Jack's as he obediently opened his lips for the red-head with what amounted to a complete thaw. His eyes sliding closed as he pressed back into the kiss to add his own pressure. He knew on more than one level that he shouldn't be here but he'd given up fighting against it and would just have to fight to protect it.

“Not unless you want me to turn the question around, Doc,” Jack smirked. Because it really didn’t matter what his type used to be. And while he was a little curious about the kind of guy that had attracted Kaito’s eye in the past, he had a feeling thinking about it for too long would only piss him off. Or make him possessively jealous when that kind of guy was around. Er, even more so than usual. To the point of potential violence towards that type if they even looked at what Jack wanted to keep for himself. That was just the way he worked. And he had a feeling punching strangers would eventually get on Kaito’s nerves. More importantly, they might land him in jail. Judges didn’t always try seventeen year olds as adults, but they could, especially if there was violence involved.

Why would he or Kaito bother imagining what other choice they could have made when it was so much more fun to concentrate on capturing that little sound escaping Kaito’s lips? Or find that special flavor that was Kaito beyond the faint taste of mouthwash and toothpaste that was inevitable in someone so meticulously groomed. Jack found it highly entertaining to note that both inside and outside you had to get past the cold to find what you really wanted with the boy. And more than anything he wanted to focus on how Kaito was kissing him back. He didn’t have to demand with his lips or his tongue (he did anyway, but he didn’t have to) or surprise Kaito into a kiss. He could give one instead of stealing it. Not that he would stop that either. But the change, the change was nice.

A parade of elephants could have driven past Jack and he might not have noticed, completely wrapped up in Kaito as he drew his arm around the slightly shorter boy, the other getting lost in soft blue hair behind the other’s ear. This felt way too good. He wasn’t used to losing himself in someone like this. But as always impulse ruled judgment and if Kaito had been against the wall instead of in the doorway he would have found himself trapped between it and Jack by then. Breathing seemed very unimportant.

"That would require me to HAVE a type."Kaito's tone was simple and flat. He'd never found anyone attractive before, generally he found them below notice even. It was simple, someone existed to either serve him or be ignored. At least until Jack, for some reason he shattered every line of defense the blue haired boy had ever even pretended to possess. He found himself giving and doing things he never would have imagined he would just to draw out his roommate a little more. It was a dangerous combination for someone like him, because when his mouth was possessively claimed he would have given Jack anything he asked for and been able to deliver. He likely wouldn't have even thought twice about it.

The tongue brushing along his tasted faintly of tobacco, toothpaste, and ash. Before he'd gone to this school he would have firmly been on the side that such a combination was likely disgusting. Then again, he would have been in the same boat for bodily contact of any kind. And as he was wrapped tighter into the taller male he found he couldn't complain about that part either. The artists hands lifting to settle comfortably on the tops of the blue slack pants Jack was wearing. His head tilting naturally to give the other boy a better angle as he let him lead. With only TV to guide him in how this was to be done it was easier simply to let Jack have control. A fact that was unique for a male who usually controlled so much in his life.

However, there was real life problems to be dealt with. The least of which was breathing... with a sound that might have been regret Kaito leaned back away from the warmth radiating off the male in front of him. He needed to tell him about dinner, they had to get ready, and he had to be in more control of himself than he was at that moment because he could tell from the glowing sensation his shields were well and truly cracked. Slate blue orbs lifted to a hazy half-mast as he instinctively licked along his lips to chase the last of the taste lingering there.

“Redheads?” Jack suggested against Kaito’s lips, half a moment of breath that wasn’t really enough as the kiss continued. Somewhere in the back of his mind part of the possessive thread that had wound its ways straight from the touch of Kaito’s skin into his blood twisted and became protective. He felt like he wanted to protect the boy in his arms who always walked like he could move the world but was proven human in a few stolen moments and touches. Which was stupid. Kaito could have snapped his fingers and had ten assassins and the national guard ready for a hangnail if he’d wanted. After seeing him in action Jack bore no illusions about the kind of worldly power the navy eyed boy had at his disposal. Maybe if Jack had anything to loose or gain in that world he would have been like the people tripping over themselves not to offend Kaito, but as far as he could see, Kaito was the only one in the higher social circles worth a thing. But the instinct was there and felt like it was settling in for the long haul.

When the kiss broke Jack bent his head, leaning lightly against Kaito’s shoulder for a moment longer. He didn’t care what this young man projected. Here this close to him, where he could feel the soft skin of the boy’s neck and his body behind the suit, Kaito was warm. He nuzzled the spot for a moment, childishly reluctant to pull away. But he did finally, in time to see the haze still giving Kaito’s eyes a look that Jack just knew was going to torture him in his dreams later. b*****d probably didn’t even know what he looked like when he was like that. The small flash of pink against lips was too much and Jack groaned as he stole another kiss then pulled back with a laugh.

“Keep doing that and they’ll have to beat the damn door down to get us out,” he rolled his eyes. Someone like Kaito shouldn’t be able to look that sexy. God damn it. The boy had absolutely everything else, did he really have to do that perfectly too? He was starting to understand all those stupid fairytales about someone locking a princess up for their own freaking protection. If Kaito did that once in public he was going to have everything from suitors to stalkers and Jack could only hit so many people before he collapsed in exhaustion.

Jack turned and found the mini fridge. Not his dime, right? And he really wanted something cold. Immediately. He turned and practically stuck his head in the cold interior, rummaging around with small indistinct mutters until he found a cold coke and flicked the can open, reveling in the crisp popping fizz. He guzzled a third of it and felt immediately better. God bless caffeine.

"I could make an exception."Kaito had breathed into the space of a second that Jack's comment had allowed him. Unlike the other boy he had no idea what to think, it seemed Jack's greatest talent was being able to by-pass his brain completely and leave nothing but a pile of warm mush behind. Nothing at all mattered, not his art, not his family, not the world around him. It was a scary thought and part of why Kaito knew he should resist, but he was long gone being able to be saved.

When the kiss had broken Jack had dropped his head to Kaito's neck, the soft strands of red brushing his jaw as the other boy nuzzled him. A full body shiver chased its way down his spine as he stiffened and then went almost limp. Why that particular spot seemed to override everything in his body and send all his attention to a certain location he wasn't sure. But all Jack had to do was touch him there and he could have done anything he wanted while Kaito tried to recover.

He blinked slowly at the second, faster, kiss. Not sure why he'd received it or the laugh that accompanied it. Drawing in a deep breath to try and drag the shattered remains of his composure back around him like the armor it was supposed to be. He fully resisted the irrational urge to take Jack up on his threat, though he wasn't sure what he had been doing and been warned against. His hormones getting shoved one by one behind the frozen box of control he usually exerted.

While Jack moved away from him to stick his head in the fridge, Kaito let his slate covered head fall back with a 'thunk' against the doorjamb. His eyes were closed as he concentrated on his breathing in a way he'd never had to do before his roommate. Why the red-head continued to be the first for so many things he didn't know, but he couldn't stop it or really work up the energy to care. Finally, he seemed to drag himself back under control because his eyes opened to reveal the navy blue once more.

Empty as usual they dropped to where the red-head was drinking from the can of soda provided. As most things were comped for him he had no idea that the bar was actually a cost for the hotel. Kaito simply took it and either the bill went to his card or the staff were to terrified to actually remark on it. His bills stayed amazingly tiny.

"Dinner's being prepared in the main restaurant. Senator Hormel is meeting us there."He informed his companion, shifting to buisness, although faint traces of emotion colored the farthest edges of his voice gave away the struggle to drop back out into the edges of the glacial personality he wore to the world.

Jack waited until Kaito brought himself back out of that state that was screaming encouragement to Jack’s very healthy sex drive and felt himself relax a little. It was easy to be tense when you were worried about scaring someone off because you had the completely understandable desire to get in their pants. And while Jack was becoming increasingly convinced that Kaito would not be completely opposed to such a plan, this did not seem the time and place to attempt it. Even though they were in a hotel room. Alone. Without the supervision of school officials or their temporary, airhead guardians. And there were several floors between them and anyone who even knew who they were. And why wasn’t this the right time or place again? Oh right. Because they’d just met and Jack didn’t want to push too hard and accidentally shatter himself on Kaito’s defensive glacier.

He made a gesture with the soda can when he heard the news, a sarcastic little celebratory motion that threatened to slosh a dark stain onto the pristine carpet. “Joy,” he muttered darkly. The presence of the senator meant the camera. Which meant those women again. And meant no more stolen kisses or reactions from Kaito. And if it had been too tempting to resist kissing Kaito here, it would be almost as impossible to keep bottled up the urge to banter with Kaito when he got bored. At least the food would be good. A senator and the Sorazorashii heir at a table together? The chef had to be an absolute nervous wreck. Jack would have felt more sympathy for the cook if the meal hadn’t meant an end to his break.

He was ready though. He no longer felt the need to kill someone and there was the added resolve that streamed from that protective streak. Kaito was going as deep into this as Jack was and Kaito had more to lose. His last name was now plastered all over this event and all it would take was a general glance in the direction of the west coast for Kaito’s father to be notified. Which meant everything had to go smoothly. And since Jack was not exactly the master of making things smooth, he had to trust Kaito’s plan.

That word again. Trust. It kept coming up in conjunction with the blue eyed male. Jack didn’t like trusting. It was the same as being vulnerable to something or someone outside your control. He squirmed internally, but outwardly sighed and started the newest death match with the tie, forcing it roughly back into place. More or less.

Unaware that his companions mind had gone straight towards the gutter, Kaito was busy shuffling his back into buisness mode. He had to make sure they were ready to present exactly as he needed them to be...and he had to try and make sure Jack understood one last time that no matter what he said or did it wasn't the truth. They both had their parts to play, just Kaito's would be crueler.

Amusement lightened the backs of the empty slate blue eyes watching the red-head raise his can in a motion that managed to portray enough sarcasm it should have curdled the soda. He was well aware that Jack had no love for the limelight. While he played his role perfectly the signs were fairly obvious for someone who had been acting towards the public his whole life. Because of this he wasn't correcting the red-head's outfit in anyway. He WANTED Senator Hormel to see him as being the lesser threat. Jack was to be himself and draw Hormel's attention so that it was forced to split. He couldn't appear to be ignoring the boy in public, but he couldn't ignore Kaito either and the artist had every intention of grinding him on that rack till he broke.

"Other than violence, feel free to act yourself. Hormel will get suspicious if you suddenly change from when he meet you last."Kaito drawled, his tone flat and even as he'd managed to reconstruct his shields by thinking about the senator and not how good Jack looked rumbled up in a suit as he was. As if sensing where his thoughts had gone Jack began to fidget with the tie, apparently trying to make it go back into place. The blue haired male offered no assistance because it would have seemed strange for the red-head to suddenly know how to tie his own necktie.

"Jack...remember its a game. Nothing said is the truth."He suddenly announced, some emotion touching the very edges of his voice but not making enough of an impact to impart how important this was to him. Really it was only that he'd said it about three times now since they'd left the school that it showed how much this was truthfully bothering him. Normally he would have acted as he saw fit and everyone could work around him, but he almost became ill at the thought of Jack upset at him again for what he was about to do. If he thought Kaito had been an a** before...it was about to become arctic with a chance of ice storms. Kaito was NOT going to play nice, nor pull his punches. If he could force Hormel to leave dinner early from nerves alone he'd count his mission well done.

Jack fidgeted with his clothing, more for something to do than because he gave a damn about what he looked like. The closer they got to this, the more Jack wanted to send a bellhop downstairs with a message for the adults to go ******** themselves and leave him and Kaito out of their world dominating endeavors. Of course the downside to that plan would be not being able to see the expressions on the faces of those in question. Maybe if he got camera guy to film it… But Jack didn’t have the money to bribe someone like that. ******** it. It was best just to get this over with.

“You mean charming and sweet?” he smirked, glancing back at Kiato from the corner of his eye as he faced the mirror. A comb seemed like too much trouble so he pushed his hair back behind his ears, little silver stud and hoop catching the light above the mirror. The hoop was centered, but the stud was hand done with a needle and a big piece of ice by a friend after a night of drinking and sat just a little crooked. But he liked it. It had history.

Unsurprisingly, his hand strayed to his pocket and the muffled sound of a lighter clicking preceded his words. Must not go downstairs smelling like cigarettes. Must resist the urge to get them out of this by holding the lighter up to the smoke detector and setting off the alarm. Must pretend not to be ruled by impulse for another couple of seconds…

Amethyst eyes shot to the other boy in surprise, one eyebrow lifting. “You said that.” It wasn’t like Kaito to repeat himself. About anything. Not without adding new information, but he’d stressed this one point multiple times. And it was starting to worry Jack. How bad was this going to be? Kaito had a sharp tongue. Jack could remember the verbal lashing Yukio had gotten just as a side benefit to sitting next to Jack when Jack had pulled that stunt in the cafeteria.

And if Jack was ‘himself’, he wouldn’t be able to sit passively by for anything said at dinner either. If he removed being completely obsessed with his roommate from the picture, Jack would fire back as good as he got, albeit more crudely with a lot more swearing involved. They were suiting up not so much for a dinner as for a battle. And they couldn’t go as allies.

“Yeah,” he sighed. “Me neither. Nothin’s real the moment we step out.” He wanted to kiss Kaito again, but it had taken both of them too long to regain their composure before and Jack needed to be awake for this, not lost in a fantasy that involved losing Kaito’s clothes. So instead he flashed a grin and winked. “See you downstairs”

Then he reluctantly put a hand out on Kaito’s shirt and pushed him gently backwards through the door he’d come from, listening to it click almost silently shut again.

"Now I'll be sure to check for lightning."Kaito drawled at Jack's comment. Lying like that, claiming to be sweet and charming, had to be one that would call down the old school wrath of the gods. Yet the red-head continued to mess with his hair in the mirror. The action drawing attention to the earrings that Kaito had only caught a couple of glimpses of before. Slate blue orbs focused on the glint of silver amid the crimson and fought down a sudden urge to lick them. He blinked, rather shocked at where his mind had dropped. He had no idea why the thought had come to him or why it was so hard to resist.

For safety's sake he crossed his arms over his chest once more as the sound of the lighter clicking could just be heard, the cloths making it difficult unless you knew what to look for. Kaito's expression remained calm as the other male's look jumped to his and he informed him he'd said it before. The artist knew he'd repeated it, but he couldn't shake the feeling it might not be enough. Not that they had any options. He would simply have to try and keep his caustic personality focused on senator Hormel. Granted it would mean treating Jack like all the idiots he'd ignored in the past...but it was better than fighting him.

He honestly couldn't say for sure whether he could hold his act together if they began arguing. Jack had an unnatural ability to break his shields and having it happen in front of their enemy would not be good. At least he had the reassurance of Jack sighing and agreeing that nothing was real the moment they left. Kaito nodded once, sharply, and let himself be pushed from the room.

A brief stop at the mirror and the young heir adjusted anything that their brief kiss might have misaligned, then grabbing his notepad, he pulled the cold close to his heart and locked away everything. This time he was doing it to protect Jack rather than his own strange feelings, he had to trust it would hold.

Sorazorashii Kaito walked out of the room like the visible edge of an iceberg. His expression was flat with vague hints of annoyance around the edges and his eyes were arctic cold and clearly dismissive of everything they landed on. He swept through the hall towards the elevator, only the laws of physics keeping him from having a trail of frost in his wake. The elevator responded to his commands and he joined another couple going down. The few flights it took to have them on the bottom saw the couple tightly pushed against one of the far walls. Kaito hadn't done anything but the menace all but oozing from him was a lethal warning enough.

Not sparing a glance for them he stalked across the lobby, not noticing the attendant ducking out of visual range as he did so, and towards the restaurant where the door was pulled open instantly by one of the butlers who bowed him in. He could have been a rug for all the attention Kaito paid him as his expressionless slate blue orbs swept the room for signs of the senator or Jack. He'd given him a moments head start but the red-head might have spent it trying to fix his tie.

"Sorazorashii for Hormel."He announced flatly, turning his head slightly to pin the host who had begun to ask him who he was looking for or if he had reservations. The sharp snap of his statement practically left skid marks. The male paled slightly but nodded and started leading him towards a back table.

Jack was restless the moment the door shut and wasted no time in leaving, heading down the hall to the elevators, fingers occasionally making the motions that would have clicked the lighter if he’d put his hand in his pocket. His footsteps were hurried and heavy, treading firmly on the carpet and practically kicking the elevator door when it threatened to close before he reached it. The elevator contained a pair of giggling girls who seemed rather involved with each other in more than one sense. Jack tried not to scowl at the way they were leaning on each other when he was getting ready to sit down to the most uncomfortable dinner on the planet. He was out the door before they completely slid open, getting directions from the front desk and finding his way to the low lit restraint.

He eyed the butler that pulled the door open for him, but at least the guy didn’t seem to be expecting a tip. At the front of the restaurant he explained to the host who he was supposed to meet and felt the man draw a skeptical eye across the crooked tie and up to the unkempt red hair. Jack resisted the impulse to flip him off and instead grinned sarcastically. The host sniffed and escorted Jack to a table in the back where the dear senator was already seated.

The man was nervous. Jack couldn’t help but feel surprised. He didn’t think the Senator would be nervous about dinner with his sponsorship case and the son of his main monetary supporter, but then Jack didn’t know about the discomforting phone call Hormel had gotten earlier that day. The older man stood and smiled and said a few polite words about how he hoped the trip had been pleasant and how he hoped Jack understood this was all to make sure Jack was happy. Jack told the man he was ”Just peachy,” not bothering to hide much of his ill mood. He settled back in the chair hard, amused at the way the senator winced at his rouch treatment of the finely carved chair and the delicate linen napkin.

The redhead turned when he heard the sound of footsteps, watching Kaito approach. Kaito was in full battle gear, absolutely frozen and commanding. Even Jack felt the irrational urge to stand up until the blue haired boy sat himself. That was pure authority right there. You couldn’t fake that. The senator might be trying for it, but in comparison with this youth he was completely out of his depth.

Kaito was careful to not let his gaze linger on Jack, other than a brief glance when he approached. It was the sort of bored look someone would give a prize show dog if it had been allowed at the table. Interesting, it must look nice, but it was still just a dog and in the end I'm a cat person, sort of thing. Then his arctic orbs settled on Senator Hormel who had risen as soon as he'd approached and immediately held out a hand in greeting.

"Kaito-san, welcome. I took the liberty of ordering a merlot."The heavy set male practically gushed. Slate blue orbs slid down to the offered hand and then back up to the pale blue eyes that nervously watched him, giving him a blank stare that spoke volumes. The hand was dropped with a strained smile as the senator motioned for him to take a seat. Kaito did so in a smooth glide, accepting the napkin from the servant with the same sort of disdain he'd treated Jack too.

"I'm waiting."Kaito's tone was as cold as his eyes as he pinned the senator in his seat as soon as the other man had sat. The waiter had stepped away to see to the drink Hormel had apparently ordered. The blue orbs across from him darted to Jack and then towards Kaito as if desperately seeking for a reason why. Given how well he acted in the public eye it said something of the power Kaito's father held over him.

"I beg your pardon, Kaito-san, but I wasn't aware you'd meet Mr. Vari before."Kaito's look dropped a degree, nothing touching his expression, but somehow conveying that he wasn't in the mood to be questioned. Dutifully he turned his attention towards the red-head. Nothing touched his expression but a sort of bored acceptance before he turned his attention once more towards the senator.

"Mr. Vari was placed as my roommate at Bell Liberty."He finally announced, watching relief brush across the senator's face as his smile gained strength.

"Oh, wonderful, then you two are-"

"Acquainted, yes. Father felt it best your little...pet was under observation. He is not amused with your recent dalliance. Other than elevating a mongrel above his status and potentially embarrassing my father what are you hoping to gain from this?"Mentally Kaito flinched, but nothing touched the arctic emptiness. The only outward sign was his fingers moving over the spine of the pad sitting in his lap. Hidden under the table it would be out of view for the senator whose smile had drained off his face like oil.

"I-I assure you, Kaito-san. This will not reflect badly on anyone. It's for...publicity. I'm sure your father is aware that my poles are down, I have to have further backing to run for the next-"

"Should you be admitting that out loud in such a public place, Senator?"There was a dangerous purr in Kaito's voice, a lift of his eyebrow, a tilt of his lips, all of it suggesting a predator watching something injured stumble towards his resting place. The senator was excused an immediate answer by the arrival of the waiter and their wine. Apparently able to read the undercurrents of the table he offered the test sip to Kaito rather than the older male. Slate blue orbs held the senators own blue set as he mockingly lifted the glass, a symbol of status, and sipped at the merlot the other had ordered. Actually finding it acceptable he tipped his head towards the male who immediately filled three glasses.

The menu was lifted with a deliberate movement to dismiss both the waiter and Senator Hormel who was on the opposite side of the pages from him. He couldn't resist sliding a brief glance towards Jack from the relative safety behind it. His heart in his throat despite his appearance.

Jack watched the senator make record time with the a** kissing. He stood up for the generously younger male while Jack remained reclined. It was easier to control his body language from a sitting position anyway. Jack let his posture speak volumes about how he was feeling. He didn’t just sit, he lounged. He told anyone in eyesight that he didn’t much want to be there, but as long as he had to be he was damn well going to make himself comfortable. After all, Kaito’s last instruction had been to be himself. And Jack was not someone to hide what he was thinking. He wasn’t in a position to manipulate (or want to manipulate) either man at the table. Kaito was… well, Kaito and the senator was already so far under the blue eyed boy’s thumb it was more sad than funny.

He listened to the first part of the conversation, bored expression much less refined than Kaito’s but in strong supply. He was taking the time to distance himself from Kaito, trying to imagine this as Kaito’s double, his doppelganger, his reflection. He would need that to respond naturally or he was bound to either understate what he wanted to say or head over the top again as his emotions compounded with his feelings for the heir. He worked on that and when the conversation met a point where Jack felt he should jump in, he was more or less ready.

When Kaito asked what the senator hoped to gain, Jack decided he’d had enough of Hormel’s stuttering explanations and spoke around and over the man as though he hadn’t considered the idea that Hormel would actually answer something so vicious.

“I wouldn’t touch your “status” with a ten food pole,” Jack said, voice laced with a growl. He picked up one of the serrated knives placed to the side of his place setting for meats. He twisted it so it would catch the light. “Even a dog buries s**t when he can smell it.” Hmm. So much for a classy place. They really needed to sharpen their knives if they wanted a good cut when the meat came to the table. Any fool could have told them that.

The senator shot him a panicked look, obviously pleading with Jack to shut his mouth let the grown ups talk. He made a motion with his hand, lowering it palm down to the table, asking Jack silently to put the knife down. No doubt it looked like some kind of threat in his hands. Jack flashed a grin and set the blade down again with exaggerated care as his glass was filled.

“You sure you’re old enough to drink, kid? Wearing Daddy's suit and flashing his credit cards doesn't make you all growed up you know.” he smiled sweetly at Kaito. He raised the glass in a toasting gesture to the other two males and tipped his head back to drink. God he was going to need it by the end of this.

Somewhat reassured by the relaxed posture coming from his roommate he felt his stomach settle a little. He'd have felt better if he was sure whether Jack was playing along with the game or really upset, but he'd have to act his part if they were going to get through this. The menu lowered to reveal slate blue orbs filled with disdain at the comment coming from the red-head who was currently messing with the knife.

"And yet here you remain, unburied."it was almost like a parody of their usual banter. The quick quipped remarks made in response to Jack's own sharp tongue, only this was to cut not to draw out. His actually speaking to the male seemed to drop the color in the senator's face a notch. It was understandable as generally people didn't want someone of Kaito's position acknowledging them because then they were remembered, and later disposed. The flat look was transferred to Senator Hormel when he motioned for Jack to put the knife down. Jack did so with enough of his own menace in his movements to suggest he did so only because he felt like it.

"Charming. Can we trust it with the plates, senator, or should I order something in a bowl?"Kaito's tone was caustic as well as arctic as he gave the red-head a disdainful look full of exactly what he supposedly thought of him. He wasn't sure he was actually going to be able to eat if his stomach didn't decide to settle down a little. Jack lifted the glass while Senator Hormel looked between them with horror bleaching his face. It was obvious he didn't believe Jack knew who or what he was facing. Let him sweet wondering if Kaito would get his little project killed, because the truth was the blue haired male would have killed just about anyone else in the world to protect his roommate.

"I'm sorry, Kaito-san! Jack's not used to dealing with people of...our stature. I'm sure a few months at Bell Liberty will teach him."There was clear desperation in the other man's face as the waiter made his way towards them once more to take their food orders. Jack's words drawing the glacial navy blue set of the young heir to him once more noticing the glass raised in toast. His eyebrow lifted slightly as he gave him a look reserved for things you find on the bottom of your shoe after using the New York rail.

"Are you smart enough to speak? Why don't you go back to yapping, cur, and leave conversations to your betters."He saw the wince on the others face and knew what he was thinking. For Jack that had been an open invitation to war, but he couldn't act any different than he would normally. Showing the slightest hint of any connection could be fatal, so he accepted the inevitable fight despite the sinking sensation in his chest.

"Just a salad."Hormel murmured to the waiter, looking even more sick than Kaito felt, given this was all his fault the young heir felt an irrational urge for the older male to get an ulcer. It was childish, which wasn't like him, but it made him feel better.

"Medium-rare, chief's choice for sides."Not content with just Hormel, apparently Kaito was out for blood from anyone in striking range. He'd be surprised to learn that the cook actually quite after this meal, and the stress of trying to decide what sides to give the obviously annoyed heir. More so when his manager was hovering over his shoulder. Kaito had DEFIANTLY gotten the attention of upper management earlier.

"Mr. Vari is a good choice for me to sponsor, Kaito-san. He's from a modest background right here in California. He's had a troubled youth, but the American people love that."Senator Hormel was obviously quickly trying to make up for lost grounds and establish Jack's worth in the eyes of the young heir. The blue haired male gave him a drool look.

"Are you explaining your actions or selling me a brood mare?"flat, empty annoyance. The last thing anyone working with kaito wanted to hear, it usually meant he'd reached the end of what he was willing to listen too. He'd made his decision, and at the moment Senator Hormel knew it wasn't in his direction. He frantically looked towards Jack and made a motion like the boy should explain his worth to the teenage heir. Kaito calmly sipped his drink and stared the sweating senator down knowing his hopes would be dashed. Jack wouldn't see that look as anything but a reason to push buttons.

He hadn’t been certain Kaito would answer him or if the script called for him to completely ignore Jack. The redhead couldn’t help the small bit of relief when Kaito answered. Somehow fighting was better than being ignored. Whether Kaito was a stranger or Kaito was his, Jack would not have been able to take that well. Most of the stupid things he’d done in life had been for attention. The worst things he’d done to Kaito had been to attract the boy’s attention, bring those eyes back to him. If he wasn’t completely ignored, maybe he could get through this.

“No, no, don’t try to take back your clever little phrasing,” Jack smirked darkly, meeting the flat look with blazing sarcasm. They were a study in contrasts, the only similarity between them being that each clearly dislike the other. As this was the biggest lie being told, Jack counted it among the contrasts as well. “I’ll be the canine, you can be the little s**t.” Jack enjoyed the effect each swearword had on the senator. The man tensed enough that Jack half expected to hear a squeak escape him. That would have been a lot of fun. Squeak squeak, you b*****d. It’s your fault I had to call Kaito a s**t when I’d rather be upstairs proving how glad I am he ended up my roommate.

Part of Jack was aware that this wasn’t really about the senator. It was about severing anything that could link Jack back to Kaito’s father before the man discovered Jack liked his son in a less than traditional way and that his son was rapidly following suit. But the faceless man who remotely controlled seemingly everything he set his sights on wasn’t there. But Hormel was and Jack saw no need to go easy on the man. Not when he’d obviously drop Jack in a moment if he thought he could do it without looking even stupider. “Don’t count on people like this,” Jack gestured sharply at Kaito, “Changing a damn thing about me,” he turned a heated glare on the older man.

When it was his turn to order, Jack jabbed a finger at the menu, landing on the fettuccini alfredo. Noodles and cheese. Not even a restaurant like this could screw that up and Jack was really hungry. He didn’t want anything so fancy he couldn’t identify what he was eating and end up snacking on the garnish by mistake.

Jack didn’t even have to pretend to be annoyed at the way the senator continued to talk about him as though he weren’t sitting right there at the table. ‘Modest background’ seemed to be code for ‘mostly broke’ and ‘troubled youth’ was a much more cuddly version of events than Jack usually heard. Nothing in it was an insult, but the way he was being paraded out like a sale at Wal-Mart was really pissing him off.

“What the hell is wrong with you people?” Jack finally asked. He almost shut up after that, mostly out of deference to Kaito who did have to live this way for at least part of his life, but he’d never had great control over his mouth. And Kaito had to forgive him for anything he said. That was the deal, wasn’t it? Jack acted like a hothead with poor impulse control and Kaito acted like arctic royalty and in the end they wouldn’t hold it against the other. “The world doesn’t actually revolve around either of you, you arrogant assholes. Try treating people like they’re not bugs on your windshield and maybe they won’t dance on your graves when you finally rot all the way to the outside.”

Self-proclaimed strongest and Leader of the Disciplinary Committee
Aizen Miheal

He waited in the hospital waiting room for news about his new acquaintance, Dion. They had been walking up the steps when a weird person had knocked him down the steps while walking in a hurry. As he fell down, Dion had grabbed him and ended falling instead. When he didn't move while he shook him, the boy got scared and called 911 quickly.

Now it was present time. He waited anxiously for the doctors to tell him he would be fine.
