English eek
Haha, joking sweatdrop Though I can't speak either of the 2 languages, I can understand cantonese, and that was why I preferred it over mandarin. However, I went to a Japanese restaurant and the head chef was mandarin. My father is able to get by carrying a conversation in mandarin, and so he spoke with the chef for quite some time. After listening, I started to like how mandarin dialect sounded...to me, I find it to be soft, smooth, and elegant, if that's any way to describe it. Cantonese is sometimes a bit harsh or sharp.
Anywho, after my dad had finished speaking with the chef, he gave us some free salmon sashimi rofl

But to me, some Cantonese and Mandarin are the same. At least, the numbers... not really the same...the sounds are different...I agree. 3nodding not like...exactly the same. but if you really pay attention...

I like Manderin...cus I'm Taiwanese and I speak Manderin more than Canto. xP
I think the Taiwanese dialect of Mando sounds better than the Shanghai dialect or Beijing dialect...but it's probably just because I'm Taiwanese. ><;;
I'm also half Canto...but I like my Taiwanese side better. >>;;

^^;; You ever went across to Mainland China? Some mainland Chinese might still regard Taiwanese as enemies, especially if they are members of the Communist Party. xd

Well, to the average Chinese, yes, Communism has well and truly died to be repladed by the glitz of capitalism, especially in Hong Kong. But the rulers of China are still hardline Communists who would kill to get a chance to take control of Taiwan.

I thought that by now the rulers of China would get over the communism propaganda and switch over to being capitalist, well i guess that just proves that just because you're communist doesn't mean you can't be a capalist too... though i can't help but think that the ways of capitalist world would great go agaisnt communist beliefs... maybe i'm overthinking things.

about hte communism and capitalism thing i think that hong kong is more of capitalism cause weren't they just released from british control not too long ago? confused and britian is capitalism, right? so yeah......
another thing, how come more people seem to like cantonese (from the poll) when more people speak manderin
and is mando easier to learn how to speak than canto? (i don't know if this is the best question to ask cause i think that people grow up learning one so they're used to it, making the other dialect harder)
