ravenkitty776 Except if the piece of music has rips. Trumpets can't do rips as well as french horns. yeah, except rips are more for classical-type music anyway, so it's a moot point.

The horn is a far more beautiful-sounding instrument than a trumpet, assuming equal proficiency. I play horn and thus am biased, but you cannot by far do more with a trumpet than you can with a horn. A horn is far more versatile and a far better accompaniment than a trumpet ever will be, and that's simply due to the nature of the instruments.

The French horn is obviously the winner. It makes beautiful music and it doesnt tend to go too high or sound like a squeakey dying cat.

X Midnight Falcon X *Sigh* I am not going to win this one due to the vast majority of trumpet players here, but here it goes! See... I've been having an argument with someone in my band (lalan55) about whose instrument is better, French Horn (The obvious choice) or the Trumpet. Honestly, being a Horn player myself, I choose French Horn, and one of the other reason is because the trumpet players in our band sound like a dying squirrel. All screechy and tense. The BD seems incredibly mad at them. We sound on center as according to her. So in our band, The French Horns are the obvious winner... but here is your answer to finally put our argument to rest! (Or maybe not...) My bands trumpets sound like dying hoards of bees, and the worse part is, the trumpets outnumber us o.o Don't get me wron, there are a few trumpets who are pretty good, but it's cancelled out by all the others D: And the horns aren't any better. We only have two and they both suck even though they're seniors. They're always out of tune DDD: And I have to sit next to them

i am a trumpet and i personally think trumpets are better but my band has 28 trupets and about 20 suck we also have like 12 french horns and maybe 2 suck so in general in my band french horns are actually better if only cause they sound better sometimes

I play French Horn lets get that straight.I may not be the best since i now i have to play with a Marching French Horn but i have to say i don't like the Trumpets all too much in my band,maybe it's cause they sound too shaky and off tone. My Drum Major on the other hand plays French Horn like a pro(not saying he's that good but)i can't compare to him sometimes cause he shows off too much. Trumpets have a loud sound but French Horn gives a good clear back song to music.

ok so along with other people i am a trumpet and horn player. but to be honest it is a total win for horn for me. we just get some of the most difficult counter melodies and some incredible solos and it is impossible to tune. and you have to be veeeerrry good at playing it to make it sound wonderful. it just takes a lot of skill. and im not saying that playing trumpet doesn't take skill. its just that they almost always get the melody and in most bands (im not saying all) the majority of the trumpet players suck and they think they are the best. when played correctly trumpet can sound fantastic. but my heart goes to horn.
although i do loooooooovvvveeeeee trumpet in jazz. when you get all the parts (1-4) playing together at equal volume its like the music of the gods. xp

I am a Tuba/Trombone player so im really un-biased here but i must say that i like the sound of the french horn better, It just sounds much more smooth and relaxed as apposed to the trumpet that is extremely strong and cutting.

Having less than a year of Horn under my belt, I feel as though I'd be really biased because my BD has said I was 'made' for Horn, I love the people in my section, and I love Horn overall more. I do have to say I am partial to Horn, just because of the voice and range of the instrument. As hard as they say it is, I find it very easy because I have a fat lip that held me back as a trumpeter. Also I am left handed, so that makes it easier.
Though I find the trumpet annoying at times, it is only because we have a huge amount of trumpeters in our school. The trumpet is very much a beautiful instrument, a bit easier to get the tones.
