~Azrael's Journal~

Journal,

I don't write much, I'm sorry. Things at home haven't been the greatest all around at all. There's so much to explain and yet, there really isn't so I should probably just start from the beginning. Ary's moved out and has this new kid, Regina. She's the snobbiest, most prissy and obnoxious girl I have ever laid eyes on. And that's saying a lot so yes, I hate her guts.

Secondly, the subject of my brother, Cody. He's not the same. I WANT MY OLD BROTHER BACK! It isn't fair! He used to be cool and for a while he was really really mean and never around and... He recently hurt himself to get back his stupid boyfriend. That's when he changed into what seems like two people who don't exist on the same plane of thought. One's all nice and the other is mean and, dare I say it, crazy.

I want my old brother back! I hate this new one! Please, just make him back to normal again... Please. I don't like hiding from him by leaving the house. It's getting colder and staying outside all day is becoming more and more of a hassle, not to mention worrying mom. She's got Cody to deal with and he's more than enough for her. Why can't things go back to normal journal?

Wait! Maybe I can wish for that now that I've grown! Yeah, you heard me. I GREW not too long ago. I'm up to Cody's...

Damn you. Damn you ALL.

~*Enough*~

((This was written to focus mainly on Cody, so the last paragraph or so was added in after cause I needed more on Azrael's POV.))

“Cody, we have to talk,” Shadai called to the boy as he walked by on his way to the door. She had to pause, though, as his new shirt appeared to be shredded or ripped in many places and… wait, was it backwards?

“If it’s because of my shirt I-“

“No, it is because of how you have been acting lately. You never remember things and it is as if you are two different people. That shirt just worries me and confirms my beliefs,” Shadai explained, interrupting him in the middle of his seemingly calm reasoning.

I act like two people? You’re ******** crazy,” Cody snapped and froze as soon as the words left his mouth and echoed around the room, that ever present hint of insanity lurking deep within. “Did I just…?”

“Yes. Sit,” the Egyptian commanded, pointing at the couch in front of him. It wasn’t hard to tell she was upset as her English degraded to simplistic words coated with a rich African accent.

Cody complied and sat obediently upon the furniture indicated, a little confused and worried himself. Was he really two people in one body? No, that was silly and yet he saw evidence of it all over the place. Things missing, him appearing in unusual places, words being said that he never spoke….

“I don’t get wha-Hi Azrael. –t the big problem is. Azzie get your-What’s with-a** out-that look?-of here,” He half snapped, half talked pleasantly and almost worriedly. It was a wonder how he didn’t trip over his own words or ended up sounding even stranger than he did. Then, as a dominant personality set in, that dark and almost insane look returned to his face that had been ruling him since the end of his pre-teen years.

“This es de final straw. I shall take you to de facility an-“

“NO!” Cody snarled, leaping to his feet. He had yet to notice Ary moving into the room and standing nearby like a lion ready to pounce. “I’m not going! I don’t want to go! I’m fine I swear! …And if you ******** try I-HEY! LET ME GO b***h!” he snarled, pitch changing drastically as his personality flicked back and forth. As he made his way to the door to make his escape, a white blur was all he managed to see before he suddenly found himself pinned to the ground with Ary sitting on him.

“You’re going and no amount of yelling or kicking will change her mind. Are you going to-“

You can kiss my a**, b***h. No ******** way I’m going,” Cody snapped in response, trying to free his arms and remove the female from his back and failing miserably. Her hands were practically welded to his wrists and the floor. If only he was a child of wrath and not greed then perhaps he could have thrown her off by now. They were really strong, weren’t they? They were probably stronger than any child of greed or patience…

“You’re going and that’s final. And no, being a child of either wrath demons wouldn’t give you any sort of advantage,” Ary hissed, pulling Cody’s arms back and creating a sort of icy handcuffs that linked his arms together from his wrists to his elbows. Despite being made of ice, the smoky white-blue material emanated no chilling temperatures so as to feel more like really stiff plastic than frozen water.

Cody glared at them, kicking and flailing and screeching curses and various partial phrases as Ary hoisted him over her shoulder and carried him to the car. Then, in an attempt to keep him still and silent and from others calling the police, tied his ankles together and gagged him.

“Yanno, I didn’t exactly expect this to take as much effort as it did. Told you he was a little loony in the head,” Ary commented, glancing at Shadai who happened to be driving.

“Silence. One word more and you walk.”

~~

Azrael stared in shock at the door that had closed and locked only moments before. Cody... His own brother had cursed at him and Shadai had simply slammed the door on him without asking if he wanted to come along. Silence descended upon the house, blanketing the poor pumpkin demon in the unearthly quietness.

"Cody..." And with that, the demon marched right up to his room and grabbed a bag decorated with Nightmare Before Christmas designs and characters. In it was stuffed a pad of paper, a pumpkin pen that never seemed to run out of ink, and several clothes. And to be on the save side, a knife he snitched from Cody's now empty room just in case someone attacked him. Cody was always saying the outside world was dangerous.

"Looks like you were the dangerous one, brother," he muttered, adding a blanket to the pile before grabbing a sheet of paper and describing where he went. Being phone-less, he could only describe where he was and possibly be. Hopefully Shadai would understand and not panic. She didn't need more stress and to worry about him as well, not like she did that much nowadays it seemed. He had become a ghost in his own house.

"Maybe she won't even notice me gone..." he mused sadly to himself, leaving the note on the table before heading out and quietly locking the door behind him. Only one location was stuck in his mind, the pumpkin patch. It was where he had first met Aesica and that was where he hoped to meet her again.

"Ae, I seriously hope you're there cause I am not going to camp out there," Azrael muttered, trudging down the road with his bag thrown over his shoulder.

~Azrael's Journal~

Journal,

I've been walking for what seems like hours, and judging by my watch it's only been about two. It's given me some time to think about what's happened earlier at home. Yes, I've gotten to the pumpkin patch and managed to sneak in without having to pay. Don't ask how, I would rather not explain.

Mom confronted Cody about his mental sanity and... he... He cursed at me! But then again, he didn't... It's so weird. Either way, she and Ary grabbed him and left for the facility I'm guessing. Either way, he didn't want to go at all and I don't blame him but if he goes back to normal then I'll be happy. He may not be but I would be. I miss my old brother...

Which is why I went to the pumpkin patch cause I was hoping Aesica would be there. She was my first friend that I remember and, well, this was where I first met her and the closest place I can walk to. Here's to hoping she shows up and if not, I'll be sure to write about sleeping out here or possibly walking home.

Wish me luck.

Welcome to Hell

“Just for a few days until I get word Cody is ok again? You owe me at least a hundred favors and eight of your lives so give me that much at least,” Shadai asked the expressionless white-haired woman currently blocking the door to her wintery home. The house itself didn’t seem all that bad on the outside, looking no different than the other houses around it. On the inside, however, things became horribly different and plainly obvious magic was at work. Where there were once only a couple bedrooms available and a tiny kitchen and living room, there was now close to ten rooms and several basement floors. Everything had been multiplied either in space or in number, displaying the absolute power Ary could command at a moment’s notice.

Or that she had too many objects to do such things for her.

“I do owe you several dozen favors, yes, I admit to that at least. What I don’t understand is why-,”

“Ary, please, later. Can you… Can you call me tonight? Things are difficult to explain,” the Egyptian interrupted, dark eyes glancing down to where Azrael was standing. The boy was irritably staring off into the distance, orange eyes glowing brightly against the snow and sunlight. Despite the fact that it was almost seventy degrees outside, a soft dusting of snow coated the mostly green lawn. This was far less unusual, seeing as the icy woman loved keeping everything as cold and icy as physically possible to chase away the heat of day.

Of course, none of them were surprised in the slightest at the sight. Ary seemed to love showing off her prowess at controlling anything icy or cold related. Not to mention snow in September or even July was far more commonly found around her anyways. “Very well, since I owe you and all. Azrael, have Aenira show you to the guest room. I think I fixed the heating in there… Till I find an object to keep you warm, I ask you stay in your room unless wearing clothes suitable for winter weather,” Arytiss replied coolly, moving out of the doorway so he could enter. “You and I need to talk Shadai. Later, though,” she added, cold crystal-blue eyes watching the little pumpkin demon enter.

He wasn’t the worst one to deal with of the Ashanti kids, thankfully. Although Ary was pretty sure the other one, Cody, was the reason why Azrael was being dropped off at her house for a “few days”. Psh, that boy needed more help than anyone could give him in such a short span of time. More like three years, though she hoped progress would be sent to the poor woman in front of her. The teen looked like he had already worried her sick. Shadai’s clothes were fairly off from her usual attire, taking on a darker color scheme and more frayed appearance. It was a wonder how she had kept things together for so long in the first place.

Azrael sighed as he walked inside. He knew his mom was having a rough time with Cody being at the facility and almost no way to speak with him or the doctor. Already they had gone for almost a week without any sort of update from either of them or ANYONE at the place. Of course, him running away to stay at Aesica’s house probably wasn’t the best idea either… Still, he had needed space and it seemed like a good idea at the time so he just went with it. At least he wouldn’t freeze his tail off there…

“AZRAEL! Ohmygosh I’ve missed you!” Aenira squealed as she practically tackled him to the ground. Well, that would have been the case had she not decided to soar up to the ceiling while giving him a suffocating hug.

“N-Nice t’ see you t-too ‘Nira,” he gasped, struggling to breathe.

“Oh! Sorry! REGGIE! Azrael’s here!” Regina didn’t look up from her book, giving a soft sniff in greeting. With a soft pout, Aenira started petting Azrael’s pretty and insanely soft orange hair. “She’s just grumpy ‘cause Ary yelled at her earlier. Oh! I’ll show you to your room!” And like that, pumpkin demon and suitcase were rocketing through the hallways as if they were a leaf in a tornado.

“Heeeeeere we aaaaaaare~! You ok Azzy?” Azrael grumbled a reply, standing up only to stumble sideways and nearly fall over as the room violently spun. “’M fine, really,” he muttered as he leaned against the wall to steady himself and fix his hair. Being around the wind Halfling often screwed it up due to the feeling of being in a wind tunnel while standing near her.

“Kay! I really did miss you Azrael. I’m sorry ‘bout your brother too. Cody will be alright, you’ll see,” Aenira murmured softly, hugging the boy gently one last time before heading off again. Like the wind, she never stayed in one place for too terribly long. Not to mention her odd knowledge of everything and anything that had been whispered or spoken aloud. Definitely an odd one to be around that was for sure.

Azrael sighed, leaving the chilly hallway and entering his far warmer room. Such a change wasn’t surprising upon realizing how magically adept Ary was. If it was cold, she knew how to manipulate it. As he looked around, he began to wonder if such magic extended also to space. The little house he arrived at couldn’t possibly have fit so many rooms into it this comfortably. Still, the fact that he had to remain cooped up in a rather boring room was almost insane. He’d have to deal with it, unfortunately. Like hell he could argue with Ary or his mom like Cody could.

The demon sighed, wondering what happened to his brother to ultimately lead to such a massive crash. Cody was so cool; he didn’t deserve whatever was wrong with him. God, he was a freaking pumpkin demon KING! Why should s**t like this happen to HIM?! Groaning, Azrael flopped onto the bed. Apparently life sucked and that was the end of it.

~Azrael's Journal~

Journal,

Well, I'm stuck at Ary's and it sucks something terrible. It's constantly freezing everywhere except my room and the bathrooms, although they aren't much warmer either. I'm glad the people that come over understand my predicament and don't ask why I wander around the house in a full snowsuit. Regina may mock me, but her bees can't sting me though all the layers so I can just "fall" onto her in revenge. >D

Anyways... Haven't heard from mom about Cody in a while. It worries me but when I was dropped off she did say he was supposedly getting better. Ary says the same thing but I don't entirely believe her some days. She also says I'm going to the Azoulai's Halloween event. I'm not sure whether to be relieved I get to leave the house or fearful of what she's going to force me into. She can be incredibly persuasive at times. Ah, well, here's to hoping it all goes well in the end. If there's a ball, I'm hoping I can sneak off cause there is no way in hell I'm dancing with a girl.

And I'm NOT hanging around with Regina the Terrible. She's so freaking obnoxious. Makes me seem tolerable at times which is definitely saying something. I'm not sure whether or not Reggie is actually related to Ary with how similar they're beginning to act... Scary.

~*In the Dark of the Night*~

"Your darker side is rising slowly, coming to the surface.
Beware its dark allure and fight its evil purpose.
For those inner shadows creep beneath like the midnight ghost
Seeking out harm and ill for those you care the most
Heed my words, and listen well
To these words I am to tell
The inner demons seek to wake
And with it, your friends to take."

Prompt
The combination of stress and the dark energies of the Halloweve season are taking their toll on Azrael. Something dark has been lurking beneath that smile, and it's about to make itself known to the world. What happens, and how far does it go before the boy regains his wits? If he regains them, that is.

Azrael sighed, staring out at the full moon as it slowly slid up into the sky. Hallows Eve wasn't quite the same without Cody there, being strange and yet an awesome brother. For the past week or so, he had hid out at Aesica's house without giving his mother, Shadai, anything to contact him by. He had turned his cellphone off and kept it nice and safe in his bag, hidden away just in case. Yet like all things, his hiding spot had been revealed and instead of being dragged home again he had been told to pack his bags and was sent to Arytiss’ home. The frigid cold house was difficult to ignore at times, especially when he forgot to wear the necklace that helped keep him warm while inside. She was still working on figuring out the spell and as such, it often stopped or made him too warm or too cold. Aenira tried her best as well to help him but in the end it was just easier to escape to the outside realm.

Well, that was how it was now. Cody was insane and locked up at a facility he couldn’t visit, his own mother had abandoned him temporarily at the home of a woman who seemed incapable of any feelings other than anger and irritation, and to top it all off he was alone. His friends were on the other side of town and well out of reach for walking. Plus his new temporary guardian seemed to know exactly what he was doing at all times, able to be there whenever he started doing something she didn’t approve of. One such thing, before she left the house, was him attempting to get up on the roof. That little adventure ended swiftly and he was promptly sent off to Trick Or Treat with Aenira.

Thankfully she managed to make the whole thing tons more fun at the end, even taking him to the Azoulai’s masquerade ball. Now that he thought back to it, Azrael couldn’t really remember it. Whatever, it didn’t matter. Nobody wanted him anyways so why did he even have to exist? Sure he put up a façade of uncaring prideful antics and demeanor, but the fact that he had been abandoned not once but TWICE still remained. Regina seemed to make a point of commenting on it whenever she passed him in the hallways or he did something to upset her.

Azrael let loose a long sigh, leaning back on the tiled rooftop. Maybe he should just tell the Azoulai’s he needed a new home or even just run away for good and live on the streets. People did it all the time anyways and they got along fine.

But where is the fun in that?

Startled, he peered around in the gloom. Nobody was nearby... Oh great, now he was going insane too. Closing his eyes in an attempt to shut out the world he submersed himself in his thoughts once more.

How can you be the demon king you’re supposed to be if everyone takes you for granted?

“Who’s there?” Azrael called out, sitting up to look around once more.

Halloween is your time to shine, Azrael. You think it was made simply for candy-goers and dances?
“No I suppose not...”
Then rise. The night is still young after all. Strike back against those that dare ignore you! Show them who you truly are!

Azrael blinked open his eyes. The voice had a point. Luck could be good or bad and he was a demon KING! That snobby prissy brat had no right to boss him around and do the things she did or say such vile things! Slowly he stood, baring his teeth in rage. How dare they smite him? Well, if they were going to push him then he would push back.

Leaping down to the ground, he snuck around the house and back inside. Nothing stirred within with Ary at her usual bar for the evening for the Hallows Eve specials. That just made his job a whole lot simpler in the end anyways. Silent as the shadows around him, only his glowing orange eyes gave away his position as Azrael maneuvered through the darkness. He’d hit Aenira’s room then go and get Regina last and head out from there. For having just thought of his plan, it seemed pretty solid in theory. First he’d capture Aenira and make it so she couldn’t use her abilities to escape or set off the alarm. Next would be Regina. Oh, he’d hit her with a thousand years of bad luck before figuring out a way to negate her magic as well.

Azrael grabbed a few things as he went, enchanting them a bit with his own magic he didn’t know he had. Darkness seemed to have claimed his mind in the name of mischief and revenge and clouded all rational thoughts. A bottle and some rope were added to his imaginary bag of tricks as he plotted on how to subdue the sisters. With the voice’s mysterious whispers helping him along, it didn’t take long to gather what he needed and make his way to his first victim’s doorway.

Hopefully Aenira wouldn’t notice him sneaking into her room and was asleep. If she wasn’t, he’d have to think fast in order to escape suspicion. Azrael scowled at the thought, slowly easing the door open. As per with every other door in the house it didn’t make a sound as it glided across the floor. A peek inside told him Aenira was indeed asleep and unaware to his intrusion. It was definitely a good thing her magic, as Ary said, was undeveloped. If she had rigged her room as Ary had the house, he may as well have screamed and dive-bombed her bed for how far he’d get.

Snaking around the room, the demon towered over the sleeping girl with narrowed eyes. It was funny how the girl started out in a bottle and would end up living in one until released by whomever decided to let her out. Popping the cork of the glass bottle, a soft hiss awoke Aenira. From the new opening her body was pulled inside to reform in miniature within. “Azrael?! No!!!” she shrieked, realizing far too late what was happening. By the time she had cried out, her lower half had swirled into her new cage. “I swear to you I’ll have my revenge!” she snarled, her final words as the cork sealed the bottle once more.

Azrael barely heard her screams or the soft tink tink of her fists against the glass. Smiling darkly at his new prisoner he placed the bottle gently into his pocket without a second thought. They would all pay eventually.

“One down... One to go,” he muttered, turning and leaving the room as silently as he had entered. Now that he had Aenira under control, sneaking around would be far easier. Regina didn’t seem like the kind to be overly perceptive anyways. Psh, she had her ‘servants’ to be alert for her. She probably wouldn’t know how to dress herself if Aenira hadn’t helped her. Scowling in irritation he maneuvered to the other side of the house. Speaking of Aenira... Azrael glanced into his pocket at his little prize, smirking at the sight that lay before him. She had curled up on the bottom with an almost bored look plastered to her face, as if she had given up on escape for now.

“Good. Couldn’t have you tapping on that glass and giving away my position,” Azrael commented softly to her and focusing his eyes on the upcoming door. Ugh, it even screamed prissy b***h. Signs were posted all over it claiming to be the royal bedchambers of the queen and blah blah blah. He snorted softly at them, not bothering to even read half of them. And why should he? He was far better than her anyways in about a million ways. One of which being the lack of a snobby attitude and the idea that by being so awesome everyone had to be his slave. Just thinking about her made him want to punch her if to do nothing more than see her wallow in misery and pain.

The door slowly creaked open, silvery streams of cold air snaking out to mingle with the much warmer air around Azrael. There, in the middle of what had to be the biggest and most extravagant bed he had ever seen, lay Regina. Or that was what he thought as he snuck over, rope in hand.

“Vile peasant!” Regina snarled, tackling Azrael to the floor before he could take more than a few steps into the icy room. Landing with a sharp thud, he glared back at her. How dare she?! This was HIS plan! She wasn’t supposed to be awake!

“How dare you-!”

“Shut up Regina before I put you in Aenira’s cage as well,” Azrael snarled, cutting her off. The Ice Queen just scowled as she attempted to pin him. Being far stronger from his wrestling matches with Cody, she didn’t have much of a chance. “How dare you be awake and ruin my plan? I was going to get back at all of you while you slept so peacefully and blissfully unaware. You mock me; you taunt me, and see where it’s gotten you? Pinned under my grasp like the weak little b***h you are. You’re caught in my web Regina, and there’s nothing you can do about it,” he continued as he managed to pin her hands over her head. Her struggling ceased at his taunts and a flicker of fear passed over her features. Good, she finally understood and was giving in.

Oh how wrong could he be? “Where is Aenira, peasant? You dare touch me with your disgusting purple hands?!”

“Hidden away, back where she originally came from like where you’re going to be soon if you don’t shut up.”

“In your pocket? How utterly clever of you. It took you all day to plan this out, didn’t it?”

“Shut it Reggie. You’re going to pay, as are those bastards who took my brother. We’ll make them all pay and I won’t be cast aside any longer. Tonight is my night and there’s NOTHING you can do to stop me,” Azrael hissed, using his tail to grab the bottle out from his pocket. Regina’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at the captured form within the glass prison, Aenira’s desperate fists pounded on the surface in some last hope of escape. Yet the glass held firm, refusing to budge or crack under her might.

“Yes. She’s captured just like you will soon be. Shh, the more you struggle the longer this will ta-ake?! HEY!” Azrael snarled in anger as the bottle was successfully knocked from his hand and catapulted across the room, shattering against the wall.

“AZRAEL JAMES ASHANTI!” The whole house seemed to quake under Aenira’s rising anger. Slowly the pumpkin demon rose from the floor, choking as if held by his neck.

“Aenira! I order you to cease this instant! He is merely upset and the dark allure of the night has addled his brain. I suggest we tie him to his bed and check on him in the morning before any more damage is caused and mother questions all of us. I would prefer not to be grounded for all eternity,” Regina commanded, acting as if she hadn’t been a victim in the mess or that she had a vendetta against the quickly purpling pumpkin demon. Well, going a darker shade of purple that was quickly taking a turn towards blue.

Aenira glared at the two, finally releasing him from whatever hold she had on him only to roughly grab his ear. “Fine. I will tie him to his bed. Give me that rope.” And like that, he was dragged off to his room and tied to his bedposts. He still had no clue what had been said by the time morning came around, but whatever it was it had allowed him to live another day at least.

~Azrael's Journal~

Journal

If I could somehow put a facepalm on here, I would. You have no flipping idea what happened last night. If you did, you'd probably hit me too. I remember Ary leaving for the night and sneaking outside as usual but from there everything's fuzzy. One thing I remember clearly in all this is Aenira coming really close to killing me, then dragging me down the hallway by my ear.

It still hurts and is now a vivid purple where her fingers were. So how am I writing this if I'm supposed to be tied to my bed? Well... I escaped. Simple as that. Er, escaped early this morning with a splitting headache, hands and feet numb, and absolutely no clue what happened really. I know I managed to trap Nira in a bottle and nearly Reggie but I can't recall why or how. Some Halloween, huh?

Oh well. They'll get over it soon I mean, I am awesome and even those as awesome as me are bound to do something stupid once in a while right? Besides, I have a knack for doing stupid things on Halloween. It's my curse I suppose. Haha. Anyways, I hear breakfast being made so I should probably go see who's making what. If it's frozen waffles again I swear I'm going to scream. Ugh. Do they realize how disgusting that stuff is anyways?

New Discoveries

Saving a Friend (Didn't involve Azrael really but helps explain what happened)

Ary groaned at the headache that currently plagued her head, pounding away ceaselessly at her skull with the strength of a battering ram. Soft voices and a loud clunks and chinks emanated from somewhere within the house. What the hell were those sounds? And why did she smell bacon and sausage? Nobody, not even Aenira, was allowed to use the stove yet... And why were her clothes covered in her own blood? A thousand more questions tore through her mind as she stood up and looked herself over in the mirror. She was an absolute mess even by her terrible standards, even back in her glory days, which was certainly saying something. Her clothes were torn, bloody, dirty, and almost unrecognizable. Then there was the issue concerning her hair, which was tangled horribly from the same mixture of odd liquids and dirt. Not to mention her hair had shifted from pure white to black and her eyes had darkened to a sapphire color.

Quickly changing so as to not alert whomever was in her kitchen by her strange appearance, including making her hair and eyes their CORRECT color again for her disguise, she stormed down the stairs and into the warmly heated room. "Who in the seven hells are you and-Oh, it's you."

"Is that any way to greet me? I freaking saved your a** last night. I was expecting a thank you or something other than recognizing me as a person," Zee teased, turning to look at her from over his shoulder. "Oh, and I fixed your stove. Hungry?"

"Mother, I demand to know why this peasant-"

"Look kid, I told you this earlier but I ain't no peasant. I'm the king of a ******** fire nation so your bees have no damned effect on me. Hell, ask your mother if you don't believe me. She's freaking royal too. ... Oh, sorry, was I not supposed to say that?" Zee asked with a huff, noticing the absolutely furious look Ary was giving him. No, it wasn’t just furious, it had descended beyond anger. The look she was giving him spelled out a death sentence in pure anger and irritation. Glaring more than just simple daggers at him whilst pondering the most effective way to get back at him, she didn't even seem to notice the stunned looks Azrael and Regina were giving her.

"a*****e."

"Don't you mean your face?"

"No, I mean yours. Your hair is on fire too, smart a**," Ary growled, voice deadly sounding. Her glare quickly shifted to an amused smirk at the panic that enveloped the fiery man’s face. As he went to put his hair out, she slumped tiredly into a chair as far away as possible from the kids. Being angry was seriously tiring work.

"Mother? Is he telling the truth?" Regina asked cautiously, glancing at Aenira as she nodded.

"Duh. I'm pretty sure he's telling the truth as well. I do not know why specifically though," Aenira replied quietly, focusing on her food as Ary and Zee turned their stunned gazes to her.

"How-?"

"Zee, shut up. Nira, we're talking later. Regina, eat your food and yes, he's king of a fire nation and no he won't light things on fire for you Azrael. No, Zee, you can't light things on fire either. My house, my goddamn rules," Ary snapped, glaring at each person as she looked around the table as she addressed them.

"Fine. So, have you thought over what I asked you yesterday?" Zee asked, wiping the smirk off his face as he handed the white-haired woman a plate covered in food. Ary glared at him. "Asked me what? Frankly I have no idea how or why you're even here. I usually LOCK my doors at night," she replied coolly, watching the man with an icy look who returned it with one of confusion, as well as odd looks from everyone else.

"You... you don't remember what happened? The police were swarming your yard and you were covered in blood," Azrael replied slowly, glancing at Regina.

"Hmpf. Mother, are you going senile? You were awake for half of it and screaming for them to get off our lawn..." Regina commented quietly with a huff.

Ary stared back, confusion hid under a layer of frosty irritation. "Huh... Zee, living room. Now." The man only rolled his eyes at the tone, slowly rising and slipping into the designated room without another word or look. "You three, stay here. Whatever happened, I was probably drunk somehow and the blood or police shouldn't surprise you. Finish your breakfast and Reggie, you're to obey Zee. If I find any of you gave him a hard time... I'll think of something then," Ary ordered, not bothering to wait for a response as she followed Zee into the living room and out of hearing range for Reggie and Azrael. Aenira... She was iffy at times, mostly due to her magic. How much she knew and had yet to reveal was a complete mystery but already her powers were beginning to return. Ugh, that meant she’d have to go through her house and put up spells around rooms where she wanted what she did to be completely unknown to everyone.

Regina watched as Ary left, angry-sounding voices emanating from the living room in a language she didn’t recognize whatsoever. What they were talking about didn’t matter so long as the fire one left and she regained her status in the house as second in charge after Ary since she didn’t count. “Hmpf. Peasants thinking they’re royalty then spreading lies to make it seem like they are,” she sniffed indignantly. “It’s absurd really. Mother is in no way royalty. Have you SEEN how she dresses? Even that man looks atrocious in... whatever it is he’s wearing. It’s absolutely disgusting. He smells like alcohol too, like mother when she comes home from that bar she likes to go to,” she added, absolute disgust in her tone. It was sickening really to even imagine the two as royalty, especially with Ary’s obvious temper. Then again... she was a pretty good leader when she wanted to be, as seen by how organized her home was and by all the rules she instated to keep it that way.

“Really? You’re basing it on looks alone? What does it matter how they dress? Perhaps they are simply in hiding and wish not to be found? Would it not explain how Ary has all this money to buy this mansion and only has that absurd job at the Seven’s facility and that dinky bookstore job? With the money she makes, she would never be able to afford this place and feed us,” Aenira commented casually, eyes glancing at Azrael as if waiting for him to interject something.

Azrael nodded as well, though not believing they were royalty as well. “Yeah. And who knows? Maybe where they come from things are totally different. Maybe instead of royal bloodlines they have some sort of weird selection of who could be king? Wait, that sounds stupid. Maybe they have a tournament in strength and whatever to determine who’s going to rule? That would totally make sense. Ary’s insanely strong and you weren’t up earlier, Reggie, but he lighted the entire STOVE with his one hand. Granted Aenira here helped keep it up there while he worked on it but he seriously lifted THE ENTIRE THING with his one hand,” he replied, rolling his eyes at the queen as she started to fume at the nickname.

“Whatever demon, think what you like. I still don’t believe they could be royalty. I have an eye for that. And how do you seem to know so much Aenira? That I do not understand. I mean, yes, you’re older than us by a good deal but I doubt Mother has told you as much as you know,” Regina commented, attempting to ignore Azrael’s snickering laughter. “I mean, you understood Mother’s spells more than we did. You could even READ them! I demand you explain that to me this instant as well as why you never call her Mother but instead by her first name. Well, nickname but you understand what I mean,” she added, watching as Aenira blushed and hid her head.

Whatever she was going to say was interrupted by Zee returning to the kitchen, laughing, and plopping as inelegantly as physically possible into his chair. “Heyo kiddo’s. Sorry ‘bout that,” he commented, completely unaware of the conversation topic moments ago.

Ary, entering a moment later, sat down a little more elegantly into her chair. Such elegancy ended upon realizing what exactly the man had set before her and how hungry she was. As she wolfed her food down, she wasn’t entirely aware or paying attention to the conversation going on around her.

“So we are supposed to listen to you King...?” Regina asked, eyes narrowing at Zee, crinkling her nose at his horrible appearance. He looked like he ran a bar, not a kingdom.

“Just call me Zee. It’s short for a name you won’t be able to pronounce correctly no matter how many times I say it. And yes, at least till Ary here kicks me out or says otherwise,” Zee replied, leaning back in his chair.

“I doubt you’re the king of such a nation. You look more fitting as a hobo or bartender.”

“Ha. That’s because I’m in hiding. If I walked around decked out in my usual attire, things would be very... different.” At that Ary snorted into her food, trying her hardest not to laugh and choke at the same time.

“Really? Show me you can actually perform fire magic then,” Regina challenged, crossing her arms. Without a word, the man simply snapped his fingers to create a small flame coming from his finger. It quickly grew to encompass his entire hand in red flames. Twirling his finger the flames detached themselves from his skin and leapt into the air to form a beautiful snowflake, not a burn in sight upon his tanned skin. With another snap the flames vanished leaving no trace behind.

“Very well, King Zee, you do appear to have some talent in controlling fire,” she sniffed, returning to her food. Azrael, on the other hand, was far more impressed. “Woah. Think you could teach me how to do that?”

“Sure kid, wha-“

“You will not teach him fire magic,” Ary snapped, glaring at them before returning to her food. Zee just laughed, knowing full well getting her to go on a date would be simpler than he originally anticipated. So long as she didn’t try and lock him up somewhere, anyways.

What the...?

“Caly!”
“Uhm... What?” Azrael asked, staring down at the little shadowy mermaid girl that stood before him. Beneath her floating form was a sad, mushy excuse of a pumpkin he had been trying to enchant. Ever since being imprisoned at Ary’s home, the boy had been trying to figure out some of her simpler magic spells that were written out in dozens of books and in hundreds of foreign languages. Unfortunately, this also meant he didn’t understand a lick of it. It had taken him ages to find a book with an actual dictionary to it’s strange tongue in hopes of understanding what was being said.

Of course, asking for help was risky. Reproducing his cursed pumpkins from Halloween wasn’t easy nor allowed. As such, Ary seemed to always know when magic was being used except when he hid out in certain rooms or even certain spots within a room, or whenever he had a special glowing sphere nearby. Whatever it did, it somehow made him invisible to her magic-detecting ways. A major plus, for sure.

“Caly Cal!” the shadow chirped again, latching onto Azrael’s leg lovingly.

“Ack! So... I guess your name is Caly? Like... Calypso?” the demon asked, blinking curiously down at the little mermaid that was firmly attached to his leg. It was funny how he was thinking of that name earlier. The spell he had been trying to do involved water and the book mentioned a goddess by the name of Calypso. At least, that’s what he thought it was anyways.

“Caly! Caly Cal!” The shadow chirped again, grinning up at him. Looked like he had won the guessing game of the century. Now he had to hide her before Ary found out and made him get rid of the rather adorable little girl.

“Azrael! What the hell is that?” Speaking of the devil, Ary was suddenly standing in the doorway nearby. Confusion and curiosity tinted her usually icy features. Instead of the usual ice, however, was an absolutely livid look that could send almost anyone packing for the hills. Definitely not a mix he planned on messing with. Guess he had to stand his ground in hopes of getting somewhere...

“Her name is Calypso and she’s mine! Please let her stay Ary,” Azrael begged. Well, so much for that plan. But he was bound by his word to obey Ary to the best of his ability and if that meant getting rid of Calypso... There wasn’t much he could do to ultimately stop her.

“A shadow eh? Very well. I’d suggest feeding her before she eats something valuable,” Ary replied, glancing at the open spellbook, dictionary, and glowing blue orb. “And next time, grab the right dictionary.” And like that, she was gone, heading back to whatever she had been doing earlier. Azrael just stood there in the center of the room, stunned. She was never this cool about anything... Something was up or he just made the worst mistake of his life practicing magic.

“Callllllly?” Azrael sighed at the soft whine, going to pet the girl only for his hand to pass completely through her head. Yelping, he leapt backwards only to trip and fall while Calypso, who was still latched onto his leg, giggled as if she had witnessed the funniest thing ever.

“Caly!” Azrael stared. It... Didn’t hurt? Huh, shadows were weird, but even more weird than that was how Ary knew what Calypso was before he did. He’d have to ask her and Aenira later about that. Another whine brought him out of his thoughts, finally remembering that he had been instructed to feed her. Feed her what though?

Calypso, thankfully, knew exactly what she wanted and wasted no time in dragging him down to the kitchen. Once there, she opened up a bag of cheesy poofs and started to down them happily.

“Well... Guess you like cheesy poofs,” he muttered with a soft laugh. God shadows were weird, but he’d have to get used to it if Calypso stayed with him. Not the worst thing to have... for now.
